General - Windows 10 and Sims 2:
https://modthesims.info/showthread.php?t=658035

Fist Off in my own opinion I do the following:
Before playing Any The Sims Game session check for malware and keep updating the anti-malware programs. and keep windows 10 up to date: if you are using WIN 10 currently

As long as you follow these 2 playing instructions. You game is not likely to crash unless you have some bad custom content. Using less CC is better in my opinion and experience. Only download from trusted online sources, and never combine all kinds of mods together.

1: save your games often, to avoid crashes to desktop

IF THAT DON'T WORK OR IT KEEPS ON HAPPENING OFTEN:

2: Restart computer or try turning your computer off and back on. By going to shutdown and THEN, restart OR, Shutdown. then power THE PC back on, and then try playing another Sims session. If crashing to desktop happens too often.

these Mods all work fine together, in harmony in my own experience.

Neighborhood corruption is not fixable. The only thing you can do is prevent it from happening in the first place, and the only mods you listed that prevent corruption are creaturefixes (which technically prevents game corruption, not neighborhood corruption) and nounlinkondelete.

I currently only use Windows 10's Built-In malware detection software, and I keep my WIN PC up to date as well.

I don't currently have any malware issues. and My computer currently runs vary smooth and fast and it's a 2014 build. "with motherboard video" But I don't go too many places online either so, but I found out that Sometimes Norton 360 caused The Sims 2 to crash to desktop in my past, and it kept on doing, it without removing or fixing this issue.

But I was not as carful back then, with my computers online as I am today .

Also this was a long time ago, that I used Norton 360. So it's currently not supported. support ended for it in 2014.

I am doing a hood rebuild: I don't see that mentioned.

1: Spreadsheet
This is to jot down all the families with as much detail as I can. The more details you jot down the more the new clone sims will feel like your old sims. This for me is an essential part of a hood rebuild. Most of us are attached to our sims and if they feel really off it won't be the same.
One big area people seem to overlook are the sims interests but this area is important along with personality points if you want your sims to interact the same way. If Bob was a cranky pants and despised talking about money and would stick his fingers in his ears anytime someone mentioned it, then you want to keep that. If now all he does is talk about money he simply won't feel like the same sim.
Added to that will be pictures of each sim and a picture of the family tree.

2. Extracting and cleaning sims. All extracted sims should be cleaned by cloning. Extracted sims tend to be buggy.
https://pixel-trade.livejournal.com/16091.html

3: The lots.
So one thing I am lucky with is Coral Bay is Elsewhere by Plastic Box and my sub hoods are also hers. So I don't need to rebuild the bases. Obviously, I did a lot to them, I added lots either that I built or downloaded and some houses I redid floor plans and I did hours of decorating over the past 3-4? years that I played CB.

I will be cleaning each lot. Sim references, the lot cleaner and the SDH checker. I want these lots to start off as squeaky clean as I can make them. Then some I will package and move over.
Due to the special shaping of Elsewhere some lots can't be moved. For those that I want to keep as is, I am taking photos so I can recreate the decorating.

Normally I might do hood replace but I bungled CB's terrain at one point so I don't want to bring that over. Somehow CB was made with more than one terrain type and hood replace didn't seem to like it, so now all my mountains look like sand. So a fresh base is needed.

vary true, as there are several if not more natural TS2 features that "if used of clicked on" will corrupt the neighborhood, like using the "in Game" delete family or sim button. As far as I know that will cause un-fixable neighborhood file corruption. and WILL corrupt the neighborhood, also good to have a isolated community lot for a grave yard because.

SELCET CEMETARY MOD:

OTHER INFORMATION ABOUT NEIGHRBORHOOD CURROPTION "SOME WERE FIXED IN COMPLETE COLLECTION DOWNLOAD FROM EA LATER ON"

I also heard low asperation teen sims will smash graves and kick them naturally and without further mods. never put owned lots into the Lot's and houses Bin, because that also will corrupt the neighborhood. there is a way to delete a sim or sim family but it is not a safe way to do so, it will cause some damage even the safest way of deleting a sim or sim family is dangerous.

NEVER delete Grave Stones here is if in case you do? or if it gets smashed?

The Unborn EA/maxis made sim Ottomas family. have 2 corrupted twin babies that will also corrupt, the neighborhood files. if they ever become born into the neighborhood, AND deleting that family, as I just now said. WILL also corrupt the neighborhood will un-fixable corruption.

Some of that is completely wrong @Aspersim

The Critter family, like the Ottmas family, were fixed in the Seasons patch. many, many years ago. They are both perfectly safe and fine to play. Ugliness aside.

The remote control toys are also perfectly safe to play as intended which is as a toy. Of course you are not supposed to make the NPC controlling the toys visible and make them playable. The same exact way you wouldn't make Crumplebottom or grim reaper playable.

So long as you have no unlink on delete gravestones or urns will not cause corruption.

That is all scaremongering. Also you did not respond to my post about Hood rebuilding.

Are you using the old classic MTS format? That is the only reason I know of that stops posts showing.

I suggest removing the incorrect links.

The Fandom Wiki doesn't say not to buy or use the Remote Control Car. It only says not to try to use the Remote Control Car's NPC for any thing but it intended purpose. Using it as intended is generally harmless. That quote by Peni Griffin mentions another problem; it may cause corruption if the lot is closed with the car in use. (btw Where does that quote come from?) But, as Peni says, that can be fixed by making the objects.package files read-only. If that is done there's no reason why your Sims shouldn't play with remote control cars to their little hearts' content. Ravi Bertino, one of my favourite teens in my game, a gentle kind-hearted soul, has a remote control car and loves playing with it. I'm definitely not going to try to take it from him -- it would be like taking candy from a toddler. He lives in downtown Veronaville, and he's been living there and playing with his car for years. I've been playing the 'hood for over eight and a half years now.

