The concept art of the Sims 2

I have something interesting: the concept art of the Sims 2.

http://www.stevekody.com/portfolio/index.html

On what Stephen W. Kody specifically worked described in his resume:

http://www.stevekody.com/portfolio/...esume_11-11.pdf

Quote:
The Sims2 - PC
The Sims2 University Expansion - PC
The Sims2 Nightlife Expansion - PC
I worked as a lead object artist on the Sims2 and two follow on expansions. I was a key artist in the project from early pre-production and actively involved in the prototyping and development of many core game systems.
- Authored over 300 unique object models for the Sims2 and its expansions. These objects included many signature and featured items. Content creation responsibilities included concept art creation, low poly modeling, UV layout, texturing, rigging, animation setup and object animation.
- Worked directly with graphics engineers to help prototype and develop the Sims2 in-game lighting and VFX systems
- Worked closely with the technical art director and graphics programmers to develop content creation guidelines. Lead the effort to communicate those guidelines both internally and to external outsource contractors.

I like the original version of the University "juice" keg better than the giant pineapple that ended up in the released version of the game.

That's very nice indeed - though I have to say, as a musician myself, there are some things there that make me cringe a bit. Like the notes written on the xylophone (why?) which are, ahem, wrong and the marimba listed as a xylophone too. I can correct all that though for myself. It's a lovely set.

I'm not a percussionist so I wouldn't know but I played cello for 10 years and am excite sims can look like they do too! Granted, the creator admitted to not having a musical background so It's a pretty dang fine job for someone not knowing a lot about the instruments. I'll take it!

Thanks. I'd been thinking that Middleground might work quite well for the farm fields, though I've rather been enjoying playing without any subhoods. I've got some kids that are due to go off to Uni soon, so I might make it a university town. Unless I shopping district it as a sleepy little market town and send the kids to uni at Baskerville instead.

I do have a new hood planned that will have a village with farms, but I started playing Elsewhere again after getting a new Mac, just to remind myself of the practicalities of playing really tiny lots before building a city, and then I got attached to my Sims...

Oh sure, I wasn't complaining - I was just a bit 'ummmmm....' - it's a very nice set and there's a lot of work gone into that. It'd be churlish to not appreciate it. I can make edits to textures and texts to make it make sense to me.

Argh lush - I want the pavements for lush. I can see myself extracting the textures and using them for the dirt terrain. Love the idea of lit up bridges. I already have Criquettes neighbourhood lights mod.

FranH 8th May 2018 12:01 PM

I can't recommend the 'Rodeburg' neighborhood highly enough!
I downloaded it, half thinking, "So it will be glitchy, it'll crash on me, and I'll have to rebuild the whole darn thing and move out everyone, etc.." It did nothing of the sort. (except for one of the single pixels' house-I did have a bit of trouble with him, but moving him out solved that problem.)
It's a beautiful little town (especially if you have the 'skies' and 'backgrounds' installed) with a cast of very memorable characters....the lots are very well designed, and one of the lots (the biggest house) is one of the best mansions I've ever seen created by anyone. It's definitely awe-inspiring.

Examples
- your Sim can swim on its back while clicking him in the pool
- you can pay off a Sim that kicks your trashcan
- you can free the burglar after it's captured in the policecar

RoxEllen1965 22nd May 2018 1:40 PM

An old upload by Niol - a collection of unusual fences. Includes fences based on base game hedge, base game bamboo, weeds, grave stones, birch trees, postless fences, fenceless posts, etc. I like the bamboo fences. The bamboo is usually used that way in my game anyway and laying down a fence is much quicker and easier than plopping down individual plants one at a time.

Hmmm... my pets have almost always had inherited parent eye color. What bothers me is that even with this mod, twins and so on have same coat patterns and eye color. I might have to test it further.

But thanks!

simmer22 3rd Jun 2018 2:01 PM

No, they don't always have the same colors if they're siblings. These kittens (click spoiler) are quads, and while three of them looked similar, one with a slightly different undercoating, one of them turned out very different and with another pattern than the others. I think the cats I used for breeding were original presets, so they had a multi-layered coating with overlaying patterns. Not sure about eye colors, because I didn't take closeups of all the kittens, and those I do have pictures of have yellow eyes (at least one parent had blue eyes). Not sure if I had the eye mod in, though.

I also tested the mod with a puppy (got only one), and it got markings from both parents, and ended up as a dalmatinian with brown markings around the eyes. I guess it comes down to how similar or different the parents' coatings are. The more similar they are, the more similar their little ones will be.

First set looks quality. Second one could have gone with way better textures. Now I feel the urge to retexture it.

4ESF is one of well-known CC site that was gone and archived, and I think people still use 4ESF stuff(They look good!). I'm sure you can find paid/donation things from booty, and at least one furniture set(Cottage Sets..) was uploaded at Affinity Sims with fixes.

That mod is actually from Rio-Sims. The original page also has a similar mod for Grand Vampires.

That makes me feel so old, . But yeah, I still have somethings from there in my download folder from years ago. One of my favorite cc paintings, actually, and one of my favorite custom beds.

And @LFact, don't get me started on house plans! That's a rabbit hole I've gotten lost in for hours. Pinterest is really good for that actually. I don't know how many times my mom has seen me looking at houses/house plans and went "Oh, you're looking at houses? Are you finally ready to move?" and I have to hang my head and go "No... It's for my sims."

Anyway, I found a mod of Ancient Highway's while looking up a question from the Stupid Random Questions thread: ah_AutonomousMirrorAL lets sims "autonomously use the mirror so they practice charisma all by themselves depending on their level of extroversion." Mod found on this page: http://www.simbology.com/smf/index....59838#msg159838 and description provided on this page: http://modthesims.info/showthread.p...454#post5017454

Upload of the year perhaps?

I never realized how much CC Garden of Shadows offered. A lot of cool stuff there.
http://gardenofshadows.org.uk/garde...75&action=forum

Looking through the mass amount of Stuff, Psychosim made these Urban roof pieces http://gardenofshadows.org.uk/garde...5&topic=28660.0
Then I followed the link to his website and found really nice Cinema https://psychosim.livejournal.com/tag/1x1%20lots

EDIT: I also found wall height fencing. They don't mention recolors, but this solves the problem of connecting buildings or attached garages. It's on reply #3. Anyone up to do recolors?

Now I found new Neighborhood dock pieces like Criquettes.

This may be the single most welcome post I've ever seen. It never occurred to me to use the fencing this way... I honestly... I'm shocked, I'm literally... shocked. Bless you!!

The problem with fences is that they don't do recolours. You'd have to make each fence as a standalone item. Not that it's a problem but you'd end up with a very crowded fence category in your catalogue if you wanted a lot of walls. And, of course, you can't paint them so it would mean rebuilding if you changed the wall covering. Being able to paint fences would be awesome but you can't. It would be relatively easy to do new colours though since you wouldn't be changing the mesh - just a case of slapping on a new texture. The other thing with fences is I think you can reuse existing GUIDs - IIRC. I made a pile of colours for the cover up slope fence mesh to hide holes in the terrain at one time. Quick to do once you get the rhythm.

suzymarie64 11th Jun 2018 9:13 PM

@maxon I do see the problem with that. But maybe some maxis match or some with maxis siding walls match would be nice.
