Sometimes the wall tool cursor from build mode gets stuck, like in the picture. What I usually do is just go back and click down the wall tool again and that fixes it, but today it didn't. Anyone else who has had this issue?

@AndrewGloria, Sorry i haven't gotten around to fill you in on the pregnant maid, but right after I promised to keep you updated, I started cleaning out my Download folder and my computer crashed. It took me awhile to get my computer fixed and even awhile longer to find my backup folder's external hard drive. I just recently found the hard drive and reinstalled the game and my downloads folder. I have been trying to clean out my downloads folder, like I was before my computer crashed, which brings me to my question.

I thought Sims2pack had to be installed by the game it's self and not by just putting them in the download folder? I have way too many of them in my downloads folder and every time I delete them, I lose my favorite custom content, but when the Sims2packs are in my downloads they show up. I guess I will just clean out old files I don't use, readme files (don't know why they are there, except maybe I forgot to delete them when I added the file, pictures (same excuse as before) and just leave the Sims2pack alone.

^ use Sims 2 Clean Installer to install Sims2pack files (if you're using Windows). It gives you much better control with what you're installing, shouldn't rename any files, and you can choose to not install files if you see anything you don't want (like about a billion mailbox/trashcan files in lots, and similar).

The default installer often renames files to strings of numbers/letters, so you barely know what you have. I stopped using it pretty much the moment I knew there was an alternative (Clean Installer).

Sims2pack files don't show up ingame. They have to be installed (they contain package files). Only the ".package" files show up ingame.

When you install sims, there's a file with 8+8 random numbers/letters - that's the face/template for that sim, containing all the info about the face and the CAS content that sim is wearing. The rest of the files in the Downloads folder will be any CC included with the sim. For houses, when you install them, a file will show up in the "Teleport" folder, and the next time you open up your game, the lot should transfer over to the "LotCatalog" folder. The rest of the files in the Downloads folder will be CC files included in the lot.

Readme files can usually be removed, but check what they are first. Sometimes they're just the creator's ToU, other times they're a description of a mod or download, and can be useful to keep around - especially if the original download page is gone (but rename and possibly move out of the Downloads folder).

I am trying to make a university hood more like a regular hood.
Using Midge the tree's non YAs on uni lots mod, elders/adults/teens/children can appear on residential and dorm lots, but not on community lots.
Anyone know how to allow them on community lots?

That's exactly what I thought. Maybe when I delete the folder with Sims2pack in it, there are other files in it to. I know earlier I found a folder that said Old Downloads on it and basically, it had a copy of every folder in my downloads folder. I must have accidentally put it in there (along with the sims2packs) when I was storing them on my hard drive.

Update; Thank you simmer22. Talking to you made me realize what I had done. I had deleted the folder with Sims2pack in it and delete the folder named Old Downloads. The Old Downloads was the one with my favorite custom content in it. I took out my Downloads folder and replaced it with the Old Downloads folder and when I loaded my game, there they were.

A parent disappeared from a sim kid's family tree, how do I add him back? I tried re-adding the "parent" & "child" family relationships in SimPE but it didn't fix the family tree.

To fix family ties in SimPE, you also have to edit the neighbourhood's Family Ties (FAMT) record:

Windows 10 won't let me reinstall sims 2 pack clean installer.
I know this should go in the help section but wasn't sure how to categorize it.
I had an older version of the sims 2 pack clean installer..So when I went to reinstall it W10 told me there was the older version still in there and had to uninstall. I looked for the remeneant files everywhere. I looked in program files and program filesx86, nothing, I looked in apps and features, Nothing. I even did a search on my PC to look for the sims 2 pack installer old files and still nothing. So I am guessing that it did not uninstall cleanly or correctly.
Is there any place I can find the old files, get them out so I can reinstall the new? Any kind of help would be appreciated.

You’re supposed to see stray pets of every type, right? I’m only getting large dogs … no small dogs or cats. I do use empty templates and most of the MATY director’s cut, but my understanding is that antiredundancy + nostrayrespawn should affect the total number of strays by eliminating duplicates per type of animal, not stop any from existing at all.

Is it normal for Sims generated in CAS to have the exact same interests? I generated 12 of them with different zodiac signs and aspirations. 10 have the exact same interests while the other two do so as well.

Probably. Interests are assigned at random and later influenced by conversation and magazine reading, so it's entirely possible for statistical clusters to exist coming out of the gate, and for sims who know each other to become interested in the same things over time.

Nah, Melancolie, that's just a normal bug.

