Can anyone point me to a mod/hack that will allow Sims to travel to community lots by either/or taxi and walking? IE, a Sim takes a taxi to a community gym and then can WALK across the street to the diner for lunch rather than having to call a taxi. To what? Make a U turn and drop them off on the other side of the street? Have searched thru Google and found nothing but attempts at lot sync mods. If anyone knows of such a mod please point me to it. Many thanks in advance!
I don't think you'll find that combo exactly. Chris Hatch does have a bus mod and a subway mod, which should let you arrive on a lot one way, and exit another way, iirc. But I don't think there was a mod for taxis, since the game already has one. And with the regular game mechanics, the way sims enter and exit the lot must be the same.
ETA: I was able to get on my desktop so I can copy paste the mod info:
The Subway Rail System (Bon Voyage EP minimum required)
CJH_Subway(BV+).zip (Main File), CJH_SubwayRecolours.zip (Requires the Global Overrides).
Found in the Community catalogue in Cars is the Subway Entrance. This is a functional subway and will enable your sims to go underground to catch a train to another community lot. Only travel between community lots is enabled because I can't conceive anyone actually having a private train station in their own back yard. There are no options available from a home lot nor is there a 'Go Home' option. When your sims travel by rail to another lot then if there's a subway entrance on the lot they travel to they'll emerge from the subway when they arrive, otherwise they'll arrive 'on foot'. The subway will generate an 'invisible walking lot car' for your family shortly after arrival so sims that arrive by train can still walk to another lot or home. 'non walk-by' visitors will arrive and depart via the subway to give it some life.
The subway comes in default green, Recolour package includes red and blue recolours and a couple of poster options.
Community Buses (Bon Voyage EP minimum required)
CJH_CommunityBuses(BV+).zip (Requires the Global Overrides).
The main Bus Stop is found in the catalogue under Seating / Miscellaneous is a Sheltered Bus Stop. It is a replica of Apartment Life's neighbourhood decoration so from neighbourhood view the bus stops will all match each other.
Although the sheltered bus stop is a seat and categorised as a seat the only option normally available is 'Catch a Bus' this is the same as 'sit' except it will launch a taxi phone call and run it in the background to call the bus. Once a bus has been called, or more accurately once travel controller exists the option changes to 'Wait for the Bus' which is also the same as 'sit'. (women in bikinis can also 'Lounge' on the seat because that looks too good to disable). Sims can walk through the sides of the bus stop, extending the mesh to prevent that throws the seating slots out and the game assumes sims can sit at every tile on a seat which is likely to cause either missing slot errors or sims to sit in mid air. Placing a couple of small shrubs or sculptures carefully around is the best way to prevent them.
The sheltered bus stop does have an alternative mesh which is just the seat (no shelter), to change to the alternate mesh place a second sheltered bus stop on the first (with moveObjects Cheat) then delete the second one.
The Bus Stop sign (available above) if installed is found in the catalogue under Decorative / Miscellaneous. It will enable catching a bus once this is installed. As placing a big sign is impractical in an apartment lot, the sign will become tiny and be placable on coffee tables etc in an apartment. With the exception of apartment lots sims will go to the sign to wait for the bus. At apartments where the sign is likely to be inside sims will go to the letter box once a bus has been called.
The taxi call will also add some random sims to get onto the bus, depending on availability it will try to increase the number of sims getting on the bus to random 4,5 or 6. If you already have that many or more in the travelling party then it will not try to increase it at all. If you're travelling to a lot other than home the extra travellers will arrive with your sims and already be greeted on arrival even if they were complete strangers when they all left.
When the bus arrives at your destination an 'invisible walking lot transitions car' is generated in the current family's name so your sims can leave the lot by walking. When a bus leaves a lot it will clean up any walking lot transitions cars in current family's name, this allows your sims to walk from home to a lot that has a bus stop then, after commuting around in a bus walk home again. The sheltered bus stops are visible from neighbourhood view and are a bit big to have one on every lot if the lots are grouped close together, I only use them at community lots but they can be used at home if you wish. Sims can catch a bus to their home but sims always arrive home in whatever vehicle they left in. Unless they have a bus stop at home and left home in a bus then leaving one lot by bus and arriving at another on foot may seem a bit odd. However in the real world catching a bus home normally leaves you walking from the bus stop to home, rarely will a bus drop you off at your door so catching a bus home even if they left on foot is not always odd.
You must not block the entrance of a bus, the tile next to the door. If sims can't get to that tile they will not even begin to try to get on the bus. Sims will make twelve attempts to get to that tile if there's another sim on the tile, often the case with multiple sims travelling. They wait for the other sim then try again after twelve fails they 'miss the bus'. The default was six attempts, I increased that to twelve and haven't yet had a sim miss the bus except one time when there was a light pole on the tile blocking the entrance to the bus.
Thanks for the link to those Mods, Phantomknight. I will give them a try, possibly better than a Sim having to get a taxi to cross the street!
