Hi there! You are currently browsing as a guest. Why not create an account? Then you get less ads, can thank creators, post feedback, keep a list of your favourites, and more!
I have never made a mod for the sims games, but I have been wanting to make some things like a industrial/sci fi generator and other objects, mostly using existing objects from the science stuff, like what you might find in the science lab career in the "go to work" pack.
Is this an easy or hard thing to do?
This is definitely not easy if you've never modded before, even with using existing objects. I recommend starting with food recipes to see how recipes function in general (and they are the most widely covered), then work your way backwards into the crafting system to understand how they work.
Here are some other resources and regular tutorials. TDESC is your most valuable tool, and and it's recommended you have XML Extractor and File Finder so you can see how files are referenced and connected:
XML Extractor (Windows) if you want to update or make new mods before S4S updates, and XML File Finder (needs the extractor and in the same download) to see connections/references between each file without having to manually search for them. File Finder is very useful and highly recommended, even if you don’t use the XML Extractor for modding. https://scumbumbomods.com/#/xml-extractor/
There are tools that handle injecting for you for common areas, so you don’t need to focus on scripting until the time is right. This includes: XML Injector: (interactions, loots, buffs to traits, reward traits, name objects, object relationships, states): https://scumbumbomods.com/xml-injector/ Injection Tools (for situations, walk-bys, etc.): https://brainblasted.itch.io/injection-tools Andrew’s Crafting Enabler (for injecting recipes like food, books, etc.): https://sims4studio.com/post/72754 Mod Constructor: (not an injector, except where needed, but can be used to make interactions, buffs, traits, careers, aspirations, events, and a few others): https://zerbu.tumblr.com/post/18178...-constructor-v4

I have done mods before, just not for the sims games (except one sim city game)
I know that depending on the language used, some of it is just a copy and paste job of effects etc.
some objects require a special flag to ID them as a item of X type and so on.
I also tend to learn best when working on something specific with a goal in mind.
Could you tell or show me what the coding files look like to see if I can work it in my head?
