lol, d'aww Qbie,

I just saw you added kid's entry to the late comers table
(was a round 3 entry though, not round 1 )

IshigreenSA 15th Sep 2013 11:31 AM

This Fourth Round is soooo hard, it's not even because of CFE! LOL. I'm taking on a rather large project, and I fear I might not have all my components ready before next Sunday to take pictures. The building is actually finished. The outside was easy this round because it wasn't meant to be pretty, in my little lot. But the components to pull off my little surprise is hard to make, and I'm not even sure I can pull off putting everything together so it fits the theme, but I won't give up until Friday. I will see then, if I have enough ready to be ready by Sunday to upload what I have in pictures.

I'll give some teaser pictures later today so you can see what I'm working on, but right now, I've got to get back to preparing some of those gadgets. I checked here because I'm taking a shorty after I loaded the Sims into a new screen to work on, and for my computer, it still sometimes takes a few minutes for it to be ready.

nanatoana 15th Sep 2013 4:08 PM

I have a question. How many pictures are allowed? Because of the build and the detail that I want to show, I have a LOT of pictures. I tried to add my entry this morning, and it said I had too many pics. I was dinged last time because I didn't have enough decor or show enough detail in the last build, so I have 2-3 pics of each room showing the detail. I'm also including some pics to show the architecture without the trees blocking the view of the house. Please help! Thank you! oh! and have a Blessed Day!

Here is a teaser of some science lab work I've been working on. None of these are actually functional, But are just meant to give a feel for the underground experiments that are going on.
I hope to start working on the pictures for the lot in the next day or two. I would like a few more machines, but more might be overdoing it. We'll see.

You could splice two or four of your pictures together to get what seems like more at the cost of making them smaller, if your picture editor will allow you to do that. That's what I did with my Simlan Church in entry 3. I will likely do that for my Entry 4 as I'm sure I'll have more pictures for round 4 than I had for round 3.

Guess what.... I built all Sunday and.... didn't save..... and..... a few minutest before I wanted to save and quit game anyway..... my game CRASHED. I lost everything - or most of if.

I didn't do much on Saturday (mainly thinking about what to do with the lot and playing around with the pool), but on Sunday I did the interior layout with some furniture placed, all the roofing parts and all the exterior wall covering. I was CASting a fence part of the entrance when it happened. I couldn't save but luckily was able to take a few screenshots before I had to close the window. Not sure if I can redo everything... within the allowed timeframe. *sighs*

OUCH! One of the reasons I don't really cast anything! My computer is barely fast enough to allow the custom content clothes to load when dressing the sims! My game usually freezes when I try to cast too much, so I always leave that part for last, and rarely even do it. I always do the other easier things first, when possible. Casting is fun, but you really need a kick but processor with 8 GB of memory speed to not have to worry about it. I am running on only 4 GB of memory speed, so I am unable to cast much without freezing.

Have you tried to enter your game and see if maybe it was partly saved? Sometimes it saves things when you don't expect it, if you have it set to do so. The only way to find out if you do, is check and see if anything was saved before you crashed. I also always always always save after completing one floor. It's tedious, but not as tedious as if everything is lost if I crash unexpectedly.

T_T!!! *crys for Yogi-Tea* .... been there

nanatoana 16th Sep 2013 4:41 PM

@ Ish: I would love to do a collage, but I don't know how in Gimp. I used to have Photoshop, but didn't ever load it on this computer for some stupid reason. I'm not even sure if I would remember how to anyway. And now my computer's dvd/cd drive doesn't read dvd/cd.

@Yogi-Tea: I feel for you. The last time that happened to me, I was almost finished with the build. So.....since then, I do what Ish does--I save after every floor/room has been completed. That way, if something happens and I screw up or my computer decides it needs a break, literally lol, I have everything saved up to the point of the last save.

@Diwtay: Been there, done that, don't want to go there again.

Fourth Round The Science Station Lab

26 Attachment(s)
I don't know if I'm completely happy with the pictures or the even the LOT, but this what I have...

Heidi was a high school student who had gotten a very tempting offer to join a science research lab for credits to get into college though she is only a tenth grade student...
But, what did she get herself into?

