Community lot ideas
I dont know if anyone has ever posted something like this. Sims players are more or less familiar with BACC (build a city challenge), but I wonder what are limits of types of community lot? What are options and limits of community lots with UC game? I know that some of the expansions came with a certain type of community lot:

Night Life - restaurant
Open for Business - crafting stations and talents
Bon Voyage - hotel
...

The topic is for both vanilla and cc use.

Here's one of my fave old threads to reference inspirations for possible lots:

A-Z community lot ideas

Uh oh! My social bar is low - that's why I posted today.

That's a great thread! I'm sure some of my ideas are already in there, but:

- I built a schoolhouse with a playground for my sims. It's not really functional, but I just like to have a school in town that I can pretend my teachers and students go to.
- There's also a saloon that has a bar, darts, pool, and poker. The sims are really addicted to the poker table, so a casino would be fun to make.
- A basketball court, either by itself or attached to a playground. Maybe a skate park is possible with cc?
- It'd be fun to make a corner store with an apartment for the family above it. Or a restaurant (Bob's Burgers comes to mind.)
- A garage where your sims sell cars and also fix up the junk car.
- Hotels, motels, hostels.
- Assisted living facility
- Trailer park
- Campground/summer camp
- Art center where your sims paint portraits of each other
- Therapist's office
- Aquarium
- Museums (natural history/art/physics)

Also I've been playing Civ V a lot lately, so here are some buildings from there that you could build in the Sims:
- Monastery (or abbey)
- Places of worship: cathedrals, pagodas, mosques, temples, shrines
- Military base/barracks
- Circus
- Courthouse
- Lighthouse
- Bomb shelter
- Bazaar
- National monument

A Chris Hatch School system? I only know of Inge's school system on Simlogical. Is there another one?

I recently had fun building some community lots based on memories of my childhood. I'm sure none of these are super-original but I made them all without much CC. A lot of these work well if you have the mod that allows skilling on community lots. I hope these spark some ideas.

Meet and Greet - This is a very small lot modeled on those information centers you sometimes see in small touristy towns. It's intended to be a place where you can fulfill the meet someone new want. There's an office with a computer and a jobs board (CC), a magazine rack (brochures for browsing), a picnic area and a coffee counter. Since there's not a lot to do, they always wind up talking with each other when they go there.

Co-op - This is my local co-owned organic grocery store. I made it pretty spacious because I don't like it when they get all bunched up. It sells food, magazines, and some hippie clothing. There's also a hot bar (mini fridge + microwave) and a coffee bar with seating on the patio.

Roll and Bowl - I'm sure that I'm not the first person to come up with the name, but it's a combo bowling alley and roller rink with a disco theme. Video games, photo booth, snack bar and vending machines (CC), disco lights.

Sportsplex - This seems to be a favorite with my Sims. Big pool with slide, hot tub, workout area. They will autonomously work out on the treadmill and a small trampoline I found on here that they like to bounce on. Sauna and showers, picnic area, vending machines.

ArtsCenter - This is based on where I took art and drama classes as a kid. There's an art studio, a gallery for local artists, a small music studio (singing), and a stage with instruments plus a bar for nighttime concerts.

Teen Center - Only teens allowed using visitor controller. Snack machines, a computer, pool table, darts and chess, and a small dance room for those awkward teen dances. You can buy a cell phone or get your photo taken with your girlfriend/boyfriend.

Christmas World - This is based on tacky roadside stops I remember from childhood trips. It's mostly for ice skating, but it has all the Christmas decorations. You can get coffee or eat at the pancake counter. There's a wishing well too (CC).

Healing Hot Springs - This is where I send my Sims when I am fed up with them being sick. It has a CC well that cures disease, but even without that it would be a nice lot. Tucked away in the woods, there's a hot springs, picnic area, swing. This is a nice place for socializing.

Town Park - My park has a fishing pond, several chess tables (it's where the chess club meets), and dart boards. Sometimes I modify it for camping. You have to have a mod that allows sleeping on community lots.

I also have two places for dates: a sleazy corner bar (adults only) and a nice pub/restaurant.

All of my lots have a purpose: to fulfill a want or a need, to get skills, or as a place to do specific in-game activities, like date. When building community lots, I found that it helped to build it around one or two specific functions and to get inspiration from the real world. And every lot needs bathrooms!

I've always started with a community service center as my only community lot in a new town and a general store is added later as the town grows.I'll add single purpose community lots in a larger town with multiple neighborhoods as shopping districts or downtowns.

