Wonderful work, and carefully researched. Your explanations on last name usage are particularly helpful. I am enjoying your name replacement series - and hoping for medieval Welsh eventually...

This is absolutely fantastic! Your name mods are impressive and there's so much work and research put into them! Will you possibly be making one that has a mixture of origins (German, Italian, Irish/Gaelic, English, etc)?

Hmm...Well, German I could probably do fairly easily. Welsh is doable, but it would probably have a very small name set. If that doesn't bother you then I'll put it on my list.

Russian - I'd have to figure out what sort of transliteration system to use to translate from the Cyrillic alphabet. The one source I found from my usual site is a little (a lot) confusing, so I'd have to look at it closer. Possible, but low on my list, sorry.

Mixed names - The problem, in my mind, with a mixed name mod is that you'd get given names of one culture paired up with surnames of another. Maybe that's what you want, in fact, but in the medieval period, at least, names tended to be more homogenous, being all in one language, even for those people of mixed ancestry. However, there is another Medieval name mod here at MTS that has a good mix of ethnic names in it, from what I've seen. You can get it here: http://www.modthesims.info/download.php?t=284804

Anyway, glad you guys liked it!

That name replacement was my original default one, but it didn't conjure up anything more interesting names than the game already did; just less obnoxious. Anyway, yes, the mixed-up names and surnames were part of what i was after (despite the inaccuracy).

Thank you for taking the time to respond and thank you for the work you've put in! I really look forward to seeing one with German or Welsh names. <3

Yes, I see that Behind the Name lists only 39 last names and about 300 first names. Personally I think it would be quite adequate to have only a limited number of names, considering the times. On the other hand please don't make this purely on my account because I rarely have time to actually play the game.

This is really cool! I think I'll keep this in my 'open-when-desired' archive files folder for later (since at the moment I'm building a new neighborhood and want to expand a bit first).

Oh my gosh, I've just started studying Renaissance Florence, and I didn't expect the Catasto to come up here too!
This is awesome, thank you! :D

I love those "names of the known worlds" downloads you made, perfect for us history nuts! Sadly, I'm playing all over the place - medieval, victorian, present-day, you name it. But still, I enjoy just knowing these are around. By the way, the lists of names are very useful, too. Have you thought about uploading those as a word doc, too? I'm sure a lot of Simmers would love those!
