The "Look at This Awesome Thing I Found!" thread

Hi, I thought that since there have been a few of these threads popping up for one CC item pet thread, I thought it might be nice if there was one big thread where we shared our finds (if that's okay with the moderators!).

Crisps&Kerosene recreated the Sims 1 ice cream stand- and it's functional!! I can't wait to try it out in the game! She's also made a working tea set, which I had been needing for a long time! (There was at least one, but it didn't fit all my households decoration-wise, and it was one of those things where the stupid sims never stop using it.)

And for your Regency girls and ladies (TF and AF), cupcakeyy just released a whole bunch more - 63, in fact! - of her refitted gowns here.

For people who don't go on Plumbbob Keep, Sunni and Fractured Moonlight have been working on a whole bunch of amazing things that can be used in a modern game too, like a winery (grow the grapes, stomp them, let them age, and then you can sell the bottles or drink it yourself!), more garden crops than you can shake a stick at, and chickens that don't add any character files that you can't pull!

DezzyDoesThings 11th Oct 2015 1:17 AM

:lovestruc OH MY GOD THANK YOU!!! I wanted these so bad but couldn't find them listed on PlumbbobKeep!

joandsarah77 11th Oct 2015 3:14 AM

It pays to check the Sun&Moon section regularly. Since I could not log in for unknown reasons, about 6 month ago they were nice enough to open the area to guests, so you don't have to register to download the items.

FranH 11th Oct 2015 4:35 AM

Sims Cave usually has the updates from simblrs every day-and C&K is always there. I grabbed that ice cream stand as soon as I saw it.

You don't have to be a member of Sims Cave to be able to check the updates for Sims 2, 3 or 4-because they all go to the individual postings, thank goodness. (rues that I lost my log in when I changed computers...uggh.)

I hope this thread never dies 😋

grammapat 11th Oct 2015 4:35 PM

I had a couple of CC that I loved for an old west hood; a butter churn and a clothes washing bucket. Does the churn mentioned here have options to use as food (putting in fridge increases food count) or can be sold in a bowl? There was (from some site I don't remember) a WEAVING bench, where they could make (and pretty quickly) beds, tables, etc. They looked good in a tiki sort of house, and body & cushions could be color-changed.

joandsarah77 11th Oct 2015 11:38 PM

The butter churn is Rebeka's at Affinity sims.
The woven furniture if by Sun&Moon at PlumbBobkeep.

My side (literally) hurts!

aldebearart 18th Oct 2015 7:32 AM

I, personally, am a perfectionist and stress myself out trying to build a Simlogical school for every neighborhood as I think a town without a school is like wrong. I mean, come on - you send your kids off on a bus everyday. That's fine and dandy but if your terrain map has no roads leading to a school or out of the town, where are the children going?

I found this earlier today and suddenly the game is wonderful again... it's the 3t2 rabbit holes. If you don't know, rabbit holes are pretty much when the Sim goes inside of a building to do an action but you can't see INSIDE the building. Like they walk into a ghost or something. These, of course, are just for deco but at least my children have somewhere to go to and the person who drives the bus isn't a kidnapper.

Not as interesting as other finds, but I was so impressed with this hair:
http://digitalperversion.net/garden...p?topic=18908.0
This hair actually looks exactly the same as my real life hair. The weird flick on the left and the colour and it's even the same length. It's too bad I don't make Simselves anymore, but I'm still going to download it.

Edit: Spoke too soon, the download link doesn't seem to be working for me

smorbie1 31st Oct 2015 5:55 PM

I looked at the pumpkin-carving station and really want it, but how does one get the pumpkins for it? The only thing my sims ever grow is tomatoes. I don't have them farm that often, though, are pumpkins something they eventually learn to grow?