Custom Content:
Around the Sims
Frankenstein on Mod the Sims
NRAAS for 24 Sims on a lot
TSR for making the meshing extracting tool so I can easily edit clothes. This was the first time I used it for objects, and I'm happy with what it can do considering it doesn't require understanding how to mesh to put in simple designs. TSRW recoloring and remeshing tool. You can use the tool to mesh as well, but I can't get it to work with what I understand.
My own content made from Desk, counter, and pictures and using pics of Star Trek and in game people I've made.

On a Related Note:
Would anyone read a story based on what I've started with Heidi in this build if I put the story on the Story section of this site?

IshigreenSA 16th Sep 2013 4:54 PM

[QUOTE=nanatoana]@ Ish: I would love to do a collage, but I don't know how in Gimp. I used to have Photoshop, but didn't ever load it on this computer for some stupid reason. I'm not even sure if I would remember how to anyway. And now my computer's dvd/cd drive doesn't read dvd/cd.

I use paint.net. It's free, and it is very easy to do collages on it.
Just set up the main panel for your max pic of 1200 by 1000...
open your other pics up and resize them so they will fit into your primary canvas.
Save your primary canvas when you are done loading on to it, and then back all the way up to a clean canvas for your next collage.

1. I open a blank canvas and set the size 1200 x 1000
2. I open 4 pictures I am thinking about adding to the canvas in their own windows by dragging from screen slots to Paint-net. It auto asks you, so you won't fill your primary canvas unless you make a mistake.
3. resize the 4 pictures
4 select tool and drag across the entire canvas of a sub picture.
5. Select edit and copy your pic.
6. Select your main canvas and under edit, paste your picture.
7. Move it where you want it.
8. repeat for other pics.
9. finally save as and make sure you don't just hit okay, but you check the memory used, and down grade your quality as needed to fit inside of 250 k memory space for this site.
10. When your pics are loaded, then save them to this site.

All done!
I love paint-net. It's very easy to use and has an alpha channel as well.

Yogi-tea, I thought my game had crashed earlier, but it was my electricity going off - my washing machine had broken & tripped the RCB for all the sockets... Luckily, as I use a laptop, my work was there for me to save & exit, but I had several crashes in round 3, so kept saving everything.

Had you got enough photos to use them & just do the bits you'd not photographed yet?

In round 2 I made a barn and a separate garage and was not deducted points because they aren't livable areas by the sims. I hope that helps.

Yes, normally I save too, I just forgot this time. I was able to save the files that had been in the "current game" folder but I don't know if these files can help me to get my lot back. I haven't been able to start the game with these files, the game creates new ones when it starts. I have only what I saved last and that is nothing more than the outer walls and the swimming pool in the backyard. I completely have to redo the roofing, the interior and the outer wall covering - and if that is done I still have to CASt the interior, add some decoration and landscape the lot. Better try some "speed building" myself to get this done...

Well, that's what I did round 1 to round 3, saved the game whenever one step was done. This time, however, I forgot to save. The roofing really gave me a hard time and when I thought everything was good I was so excited that I started to do the exterior wall coverings instead of saving first. Usually I have the NRaas Saver installed to my game so it creates a save file every half an hours. Unfortunately I had forgotten to put the file back into the mods folder after the last patch update.

I'm on a laptop, too. If my laptop goes to sleep it'll restore the files after a restart. I have enough photos to redo what I had built but I don't have the color codes so I'll have to find all patterns again and see if I can create the same colors. The build wasn't finished, so I can't use those pictures (with gridlines, btw.) for my round 4 entry. I'd also feel like cheating if the build wasn't truly finished.

Oh well... have to go now.... there's a lot of work to (re)do). Thanks to all of you for your replies.

School being most important to your life at the moment, I agree completely with your parents. I know I had mixed feelings about long extensions in round 3, but this seems like a reasonable reason to ask for one that is quite long. I hope the moderator will accommadate you and your parents' wishes. I, however, will try not to use the extension since I do not have a like excuse. I have a busy life, but I do get on everyday, and am in complete control of who, where, and when I build my lots. LOL.

Good Luck at school and your future endeavors!

