Default How to retexture Maxis head?
To access a specific head, I used The Sims Creator and saved the skin file in bmp.
After editing the texture in Photopea and placing it in the skins folder, the skin does not appear in the game.
Am I doing something wrong? I’m not creating the texture in The Sims Creator because I also want to edit the hair.

What name did you save the skin under? The part before the underscore needs to reference the correct mesh, and the part after the underscore must be 14 characters or less. Also, if you name it EXACTLY the same as an existing texture, the game will only override the existing texture if you put it in the right folder (as we've already discussed in the baby thread). If you put a skin into the Skins folder with the exact same name as an existing skin, the game will simply ignore it.

In what format did you save the skin? It needs to be in 8-bit format with 256 colors. I'm not familiar with Photopea, but in Photoshop Elements, I convert the skin to RGB format to edit it then convert it back into Indexed Color Mode before saving, and I save it with Local Perceptual color palette.

I have a tutorial for making VERY simple recolors at https://www.reddit.com/r/sims1/comm..._sims_1_outfit/; for more complex recolors, check out this tutorial from Moon Sims on the Wayback Machine.

I've made some mods for The Sims 1 -- yes, The Sims ONE :-) -- which you can find at http://corylea.com/Sims1ModsByCorylea.html

Thank you for your help! I double-checked my folder and found the skin inside a subfolder. After deleting the subfolder, the skin shows up in the game, but the head texture appears white. I’m guessing something might be off with the colors? I edited and saved the image as a BMP file. Do I need to convert it to RGB?

It definitely needs to be a BMP file. Please tell me what you named it, and please confirm that you saved it in 256 color format.

I saved it in 256 color format, and the skin is now showing in the game! Thank you for mentioning that! I wanted to test another Maxis skin as a replacement, and it's working well too!
I've shared my work on my blog for anyone curious about what I did. Thank you again, Corylea, for all your help. I don’t know what I would do without you!
