I think I would like to present round three through word document. Would this be okay, if I zip it? I have a little story that goes along with the pictures, and it's hard for me to use the spoiler buttons and put the story in the sight with the pictures just as they would be seen. I can still load the pictures as you might want, but it would be hard to see the story behind them without the word document.

Kinda - I have to finish it soon as I have a couple of 'requests' to take care of and a Skyrimmy type village in MineCraft to finish - but the part that takes me the longest is the photos! Contests like these require you to be an Ok kind of builder and photographer! Blessed are those who can build like wizards on crack and manage to take awesome shots too! *jealous face*

AdonisPluto 29th Aug 2013 5:38 AM

I have not even downloaded the foundation. Real life has taken completely over me. Have so much doing and I just hope I will be able to squeeze in time and do this. Keeping my fingers crossed.

That is a joke, right?

After two days of working on it...I'm now nearly 75% sure which side will be the front of my lot. I have at least finally stopped moving the lot around the world and built a few exterior walls, half a fountain and have some sort of hazy plan forming in what passes for my brain.

Tamlyn 29th Aug 2013 2:02 PM

I'm not the only one who promptly did the maze in invisibleturtle's build, right?

I started early on my round 3, but haven't had a chance to get back to it yet and will probably run right into the deadline again. I really wanted to use the split level on this, but the style I'm tending to just wouldn't have a split level. Maybe next time

LMAO, yeah I'm right there with you on that part. It took me a LONG time to figure out what I wanted to do. Right now I'm completely stuck on my yard. I just can't figure out what to do there.

Menaceman44 29th Aug 2013 2:12 PM

I've downloaded and installed the lot but I haven't actually placed it to start building yet!

Sorry, I had problems like that also, so I put my up on blogger and then put a link. I got a lot of points taken off for that, so I wouldn't recommend doing that! Sorry for the bad news. ;D

Thank you for the heads up, but I think I'll get points taken off because I can't show spoilers either. Actually, I'm just using the thumbnail way. But I guess if its the same either way, then maybe I'll just do it both ways, then the mod can see the story and picture directly on the site as they want, but if someone wants to see the pictures in order through the story, then they can look at the word document.

It's really easy (although a bit time consuming) to intersperse your story and your pictures.

Feel free to ask as many questions as you want. If you are having a hard time getting the pictures to show up, I can help you with that too.

The biggest problem is that when I put the pictures on the site, as in round 1, my pictures were not very good as it didn't seem to allow even as much detail as just inserting them as bottom of the screen pictures with downloading them directly from my computer. The size restrictions of 250 kb makes it hard enough to get the pictures big enough on the direct download, but when I tried to use the sim picture thing, first, I couldn't find them again to link to them, and second, it seem to be worse pictures for some reason.

I cannot put direct downloads in spoilers, right?

aeval99 30th Aug 2013 5:06 AM

If you use Mod Your Panties, you need to copy the link you get when you first upload the picture. I don't use it for just that reason.

No, you cannot. You have to use an IMG tag and put them right into the body of the post.

First: Check your game and see what resolution you have checked in the options. This will decide how large and detailed your screenshots will be. Set it as high as your computer will allow and still play the game.

Next, sign up for ImageShack.us

IshigreenSA - The rules still apply to attached images. They must be no larger than 1280 pixels wide by 1024 pixels tall and no bigger than 250 kb. Please review the picture guidelines for further clarification. You can also check this guide to posting pictures for additional help. Like I said before, plenty of contestants have uploaded pics that are within the size limits and managed to get plenty of detail in

ETA: I just randomly choose an image from your round 1 to look at and the quality wasn't too bad, I've certainly seen a lot worse, but you still had a lot of wiggle room that you didn't use. The image is 1024x576px and only 101kb. Over the last few pages there's been discussions about photobucket automatically re-sizing images if you have the wrong settings selected. Have you checked yours? You might get better results if you cropped them a little too so they're not as long. At least on any where there's dead space

The problem was when I tried to go up to 1200, it went over! I resized photos again and again to get the biggest possible ones I could, especially for round 2. 1024 x 576 was the best it allowed that picture in size without going over in memory. I am direct downloading my images, not using another site as I just don't really have a site to interlink from, nor do I trust the sites that do that. Anyway, I'll just stick with what I have for now. I'll post the story and pics as I did before, and then zip the pics and story as a word document for someone that wants to see it together.