I understand what you mean about it feeling like cheating to use the photos if you don't actually have the build anymore - I hummed and haa'd before even suggesting it! But decided I would say it as you wouldn't have the photos if you hadn't done the work in the first place. I love Saver, and have done exactly the same and forgotten I've not put all my mods back in and wondered why my game wasn't working properly...

Adventures in FAIL. LOL!

And hubby is home, so it's Diablo 3 time. Whatever I build tomorrow, I'm decorating, because I'm not rushing around at the end like last round. Maybe I'll just build a palatial barn for my cows and pitch a tent for my house.

missroxor 17th Sep 2013 12:11 AM

aeval you're doing a great job to make those holes disappear just select any piece of floor tile from the catalogue and move the cursor over the flat bit of ceiling as if you're going to place floor tiles on the ceiling. Your slopey ceilings should magically pop into place (assuming you have floor tiles in place for there to be a ceiling underneath). I don't remember if you need to have CFE on for it to work and I'm not in game to check. Let us know how it goes though

ETA: I'm looking at the pics on my phone so I only just noticed the random wall piece in the window... Is that a seperate wall beyond your enclosed room (im assuming that's what it is) or part of the same room? O_o

I had the same issues with windows and floors at first. It takes some work, but it means your window and your wall are NOT on the same floor level. If you have a slanted roof, I don't know how to fix the floor tiles. But you should consider redoing the side of the wall with the broken window from ground up to make sure it is leveled and where you want the window.

As soon as I looked at the picture I realized where I had gone wrong. I added some dormers after the fact and those walls are leveled from the top down, whereas the other part of the room is leveled from the floor up (if that makes sense). The look on my face when I first saw the results was priceless.

The wall that can be seen through the window is a guide wall. That confused the hell out of me at first too. Thanks for the tips! I'm sure I'll be back for more.

Unfortunately, I am also asking for a slight extension, like Mon/Tue of next week. I was just hospitalized for 5 days and got home yesterday afternoon and it is hard for me to sit in front of the computer. If not, I will need to withdraw, but would volunteer to judge in place of the judge that stepped down.

Tamlyn 17th Sep 2013 6:13 AM

In my CFE attempts I have produced a cat and a, um, wavy roof that may have worked well for an aquarium or something. I have also had lots of ideas for things that would be awesome... if I had two months to make it.

I now have a pretty boring house. I'm going to stick with it. If I can figure out a way to decorate it in a theme and the like >>

aeval99 17th Sep 2013 7:09 AM

@missroxor, I've noticed that it's your tutorial that I'm following (such keen observational skills I have at my disposal) and have a few questions. What height should the dormer be when you put the roof on it, and should it be separated from the room by a wall (a box), or should it just be an alcove? Can it work with large deeper dormers? I was also wondering if you had any plans to update the WIP part about peaked ceilings? *ducks*

Thanks for your help earlier. The floor tile to ceiling did the trick.

armiel 17th Sep 2013 7:29 AM

Aeval, you need to adjust the tut to the 5 tile wide dormer.

In other words, the elevations need to be one tile farther from the center so the ceiling starts to rise up from the wall. You can either make it so that you have a tilted ceiling on those edge tiles (1 and 5), and flat ceiling on the rest (2-4), or you can elevate it so that the ceiling rises from 1-2, is flat on 3, and goes down again on 4-5.

Not sure if any of the above make any sense, is early, my brain is a mush, and I don't have time to re-create it in game to show either. :/

ETA, my video tut, that is based on Miss's tut, shows how to make at least the flat top version. http://youtu.be/jlx2vMirsjQ

Thanks Armi, makes sense to me

Since I’m in total procrastination mode (My round 4 is still currently a foundation and I only have half an idea of what I’m gonna do! D: ) I decided to finally knock together a rough and ready guide to peaked roofs. My brain is also mush because I should be going to bed now so hope it makes some kind of sense to anyone other than me XD Please feel free to let me know if it’s complete gibberish!

In answer to your other questions; when you place the roof, the walls (dormer and all) should be at the lowest height you want your slope to be. My tut has the lowest point being half the height of a normal wall but it can be whatever you want it to be It doesn’t have to be a separate room. That’s entirely up to you and your design. The only thing I will say is that you need to make sure you have your floor plan laid out before you start messing with ceiling heights or you’ll find yourself having to re-do your slopes. When you’re planning take into account that you won’t be able to place doors under the parts where the slope is below full wall height.