I don't have either Pets or Seasons, but I understand the problems with the Critturs and the Ottomai were fixed in the official patches for those EPs, which are readily available on MTS. The Ultimate Collection (if you can get it) comes pre-patched I think (but don't quote me on it) that the EP compilations (University Life Collection, Best of Business Collection and Fun with Pets Collection) are pre-patched too. Double Deluxe definitely is pre-patched. People playing a fully patched game really shouldn't have to worry about Critturs or the Ottomai.

For myself I guard against corruption by using some "essential" mods (especially nounlinkondelete and nocorruptdeath), by trying to play sensibly, and making and keeping plenty of backups. I back up almost every time I play. On the whole I'd say most regulars on this forum today are familiar with corruption issues, and take steps to keep their games safe. Sometimes I think the greater danger is TS2 Simmers becoming so paranoid about corruption that they become afraid to play.

[EDIT] I see that joandsarah77 has dealt with most of my points while i was writing my post. But I am concerned that the tone of your posts is unnecessarily scary. Please use less Bold. Thanks!

The Sims 2 lifetime spent at University is too long in my own opinion, not only that but, adding any type of college neighborhood adds 100 of un-necessary character files to your neighborhood in my opinion. According to Sim Modder's in my past internet researc,h I read somewhere you can only so many character files in the sims 2 neighborhoods. Before it's will crash, and no longer run. And the more sims you create, and die in the game, or are currently dead in the game. The more of these files you will have, and as far as I know, there is NO, safe way even to delete the old dead sims.

but maybe I'm wrong anyway here is an earlier MTS thread about this issue.

General - Character file limits ? How much do you allow ?
https://modthesims.info/t/497949

WITH THE FOLLOWING MOD YOU DON'T EVER NEED TO GRADUATE YOUR SIMS FROM COLLEGE IN ORDER TO GET THEM A UNIVERISTY EP JOB. by the way sending your sims to college is time cunsuming and you won't have that graduated sim forver anyway so I use this instead, if I want a Sim to have a University job, that is otherwise, not available in the computer or the newspaper unless you toy with this following object.

IIRC the concern about character files was only an issue way back in the day or for low-end machines or something like that. Basically not something that most of us need to worry about anymore. I still try and keep mine low just because I'm obsessive and don't want any extra sims that don't absolutely need to be there.

Anyway,

I've not corrupted my game since 2014, but that aside, my "personal way" of dealing with potential corruption or any other form of wonkiness is to come straight here and wine about it until someone fixes it for me ask for suggestions and advice on resolving said wonk.

It actually wasn't about the capabilities of your machine (although all machines back then would be considered low-end now), that was just a limitation of the game before either Nightlife or OFB came out, can't remember which one it was anymore. The limit used to be 1000 character files, which is very reachable (although slightly less so without expansions like BV and AL which added a whole bunch more townies). After whichever of those expansions it was, the limit is now 32,767 character files, which will at least take you quite a while to reach. I've never heard of anyone actually reaching that number.

Ah yeah that was it. I knew it was a problem in the earlier days of the game but I couldn't remember the cause. So I guessed maybe it was like how some people have to limit how much CC they can have because of their machine capabilities. But you are right, I just forgot and was too lazy to fact check myself

You could have also been thinking of Mac users that can be limited in their character file number, unless they do something complicated to their machine, but I could be wrong here. I also believe that it was Nightlife that increased the character file size to 32K, if I'm remembering correctly.

As for corruption avoidance and prevention, I just do the essentials really; have the  nounlinkondelete and nocorruptdeath mods installed, and avoid the VBTs. The most important part, as I believe someone mentioned already, is to not worry about it too much, or it could suck the enjoyment out of the game. If you back up regularly, you should be fine.

Just know, it's okay to be cautious, but don't blow it out of proportion; The Sims 2 has its problems, but it's not a glass house, one stone isn't going to smash it to pieces.

When a game is predictable, it's boring.
That goes for any medium that isn't life.
That's why The Sims 2 is my favourite sims game.
It has elements of unpredictability and everything feels more involved.
The Sims 4 is another story altogether...

Thought I'd pop back in to add that it's entirely possible to have a university without the addition of a boatload of dormies being added to the hood. For example, meetmetotheriver's clean templates. When I was doing my megahood I opted for zero townies and zero dormies because I had more than enough playable sims. But now that I'm doing just Pleasantview again I want the townies and dormies, or else who is Don Lothario gonna sleep with to rack up that woohoo count?

A brand spankin' new Pleasantview with only Sim State University added, no downtown, no vacation, no shopping and I'm sitting at a comfy 287 characters. I have no need for a shopping district or downtown, and vacation makes a household's rotation too long imo (because it's the vacation days in addition to their normal amount of days) but I may add them later on.

I just don't play with the dead in the Sims 2. because ever since I heard of deleting grave stones and maids sweeping up smashed urns counting as In-game Sim deletion. causing issues, with the Neighborhoods.

I just no longer want a haunted house, In fact I just move the sims to a grave yard and be done with it, I know it's mean, but it's only a game. In my new German neighborhood I made and uploaded to MTS creation center (currently in) https://modthesims.info/forumdisplay.php?f=473 (7-14-2021) I have 2 really nice funeral homes,. With fenced in Areas for putting the dead when pets and sims die in the game

and then once a sim or pet dies, I'll move them to one of the two grave parks, and put some flowers on their grave, so I can say they can comfortably rest in peace.

NOTE: cats and dogs also count toward the character file count as well, both dead and, alive ones too.

I lost custom hoods before I learned about game and neighborhood corruption and it was not fun at all