I have learned a lot from doing this last round three project, and now, I'm actually going to make an Estate on a 64 x 64 lot which features the same church I'm going to put into round three. Yes, there is a way to extract the smaller lot, and place it where you want on a bigger lot since either patch 1.55 or paradise, not sure which. I just got seasons and paradise this Thursday, Yay! Now, I just want Supernatural and University though there are a couple more I don't have, but unfortunately, they are not available at the computer store I usually go to. I asked them if they can order then, but as of at the moment, they can't. I also learned that the Japanese versions WILL work with the English version with just the expansion packs! Yay!

So, I'm going to finish the pictures for the round 3 contest, and then work on my major lot for a Simlan Religious Estate. I think it might be interesting for some, and even if you don't want to use my new lot, or it cannot be accepted on ModtheSims, I think it will be well worth the creation!

Photobucket is a no-go now because of the whole re-sizing problem. I really liked using modyourpanties when I had to switch.

miisroxor, the first link, for picture guidelines, says the page is for MTS staff only, though there's another link to click from that to one I can read.

When I'm ready to take my pictures, I've got a few things in mind to try. The first thing I'm going to try is taking the photos on the resolution my computer likes me to play on and resizing with paint by opening Paint, clicking to open a file, choosing the one I want and choosing to resize it. Then I'll save it with a suitable description rather than screenshotX, and check the size. If it's small enough, I'll upload it to photobucket (because I have a photobucket account and know how to use it), telling photbucket to use the 'original' size that I've re-sized to, and use it.

If that doesn't work for having the pictures of the size I want, I'm going to set the picture resolution to an acceptable one in game before I take them I could do that anyway, but having the computer nag me all the time that I'm not using the optimal setting is irritating. Plus the computer tended to close the Sims to tell me I wasn't using the 'right' setting before I said 'Oh, have it your own way then!'

Diwtay 30th Aug 2013 4:55 PM

For those having trouble with resizing images please try downloading IrfanView. It's free, light weight and makes scaling pictures super easy.

Step 1: Take your screenshot as normal in Sims 3
Step 2: Open your screenshot in IrfanView
Step 3: Click on 'Image' -> 'Resize/Resample'
Step 4: Set new size Width to 1280 pixels
Step 5: Make sure 'Preserve aspect ratio' and 'Apply Sharpen after Resample' are both checked off
Step 6: Hit 'OK'

Your image is now physically resized correctly for MTS maximum image parameters. Now to save the image and condense it down to 250 kb.

Step 7: Click on 'File' -> 'Save for WEB...'
Step 8: Select 'JPEG', and put 'Chroma subsampling on High (4:1:1)'
Step 9: Click the 'Compress to size' button and enter in 250 kb
Step 10: Click 'File' -> 'Save As...' and save the file as what ever name you want

Your image is now compressed down to no more than 250 kb. You meet all the necessary upload requirements for MTS and the quality has not suffered.

Can you do that in batches?

@CFE experienced builders, if someone were to do something stupid, like build a house using CFE and forget to put stairs in it, can it be easily fixed or would it be easier to just start again?

The problem I had last time was that I'd taken the pictures in 1600 x 900, so when I told photobucket not to re-size, they were too big, telling it to upload as 800 x 600 was the only other useful option it gave me then, & those pictures were then smaller than the first lot. If I take the pictures in 1280 x 800, I should be fine to upload those directly to photobucket... But if I forget to change the options before taking the 'perfect' shot, I'll re-size... :-)

Yeah, almost.... I finished my round 3 build yesterday and took some screenshots, however, I'm thinking about doing some changes and re-taking pictures, so... I'll need a few more days, I think. Strange that I'm so fast this time, I'm a slow builder, actually....