Kahemeh 17th Sep 2013 2:38 PM

Can we leave a bit of the empty middle empty (like a courtyard) or do we have to fill the whole thing in?
Sorry if the answer is obvious, I just didn't want to break the rules accidentally.

I'm sure there are technical ways that work instantly & every time, but I try deleting the wall then undoing the deletion so I get wall back, & that seems to do the trick. I've still got more of a prominent mark showing from one side, so I think some careful furniture placement is called for...

Get well soon!

Thank you for your offer, but it's neither fair nor right to allow a contest participant to be a judge.

@ morgaroni- You can edit posts to add things rather than double posting. That's what the "Edit" button is all about.

Delete and undo, if that doesn't work consider deleting and rebuilding but adjusting the angle a bit more to make them connect.

What style are you looking for? I found some at a couple different sites. http://www.blackpearlsims.com/content.php, and http://customsims3.com/forums/index.php. Although, I was not looking for windows and doors there. I found several at TSR--did you look in the vault? That's where all the free stuff is.

Sorry if the answer is obvious, I just didn't want to break the rules accidentally.

In Q's answer to a question about deleting the walls on the ground floor.

You can delete them and work with two chunks of unsightly foundation if you want, but you cannot reconnect them with foundation. Level it using CFE

You can have "two chunks of unsightly foundation" then you can leave a part empty just don't change the borders of foundation and wall. I, too, have a courtyard in mine.

Who says size don't matter?

ooh err ... on my second version of the build for round 4 .. the second being a modified version of the first. Indecision! It's a b*tch! I don't mind the CFE business at all, its the 40x40 lot I hate! It's toooo big and then it ends up being horrid to photograph. 30x30 or smaller is best.
So there.

I've been struggling the whole time to come up with something good for this one. Started on one idea, but it was terrible and wasn't really using CFE. Then today! Horay! inspiration struck i'm so excited, i'm about half way through and some major tweaking to do. I can't wait to show everyone! =D mainly because i love to death the thing it is to do with...

Hope you're all nearly ready to go too! just ticking under 4 days left now

armiel 19th Sep 2013 12:42 PM

Haven't even started yet! :P

Playing roughly 100 hours of Borderlands 2 lately -might- have something to do with that though... *hides*

nanatoana 19th Sep 2013 4:18 PM

I had to restart my build. I was having a fatal issue with the stairs. Stomping feet, Sims falling through the floor, etc. So......started over at that stage. I had thankfully saved a partial build in case I didn't like where I was going with it. Got it all done, moved my Sims in to start testing the lot and getting the gardens started, etc., and bam! First thing off the bat, nobody could use the stairs. Did a bit of tweaking, and they were able to use the first set of stairs, but fell through them halfway up. Got stuck on the 2nd landing and wouldn't go forward, backward, just standing there stomping and pointing at the stairs. Arrgh! Then my sweet, wonderful daughter took a look at it, and said "Mom, why is there so many......patterns?" ugh! I am halfway through the second try now, but was smarter this time. I moved the Sims in BEFORE I started and tested every stair landing. Which is what I should have done in the first place, and wish I had done!

Whenever I'm looking for stuff I use Google picture search - try to search for "sims 3 door" or "sims 3 window" - if there's a picture that shows an item that you think is interesting you can have a closer look at the site and with a little luck it's just the kind of CC you're looking for.

@All: Good news, I rebuilt the roof and most parts of the interior. The screenshots I had taken were very helpful. Now I'm at the same point where I have been days ago. Just need to finish the interior, CASt everything and do the landscaping.

aeval99 19th Sep 2013 7:35 PM

I thought I had all my cfe done, but then I had to adjust one wall to get a door to fit...and I screwed up my ceiling again. I do finally have a shell with walls and a roof. Yay!