There's a couple of fixes for it--apparently you should use FT Mini Fixes (From Pescado's Hack Directory choose your highest EP, post FT of course) or, if you are using Midgethetree's suite of romantic standards mods, use "commitmentissues-hopelessromantic_steadyengagementmarriagememories." Twojeffs had a mod but it didn't affect table top engagements.

Oh, thanks! I haven't got started with mods in TS2 yet, so your links are much appreciated.

One thing though: Do you mean bug as in something that's a sign of damage/corruption or just some random weird behaviour? Because I don't mind that it happened, I was just surprised. :D

When we say "normal bug" here we mean either "random glitch the game throws out" or "problem we know about and have got a fix for."

When we mean game or neighborhood corruption(which are not the same things), we say game or neighborhood corruption , probably adding something like "I am sorry for your loss."

Thanks everyone (aelflaed, Peni Griifin, simsample for your help with OFB sales interactions a couple of weeks ago!)

AndrewGloria, I don't use those higher sales interactions much because I don't understand them properly either! But one suggestion...does the receiving sim need to be in the right mood? There's a perk to be able to tell/change the moods of customers, I think?
I may have used that perk in non-retail businesses, but in a retail businesses I mainly go for wholesale discounts. With most prices set to Average or less, the profit margins are actually quite tight, so the bigger the discount m shopkeepers can get, the more chance they have of actually trading at profit -- hopefully a profit big enough for them to feed their family!

Dazzle works on almost everyone for my sims, but I still have to use it judiciously, because it drains energy like whoa. It's generally worth a star all by itself, though, so I use it to fulfill that want, or when a customer is examining a high-ticket item, or when the business is close to achieving a desired level.

It's Hard Sell I can't use, partly because nothing turns me off something faster than someone pushing me to buy it and the animation is unpleasant for me, partly because everything has to be just right for it to work and it's hard for me to gauge. . . . .

"Offer for Cheap" I reserve for playable sims I know need a price break, teens, and child shoppers.

The higher level a retail business is, the less time I let them spend on sales. If there's a variety of goods on sale, a few sales interactions at the start of the day and pouncing on the people looking for stuff in the break area are enough to keep things moving, as long as the register is properly manned.
I too find the hard sell very off-putting;it's likely to cause me to walk out of the shop without buying anything. On the whole I try to encourage my business owners to treat their customers as I would wish to be treated. Veronaville is not a wealthy neighbourhood. True, there are a handful of rich Sims living there, but far more are "just about managing". And a few families are really struggling. In Custer Boulevard in downtown Veronaville Kent Capp and his new (male) fiancé have only §353 between them. Meanwhile, over in Greaves Avenue, Gregg Jarvie has only §269 to keep himself and his two teenage children on. Next door at the Jeffreys, where there are two adults and three teens to feed, they only have §391. Moreover, in both the Jarvie and the Jeffreys households, it's Thursday morning so there will be bills to pay. Both Jeffreys parents are working, but they're in low paid jobs with no immediate prospects of promotion. Scott Moore knows the neighbourhood he lives in, so he knows he cannot set prices high; he has to keep them to what his customers can afford.

It always seems to work on really loyal customers (you can see which are the most loyal in the business information panel), and also on sims who have a high relationship with the salesman. But it seems to fail on sims who are in a bad mood and don't want to buy, or who have a low/ negative business loyalty. So try it on the sims your salesman knows and likes well, and the customers who are always visiting the shop. Any new customers, just use the soft sell option.
Energy shouldn't really be a problem in Scott's shop. He has a CC vending machine by pacotacoplayer in the shop. It's not autonomous, and Scott does not benefit financially from sales on the machine, but for §25 it sells a powerful energy drink. Scott and his family use it when they get tired, so they can keep the shop going indefinitely. So I think I'll let him try to dazzle the customers he knows and likes.

And if I'm visiting it from another household, it's the only sales interaction they ever use, so I try to ensure that nobody's on sales between rotations. The register is much more important to cover.
I've tended to avoid sending Sims to owned shops because of the problem of businesses being debited for the cost of sales, but not being credited with the sales revenue itself. This means I have to do a bit of manual bookkeeping and then use a money cheat to reimburse the with what the game ought to have given them. But I really ought to try, because the more Sims use the shop, the more integrated into the life of the community it and its owning family will be. When I'm playing Scott and his family, I normally put his son Ross on the till, because he has a silver badge and is good at it. Scott (and his wife Una if she's there) cover sales and restocking. If I'm playing another Sim and send them to the shop, only Scott, as owner, will be there. So in future when I'm playing them, I'll switch Scott to the till just before the shop closes, so he'll still be on the till if I send Sims there. A better solution would be to make Ross an employee (I have a mod which permits this) and leave him to work the till. He's much better at it than his dad. Unfortunately Scott doesn't want to employ him, as he thinks his son should be prepared to work for the family business for nothing. I should try to persuade him that, if he pays Scott a wage, the money will still stay in the family. Maybe I should send the Rev. Elspeth Anderson (the Rector of St. Simeon's Parish Church) round to the shop to try to persuade Scott that "the labourer is worthy of his hire." (Luke 10: 7)