Sure you'll do this. You know... some people call this "speed building".... (-> YouTube -> TheSimSupply -> Speed Builds). Considering that those videos are playing in fast forward mode I guess these houses were build in about 1 or 2 hours - landscaping and cfe included. Not bad, ey?

All this talk of CFE and the build on this round taking a while is scaring me... I'm without my Sims computer for another 3.5 days so mine will definitely have to be a speed build!

I frickin' hate using CFE for anything more involved than half burying an old cart. You must plan ahead, and I'm a fly-by-the-seat-of-my-pants-while-making-it-up-as-I-go type gal. I knew I should have built my stairs right away, but nooooooooooooo, I wandered off and started playing with the roof and some shiny new potted plants. *kicks countdown clock*

The Simlan Church

18 Attachment(s)
Okay, this took me a while, and though I'm not really happy with it, I don't really see anything else I can do with it, with what I have.
I'm Afraid the spoiler tags are not going to help me because I am direct uploading my pics. It is Easier for me to do it this way, so I know I'll have points taken off, oh well.

Welcome to the Simlan Faith.
The Sims, they don't know that they aren't human! They feel and act human, so they must be human, right? Well, they know that there is something, a high power, that can take away things from them and also give them things. They also know that cheats (miracles) have happened in the past in each of their lives. So, they decided to build a faith
centered on these super beings [Players] that not knowing the Simlish word for it, I am calling it 'gods'.

They are NOT promised an after-life, but the Sims can see everyday, some effect from the players. They don't know that it is only one Player, for their world, so they have developed an entire faith around three 'gods' that they think are responsible for their happiness and place in the world. These are The Giver, Power, and Charm.

Gramayre - Round 3 Entry

Gramayre

An *interesting* foundation, but a fun one I thought. Like the others, there were a few facedesk moments and the one I hate most is when you're happily trying to get exterior shots (before playtesting the interior) that bloody Uni Mascot shows up and steals your daylight hours! The Guardian of the house had to be quite rude to get rid of the furry coated, cheering loon. That said, here is my entry for round III

"The world is changed. I feel it in the water. I feel it in the earth. I smell it in the air. Much that once was, is lost, for none now live who remember it..."
Gramayre, a long forgotten cottage full of magic and history. Built many years ago, some say by the Elves, to house the sacred Seeing Spring of Gramarye, hidden within plain sight under the eyes of Man, yet guarded by a same family since time out of mind, the Spring was said to hold the secret of all Things. Of course no one believes that fairy tale nonsense these days, do they? The house itself cares not for the day to day concerns of life, all things a mortal would require for living there are in place, but the house itself exists only as a shell for the Spring. Not overtly Elven to the eyes of a careless mortal, but there are signs for those with the eyes to see that what exists here is old and powerful.

Gramarye - Front and Rear

Required Shots - from the roof to the foundation

The Seeing Spring and it's Guardian

The house and garden tour

Custom Content

No paid content (as in TSR) was used in the making of this lot.
CFE used in the Seeing Spring area and the staircase in the house. A small portion of 'deck' was used in the build to support the Elven wall overlays, but this was for decoration only and provide no extra living space whatsoever.
Lot inspired by Hekate999's Elven Set, J. R. R. Tolkien and the novel 'The Magic Cottage' by the late, great James Herbert.

Beautiful lots for Round 3. I just have to take pictures of mine and upload. Great job folks! I thought this round was difficult I restarted 5 times, not happy with one element or another.

Wow! All I can say is wow! I thought my house was going to be a contender in this round, but no, sadly, it won't be. There have been so many beautiful entries, and then I see Fairycake's, Fukothepixie's, and Ishigreen's, and I don't stand a chance! lol Beautiful guys, and I love the stained glass art! Any chance you will be sharing it with us?

