This user has the following games installed:

Sims 2, University, Nightlife, Open for Business, Pets, Seasons, Bon Voyage, Free Time, Apartment Life
Default Is there a checklist for reinstalling the game somewhere?
I have just reinstalled Ultimate Edition on my new laptop.
I have my neighborhoods and my Download folder backed up, but I seem to recall that there was a checklist somewhere for things to reinstall like the 4GB patch and the empty stealth hoods etc.

Can anyone help me find it? I have googled and searched but I must be using the wrong words somehow.

Umm... well, I can help you with some of that, I think. I'll be your checklist, I guess.

To get the empty stealth hoods, go here: https://meetme2theriver.livejournal.com/63030.html
Scroll down to where it mentions stealth hoods and follow the instructions.

Next, to use to the 4GB patch (get it here: https://ntcore.com/?page_id=371), what you want to do is make sure Sims2EP9.exe has compatibility mode turned off. Then run the patch as an administrator. Find the exe and patch it. Test to see if it worked. To do that, you need to load up the game, and then close it. Afterwards, go to your Sims 2 folder in documents and go to the folder called logs. Look for the config log that was created. Open it and it should say that you have 4096 MB of memory.

OH! And do NOT forget to set your objects files to read only! To do this, go to where you installed the game. keep in mind that you'll need to do the following for each pack AND the base game. Sorry!: Go to TSdata -> Res -> Objects and find the file that is called ever-so helpfully objects.package. Right-click it and select properties. Check the box that says read-only. Repeat. You need to do this to prevent your NPCs from doing stuff they shouldn't, or at least to prevent corruption when they do. Well, okay, it helps, but... Do you have anti-corruption mods installed in your downloads? Just checking.

Also, depending on what version of UC you have, you may need to remove SecuRom. I will attempt to guide you and link a guide if you need one. Way to go EA, ehh? Let's see... what else, what else....? Oh, some important utilities!

HCDU Plus (like the original hack conflict detector but updated): http://www.picknmixmods.com/Sims2/N...s/HcduPlus.html
What Caused This? (object error reader): http://www.picknmixmods.com/Sims2/N...CausedThis.html
SG Checker (Check for duplicate or missing meshes): http://www.picknmixmods.com/Sims2/N.../SgChecker.html
The Compressorisor (Compress your CC, just scroll down the page): https://sims.jfade.com/index.php-ca...1&subcat=5.html Clean Installer (use this for Sims2Packs instead of the game's): http://www.modthesims.info/download.php?t=409950

Some important or recommended mods... (some go in the bins folder, and don't forget to use HCDU Plus to avoid conflicts!)
Simler90's Fixes/Mods (go through them, see if you find anything you might need): https://modthesims.info/m/10023119
Nopke's Fixes/Mods (same as before): https://modthesims.info/downloads/all/414/?u=9742948
Rug Fixes (get the one that says rugfixesall or whatever, since you have all the packs): https://modthesims.info/d/399650/ru...g-off-grid.html
Unfinished Walls Are Free: https://modthesims.info/download.php?t=505586
Extended Family Is Family: https://modthesims.info/d/610804/ex...-as-family.html
Better Abduction Reactions: https://modthesims.info/d/634378/ab...action-fix.html
Name The Father: https://modthesims.info/d/636945/name-the-father.html
Updated Alienware (chuck out the old one if you have it): https://modthesims.info/d/622516/al...collection.html
Smarter Choice Of Parent: https://modthesims.info/d/612211/sm...-cinematic.html
Use The Corners: https://modthesims.info/download.php?t=144021

I got a lot more, so let me know if you need more help.

If you are using LazyDutches Sims2RPC Mod Launcher you won't want the 4GB patch separately as this comes with it.

Mods are very individual apart from the essentials and by essential we should only refer to mods that stop your game from blowing up or bugging out. Past that mods fix annoyances and add more gameplay- which is completely individual. What annoys one person does not annoy another, what I enjoy you may not. Basics are things like no unlink on delete-not things like abduction reactions. I have never used that and even though they may be essential to Airazor65 playstyle they are not essential to be able to play sims 2. For all we know you never get sim abducted and such a mod would be mere clutter.

I would add to the list a good backup of your save files, your hoods downloads and anything else you added to your sims 2 folder. CEP UserStartupcheat file
Graphic rules
Lighting and camera mods which you may or may not use but most people do.

Just adding this https://docs.google.com/document/d/...dtaj_j29ek/edit

Well, I did ask if they had anti-corruption mods yet. Also, I think you found the document... I suppose should have just said recommended mods anyway... But seriously, SciBirg must set the objects to read only. I learned the hard way, it was awful.

SciBirg already backed up their stuff, so no worries on that. My previous response was a jumbled mess, so let me try that again... You make a good point... but I think linking to the anti-corruption mods you mentioned would help. So I will! Starting with objects that can be used in game to help you if you accidently do something that can cause corruption.

First,
To fix common issues in-game and remove a sim stuck off-world, get the lot debugger. Also, NEVER save when your sim is on the phone, as it can result in a sims being stuck off world. The sims you call always spawn outside the lot and leave after you hang up... unless you save in the middle of the call!! http://www.moreawesomethanyou.com/f...ffsdebugger.zip

In conjunction, you should use Cyjon’s lot debugger, which covers some additional things. It requires Cyjon’s EP Check (a lot of CJ hacks do).

http://cyjon.net/node/323

The best thing to use with these is NoSimLoaded, which clears all sorts of troublesome stuff when you load up a lot.

Alright, so let's go through some actually anti-corruption mods.

