Default My CAW is crashing at launch.
Hey guys! I come here to look for a fix for my CAW that used to work perfectly fine. Every time i launch it (administrator or not) i get this error : https://imgur.com/a/GBVMTC3

What i have tried :

Reinstalling CAW
Reinstalling the game
Doing these fixes : https://modthesims.info/showthread.php?t=441595 (before and after reinstalling)
With and without packages

Nothing is working and i always get the same error! It used to work fine and one day it just crashed and never opened again. I have a very great config too so...

I hope you guys can help me cause i'm runing out of solutions!

First of all, just know that I'm a dope compared to the veterans at MTS when it comes to the technical side of CAW , so I'm taking a stab in the dark here before the pros get here:

1. Where did you redownload CAW? I read that some people were downloading it off Internet Archive and other sites, because they were having trouble getting it off the official EA site, but that this version is corrupt. If you're downloading it from anywhere other than the Sims 3 site, forget those sites and download from here:

1.67: lvlt.thesims3.com//content/global/downloads/caw/worldtool.exe
1.69: lvlt.thesims3.com//content/global/downloads/caw/ts3caw.exe

2. How are you reinstalling CAW and the game? It should be: a) Install game + eps first (no store content or anything) b) Run the game at least once to generate folders, make sure everything is working well. c) Install CAW.

3. Did something change on your system recently, like a new update, a new something? Because what I'm finding now is that the older the game is, the more unpredictable it is now when things update.

1. I got it from a friend in a Gdoc. I'll try your link as soon as i can!

2. I did it in that order yes! I always load up my game first to set my graphic settings before doing anything else.

3. Nothing changed! Thats why i was really worried!

Thank you for your reply!

They work for me- they are the links to the files on the EA servers. Try with another browser, or try right click> save link as.

does this have anything to do with the fact EA has a new platform? or is CAW ultimately doomed?

I don't think so. What's happening is that Microsoft and other companies keeps shoving out all these updates and heavy-handed security measures that keep killing these games or making it difficult to download from specific sites. Players then use workarounds and alternative sites, but those workarounds and sites wind up causing issues.

For instance, people were having trouble downloading CAW through their browsers, because the downloads were deemed unsafe. So, they downloaded versions off-site. But those versions seem to have become corrupt. Or maybe the sites offering CAW are just putting up one version of it (for 1.67) instead of both versions, in which case, players get the "corrupt memory" error message.

I know there's some issue now with CAW not working with EA Desktop right now, but I think the new platform is buggy in general. EA would have to be insane to sabotage CAW because it's CAW that's keeping TS3 alive.

I have both files- 1.67 CAW and 1.69 CAW, from the official EA download, available here:
https://simfileshare.net/folder/176559/

The SuperCAW files are available too:
1.67: https://simfileshare.net/download/2191745/
1.69: https://simfileshare.net/download/263715/

how are you guys getting EA to load CAW properly, when i set CAW to load game for editing it just launches the game launcher panel, which doesn't allow CAW to edit the map,.

None of us have been able to. What I've been doing is using Origin, but changing the settings so it won't update automatically. (If you don't change the settings, what happens is that Origin coughs up an error where it asks you to update but then says that it can't connect to the internet.)

If you can download and install Origin and sign into it fine, you'll be able to keep on using CAW. You will just have to remember to change settings.

Yes. But keep in mind that some people are having trouble with this workaround as of last week. In any case:

Uninstall EA App.

Reinstall Origin.

Launch and log in if possible.

If you can log into Origin and launch Sims 3 with it, you can keep working in CAW. But like I said, you'll have to go into settings to uncheck automatic updates for Origin and work offline. Repeat: this is a big IF, because I'm hearing rumors now that more people are having issues launching Origin as we approach sunset.

Another caveat: I don't know how long this workaround will work, but I'm assuming that as long as Origin isn't able to connect online, it should work but the way things are, who knows if they're still able to shut things down anyway after the sunset.

There is nowhere to download Origin anywhere that I can find anymore, I accidently updated to the EA app and can't go back to Origin sadly. I haven't tried using CAW since it though.

you could hijack CAW, get into the launch file, launch it as Before origin,.

question is is anyone willing to hack the CAW system to "divert" the launcher link to "jump the que"?

@sam374: Several workarounds have come out since I last posted, https://www.thesimsdepot.com/2023/0...-bypass-ea-app/. They are:

1. Download older version of Origin, untick automatic updates, then https://origin.en.uptodown.com/windows/versions.
2. Go disc-only, then patch up to 1.67 and never update.
3. Switch to Steam version, then https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfi...s/?id=277022926.