I always tend to think about what my sims might like to do and create lots based on those ideas. I then use the visitor controller to allow or deny based on various attributes: Aspiration, career, hobby, personality, age, gender, sexuality, relationship status, financial status. If it's a lot that's suitable for toddlers and/or pets, I am trying to remember to include a teleporter, so that if I see sims who probably should have their kids or dogs with them, I can bring them along!

I've built/used lots such as these in my hoods. Maybe not every single hood has every one but they have all existed in some form or other.

I don't *always* add toilets, or food sources. Sometimes I want sims to go home after spending a short time somewhere or visit several lots. But normally these things are present.

Outdoor space:
Square or central plaza or garden: The layout and positioning causes it to be a feature of the hood. There is not always much to do here, it might just be for show or be intended to represent a walkway. Often has a fountain and/or big statue, clear paths and nice landscaping/plants (or interesting paving). Sometimes I add things like a coffee stand or food cart, space for sports or busking. Ice rink could go here in winter as a "special event". Possibly the breakdancer or mime hangs out here too.
Beach: Kind of works by itself. Sometimes a toilet block/fake car park or maybe even a small shop or café at the top. I tend to use terrain to make it look rocky and surround with the beach boulders to hide the edges. I might add outdoor activities, a BBQ, fire pile/campfire, some kids' toys/clutter, umbrellas. I like Plasticbox's Elsewhere beaches with the little shelter hut with a fireplace and cosy bookcase/chess
Forested or wooded area: Usually at the edge of a clump of hood deco trees. Will add lots of trees, terrain paint, shrubs and then some hidden activities to entice sims to wander around the lot - maybe a swing set/other playground stuff, or axe throwing set. I did a hot spring once (which was a bit strange!), hidden graves in order to allow ghosts to spawn there. Benches (canoodling!), never added tents but maybe I should. If you don't add activities, sims will automatically do the nature activities like birdwatching and bug hunting.
Lake: Similar to the woods, sometimes I will combine. More likely to have a BBQ or campfire spot as more open/less fire risk! For the forest/lake sometimes I might add a toilet block next to a car park, sometimes it's supposed to be too remote for those things.
Maze: Never done this but I like the idea of it I might add one. I'd probably hide different activities in the parts of the maze so that sims look like they are wandering around it, or combine with a playground/pool/attraction type lot.

Place to take the kids:
Playground: Playground equipment, bench for parents, toilet block (unless it's tiny and nestled between houses), maybe a BBQ spot or outdoor pool, sometimes sports equipment, trees. Ban all aspiration except family and grow up.
Swimming pool (family): Pools - usually multiple, indoor or outdoor. A big main one, a smaller kiddie one with slides, maybe a CFE cheat one if I can be bothered Hot tub, sauna, maybe gym equipment and/or outdoor sport or playground equipment. Small café (uni stove) or vending machines or BBQ spot outside. I added an ice rink to one, which is intended as a winter only addition (I will swap the lot out for an identical one with something else in that space for the other months). Changing rooms including toilets, benches with deco rucksacks and towels scattered around.
Bowling alley: Bowling lanes with seating, diner, vending machines, maybe some other activities like pool/arcade stuff/roller rink/photobooth. Toilets, seating and music areas, possibly a DJ booth and/or break dancer.
Museum: Lots of things to look at, maybe on a theme (sports, space, history, animals) - skilling/play items if they seem appropriate. Maybe things like doll house, telescopes, craft table, ant farm. Toilets, café, gift shop.
Castle/Stately Home: Again never done this, but might look into it for the future. Would probably build the house (or castle ruin) with a route to go around and add toilets and a small café and gift shop.

Skilling lots:
Library: Bookshelves, mainly, and a computer section. Maybe a coffee/cake section, maybe a chess club room. Seating areas, toilets. Sometimes a small performance area with the mic. Sometimes combine with bookshop so sims can buy novels and magazines. In uni hoods, group study areas and sometimes a proper café. For serious sims.
Community centre: Chess, bookshelves and easels. Myshuno ("bingo"), small kitchenette ("Cooking classes"), medium hall with piano, maybe for parties. Computers and Mog's job-seeking noticeboards. Sometimes a yoga or tai chi class. Aimed at low-income or elderly sims.
Uni major lots: A building for each faculty. Skilling items and small common area. Restricted to sims in the correct majors (+ dormies) (For uni campus hoods).
Gym: Swimming pool (more serious one), changing areas, gym equipment, maybe sports equipment, music/TV screens, possibly Sauna/hot tub/massage tables, possibly breakdance class room, depending on the feel. Vending machines rather than a café. For fitness sims, or I might do active + serious.
Sports centre/club: Sports equipment with proper pitches, maybe multiple, maybe specific. Viewing areas. Changing areas + separate toilet for spectators. Bar (+ snacks), sporty decorations. Bigger room for a post-match celebration, or party. Active + playful