RedSimmies 31st Oct 2015 6:15 PM

It must be the new harvestables, here: http://www.medievalsims.com/forums/...hp?f=240&t=7786

ETA: No, they don't grow pumpkins in vanilla game. Just tomatoes, strawberries, cucumbers, peppers, pole beans and eggplants

I got to give a big-shout out to Sophie David. found right here on your favourite site.
She has managed to put babies to bed if you playing a medieval hood.
But right now she tackling the issue of how to make decent libraries, clubs and hood.
http://www.modthesims.info/download.php?t=566690

It works for me, I dumped the tv in the library, (cause it didn't make sense) instead my sims are doing books, looking at them, talking about them and reading.

saturnian 6th Nov 2015 8:48 AM

LotR fans might like some of the stuff at www.mirkwood-sims.de. The Eowyn gowns are especially nice reproductions of the movie costumes.

Also check out their Dark Fashion section if you want some outfits for your flirty females.

Bigsimsfan12 7th Nov 2015 11:51 PM

WIth the aging population in my current hood, I set out to get some clothing for my elderly sims. I found Cocomama has some funky styles for the over 60s (or however old elders are in your game), as well as someone suggested on another thread CatOfEvilGenius.

joandsarah77 8th Nov 2015 2:57 AM

Not much for the old men around though. I tend to use a lot of defaults but I am always having issues with them, like the male polo that showed up with an invisible torso.

You know how we all get frusterated by "Do you mind if I give your number to my friend "Universal NPC Do Not Touch Or You Have To Reinstall?"

I think this Cyjon mod: http://cyjon.net/node/239 is a fix for that, if I understand what I'm reading correctly. (Conciseness is a gift, and one Cyjon got more than a fair share of!)

gummilutt 22nd Nov 2015 11:56 PM

Not trying to promote my own creation as awesome, this is just the only thread we have on Sims 2 forum where you share downloads you found elsewhere. I had to upload this one on a different site than MTS due to guidelines, and I don't know how many check Leefish regularly. MTS is my Sims-home, so I want to share it with you guys

I modded the AL baby items (baby bounce and dangle monster) and removed the sleep-part, so that they are just for babies to be entertained when their parents/caretakers are busy. You can find them at Leefish, if you'd like to have them.

Thank you, I have always hated that problem. Not only do bad sims come through that, but other seemingly harmless areas of the game.

I've even had a sim bring a friend to a lot that turned out to be a bus driver. They were completely unable to be asked to leave or interacted with period... So I quit without saving. That's why I never let sims do that ever again.

gummilutt 7th Dec 2015 6:40 PM

I did not find this, Curls77 told me about them but oh my god best thing ever. Thank you Curls77, I am very grateful!

Anyone who has seen any of my set-creations knows I am a sucker for every possible combination. I can't predict what combinations I may want one day, and it drives me nuts when I have something that is almost what I want but not quite. No! All of the things all of the time. And so this creation is right up my alley.

CatherineTCJD has made a wallpaper-overlay series, that takes all of the wall decorations from Maxis wallpapers, and separates them from the actual wallpaper. Now you can have that border, the trim, the panels or what have you, with any wallpaper that you want without needing sixteen versions of the same wallpaper with different trims. Holy guacamole, that is brilliant. Kind of like Michelle and her invisible painting frame-recolors for Maxis paintings. Clever way to give us many options, without needing to do every recolor in every option.

Find one part of the set here. That's where I started (thanks again Curls77!), it has links to the rest. I'm surprised at how few downloads it has, given how brilliant it is. Clearly more people than I have not seen this, and everyone should see them. Definitely an awesome find, albeit not my find

Duine 8th Dec 2015 7:17 PM

Is there a way to fix walls when you don't want any trim? Quite often I use a wall and wish it didn't have any. Thanks for mentioning those trims though, I didn't understand what they were for before.

venusking 8th Dec 2015 8:36 PM

I just looked through those walls - awesome!

Catherine thought of that, one part of that set is non-trim versions walls that didn't come with a non-trim version. I can't guarantee every single in is included, I haven't had time to go over it, but it would not surprise me if every single one is there. It is a very thorough set.