Actually my biggest problem at the moment is motivation. I'm feeling really burnt out on the whole building thing. I put about 60 hours into each build and I feel like it's becoming a real chore rather than something fun. It's the last hurrah of summer and I want to be outside until dark and then check out the new tv shows or play Diablo with my husband (whom I've neglected during my building frenzies). My DVR is going to explode, the laundry is cloning itself and I think a small bomb may have gone off in my kitchen at some point. I have no idea how those of you with school/work/kids manage to build anything more than a box surrounded by two trees and a rock.

So, I'm going to float the suggestion of a little hiatus. Qbuilderz, how would you feel about throwing another week on the clock, or even just calling it for the end of the month? What do my fellow builders think?

@Tamlyn...you cfe'd a cat? Ouch!

I understand where you're coming from aeval99 but I think its better to finish it now rather than later. <_< If I had an extension to the end of the month I can guarantee I'd spend the last couple weeks procrastinating finishing it. The sooner its over the sooner we can get to other good stuff too

lol--I'm right there with you Diwtay! Let's get it done and then we can sit back and relax while the judges do their magic!

@Yogi-Tea: See! I knew you could do it!!!!

@all: Thank you to everyone, creators and judges alike, for giving me the courage to see this through. I decided I wanted to try my hand at uploading one of my lots (Round 2) because of this contest, and I'm happy to say that it was approved today! Thank you!!!!!!!!

EDIT: @Isteffen: You can do it! It doesn't have to be fancy--in the words of Tim Gunn "Make it work". Hope you are feeling better and your stay at the hospital wasn't anything more serious than a broken bone received while hammering your computer because it decides it wants to take a break!

Grimm's Mansion

Hello my name is Cordelia Grimm and this is my home.

I live with Mother, Father, Aunt Beatrice who acts as my governess, and our live in help Lilith and Peter.

I often hear strangers call my family home scary but it's really not. Our home is just old. Father says that our home has been in our family for generations and that we come from old money but I don't quite know what that means.

Aunt Beatrice is very strict and is always talking to Mother and Father about my etiquette and forcing me to practice the piano or do needlework. She says I need to learn these things to become a proper lady but I would much rather play in my room or hide in the kitchen and listen to Lilith and Peter gossip.

At last! my round 4 entry

A bigger, more lavish modern design house made for a single sim.....or if he has someone to bring along :D. The house has a "two-in-one" bedroom, which has two beds, one double bed, and an extra bed which can be used for guests. There is also a semi-indoor pool area found along the foyer, along with a bar for sims to chill at, as well as a patio on the second floor just past the living area.

@Diwtay I have tablecloth envy!
@nanatoana I think the crows are from a fog emitter and the correct code for crows? Also did you mean the creators feedback forum? If so, it's here

I love Sunlit Tides, the lighting is so pretty (although very bloomy at times). I am completely in love with your shiny floors. Perfect choice for a modern house, and I love your colour choices. :lovestruc

OMG.... thank you so much for posting this. I used a fog emitter for my round 3 build and when I clicked on it and it asked me for a code it was like...

Isn't it funny... building lots for years but didn't know of all those settings for the fog emitter... I was stupid enough to think that this little object exists only to create.... fog.

Hi everyone ! I'm amazed at what is done so far and by the extent of all your efforts to use the CFE cheat. I have to admit that I don't really like using it mainly because of the warped walls and, well, I'm more of a CC user anyway. (BUT, I used it anyway in all my previous rounds)

I popped in just to say that sadly there is next to no chance of me handing anything for this round. Three reasons : I started school 2 weeks ago and I'm swamped with work since then (I'm litteraly swimming through it), I still haven't built anything (yes I still have a foundation without anyting on it), I don't have a single idea that could work for this round and I refuse to give something that is not done to the best of my capacity and lastly my computer is really slow (next to 30 minutes just for the game to start and 20 minustes more for the neighborhood to load...). To give you an idea, it takes me almost 4 hours just to start the game and take the pictures of a finished house. Clearly as the holidays are finished I don't have that kind of time anymore.

If I find the time to build something, it probably won't be ready in time and no amount of extension days would change that. I'm really sorry to disappoint and sad that I won't be able to compete with you guys for this round (I'm gonna lose my third place! ) You can go ahead and scold me : I humbly accept all kind of punishments (don't be too harsh though )

Abandoned Airstrip RND 4

*I apologize this is graphics heavy. Couldn't help myself*

Let me tell you a little something that started this whole trip…(thunder cracks and rolls as the rain pelts the creaking windows of the tower.)

