The gate will always be closed, but the interaction works nevertheless. Also after "cutting through the vines" the vines will also still be there. If you take a look at the video you will see how it works

Hi Elk,
Good to hear you like this mod. As for traveling to other hidden places, there's already a mod here on the site too, made by snaitf. If you search for "Hidden lot", you will find both the cave as the tree.
I've made mine by unlocking it from debug mode and trying a lot of different things with the tuning to make it work the way I wanted it too.
