Default Sites uploading unauthorised TS4 content
Hello,

I was just searching on internet for my own Unlocked Lawn Parts, when I saw a video on youtube with my own Unlocked Lawn Parts.
First I though: "Great! Someone who loves my objects too!" But after watching the video, I saw he only used my images with a piece of music and uploaded my Mod on another website as it were his or her objects.

I saw there are more videos with Mods that came from modthesims on this channel:

"Eternal" and "Immortal" buyable traits originaly made by @vitorpiresa
Set of 4 Plaid Corsets with lace detail originaly made by @christmas fear
Eminence Beds for Boys in dark wood originaly made by @clairkp
Evolve All Plants v2 originaly made by @scumbumbo
T-Shirt with My Little Pony Characters Packs originaly made by @MaPo

Is there something we could do about this, other than just asking? (I already did on youtube in a comment...tried to make him or her scared... )

From what I could see he has not made any acknowledgement of the original creators at all.

Report him/her to YouTube. By offering content made by others (using an AdFly link at that) without permission, he/she is actually breaking one of their rules about uploaded content. AND- there's the Digital Millennium Copyright Act.

Hi @scumbumo,

Where exactly did you do that? I found this: Submit a copyright claim
And this information: Copyright Infringement Notification Requirements and then send an email to : copyright@youtube.com

Yes, I sent an email myself. They have an online form you can fill out, but it wanted my address, telephone number, etc. Things I don't really want to share with the Google Mega Advertising and Personal Information Database Corporation.

Hopefully others have had success with this as well, they acted on my take down request today. Took less time than I figured it would, I imagine they get flooded with these on a daily basis.

They say they have people constantly monitoring reports and looking into them. YouTube -is- one of the sites that is quick to take videos down.

Ok, so I just mailed youtube about this. And because Scumbumbo said it was that fast fixed, I think it will be for everybody that reports this.
But...now this! I was searching for another download I made myself on the internet. (I'm just curious where my downloads end up )

And there are many blogs of people showing downloads other people made. And that's fine with me of course. Many of them are great sites! With lots of good content AND linked back to Modthesims AND showing the original name of the people who made these content.

But now I found again someone who don't mention the original content makers name and uploaded stuff that's not theirs, to adfly.
And again there are lot's of stuff on this blog from ModtheSims
This is the blog: http://totallysims4updates.blogspot.nl/

Just as with the youtube channel, there is content from for example (Just a few, I think there are many,many more):
@ClarkP : http://totallysims4updates.blogspot...h/label/Bedding
@farfelle : http://totallysims4updates.blogspot...bel/2%20Bedroom
@melons : http://totallysims4updates.blogspot...label/Backpacks
@orangesmasher221 : http://totallysims4updates.blogspot...label/Christmas
@plasticbox and myself : http://totallysims4updates.blogspot.../label/Covering
Myself: http://totallysims4updates.blogspot.../label/Electric

Now I'm not a blogspot user, so I don't know what to do about this. Any advise?

P.S.
Is there somewhere on Modthesims already a topic for this kind of things by the way? Otherwise it's maybe an idea so everybody who sees this kind of stealing content, can report it. So things can be done to stop this.

As Bakie said, I don't know if there's a separate thread that would be more appropriate for this, but since we're on the topic: sims3planet.net is another site that re-uploads many creators' content without permission. It was an issue that made the rounds on tumblr a couple months ago, and I know that several creators (myself included, and others on MTS) sent emails, notices etc. to both the site admins and their web host. As far as I know, no one has been successful in getting their content removed. simsl3gacies (aka Misty/Margaret Pendragon) made her downloads private after the whole thing because that site was just being so uncooperative, even saying they wanted notarized letters and other nonsense before removing the content.

There's honestly so much rehosted content on sims3planet it would be impossible to tag everyone. More than a dozen of mine are on there. Hopefully everyone who sees this will go have a look and check for theirs if they haven't already.

There have been threads on this kind of topic before (also in Discussion and Site News, regaring sims4forum) but I don’t remember a one-for-all thread .. we can just make this one the generic “post here when you find someone trying to monetise other people’s content” thread.

I’m going to edit the title and sticky it; I guess Modding Discussion is not a bad place for this since it’s a forum that most creators would use.