Exploring the Grounds

After spending the evening at the airstrip Cindy and I began to renovate it and clean it up. I looked into who the owner was or is. Information came back that property was abandoned in 1971. If I paid the filing fees of $300 then I could have the Deed. Needless to say Cindy and I never made it to Alaska. We have a thriving airport hub now of our own. Vacationers love our place.

Nope these crows are simply found objects (individually placed at different heights and rotated into position) from two different creators Unlike my last couple builds I chose not to use the fog emitter.

There's no way I'll make it on time, is there any chance at all for an extension? Just a day or two, but I still might not make it. I used CFE, and had to redo a lot of it, some of it twice or more for not planning ahead. I don't like the building, so I haven't been motivated. Too much time and effort goes to using CFE and it's never worth the trouble when I do.

Thank you Nanatoana. I had feared that I wasn't going to get it done in time. I still didn't get to put in my baggage carts, tug or the airplane Ben and Cindy flew in on. Meshing has been a pain in my rear end. so now that I have time I can focus on getting the textures just right. The program gave me a panic moment this morning for an hour and a half. It kept telling me to cut the img codes that I had too many. I thought oh poop. there is so much that I had CFE'd and sculpted that I had wanted everyone to see.

If this request is granted, can a post be made about it? That way the rest of us know there has been an extension and that we too can use the bonus time to 'correct and perfect' anything we may still have issues about (cos we are never totally satisfied with our builds are we? ) even if we have already (despite Real Life issues, the dog eating our homework, alien abduction and everything else) submitted our lots on time. Thanks!

Hey guys, am pulling out of the competition. I broke my forearm radius bone yesterday when I fell during a basketball game. Now I have a POP on and the doctor says that that will take about 5 weeks for it to get better. I tried continuing my build with my left hand and honestly thats just a disaster since am not left handed. Wishing everyone else a wonderful build.

UnderHill Home

Mr Underhill prefers to live alone to surround himself with his books in the quiet evenings and his plants on sunny days. He keeps a very tidy home, except of his books and scrolls which have nasty habit of leaving themselves of busting shelves. His small garden is thriving with fresh produce so he many indulge in his other favourite activity cooking and eating, which of course goes hand in hand. Sometimes he'll even catch a fish from his pond to eat with his taters.

hedfonezX 22nd Sep 2013 9:28 AM

I'll have to withdraw from the contest as well. I'm becoming too preoccupied with other real life things and haven't even opened the Sims since the last time I posted on here. I would ask for an extension, but I'm a long way from finishing the house (I only have rooms lined out with some furniture scattered here and there, no doors or windows) and even if I got one, I would need a generous amount of time. I wish a good end of the round for the rest of you guys!

P.S. Get well soon AdonisPluto!

Beccapixie10 22nd Sep 2013 9:30 AM

I was pretty happy with the larger lot this round - I'm used to building big things! However, it ended up draining a lot more of my time than I intended - I wish I'd counted how many hours I've spent on it, because I know I started the day after the foundation was posted and only just finished this morning; and I've not had much else on so I've been able to put a lot of time in most days. Hopefully all the effort shows. I've tried to put a lot more detail in this than I usually do; I even went and downloaded CC from - gasp! - somewhere other than MTS so I had more clutter.
And I'm aware of a few CFE-related lighting issues surrounding the split level living area, however I really need to finish this off this afternoon so they'll have to do.

Anyway, here goes.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Taylor Family Home

Ned and Kelly Taylor had accumulated quite a large amount of savings throughout the early years of their marriage, having successful careers as an engineer and scientist respectively. When they both received offers to transfer their jobs to Sunset Valley from the city a decade ago, they grasped the opportunity and rented a series of properties in the town while they got to know the area. When they were approached by a real estate agent with the offer of owning the first home in a new development on the outskirts of town, they once again jumped at the opportunity provided to them. Already having a young daughter, Alice, and with two more kids on the way, they decided to delve into their savings and build a house that could support the large family they both wanted to have. Thus, this magnificent 3 bedroom plus nursery, 2.5 bathroom house was built. Although it has been 6 years since their house was built, a sharp rise in property prices has meant they are yet to have any neighbours, however Kelly has opened up their house to an old friend from the city looking to build on the block beside theirs. Her guided tour of the family home is below.

