Lovely build! I placed some recently graduated sims and started playing on this lot. Unfortunately the stove is not usable for me, my sims only can "cook" sandwiches and cereal. Is there a trick on how to use it?

I'm not sure if you're still looking for a way to have the kitchen function, but Inge Jones has a mod that allows the uni cafeteria npc that is connected to that stove to show up outside of uni hoods. It's half way down the page here:

Thank you, I found that mod myself later on but again thank you so much for the reply, it might be helpful for other people later on.
