Default Do you celebrate holidays in sims?
Christmas is coming, but in my game it's high summer and wedding season.
How is it in your game? Do your sims celebrate holidays? What traditions do you have?
Happy weekend everyone!

I never have, but I'd love to incorporate it into my game. Can't wait to see what other people have come up with!

Yes, kind of. I take holiday pictures of my sims (whichever holidays I have the time/energy to do), but I don't really play the holidays (not any more, anyway).

I feel a special relationship with some Sims in my game, namely Andrew, Gloria (his mum), Julian (Andrew's long term boyfriend, and his husband since 2020) and Garry (Gloria's husband (also since 2020, and her boyfriend before then) Andrew and Gloria were the very first Sims I played. They arrived in Veronaville on 30th November 2012 (exactly 12 years ago tomorrow). Garry was added a few days later, and Julian a little later in December (along with his family of mum, dad and two younger siblings). If all goes well, I will be celebrating Thanksgiving with them tomorrow. I play very loose rotations with Aging off, and I don't have Seasons, so there's nothing to stop me spending holidays with them. In addition to Thanksgiving, which we now celebrate annually on 30th November, I try to get together with them for Christmas Day, New Year's Day and St. Valentine's Day (14th February). Occasionally I sometimes spend some of these days with another Veronaville household, but Andrew tends to turn up there too, especially at Christmas, as he's one of the few Sims in my game who knows how too cook a turkey!

So yes, my Sims celebrate some of the major festivals of the year, and I love to celebrate with them!

All Sims are beautiful -- even the ugly ones.

I have played Christmas and Easter. Being from Australia, Christmas is in high summer and Easter is in Autumn. I have also played New Year. Not in this hood though, it's still too young. My other hood has a party shop and I check and see who has bought decorations.

I have a Christmas decoration shop and also check who bought decorations But I still don't celebrate Christmas (which I thought I would start doing when I built the store...)

When I have time to play, oh heck yeah I celebrate holidays in there! I'm still trying to find/make decorations for the various holidays, but I have an entire "Christmas" folder I drop in specifically for the month (and I've been collecting downloads since 2006 lol)

Only if the season is upon them. I did it last time there was a winter season in Arundel. Everyone who wanted to give a gift did so. But as for trees and all of that, there were none as the idea of a 'Christmas Tree" did not start in England until Queen Victoria had one.

"The custom of displaying Christmas trees was introduced to Britain in the late 18th century by Queen Charlotte, consort of George III, although it was a yew tree rather than a fir that was used. The Christmas tree was popularised by Queen Victoria and Prince Albert in the 19th century, with images of their family gathering around the Christmas tree being published in the Illustrated London News in 1848."

Medieval times were a bit different in celebrating Christmas-it was mostly a religious celebration.

Queen Victoria was quite a trendsetter. The custom of wearing white as a bride was started by her too.

Those Victorian Christmas trees with real candles certainly explain why someone thought that sim Christmas trees should catch on fire! XD

I got into the holiday spirit early and looked up Victorian Christmas trees and found some with candles. https://riekus13.tumblr.com/post/13...one-month-week3

Then I wondered what people would have had before Christmas trees and found a working Yule log. https://www.medievalsims.com/forums...9405&hilit=yule

I don't end up celebrating holidays in sims because now that I have seasons the years just move too fast and I'm never really in the spirit when the time for one comes around.

Speaking of Victorian Christmas though, if you ever want entertainment just Google image search "Victorian Christmas cards". They're...a bit different from modern ones.

I started playing Christmas in-game when I got the Seasons expansion pack. I kinda like "Santa Klaus" in the game.

Christmas is part of Angela Smyth (Angela Pleasant)'s story because they put her on a bus to Hillsdale County Girls' Academy (Hillsborough Girls' Academy IRL; the worst of the worst girls in the state of Florida go there) with a Houdini Vest on in addition to her shackles a week before Christmas, and she cried as Linus and Lucy played on the radio in that old Bluebird as it took off down a bumpy road from the juvenile detention center they had her at awaiting transfer, but none of that actually happened in-game. (For those unfamiliar, I did a role reversal on the twins, with Angie the misunderstood girl who got really serious trouble and seen as a problem child, and Lily becoming the goodie-two-shoes cheerleader, but they both have a happy ending).