I do remember my YA sims calling their parents to visit their dorms, but I havent tried playing from the main hood visiting into uni hood yet.

Only YAs can be the active sim on University subhood lots. If you want adults to revisit their old haunts, you need sims in University to take them there.

Default What's happened to Marion Hutchins?

Something terrible seems to have happened to Marion Hutchins! She was a non-controllable visitor at TeenMealz, a little downtown restaurant in Greaves Avenue (Opposite to FM), that specialises in serving meals to teens and a few children. There is a hot tub and a small swimming pool at the back of the lot, so a lot of the patrons end up in their swimwear.

While I was of course concentrating on my playable, and the couple of friends he had with him, I'm pretty sure that Marion's skin looked normal when she arrived. I'm fairly certain I also saw her in her swimwear (either in the pool or in the hot tub) and her skin still looked OK. But later, when my Sims were getting ready to leave, this is what she looked like.

You may think, "Oh! She's been struck by lightning!" But I don't have Seasons, so that should be impossible. I suppose that another slight possibility might be an electric shock, but the only electrical equipment on the lot is an espresso machine and a photo booth, and I've never heard of either malfunctioning. (I suppose the lights are electric too. ) Anyway Marion has no recent memories of anything bad happening to her. (Her only bad memory is of having a toilet "accident", but even that was a year ago.

Marion (Romance) was originally a Maxis Downtownie, but she's been living for a while with Malcolm Landgraab, whom I think she regards as some sort of Sugar Daddy. She has no romantic relationship with him, but they share a bed (because, amazingly enough, there's only one bed in the Landgraab mansion). The Castaway bikini she's wearing is one of the outfits he bought for her, as is the Bunny Girl outfit which she now wears as her everyday clothing. She wears it when greeting customers at Club Dante, and also when doing exotic dances for paying customers. Having her live in as one of his family (the only one) means he doesn't have to pay her any wages. Like some other business owners around here, he always keeps an eye on the bottom line!!

So my question is, What has happened to Marion? And more importantly, What should she do about it? Without treatment, will it get better on its own?

[UPDATE] Rather than play Malcolm and Marion's lot (they're not due till somewhat later in the rather loose rotation), I decided to play Charlie Benson (Mercutio's boyfriend) who is best friends with Marion. Marion made herself useful by fixing a broken tap in Charlie's bathroom. Marion was OK in her Everyday wear, in her undies, and naked, but, when she changed into her bikini (swimwear) she still had severe burning. I wonder if changing her swimwear, or buying new might help. If all else fails, I suppose she could buy an old-fashioned maximum cover swimsuit like the Romanov sisters wear.

AndrewGloria, does the weirdness go away if you cheat her to another fit state? Sometimes there is something wrong with only one texture in the pack - I'm thinking maybe she got fit swimming in the pool and the fit texture was wonky.

Edit: Just tell her something from me - If she wants to stay on living with and working for Malcolm she needs to at least negotiate a minimum of a monetary recompense for the work she does. New clothes and half of a bed is all fine and dandy, but what if she needs to move on?

We solved it another way. That particular bikini which is originally from the Castaway Stories is still glitched, but she had other swimwear in her wardrobe and it was all OK. First she changed into a Maxis tankini that she had in her wardrobe, but she wanted something skimpier, so we "bought" her a skimpy CC bikini. Since it wasn't her family I was playing, we used Chistianlov's Gussy Up to "buy" it. But the party of Sims (Mercutio Monty, Charlie Benson, Mallory Gray and Marion Hutchins herself) all went to an actual shop (Downtown's Comandgo Emporium) to "buy" it.

By the way, when I use the word "we", I mean my Sims and I. I really do think of them as my friends.

Also by the way, the names may not be familiar, but all four Sims involved today are Maxis Sims. Marion and Charlie started life as Downtownies, and Mallory Gray is still a Downtownie.

P.S. I'll have a word with Marion, but I know Malcolm will plead poverty.