Round 4 entry - Bayview House

I placed the foundation in Sunset Valley near the sea and when I opened the lot I got inspired to build a modern house, that has a lot of space and light. I used CFE to create a connection between the first and the second floor of the house and this connection is actually the living room. That way I created an open space all the way from the basement to the second floor.

The basement of the house has a space for a car and it also has a room that features a pool table, a grand piano and a bar for some fun with family and friends. A staircase leads to the first floor which is only the entry to the house. When you enter the front door a sculpture on your right points to the split-level staircase that leads you to the floating platform of the living room. This room is very big and spacious - the platform is half a floor height above the first floor and this way it has a floor height and a half above the platform, which makes the ceiling high and creates an atmosphere of spaciousness and lightness. If it were in real life the sound of the grand piano in the basement could be heard over at the living room too. A group of couches and armchairs looks through the window right to the bay of Sunset Valley and two armchairs look to the TV. A staircase leads to the higher level of the second floor which contains the dining room and the kitchen. The third floor has two bedrooms and three terraces. The blue bedroom is exactly above the living room and also has a view to the bay. The orange bedroom has a big terrace and bathroom. The front terrace features a seating area and a couple of lounge chairs and there is also a small stereo for music. There is also a smaller front terrace which has a view to the street and front garden. The back terrace contains two armchairs that are looking to the sea.

The front garden of the lot has a driveway that leads to the basement and a path leading to the front door. It is decorated with stones, flowers, trees and sculptures. The backyard has a view of the sea - it has a pool and a hot tub and also a lot of palm trees, flowers and shrubs.

May not post round 4 don't like what i've built and lost all motivation to finish. Will try once more 2day to c if i can come up with some thing better

Phew, I've got almost everything place. I just need to do some CASTing and some decor. Which *gulp* is often the longest part. However I've carefully timed it - I'll still have a few hours after work tomorrow before the countdown erupts, so I can do this. I'll just be posted at literally the last minute :D

It is, alas, not very pretty. I mean, it's not meant to be pretty, but it doesn't even look awesomely not-pretty, like some people have managed.

Alvarez-Rosenthal House

Alvarez-Rosenthal House

Like an ancient temple rising from the jungle, the Alvarez-Rosenthal House is a supreme example of Mayan Revival architecture. The home was built in 1929 for Ines Alvarez and her husband, Hiram Rosenthal. Alvarez was an extremely popular silent movie starlet, known for her leading performances against the famous "Latin Lovers" of the era. She married Hiram, an arts dealer from a well-known banking family, in 1924. With the advent of "Talkies" in 1927, Alvarez found her roles in film dwindling, unable to overcome her heavy Spanish accent. Though both very wealthy, they decided to downsize from Alvarez's Starlight Shores mansion to a smaller, cozier dwelling.

The resulting Mayan Revival home was the talk of the town. A lush, pyramid-like terrace of fountains obscures the ground floor that features the main entry and stairs, two bedrooms with attached baths, a lounge, and a laundry room. Above is the main living spaces, arranged in a modern, open plan--kitchen, dining, living and office areas. (As well as a small half-bath.) A ladder leads to an attic lit with a skylight for Hiram's extensive book collection. A trellised entry, patio, pool, and garage compliment the exterior.

A bit of Store content used.

I WILL have something in for this round. I'm currently working on it as I type (well, waiting for it to save). The outside shell of the building is complete and I'm working on the interior.
I'm leaving landscaping until last as that's the part I enjoy least.

Stonehill Cottage

For this round, I wanted to try something different again so I've tried to use CFE in a non-modern house. So I've made a cottage with a sunken room, split-level and a wavy fence. Like some of the other people, I struggled most with this round and I'm glad I can go back to playing rather than building! Although I'm happy with the shell, the inside just wasn't coming together, so I might come back to this house in a couple of weeks to properly finish it off. Anyways, here's my final entry for this contest, I'm glad I went through with it and huge thanks to QBuilderz and all of the judges for organizing this mammoth of a contest!

