Default Uni without fast track?
I noticed a lot of people mention that they use the cheat and fast track their sims through Uni if they even send them. Does anyone not do that?

I usually play all my YA through college, and I admit at times it can be tedious but also it's a great time for them to go out places and date around without biological clocks ticking. I have about 23 YA sims at college currently, two greek houses and then the rest are out in dorms. I'm thinking of building an apartment type place for the upperclassmen to move into. Uni is probably my favorite life stage so I just let the sims savor that freedom away from home before they have to grow up and get jobs and possibly start families.

Anyone else play with that philosophy or do you get too impatient? :p

Uh oh! My social bar is low - that's why I posted today.

I never fast track my sims through university. I like the freedom from pressure to marry and have children.

Me neither. It can get tedious from time to time but it's nice for them to get that extra time in life.

I've got one or two things on MTS, but most of my stuff is on my main site here:

I love University and wouldn't dream of fast-tracking or cheating through it. I'm often reluctant to let them move on, because I won't be playing them as often (since I do three rotations of University for every one of the rest of the world.) The friendships, rivalries, and ambitions that happen in University shape the rest of my sims' lives.

And y'know what, if you were the only one who didn't - so what?

I don't fast track my Uni students. I enjoy the parties and socializing that they don't often have time for once they have jobs and families. I do play mostly Greek houses so I can get a chunk of that generation through Uni at the same play time. For those that aren't in the Greek's I pair up into at least double houses, never have a single Sim living alone and I avoid couples living together in Uni. On the couples it's not a moral thing just that I tend to forget to have them date and go out when they live together.

Only fast tracking I've done was when I've had a upperclassman fall in love with a dormie, If I make them a playable then I usually fast track the dormie via the college adjuster to sync up with their SO.

Ok, so there are people who don't do it, I think I've just heard so many people complain how tedious is it is to play their YA's in the past that I wondered if anyone was just content with it. And Clashfan, I did use fast track once for a NPC YA to match up with their playable SO when they left. It's too bad all NPC's are perpetual Freshman, I think it would be a little more exciting if they all had pre-set years (frosh, soph, junior, senior) and our sims could just ask them in the ask option.

I dont. Why should I? If i do, then whats the point of having the EP if the main goal of it was to send sims to college for a PROPER education? Besides, I wont be able to handle everything if i "fast track" the time.

I don't fast track. I can't count the number of cohorts I've put through Uni at this point. Sometimes I have a group of Sims I really enjoy playing there, and sometimes it feels like a grind. However, since my Sims only do assignments and term papers when they roll a want, I need three days of auto-pushing to class just to get the romance, pleasure, and popularity Sims to *pass* a semester. Slackers.

Lately, Uni has been nothing but romantic chaos.

I so agree on that I would also like it if they had actual majors. It just seems strange when one of the long term residents finally matches up with a playable that they are still an undeclared freshman.

I don't see why so many people rush their sims through college. My sims really enjoy their time at college. It's their last chance to get wild and rowdy before they become adults. Most of my adult sims met their friends and spouses at college. What's so tedious about it anyway? All they have to do is go to class for only 3 hours a day, If their skills are high enough, they don't even have to write term papers or do assignments which means more time for parties, clubbing, dates, and hanging out with friends. So I say, keep your sims in college. Let them be young and have fun because adulthood brings nothing but responsibilities.

I don't play with fast track. Like most of the other posters, I love how much time it gives you. Sometimes it's a drag, but I really like all the time you have to make friends and skill up. Sometimes I have my legacy sims learn parenting while they're there.

I don't fast track my Sims through university, and as I play in rotations I usually play one rotation in the main hood/sub-hood, followed by two terms in university I always have Sims in university who are at various stages of their university life (freshmen, junior, etc). As I tend to micromanage my Sims in the main hoods, force myself not to do that while I'm playing through a rotation university. This allows my YA Sims to do as they please while in university.

Most of the story lines for my Sims futures are born out of events that occur during their university life, and by the time my Sims graduate I generally know how the Sim in question will fit into the neighborhood and what new directions the evolving story of my hood will go in when the Sim reintegrates into the hood as an adult.

Because I let my YA's do as they please during University I have many Sims who I thought would excel in University go on academic probation, because they have spent too much time partying, and socializing and I've found some Sims who I thought were going to fail miserably in school prove me wrong and become university juggernauts with 4.0 grade point averages.

I think that like every other aspect of the game University is what the player makes of it, but for me it really is a time where my Sims and I discover who these Sims are and what they want out of life after graduation.

I love the University-years and for me they are among the most interesting and enjoyable years in my sims whole lifes. The students can´t have jobs or children, but when you don´t have to think of those responsibilities, there are so many other things to do instead. I get to know my sims better during the uni-years, they can prepare themselves for the adult life and just have lots of fun. The first time I played University life I loved it and I still do! So fast-tracking is definitely not an option for me!