Khadija

A bit about the house:
It has taken many, many hours, my hair is sat in clumps on my desk where I have been pulling it out in frustration and my eyes have turned square, but I have finally completed my round 3 entry, Khadija. I built this house based on Moroccan stylings, which, might I add, are so fun and vibrant; 4 for your Morocco, you go Morocco! With the limited EPs I have and no CC, this house presented quite the challenge, both inside and out, but now I'm happy with how it's looking, and hopefully you will all get a Moroccan vibe from it - if you don't please pretend you do, because at this stage I'm not sure I can handle rejection .

Beyond the style of Moroccan, I wanted to make this house feel open and airy, but also warm and loving, with an angle that focused on family life. I tried to make it look as though a family had owned it for generations, that the furniture had been hoarded and the garden with its glory days behind it, yet still loved and cared for. The floorplan is designed to work to this feel, downstairs it is very open plan, with an eclectic range of vibrant patterns and airy arches (Also at this point I have never been more familiar with the 'geometric' category of create-a-style, seriously I know every pattern in there now!). Upstairs the bedrooms are made to feel a little more private, but remaining open with private balconies and arches. I had hoped that the use of arches would tie the outside and the inside of the home together, and I am content with how the space flows between the two.

Anyway, enough of my somewhat deep analysis of my house, I hope you like it

Oh well, tomorow is another day.

Almost finished sorting out some routing issues in the baby's room. The room is a mess with toys everywhere.

Round 3: Colonial Cottage

Haven't had a lot of time for this round due to extra college work and all. Just a basic entry here, no back story.

Some images have issues related to sim location, couldn't get the game to cooperate this time around.

*Squee* That is fantastic! But please don't tell me that those windows are by Luna. I would have sold my sticky black soul for those windows in the last round and I never saw them! I will never speak to myself again if those are by Luna.

Lots of wonderful builds, everyone! And good luck to those of you who are still working...or panicking. Can we panic yet?

This is a very nice house!

IshigreenSA 2nd Sep 2013 1:25 AM

Due to round Three's Inspiration of my Simlan Church, I have undertaken a large project with 2- 64 sized lots connected for a large Church Estate Ground. This is not the place to show it, so I was wondering if there is a place to show it off once I'm finished with it. The last time I tried to upload the MTS, they didn't accept my upload. I think they said it wasn't original enough, so since I have no new mods to show off, just a lot inspired of this competition, I doubt they will let me upload my church.

Yes, I have decided to take my Simlan Church further.
On my new First half of the Estates, I have the Church slightly modified to fit the dimensions I want, A Monastery of sorts for training new Priests/Priestesses, and the high Priest's main house. The Second half of the Estates will have four buildings, to which I'm still trying to decide exactly what they will be. At the moment, I'm finishing my first half of Estates with the High Priest's house. I already have the four buildings blocked out for the second half of the Estates.

Thank YOU for this contest. Had I not participated, I might not have had this idea!

YOU BETCHA. I'm panicking, I think. CFE and I don't see eye-to-eye on most things, but I'd really like to try my hand at a simple split-level feature since that's sort of the unofficial theme for this round. I'm dreading whatever Q has lined up for Round 4.

Typical sims ruined the photoshoot of the family at breakfast. The baby threw her food and dad was eyeing mum's behind, a typical day in real life for some families though.

I think it was in this area of Luna's website that I got the windows - as wonderful as the site is it's a bit confusing to navigate (for my old brain, anyway) but my windows don't show with stained glass (because I think I don't have Pets installed). But here ya go anyway windowz and gothic stuffs. I downloaded them ages ago as I wanted to build a Vampire bar using a former disused church, crypt and graveyard (still an ongoing project) and it would have probably involved *shedloads* of CC so I probably will never produce it for MTS.

miisroxor, the first link, for picture guidelines, says the page is for MTS staff only, though there's another link to click from that to one I can read.

I've started to take my photos, which I took in the 1600X900 preferred by my computer, resized with Paint to 1280X(not more than 1024), uploaded to photobucket telling PB to keep the original size and saved back to my computer for size comparison.

