Because they're designed to be worn with long skintight tops to create the illusion that the shirt is untucked. The first post has a link to lots of shirts that will cover the bum. That's why you were warned not to use these pants with regular shirts.

Gosh, I wish I could get some of my guy-friends wearing this stuff instead of the clothes they actually wear - my town would be a whole lot hotter!