Oh, and I forgot HoodChecker! Helps to keep your hoods healthy. http://www.modthesims.info/download.php?t=456523
Okay, sorry back to the mods.

Anti-Redundancy: Stops the game from generating an unholy amount of NPCs such as tour guides, because I mean... there's an eventual limit on how many sims you can have before the game says no and starts breaking down.
http://www.moreawesomethanyou.com/s...pic,9607.0.html

ALfixes: which fixes some stuff in Apartment Life (some of it is critical, if Pescado's rating is anything to go by). I mean, "Receiving NL-mail at an apartment now works, no longer renders mailbox
unusable and dooming your sim to eventual eviction" sounds pretty awful.
http://www.moreawesomethanyou.com/s...ic,12892.0.html

Creaturefixes: has two versions, the original (http://www.moreawesomethanyou.com/s...pic,1482.0.html) and a modified one that fixes a few not-so critical things the original may have missed by MidgeTheTree (see the post for more info: https://midgethetree.tumblr.com/pos...r-a-mod-if-you). It's up to you as to which one, but either one will include critical bug fixes, such as vampires trying to bite Mrs. Crumplebottom and The Grim Reaper.

No Corrupt Death Memory (kind of in the name): http://www.moreawesomethanyou.com/f...orruptdeath.zip

No Unlinkage On Death: Prevent shredding of sim data when someone decides to sell an urn or tombstone.
http://www.moreawesomethanyou.com/s...pic,2083.0.html

Select Your Cemetery: May not sound important, but if you want to bulldoze a lot after picking off the last sim, uhh... well.
http://www.modthesims.info/download.php?t=316426

OFB Fixes: What it says on the tin. Like ALfixes, but for Open For Business glitches and bugs, like ghosts trying to use the elevator and causing the game to lag when doing so.
http://www.moreawesomethanyou.com/f...ks/ofbfixes.zip

There's two mods for stopping NPCS from picking up ghost children. Pick one depending upon whether or not you still want living children to be picked up. It's important because you don't want, say, oh, the Witch Doctor to show up on your home lot!
Child Ghost NPC Summon Fix: https://modthesims.info/d/657223/ch...summon-fix.html
Visitor Child Collection Fix: https://modthesims.info/d/623811/

No Death Type Loss: When tombstones get moved to a community lot, they lose their death type. While it's not exactly critical, it can be quite problematic. Don't get it if you got Simler90's Better Ghosts, because it conflicts.
https://modthesims.info/d/625295/no...unity-lots.html

Woohoo Lifetime Want Fix: Sometimes your sim's Woohoo lifetime wish can end up with another sim. Because tokens. It was marked as critical by Pescado, and if you think about it, anyone could get your sim's LTW-- ANYONE. Even a child.
http://www.moreawesomethanyou.com/f...oohooltwfix.zip

No Auto Urn Cleanup: Supposed to stop sims from cleaning up urns, because smashing itself isn't the only thing to cause corruption. When sims throw away the ashes, the data gets shredded. Yikes.
http://cyjon.net/node/535

Fireproof Toddlers: Apparently, like babies, toddlers shouldn't be able to die by fire. Have you ever seen a toddler ghost? Exactly.
http://cyjon.net/node/426

Jobfixes: Exactly what it sounds like. Some of the things it fixes are potential gamebreakers, so...
http://www.moreawesomethanyou.com/f...ks/jobfixes.zip

Skunk Attraction Fix: Fixes sims and skunks being... attracted to each other.
https://simfileshare.net/download/1789232/

Stuck Object Remover: Does as the name implied. I could have used this years ago when I had a toilet I couldn't delete. (I know it's an object mod, but I forgot it, okay?)
http://www.moreawesomethanyou.com/f...kobjremover.zip

There Can Only Be One Professor: Exactly what it says.
http://cyjon.net/node/291

Reputation New Friend Fix: As stated by Cyjon, "Fixes a reputation rewards bug where the game overwrites a variable, potentially befriending sims like Baby New Year."
http://cyjon.net/node/239

No Met Self Memories: Again, exactly what it says. Sometimes your sims have memories of meeting themselves. Oh, the horror.
http://www.leefish.nl/mybb/showthread.php?tid=7042

Okay, so I feel like I'm missing something, but there's some really important stuff.

Thank you both of you. I have played TS2 a while, but things are still changing you know? I have all the important anti-corruption mods, so no worries about that. I have also added the entire My Documents folder to my OneDrive automatic backup, which is why installing was a BREEZE this time. I already have it all.

However, I find that I still need to fix my CleanUI (the part that was in the Program Files obviously was not backed up), my stairs files, and some other odds and ends that was in that part of the installation files.

I found MeetmetotheRivers very helpful stealth hood renaming, so that's done. I also renamed the annoying video from the Base Game, so I don't have to click Space to stop it. I installed the 4GB patch, it seems to be working. I ran Graphics Rules and fixed my Graphics Card, so all looks good there. I still need to find George, he is somewhere lurking in my files, so he's around, but it's not too much of a big deal for me just yet.

I did have a crash yesterday after several hours of playing. Not sure what that was about, it was on a Community Lot. But so far, it looks pretty good.

Glad we could help!

Though, something about stairs you say? Do you mean modular stairs that need to be installed by the Scriptorium or just recolorable stairs? And clean ui... I've never used it myself, but I know it's available on MTS. Here's the link for the Scriptorium: https://modthesims.info/d/192613/th...diance-2-4.html

Oh yeah, remember how I said to set the objects.package files to read-only? Well... I forgot that there was a batch fix for that... https://modthesims.info/d/640948/ob...collection.html