The biggest picture I'd taken was an obese 729KB, which Paint squashed to the more acceptable 221KB, and photobucket in turn compressed to a dainty 63 KB. I'd not done a comparison like that before so was impressed! Ha, got that sorted, now to take the rest of the pictures...

Menaceman44 2nd Sep 2013 9:09 PM

I've finally made a start! The outer walls of my build are up and I've even managed to make use of CFE which is something I usually steer well clear of. Mostly because I don't like the warped walls and lighting it results in though. We shall see what happens this time. :D

*quietly panicking*

I have walls! They form rooms. This is a good thing. I don't have much else and I don't have much time! Besides work, I've got the football this weekend (and five hours on public transport because they decided to dump a final in a tiny stadium in a country town for completely illogical reasons *grumble grumble* And yes, no one outside of Australia will have any idea what I'm bitching about and anyone in is probably a Geelong supporter so I'll just shut up now...)

While I haven't done the split level, I did dump my house on a hillside, so CFE has been in full affect for me. I've smoothed, redone a wall, smoothed again, fought with a chimney, smoothed again....

Rhett and Sabrina Funke (a/k/a Jeff and Pamela Easter)thought they had finally found a place they could settle. After all, they had been in Appaloosa Plains for nearly 5 years without any problems. Now they are in big trouble—and Avery Goodspeed has come to save the day once again. How does he always know when they are in trouble?

Read on to see what happens. In the meantime, if you didn’t read the Back Story the first time around in Country Blues, I have included it above for you! Again, I hope everyone enjoys, and please give me feedback--good, bad or indifferent. Thanks to the judges ahead of time for their awesome commitment to this contest!

Blocked from view from the road in all directions because of the beautiful forest surrounding them as well as the river and mountains behind them, Rhett and Sabrina Funke feel much safer and secure here. If you are interested in the continuing story, read on here:

Ugh! Panic modding now for my decorations. My first home I built a real beaut. On the sixth sim day I notice a bug in my lot...*swats Aevl99. "Stop that it isn't that kind of bug." hands fresh bottle of berry flavored glass cleaner and pats on head.* In my basement, my baby was playing in the water ripples on the floor in its playpen and I was swimming to do the laundry. *called the plumber and they swam about couldn't find anything wrong* So in my frustration I began another. A rustic cabin, making my head mounts. Husband is a avid hunter. It's built just got to decorate the inside an hang my heads. Hope they turn out nice still meshes right now.
well to bed with me. Night all, gotta work all day tomorrow so now meshing. *Heart palpitations. fans self to keep from fainting.*

La Hacienda Loca - Round 3 entry

When I saw the foundation I started to think of a large living room with a split-level entry. It actually grew to a split-level staircase too and I think I built the house in a style close to the Spanish colonial.

The entrance leads you into a big and colorful hall - the staircase is flanked by pairs of Tuscan columns that support the upper floor of the hall. There is a split-level staircase that offers elegance and complexity to the interior. The living rooms consists of a dining and a sitting area, it also has a bookcase and a vintage stereo, as well as a chess table. Just behind the staircase are the kitchen and the guest bathroom. I chose warm colors for all the rooms in the house so that it could look very cozy.

Taking the staircase downstairs you enter the playroom, where you can find a pool table, a small bar and also a sitting area.

The staircase leads you to the second floor, from where you can see the entrance and also the majestically hanging "Enigmatic Tapestry" The giant chandelier finished the hall with a gentle touch. From there you can access the master bedroom and it is also in warm colors. The bedrooms also has it's own balcony from which you can see the front garden and the street. A small room after that offers you the chance to look at the bathroom or you could go on the mansard floor via the spiral staircase.

The mansard floor has a small corridor which offer access to three rooms, one of which is the media room. It has a flat screen TV, sofa and a chair but despite the little furnishings it is also cozy, yet classy. There is also one bedroom located on this floor - it has a splendid view from the tower and it is colored in relaxing pink.

