Did you try the suggestions here?
http://www.simswiki.info/wiki.php?t...Sims_3_Crashing

If those don't work I don't know what to tell you. If you do narrow down what caused the crash, let me know.

I haven't tried removing all CC yet, but it is something I've been testing here and there. I figure that is the most likely cause of my problem. But blah, who wants to play without pretty hairs & clothes, lol.

I'll let you know if I figure something out.

Is there any meaning to the crash address? It's the EXACT same as before...

"Crash Address: 0x00c66795 "C:\Program Files (x86)\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3 Ambitions\Game\Bin\TS3EP02.exe":0x0001:0x00865795"

Just wondering if you know what it points to or means. I know that those numbers can mean something, but I can't seem to find them anywhere... I dunno, just an idea.

<address in memory> "<faulting module>":<not sure>:<address in module>

I am most concerned with the exception type, faulting module, and address in module. I don't know what it means until someone can tie specific causes which lead to the crash.

Since the errors are not common, it is most likely something specific to your configuration (again, most likely custom content).

Hi!

I keep crashing to the desktop after playing for about an hour. I also get the same error message. Do you have any idea what this means? Thanks in advance!

All of your errors (posted now and previously) are exactly the same. If you find the solution for one, you'll find the solution for all. Most likely it is due to a bad custom content.

Could you post the top of the log (has TS3 versions, graphics card, processor, etc.)?

Yup, my money is on custom content. You could try updating your graphics driver as well (uninstall the graphics driver before installing new ones) but I doubt that is causing the crashes.

Thanks for the reply.

I did look up the graphics driver (thanks for the direct link!) and it did need updating but like you said, I don't think it is the driver as the crashes just started recently. I was hoping it wasn't CC as it lets me play about an hour or so and then crashes. But I think you're right. Time to take out and add in slowly.

Thanks so much for your help! You've really gone the extra mile for us.

Tell me if you find the one that causes those crashes. I could make CLA automatically notify users of that specific crash.

Hey Hey, I'm going to eventually do a clean install, but I doubt I'll be able to keep the CC away for long, lol. But I'm going to have to categorized better... So who knows maybe that will help.

PICTURES of EVERYTHING, haha!

Anyways I believe my game only plays for about 12 hours sim hours... I thought it was the party I was throwing, blah blah blah. I can say a lot... I've done a lot of testing and cut down on the CC, but still have yet to find the problem. Could be my legacy (save file) ... *cries*

I'll see if when I do a fresh install I can hold off on CC for a few hours to see if there are any crashes.

Did you try removing all custom content? That's the first thing to do. If the problem still occurs without any custom content, most likely custom content isn't to blame.

Then again, I think 90% of all crashes are on games with custom content. The remaining 10% are due to inadequate or faulty hardware.

I'm pretty sure TS3 updates save files as needed so there is no such thing as "legacy" saves.
Lab Assistant
#89 Old 4th Sep 2010 at 6:35 AM
Nono lol, I mean the legacy I finally started (I usually don't play that way) might have a corrupted save file.

I'm going to do a trial run with no CC this weekend, even delete all the stuff in my downloads folder. But first I wanna see if it's my save file.

I'm not an end user Just silly. Uh if you find these updates pointless or unneeded I'll stop... I just thought you might like to know.

I've seen a few MSVCR80.dll crashes (Caprisim had one as well) but I'm still not sure why they happen. There's very little in common with your systems and it actually appears that you have a newer version of the DLL than Caprisim. Surely the same thing(s) are causing both crashes but there is not enough information to draw conclusions on that one.

update on the crash - First I think I forgot to say that the game crashed when I was on vacation in Egypt and crashed as soon as the vacation had loaded. I deleted all my DCCache files and my DCBackup files then I reinstalled all my downloads using the launcher again, loaded up the game and Bingo no crash could continue my game in Egypt. Hope this helps analyze the crash log

So maybe MSVCR80.dll is connected to DCCache crashes? I suppose it is possible. I need others that can replicate the solution before I can add it to CLA though.

I've had this same error happen every time I played since installing Ambitions, and always within a few minutes of loading a saved game. I'm doing some troubleshooting to see what's wrong.

Default CLA hasn't given me good news for Ambitions crashes & errors
Hi there. I'm following up on a post I made to the comments for the LAA application. Basically, I have all TS3 programs so far and have started experiencing random crashes to the desk top (within 1 minute to 1.5 minutes of actual game play starting, no crashes during loading) and error code 16 which makes it impossible to save. I have tried multiple solutions offered here, on the official TS3 site forums and from EA phone calls and live chats. No thing seems to fix the problem, it's actually gotten a little worse. Before I could play for about 30 min. before a crash and had no errors. Then error code 16 started and I began looking for solutions. Now the game crashes at less than 2 mn. of game play.

Upon FordGT90Concept's advice, I've downloaded the CLA application. I'll be honest, after trying nearly every solution I expected the problem to come up as CC (I have quite a bit from TSR and the official store). But what's coming up is actually 3 DEP-related issues and 3 LAA-related issues. I must admit that I'm thoroughly confused now. I've already done the fixes for both DEP and LAA. So why would my most recent crashes be related to these?

