Pet face closeups should be taken directly from the front, at the pet's eye level, and show the pet with a neutral facial expression. Not panting, yawning, barking, neighing, etc. Like a passport photo.

Examples
Good example (front facing)
Why is this correct?
This passport-style photo is taken directly face-on, in great lighting, and there is no expression whatsoever on his face. :)
Good Example (profile)
This profile photo is taken directly side-on, in great lighting, and there is no expression whatsoever on his face. :)
Bad Example
Why is this incorrect?
This photo is too far away to see the sim's face properly. Not only that, the lighting is poor and the sim is at an angle and has an expression on his face.
Bad pose and edited
This photo is heavily edited in a way that hides the sim's features. He is also posed and hiding part of his face.
Too far
The photo is taken from too far away, so it makes it harder to see the sim's features.
Bad angle
The profile angle is off, meaning that less of the sim's face and features can be seen. It is important to try to take the profile photo directly side on. It is also a little too far away.
Good pet example
The pet is shown from directly in front, with a neutral facial expression.
Pet bad angle
The photo is taken from a diagonal angle, rather than directly in front.
Pet bad pose
The pet does not have a neutral facial expression.