It's also possible to report this to Adfly itself. This way you don't have to fill in much personal information and send it to google, but it will only take down your own content url I guess.

@plasticbox
Thanks for making it a sticky. I'm afraid there will be many more sites.

Haha, got the same feeling by finding lot's of content I made on different blogs. It's nice to see people like the content we made.

EDIT:
I just found out she has a website too and there's an email adres to contact this person: Silverio4475@hotmail.com
Maybe she needs some emails to understand that she can't just grap content she didn't make from the internet and earn money with things other people made.
It isn't allowed any way to earn money with Custom Content for the Sims is it? Because we didn't make the game itself.

Actually, that appears to be just a 'Finds' site like My Sims 4 Blog and several other similar sites. If you click on the Download links, they take you to the original page on MTS or TSR or whatever original site the item is from. The blog owner mentions under 'Please Read' that they 'look' for items (ie, not make them themselves). But yes, they really should mention the original name and site of the creator.

But wow, that YouTube scam was really brazen - did they think nobody would notice? Nice to hear that YouTube can respond so quickly to reports!

@Esmeralda
Have you clicked the download links? Because all download links I clicked went directly to adf.ly And I clicked about 20 downloads to look for content other people here on MTS made.
And reading about adf.ly, people make money for every download click. So this is not just a "find" site like others.

But I think maybe she doesn't even know that she's doing things that are not allowed. Probably she loves The Sims as much as we do and thought she find a legal way to earn some extra money. And as I'm not a bad person I've send her a friendly email asking her kindly to remove her blog before google does.

Quote:
Hello Amanda,

I'm sending you this email because I saw you took content I made for The Sims 4:

Your upload: http://totallysims4updates.blogspot...l-stickers.html
Original upload with downloadlink: http://modthesims.info/download.php?t=544054

Maybe your not aware of this, but it is not allowed to upload content other people made on modthesims.info on another website like adf.ly and earn money with this. It's even not allowed to upload content at all on other websites (provinding downloadlinks to a site other then the original). Myself and many other creators with me on modthesims.info work hard to make these FREE content for people who love playing The Sims 4. If you like our work and want to share this with other people, give the original people who create these things some credit and link back to the original download on Modthesims.

You can get into trouble doing it the way your sharing content now.
So I recommend deleting your whole " http://totallysims4updates.blogspot.nl/ " blog before google does and maybe start all over again, but this time credit the original content makers and providing a link back to the original download.
We love it if people share out content, we really do, but just do it the right way so everybody is happy.

I hope you understand this and will take action.

Have a nice weekend!
Greetings,
Bakie

I clicked several of the download links - that's how I discovered that they go to the original creator's website, not re-hosted elsewhere. The links took me directly to the creator's page on MTS or wherever. I have ad blockers on my PC so I only saw something about adfly flash on my screen for a split-second, and then I was on the original creator's page. I'm not sure she's doing something that's 'not allowed', it looks like she's just trying to make some income from a system in which she gets paid if a person gets shown an ad when they click on a download link? (Please correct me if I'm wrong about that!)

ETA: As I don't see the adfly page due to my adblockers bypassing it: Is she asking people to pay her money (eg, credit card details, PayPal fee, etc) in order to proceed to the download page? If so, that's definitely a no-no. But if it's just showing an ad, then that's probably OK.

I clicked a few links and they went to the site for me too. But like Esmeralda I don't see adfly pages either. Still- if you hover over a link there you'll see an adfly link so it does look like she's making money off downloads in some way.

Ok, I didn't know about that. Every download link I click leads me to adf.ly.
Also she does mention underneath her website link the following:
Quote:
PLEASE READ...
With my updates I thought it would be great to earn while I look for items for our Sims 4. All you have to do is click on the Skip Ad when you see it on the right hand corner.
>> This is a image underneath the text: AdF.ly - shorten links and earn money! <<

You mean something like this? Right click a download link and then choose for the bottom option it says this: <a href="http://adf.ly/zwe8X">Download Here</a>

I don't want to like get mad at her though... :/

She is probably just doing this because she likes blogging and she loves the Sims. I highly doubt she is doing this maliciously and just trying to screw over the custom content creators...