Without fast track, I have the tendency to make all my sims graduate with at least honors with no Academic Probation. I only have had one sim get academic probation, and that's because her lazy butt refused to go to the final exam even after I told her to like a hundred times. She was too busy being the dorm slut. She cheated on her high school boyfriend with Jimmy Pheonix, then cheated on Jimmy Pheonix with her ex, then on her ex with Jimmy, then when her ex-boyfriend moved out of the dorm to another dorm, she cheated on Jimmy with one of the dormies, then cheated on both of them with a Fritzl Blitzenstern. Then she dropped out and popped out some kids (Fritzl's son and a set of twin girls via Daniel Pleasant's sperm), who were taken away by the social worker because she was a horrible mother. Then Fritzl (who was a werewolf) adopted his boy back and that's another story, but with a happier ending.

But I digress.

I DO have fast track, but that is because it makes it more challenging for me, and because since my sims CAN get pregnant and raise families in college, it's not like my sims have a social life anyway. I'm an introvert myself, and I find it bothersome to play the social aspect of the game (except for getting lovers, which is much more entertaining than getting my sims friends). My sim's lives in college ARE interesting, but half of those college attending sims are juggling families and schoolwork. Apollo and Artemis, my alien hybrid children from the infamous Flint Hunter, did not have the family problem. That's because Apollo is gay and Artemis's boyfriend's sperm was not very potent. They had a loooot of unprotected sex in college, but no kids came out of it. Her boyfriend was also never rolling any engagement wants, so I probably should of taken that as a sign.

I used to try and make my sims finish uni using the college clock but then I noticed how much I was missing and could be doing with my sim. So what if he doesn't get a 4.0 average? At least hes passing and making friends and causing ruckus I've changed the way I play lately and I've definitely had more fun with them and don't feel like I'm being a zombie playing everyone the exact same way.

Only if it feels like they've been there too long (i.e. haven't played them in months to years) and/or I haven't done anything with them in a loooooong time. This usually happens when I send teens alone that have no storyline and/or they've been teens for too long xD

,I have to agree with everyone here, although I don't use fast tracker because I enjoy the YA years so much, I tend to almost always have a knowledge sim who tends to always study day and night, this can make it quite tedious to play university. I think it really just depends on the player as well as the sim you are playing.

I don't fast track through uni, unless having the speed on 3 for the majority of uni time counts.
I couldn't cheat at it, though, I kind of like my sims being around for several life stages, and I've always thought of the sims that I do send to uni, as my 'main' sims. P:

I try not to fast-track, but sometimes I get a dorm full of Knowledge sims with no romantic prospects and nothing (for me) can save the boredom save for speeding up the time to their final exam. I have been experimenting/trying out new ways of making university more interesting (and have sims that actually have the risk of dropping out). My issues with university are that I generally play to see new generations appear, and I fail at remembering about community lots. The former I can't really rectify, but the latter I've tried to do by avoiding putting all needed skilling items in dorms, and instead force my sims to some custom-built classrooms to socialise and skill up.

The answer to that, Katya, is to not have all the same aspiration in the same residence! Cram them together to give yourself some variety. The Pleasure sim can throw parties where the Knowledge sim meets his future wife (just as the meddling Pleasure sim planned), the Fortune sim at the frat plays chess with the Popularity sim so he can dean's list and his Pop guy get that a logic point that allows him to squeak by, the Romance sim tries to steal the Family sim's dates...it's easy to justify in dorms, and even in residences, it's not unusual for college students to advertise for roommates to share rent and wind up living with someone they'd never even have met on their own.

Ugly is in the heart of the beholder.

I used to fast track my sims through college but then realized how much fun uni time could actually be. It started with a group of random townie teens I sent to college together and they turned out to be so much fun that I was actually sad at how little time they had together. I took all my uni hacks out and now just play with the normal time span. I have them throw parties, meet other people, schmooze with professors. Sims only skill, write papers, and do college assignments when they roll the wants. Gives more variety with who fails and who passes. I got tired of everyone making the Deans List and having money to spend frivolously.

And of course I roll for aspirations so I don't get into my Knowledge/Family/Knowledge/Family rut.

I didn't know you could fast-track sims though uni, so obviously I never did. I am not going to though, even though I do complain it gets tedious, I try and work on that.

I shorten it a bit, but I still try to make it long enough for my sims to have the whole experience.

I'd love to properly play through uni, but it would just make my rotations super long, repetitive and not line up properly (e.g. a sim got pregnant in uni, by the time I finished 2 semesters/1 year the baby would be a child or so) so they've been shortened to 24 hours per semester. It still means I'm in each household for longer than I would usually spend per household but 12 hour semesters were way too chaotic and not fun.

Sometimes it is fun though to make a new neighbourhood and a new subhood and play through uni properly

I didn't know you could fast track it. It is indeed tedious, but I go all the way, unless I decide to have them drop out (personally I prefer to start at job level 1 and have to earn my way up)