EDIT: I see venusking already replied. Why I didn't notice that, I have no idea. But I'll leave it any way, not much point deleting posts on MTS since they don't truly vanish.
To make it not entirely a waste, I'll link Michelles frame-sets. BG frames and NL frames.

siletka 7th Jan 2016 3:23 AM

This isn't directly sims-related, but very useful. I've been using it for years and never really thought about sharing it.

Greenshot. Its the best tool ever. What does it do? It takes screenshots. BUT WAIT. THERE'S MORE.

What makes it so awesome, you ask? Well, for starters, it's free. Secondly, you can grab a screenshot of the whole screen, just a window, or just a chunk of whatever you're looking at. You can have it automatically save to your computer in a specified folder, or automatically upload to one of several services. Or you can select where you wanna save it each time. Want to do minor editing? You can open it in Greenshot's editor and edit there, too. It lets you censor information, add arrows and gestures, all sorts of things.

I use this on a daily basis, on my Tumblr, for my downloads, you name it.

Firefox users: Don't want something so involved? You can get a similar tool for Firefox that labellavienna posted about.

joandsarah77 7th Jan 2016 3:51 AM

That sounds much better than FRAPS, thanks.

siletka 7th Jan 2016 4:06 AM

Does FRAPS do screenshots? I was under the impression that FRAPS was for video.

joandsarah77 7th Jan 2016 4:16 AM

No it's a screenshot program as well. I took all my uploaded lot photos here with FRAPS. You designate a key and it runs in one corner showing frame rates and it takes a bmp which goes to a folder on C drive. It doesn't come with any kind of screen that you can grab and alter size though it just takes the whole screen. That's FRAPS free, the paid version might have something more to it.

Bubblebeam 7th Jan 2016 4:17 AM

I'm grabbing that. Thanks Siletka. I've just been doing the old fashioned ctrl + printscreen but it's a pain in the butt going back and forth.

siletka 7th Jan 2016 4:29 AM

I didn't know fraps did that. Neat.

If you guys have questions or need help with green shot, pm me and I'll help.

Amairani 7th Jan 2016 12:34 PM

One thing you should know about Fraps is that its unregistered/free version saves pictures in bmp format only and each picture "weights" almost 6Mb because of that. After each play session I go to my Fraps folder and batch convert all screenshots to jpeg, otherwise it's easy to gain up to 1Gb of pictures in few days.

siletka 8th Jan 2016 3:35 AM

Wow. Green shot lets you auto save to ping.

Justpetro 14th Jan 2016 11:17 PM

I want to try Greenshot as well. Have to say, though, that Windows 10 takes much better screenshots than any previous version

joandsarah77 14th Jan 2016 11:23 PM

I downloaded Greenshot and last night hit print screen not knowing that greenshot had taken that over. The game was doing a cut scene for an alien abduction (silly girl wanted that as a scholarship so I said okay go out and summon them then) Then my screen went black and the game crashed. I don't know if greenshot +cut scene is not a good combo or what. Maybe if i could figure out how to change the hot key and how to make it save to a folder it might be okay since I want my print screen button back and I have no clue where it put that photo- if it took a photo of anything other than a black screen.

When I do print screen here it comes up with this circle and frame that I can move around but I have no clue what key to press to make it take a picture or how to find it's settings.

mixa97sr 14th Jan 2016 11:51 PM

When I use Greenshot on Windows 10, it always takes a screenshot of desktop, no matter what I do it minimizes the game. So fullscreen screenshots are not working with it apparently. I haven't tried windowed screenshots. It probably works.

joandsarah77 14th Jan 2016 11:56 PM

How do you change the settings?

Greenshot - works perfectly - just hit the windows button + printscreen - it saved the screenshots to my desktop - I will still have to work out how to do a cut pic. I also had one or two taking a pic of the windows screen, though. Alt+printscreen works well too - they are almost full screen.

