Finally something flat! Thanks. The more hills the worse skyline looks.

Finally, I can make a hood using that template. Thanks!

Thanks for sharing this!I'll be using it for creating downtowns instead of the default template as I have the hood selections foxed with a hack to disable the forced selection of default downtowns and shopping districts before activating other downtowns and shopping districts.

Is this a default replacement map for downtown or is it non-default?

Most of the pre-made neighborhoods in The Sims 2, also have an associated .sc4 terrain map included with the game. These associated .sc4 terrain maps are usually located in the \My Documents\EA Games\The Sims 2\SC4 Maps\ directory. However, the associated .sc4 terrain map for the “Downtown” neighborhood was not included with the game.

So this is not a replacement for something included with the game, but is instead an “artist’s rendition”, or “replica” of something used by the game developer’s when they created the “Downtown” neighborhood.

I created this “replica” with the idea, that those of us who may wish to re-build the pre-made neighborhoods, but literally from the “ground up”, may also find a need for a “Downtown” terrain map; something not included with the game.

Thank you for the question.

Thank you so much!
I really like playing in the downtown, but I never liked that you can't make modifications to the map.
One request if it's not too much trouble: would you be so kind as to share the .SC4 file you used?

I downloaded this and the file contains SC4 file templates of the terrains that have to be selected from the terrains when starting a new town, setting up a shopping district or starting a new downtown though it means having to get to the terrain templates.I use a Mod that changes how downtowns and shopping districts are selected in the game so my hacked version has the default downtown and shopping districts only available as options and no longer required as the first of a downtown or shopping district as is the case in the vanilla game without that hack installed.Thenlinks for the subhood selection patch is HERE and it's been installed in my game almost since installing UC when I remembered being always annoyed at having to use the default shopping district or downtown first before choosing any other terrain.

Anybody could've made that mistake and I did stop to check on downloading it before posting anything about it as I almost made the same mistake myself,I've still got to get that into my game as I was adding a stonemason's set for my Pleasantview Epic Challenge because my Pleasantview game is taking place in the early 17th century.

Don't use this on an existing Downtown! I tried that, and the cars went running everywhere BUT the streets! Now I have to try to fix the damage (if I can).

Update: Replacing the original roads (by attaching the basic Downtown to a different 'hood and using HoodReplace on just the roads) fixed the problem. Apparently the "replica" is slightly askew from the original, so ONLY use it to create a brand-new Downtown.

I have a suspicion, that because the only thing not exact about the roads placed on these replica maps is the elevation, that you may have run into problems concerning road elevation when using the Hood Replace program. This can happen if the program is not set to adjust the elevation of the roads when doing the “hood replacing”.

For future reference, and for anyone reading this comment, I have attached an image to this comment that shows the exact settings I used with Hood Replace to achieve the results shown in some of the original images I uploaded.

But, if those same settings I used with Hood Replace do not work for you or others, then it’s not a problem I’m able to reproduce on my end, and therefore I am not able to update these maps with any corrections that will solve the problem you experienced.

However, the idea behind the creation of these Downtown replica maps was to be used by anyone of us that may wish to “re-create” our own version of the original Downtown neighborhood from scratch, but found out like I did that the game didn’t include the original Downtown terrain map that would allow us to easily do so. These maps can also be easily imported into SimCity4 for further editing if so desired.

Thank you for the comment.

Thought I did have it fix the elevation (I usually do), but I may have overlooked that step this one time. The cars weren't off by much, but they went running alongside the roads (to the right and/or upper side iirc - didn't keep a screencap, silly me) rather than directly on them. Am still going to follow my own advice and only use it to create brand-new Downtowns.