Teen hangouts:
Youth club: Seating areas with TV/music, kids' crafting table, pool/pinball/board games. Maybe some sport facilities, maybe a photo booth (If you have inteen + ACR, beware of this!) Bookcases, computer/games console. Maybe break dancer and/or uni café stove (just so it looks like there are some adults present!) otherwise ban all older than kids/teens. Mini-kitchen for snacks like ramen, and kiddie oven.
Recreation ground: Some open space, maybe a basketball hoop, maybe a couple of swings/roundabout/climbing frame. Benches. Usually a bit run down. No toilets or food.
Shopping mall: Various shops (mainly clothing), a salon, maybe a bowling alley/arcade or restaurant area in the basement, diner, coffee shop, seating areas, toilets.
Arcade: Pinball machines and arcade machines, maybe pool if room. Small seating area, vending machines, toilets. Dark deco and neon lighting.
Roller/ice rink: Roller or ice areas, diner or vending machine, small changing area with toilets. Seating, music.
Alleyways/other secluded space: Grungy or portable looking BBQ, fire pile, portable music, break dancer (maybe), possibly a basketball hoop, fake seating (broken stuff, boxes, abandoned trolleys etc). Ban "nice" and "neat" or go via careers.

Entertainment (adults):
Cabaret/music/comedy club: Stage with mic (+ maybe piano), small cosy tables to watch from, bar, maybe also restaurant. Toilets.
Concert hall: Performance room with stage + seating with aisle, music items and/or mic on stage, toilets, bar area with seating.
Art gallery: Art and sculptures to look at, small café area, kids' activity area with crafting table, maybe a small gift shop.
Casino: Pool + poker tables, bar.
Dance hall: Large space, piano/other instruments, seating around the edge.
Karaoke club: Karaoke machine, space for smustle dancing. Very fun. Bar, toilets but no food.
Family/normal pub: Bar, seating areas, pool table, darts board, kids' play area outside.
Flat-roof pub: Bar, seating, pool, poker, karaoke, SimSlice beer, owner served food - very hostile to non-locals!
Pub with performance area: Bar, musical items, SimSlice beer.

Date locations:
Singles bar: Several small booths with room only for 2 sims, toilets, bar. Use VC to ban the wrong sexuality/gender according to whoever you have sent there and ban "attached" and pregnant (unless you want your pregnant sims dating). Good way to meet new eligible single sims of your preferred gender and who may be attracted to you! I do not add food. If they get hungry or want to do anything together, I start a date and move them somewhere else.
Gay/lesbian bar: Like any other bar but use VC to ban straight (and ban one sex if choosing purely gay or lesbian). Another good way to meet people, or just hang out with your GF/BF.
Nightclub: DJ booth, dance sphere, dance cages (SimWardrobe), maybe a hot tub
Restaurants of all types

Shopping: - I find I do not actually make sims visit shops very often unless I have a specific reason to. Things like furniture shops, plant shops, the ones which come with the game - I don't use them. I tend to use shops for things I can't buy from the catalogue, or to simulate a specific experience. These are what I do use:
Pet shop: Pet dispensing thingys.
Grocery store: Groceries, till. Maybe a coffee shop section, maybe a small play area or something outside.
Coffee shop: Coffee bar, exnem dessert cart, cosy seating, toilets.
Wedding shop: Clothing, changing booths, photo booth, mini-salon, cologne, jewellery, then loads of deco items for the wedding itself. Ban singles - you get some cuteness popping up here
Game shop: Game rack, arcade machines, TV-on-wall.
Toy/baby shop: OFB kids' toys, CC kids' toys, deco, clothing + changing booth (maternity wear).
Bookshop: Novels, bookcases, magazine rack, place to sit and read, coffee machine.
Strip mall: Several different shop types in a row. Lets me include things I wouldn't use otherwise.

I use the sims as a psychology simulator...

Is there any documentation anywhere online? I can’t use most of his mods because they are complex and there’s no documentation about how to get them to work.
