Default Feedback Requested: Kelp Recipes for Mermaids...
... and those who love them.

One of the niggling details of Island Paradise is that Mermaids have a "Discuss Kelp Recipes" interaction, but there ARE no kelp recipes in the game. So I made some.

I have four recipes:
  • Seaweed Salad: Cooking level 1, requires kelp
  • Miso Soup: Cooking 4, requires kelp and tofu
  • Grilled Fish Sandwich: Grillable, requires kelp and fish
  • Spicy Tuna Roll: Cooking level 7, requires kelp, tuna, and ghost chili

These use CCLoader (https://modthesims.info/showthread....598#post4660598) and require it to be installed in order to run.

If you have icarus_allsorts's Ingredient Moodlets From Meals (https://modthesims.info/d/520711/up...r-mermaids.html), then Mermaids should get full hunger bars from eating these.

I'd love to be able to use CCLoader's event and buff features to fill hunger bars for Mermaids without the help of icarus_allsorts's mod, but I haven't figured out yet how to define a buff that only affects Mermaids.

Also, in a world where I know how to script mod, I'd love to be able replace the Discuss Kelp Recipes moodlets to include the chance to learn one of these recipes if you have the correct cooking skill. But the recipes themselves seems are done now and can be used as intended with the help of the additional mod.

I'd love some feedback and testing particularly on the spicy tuna roll. It requires an EP7 ingredient, and I'm not clear what it will do for someone who doesn't have EP7 installed.

I discovered that Miso Soup was using the wrong saucepan image, so I replaced it with the correct one.

Hi Echoweaver!

I've tested the recipes and so far no huge errors or anything to report. I have noticed the following: I have geeniesims' polish pattern default replacement plates in my game and with the seaweed salad, the plate "flickers". It picks up the default replacement but it is as if the two patterns interferes with one another. The other recipes do not have this problem, and the default replacement pattern on the plates displays as it should. I also found that when the seaweed salad plate is supposed to be empty (the sim has finished his plate and is done eating), the plate still appears full.

I'm not done testing yet. I'm going to move the recipes over to my main game now, where the environment is bit less clinical than a test file. I'll let you know if anything comes up. Honestly though, the above glitches, for me at least, is not off-putting. Thank you for the effort you made with the mod and the tutorial!! I love that you made the recipes so the sims have to buy the recipe and learn it.

I've been trying my hand at custom recipes, but for someone that knows little to nothing about coding, I didn't progress far, so I will definitely spend some time with your tut.

Thanks so much!

Wow.... I'm not sure what to do with a default plate replacement. The cloning process clones the plates too. I thought the cloned plates would mean that the recipe had its own copy of the plate texture, so I'm kind of surprised that the replacements worked as well as they did.

I'll investigate both of these issues.

I never found what was wrong with the eaten seaweed salad, but I rebuilt it, and now it works. I adjusted the image for the serve texture so that they don't look the same anymore, and I really like the new one.

I'll see if I can download the dish default replacement to take a look at that. If it was just the seaweed salad that was causing plate problems, then it might also be fixed. Alternately, it could be the cloned plates, in which case I THINK I might know how to point back to the original in-game plate.

Howdy!

I have been testing this in my game for a while and I tested every recipe and it works pretty good. However, I also have icarus' mod and there is one very odd thing with Seaweed Salad and Miso Soup. When these two dishes are made by my sim in the usual way they provide full hunger, but they do not provide full hunger when they are made with ITF's food synthesizer. The other two both provide full hunger in both situations so this thing only applies to the first two dishes, at least in my game. In icarus' mod's xml file, I made it so that fish always provide full hunger regardless of how many there are in the dish, so maybe it can recognize the fish in grilled sandwich and spicy tuna roll but not the kelp, and because of this maybe it provides full hunger only for recipes that contain fish or something. I really don't know what is going on in there lol. BTW I also have this mod from icarus that modifies ITF synthesizer, if it makes any difference: https://modthesims.info/d/557378/up...op-up-menu.html

I also tested this with Genie's summon food option and it also gives full hunger there. The only thing that seems to be problematic is the food synthesizer for now.

Another suggestion, can you add one of the low level cooking dishes for breakfast? Since this is like the only thing mermaids eat it would be nice to have that option.

Thank you for making this. I applied this to my current ongoing mermaid legacy game and it really improved it a lot. Mermaids seriously needed some love for a long time so I really appreciate it <3

Thank you so much for giving them a try!

Huh. The fish sandwich and tuna roll are both made with fish. So, at a guess, Icarus's mod recognizes fish but not kelp when dealing with the food synthesizer. I bet this is true when foods are purchased from vendors too. This kind of makes sense -- Icarus wouldn't have been able to test vendor recipes with kelp because there weren't any.

I mean, it's not 100% that the problem is with Icarus's mod, but I don't immediately see how it could come from the recipes.

In other news -- here is the fixed version of Seaweed Salad. I haven't yet tested against the default replacement plates. Please be sure to delete the old one, because this one won't replace it.

The other thing I haven't figured out how to do is favorite foods. I have flagged the recipes as as "Can be favorite," but they don't appear on the menu for favorite foods when you attempt to change favorites using the lifetime reward. One likely reason is that there is no favorite food icon, since those are different from the thumbnails used for the food itself. I can find examples of those icons (IMAG) resources in the game data packages, but I haven't figured out yet how to connect the resource to the recipe.

I think I'll probably submit them anyway, even if I can't figure out the favorite food issue. I can look into favorite foods and release an update at some point if I learn how to do it. I'd love to do a version that doesn't need Icarus's mod to function, too, someday.