Windows 10 - also works well, but one has to do the paste into pant- thing (the shots are nice though, those I posted last under the Whats happening in your game today -thread - and I had to make them a lot smaller too).

Make a new account maybe with a new password - would hate you to miss out
Otherwise - It really is just has them go away, like when sims go for a drive in the car.
You could probably do the same thing with something with Lucas Sims "extended go for a drive" - only difference is you miss sims going away in a bus.

I tried that it says my email is in use. I guess I could make a new email, but I don't feel like that now. Nearly puppy feeding time here anyway.

What do you mean hit the windows button?

Justpetro 15th Jan 2016 1:01 AM

The one with the windows icon on it - on my keybord it sits between Control and Alt. Edit : I noticed that it is even easier if you press the icon button in the tray - it gives one easy options. I will try to use this one, because, although I really like Gadwin, I have to go into windowed mode to use it (keeping it, though, for smaller stuff and non-Sim things).

That's what I thought you meant, on my computer I use that button to put the game down and come post here. Why would I want my desktop to show if I am trying to take a picture in game?

Justpetro 15th Jan 2016 1:14 AM

Let me check again what I did earlier then - the screenshots came out nice, though. (I just took about 3 to see if the program works, so maybe I did something else - sorry )

Justpetro 15th Jan 2016 1:27 AM

Checked (sorry for the double posting then) - I did get confused, Jo - what happens is that my game screen minimizes after taking a screenshot (which means that I had to press the windows button to maximize it again) and Greenshot asks me where I want to save the screenshot - so I tried again. Printscreen and Alt+Printscreen both seem to work on Windows 10, and Printscreen alone gives you the option to "cut" and take a screenshot of part of the screen. (I am on Windows 10, I do not know if it will be exactly the same on Windows 7 or 8).

Gadwin of course is awesome, since you can take screenshots until the cows come home and then go and check them all in your screenshots folder - but the only drawback is that you have to be in windowed mode.

I'm wondering if I should try Gadwin, I've only ever used FRAPS which I find very easy, I just press 9 and go find it later in it's folder on C drive.

If you go into preferences for Greenshot, you can use a combination of keys to take a screenshot of the current window, not the full screen. Try using that combination, what ever is listed for window not full screen capture. Try that, it might not kick you to the desktop.

You can also change it so it doesn't ask you where to put the shots, just put automatically to a folder. I'm not home (at my family's home) so I can't be too specific without being at my computer.

joandsarah77 15th Jan 2016 3:51 AM

Yes, but where is that? If I click on Greenshot over in my program list it comes up with a box telling an instance is already running. If I go to D drive I see a Grenshot folder with files and two folder, languages and plugins. Ugg techy stuff. All I know is if I press print screen I get a round movable circle. Now I take it I am supposed to move that to where I want it but I have no idea what button to push to take a photo or where it's going. Plus as I said before it crashed my game. So is that because I should have avoided it during a cut scene or it does not like Windows 7 or something else? As soon as I pushed print screen my entire screen went black. I had to get up task manager and close the game since it wouldn't come back up.

siletka 15th Jan 2016 5:49 AM

Do you have a quick tray? The small panel of icons pinned on your task bar to the very bottom-right of your desktop. It's the set of icons that sits next to your clock on your desktop.

Something like this.

The Greenshot icon should be there.

joandsarah77 15th Jan 2016 7:09 AM

Ah, I have a little arrow there with 'show hidden icons' it's under there. It says Caption region prnt scrn, I'm use to using 9 but print screen is okay if it works. Open last capture location shows it went to my desktop, a totally black picture. I'm worried about the black screen and my game freezing, was that because it was a cut scene? I'm nervous of it crashing my game since that can cause corruption. I would like it to go to a folder, but I don't see how to do that.

Loaded up my game and tried the print screen button on hood view, it immediately puts my game down like I had pressed the Windows button. .