I have a new theory and I'm convinced this is the solution (which sucks for me but may help some others of you having the same problems):

I think that my CC is causing a problem, though not the way CLA might think. Because I have so much of it (more than 4k items), and have a fairly big lot which is all CC itself, I think that my game requires much more RAM to run than it would otherwise. Perhaps if I didn't use so much of the CC or run the game in a home that is all CC I might not experience these crashes and errors so much. But to be honest, I don't like any of the stuff the games actually come with and it's just no fun without the CC. If EA put a little more time and effort into making their own content look half as good as the CC I can get from here or other sites it might be a different story...

I'm currently running on Vista 32-bit with 3GB of RAM. Unfortunately, Visat 32-bit has certain programs and functions which are unlikely to address any more than 3GB of RAM no matter what you do to it. So in this case, making TS3 large address aware on Vista 32-bit isn't likely to solve any RAM issues. And adding more RAM won't help if Vista is only going to address a portion of it anyway. So it's looking more and more like Vista 32-bit is the issue.

After some carefully research and talking with a lot of techy friends, we've come to the conclusion that 64-bit is just a better option for running TS3. That's something EA doesn't specify, but it's a pretty intense game when it comes to graphics (especially in full screen mode) and it will eat up every last ounce of RAM you have unless you have so much usable RAM that it it's impossible to reach an overload point. The 64-bit systems (preferably Windows 7) allow the usage of more RAM right from the start, without all the hacks and fixes. The Windows 7 64-bit editions can actually address as much RAM as they hold, so if you have Windows 7 Home Premium, it can both hold and address up to 16GB of RAM.

So, after trying all of the offered solutions with no help, it seems like my best bet is switching to one of the Windows 7 64-bit editions and adding more RAM than the 3GB I already have. I'm no expert so I don't know if this will fix anything or everything, and it's certainly an expensive fix (for me, anyway) when I've had this laptop repaired 2 times in less than 1 year. But if it seems like the way to go, I'll do it.

A word to the wise, though...I would think that in order to keep things running smoothly you'd want to limit what all is running in the background while playing TS3, even with more RAM addressed. It can only help things run smoother. So if you're already running a Windows 7 64-bit edition with more than 4GB of RAM, do yourself a favor and set a limit on how much CC you install and use at one time, make sure you've set the game to LAA and limit what you have running in the background. Some components and processes take more RAM than you know (I have Dropbox as my backup system and it takes over 50,000 kb while running, EADM takes as much as 30,500kb while running and the "lovely" Aero windows in Vista take as much as 26,000kb while running - that's a LOT of RAM used up and I haven't even gotten to Firefox yet). Hopefully that helps some of you with Windows 7 64-bit. You may only need to add some RAM which can be fairly inexpensive (hint: if you need RAM head over to Amazon where you can get the good stuff like Crucial for fairly cheap). Those of us with Vista may want to look into upgrading to Windows 7 if the game is that important to you. It is to me, and I also use this system for running our business, so the added attention can only help I would think.

Sorry for the super-long post but I feel strongly that this is the issue for many of us. Thoughts on this are welcome!

So question (after talking a bit more to the folks at Crucial about memory) - would adding just one more GB of RAM on a system that allows all of the RAM to be addressed help solve these crash and error code issues? I've heard that just half a gig of RAM can works wonders for a machine. So do you think being able to address a full 4GB would help? I can't add more than that on this motherboard, unfortunately.

@Wintermute & crinrict: Both are 0x4 crashes but unfortunately, I still don't have a cause for them documented.

CLA finds all Sims 3 crashes that happened on the machine. Those LAA and DEP crashes could be many months old. If you want to delete them and let the game produce another crash, you can do so in CLA under File.

With DEP, you must add the most recent expansion to the list. If you have Ambitions, Ambitions would have to be on the DEP list. The Sims 3 Launcher always launches the most recent version so adding The Sims 3 base game to the list won't accomplish anything.

From what I've seen, near instant crashes (<5 minutes of gameplay) are almost always caused by DEP. CC crashes happen randomly and often take longer to expose themselves.

Adding another 1 GiB of RAM and setting UserVA to 3072 would help seeing as you did have an LAA crash. That will give The Sims 3 3 GiB of RAM to use and still keep Vista at 1 GiB.

With Windows 64-bit, The Sims 3 can be allowed a full 4 GiB of RAM to use. As far as I have seen, The Sims 3 under the worst circumstances uses somewhere between 2-3 GiB. With the extra RAM and UserVA setting changed, it should stop the crashes for the time being.

I've heard that just half a gig of RAM can works wonders for a machine. So do you think being able to address a full 4GB would help? I can't add more than that on this motherboard, unfortunately.

It will reduce the number of crashes, yes, seeing as you did hit LAA crashes.

Thanks for the input, it was a real help. I'll try adding the extra gig to see if it helps. My crashes are all from the 3rd, 4th & 5th of this month, so I know they aren't old (not to mention, I've only just gotten this laptop back from Acer after having to have a new hard drive installed).

I don't know what to say about the DEP crashes. I've already tried that fix and it seems the last 3 crashes were all cause by it. Not sure what to do in that case. But I'll try the RAM and see what happens.

I think I need to write my own instructions...

http://easims.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/...p?p_faqid=37097

Under Vista, step 12 should say:

Quote:
12.If you also have World Adventures, add the following files located here:
Local Disk C: > Program Files > Electronic Arts > The Sims 3 Ambitions > Games > Bin

Step 13 should say:
Quote:
13.Add TS3EP02 to the allowed list of programs.

That's assuming you have Ambitions installed.

Edit: Actually, I might make clicking on DEP in CLA automatically add the exceptions...

Edit: Nevermind, the functions are undocumented and I can't automate it.