The garden consists of three portions - front, side and back. In the front portion there is a small garden with flowers and a fountain, the garage also stands there. The side portion is an alley, which leads to the pool and in the back there are the pool itself, a couple of lounge chairs and also another bar, so that sims could enjoy those hot days and warm summer nights outside.

Sulyuki 4th Sep 2013 8:27 PM

First I got a late start, I was busy, then I tried for two days to make a split level. But that requires planning ahead and I couldn't decide where to put the walls, so I gave up on it. I restarted five times, I've been stuck for inspiration and I'm really slow. My mouse stopped working for a while, the game crashed a few times and I have ceiling showing on the outside, leaving holes where it should have been. I have an other floor to CAST and decorate and then I have to take pictures.

There's still a small chance I could make it on time, but an extra day or two would be good if that's possible.

So, I guess that means no?
I asked for that first one to be swapped out for my Simlan church because that first one actually broke a couple of rules about added foundation for an entrance level. I also like my Simlan church better on like page 37?

I had that ceiling thing happen to me too. It's a really easy fix. First, move all the furniture off offending floor above the ceiling that has shifted. Use the dropper tool to copy the floor, then Ctrl click across the whole room, removing the entire floor of the offending ceiling below. Then Shift Click and it will fill the floor again with your flooring, and voila, the ceiling below is back. All you have to do, if you choose, is to choose another ceiling tile and cover the ceiling with it. It had something to do with the CFE being used after the ceiling/floor had been installed. Hope this helps.

Simmington State Library

The Simmington State Library was built in the mid-1800s as a place for the local citizens to spend their spare time, with thousands of books available for their perusal. Many precious books found their home in this library, however their fragile spines meant that they were not suitable for frequent use and thus they were housed in bookcases lining the balcony above the main reading room. This large space itself features white marble floors and is again lined with bookshelves, with the original desk still running through the centre of the room. In the late 1900s the library underwent further development, with a room being added to the side of the front entrance with plentiful computer access to suit the modern library visitor. This further development was strictly controlled to maintain the style of the original building, with it believed among the wider community that the area above the computer room is simply empty space created to maintain a neat roof line. However, through a hidden bookcase door, this secret space known only to the architects and select library staff contains many artefacts and books which are too valuable to safely house in the main library or local gallery. The modern redevelopment of the library also made use of the basement, which had long existed as wasted space. Bathrooms were added, as well as a small reading lounge.

Outside, the Library features extensive pathways surrounded by elaborate landscaped gardens, with a small artificial creek curving around two sides of the building. The bridges over the creek are original and have moved and changed shape over time due to the builder's increasing frustration with CFE overuse and movement of the land below; however they still pass modern safety requirements.

Carnegie Library

I wanted something formal and community, so after much deliberation, I settled on a Carnegie Library due to the small footprint we were given. No split-level, but to avoid disappointing, I did manage to CFE the front for dramatic effect. The libraries funded by philanthropist Andrew Carnegie were built between 1883 and 1929 and this one would fall within that range for any small town in The States, though they were built worldwide.

Used a couple of Store items.

sionelle 5th Sep 2013 4:04 PM

Hey, that looks great, cutsocks! I am in a complete panic at this point. I have tried four times to build something, and have hated everything I've done. I wanted to do all community lots, but it seems like I cannot fit anything useful onto that teeny tiny foundation. I am impressed that you managed to do it so well. I started a fusion lounge last night (attempt number five) and I hated that too, but it didn't matter because the game hates me right back and crashed as I was saving the stuff I hated.

So now I have nothing. Not a single wall built, nor item CASted, nor tree placed on the lot. I am crashing and burning so hard on this round it is not funny. I'll post something before the deadline though -- even if it's a half-built shack worth 5 points. (And hey judges -- maybe bonus points for being a totally awesome half-built shack? That's a theme, right? Yes? *sigh* Probably no.)

I am doomed. DOOOOOOOMED.