There is about one day left, guys! Get those lots in!

jhd1189 22nd Sep 2013 6:26 PM

I really hate to do this during the final round, but I think I'm going to have to withdraw. As much as I'd love to pull one last late night frantically working on this, I have some interviews on Monday and Tuesday that I need to prep for (and get some sleep for). Best of luck to everyone still working on their entries!

I am so sorry, hope you heal quickly.

His small garden is thriving with fresh produce so he many indulge in his other favourite activity cooking and eating, which of course goes hand in hand. Sometimes he'll even catch a fish from his pond to eat with his taters.

I so want to come visit with my" hobbites" *S meagal slur* Friends. What a unique thought laid out so perfectly. Even your character resembles a cross of Bilbo Baggins and Sam wise before the kids. Great job!

Ouch! Hope you get well soon.

Damn, people are dropping like flies. It's like the Indy 500 turned into the Paris to Dakar rally. I'm still chugging along with my build, but I'm doubtful it will be done in time. It takes me about 3 hours to decorate each room and I have 8 rooms to go, plus some final touches for the landscaping, testing, pictures.....yeah, not going to make it.

The Horse, The Inheritance, and The Bookcase

OK! Since I never got an answer to the non-liveable add-on space, I'm throwing caution to the wind and letting the cookies crumble where they may, I had fun in this contest and if I get low marks or disqualified, at least I learned a lot (well how to build better ones) and had some laughs. I now present my Round 4 Competition Lot.

The Horse, The Inheritance, and The Bookcase

For good measure Lets just say I used All expansions....... and BuyDebug, Moveobjects, DisablesnappingtoslotonAlt and one more........ oh yeah, ConstrainFloorElevation!!! :D

Thanks to all Judges, Qbuilderz and all the other awesome contestants who made my first contest fab

Supporting Cubix

It is done!
Introducing the Supporting Cubix. Some parts of this build came together easily and others were more difficult. It also reminded me why I don't like using CFE in my own builds; the funky distortions with lighting and wall patterns. Either way, I am pleased with the results.

As far as I am aware I have used no CC on this build but I did use quite a bit of Store content.

The Old New Barn

The New Old Barn is home to Matthew, a widowed architect, his spoilt teenage daughter, Tatiana, and his young, naturalist-in-training son, Toby.

Matthew bought 'The Old Barn' in an eager attempt to escape his old life in the city and set to turning the run-down and falling-down building into a spacious and modern family home.
Many features of 'The Old Barn' remain, including beams and supports, the original stone flooring and a collection of items left by previous owners which now take pride of place in the open-plan living area.
The body of the Barn now houses the main living and dining area, overlooked by two balconies connected by a raised, glass-sided bridge and bracketed by two floating staircases.
To one side, a brick extension now holds Tatiana's bedroom (a bright pink shrine to the life she left behind in the city) and the larger of two bathrooms.
To the other side, a glass-and-wood construction holds an airy modern kitchen leading to the garden beyond.
The basement has been greatly extended, now holding a second, cosier living room with the modern technology missing from the more formal living area above. The living area opens onto a second bathroom and to Toby's bedroom (decorated with specimen jars and images of nature and opening onto the walled gardens.)
The first floor holds an open, glass-walled work area for Matthew and, across the bridge, the safe haven of his bedroom.
Although it may never be the image of perfection he imagined years ago, the marriage of modern glass, classic brick and aged wood makes 'The New Old Barn' a unique and comfortable home ideal of this family of three with room enough for guests and additions.

Also very sorry to see people not being able to enter their round 4 lots, for various reasons. For those striving to finish, I urge you on with magical thoughts! For those unable to finish because of Life issues, I hope that you'll feel better soon and heal fast.

I'm out, sorry to say. I was on a business trip all week and thought I would have time to work on the house this weekend, but my flights were late or cancelled, and I just don't have time to do anything other than get ready for work in the morning. If there is an extension, I may be able to take advantage of it to post something, but I haven't even started yet, so there is no way I would have anything by the deadline tonight.

Good luck to everyone who's left!
