I see your point, and in general I agree. I wouldn't do it on just any creator, but to me, Michelle is an exception. She's the nicest creator I know, and I know that her creations are used by lots and lots of people. Recolors get the worst thanks/download ratios, from my experience, so she does not get nearly enough thanks for all her hard work. I appreciate that she makes everything match, so even if I don't use one specific creation I am still glad it exists. And that's my approach to thanks in general. If someone makes something I think is really good, or a great idea, but not something I want for my game, I still thank them for it. It might not have been for me, but it made someone excited, and that deserves some attention |
Fun With Dick and Jane Jane made a new mesh & outfit with one thumb missing and added one recolor. Dick saw this mesh, made more recolors, altered the mesh by replacing the thumb and added a second thumb to that hand. Sally like the mesh that Jane made, but didn't think the extra thumb, added by Dick, was needed, removed it and added some more recolors. Spot like the outfit which Sally fixed, but not the shoes, so he chewed them a bit to his liking and updated the recolors the rest of them made. Puff liked Jane's outfit, that Dick altered the mesh with an extra thumb, that Sally fixed the mesh, so much, except for the chewed shoes and replaced them with kitty slippers. Puff did not think it needed any more recolors. Father and Mother admired their families work and felt very proud of their accomplishments. Baby just sat on the floor, chewing her hand and picking her nose, oblivious to all that went on around her because the outfit was not in her size. The End |
Yeah, there have been a lot of times that I've been scrolling through downloads sections for TS4, for example, that I look at and go, "Wow! That's a great idea! I might own TS4 but I don't play it, so I am not going to download it, but I'll thank them for the post."
In my opinion, that's the best reason for the "thanks" feature. I feel like people treat/view the "thanks" count like they should view the downloads count. I feel like 90% of the time, if someone downloads something that means they liked it! I do thank all of the posts I download, but that's just because I also appreciate the work that someone puts into something. |

Oh, I could kiss you for this. I've had to overlook quite a few downloads because they were app box download exclusive. Just to clarify about the feet, I've got a large set of child pajamas with sexy feet, with only the clothing mesh attached in the download, but I still can see the feet. |

Yep, forgot about this "wonderful" so called real life feature - Of course a woman who is a twin, who decided have an affair with a guy who is also a twin, when under the influence of ACR, shouldn't be surprised to end up giving birth to twin boys on Christmas day. Yep, wish I'd remembered that, would have helped her party go just a bit more smoother. At least she'd have avoided giving birth on the stairs. |
My random thought: when I'm bored with this game I start playing TS3 or TS4 only to get bored again and come back to TS2. It's like cheating on my spouse and realizing he/she is better than my lovers :-D
The Sims (2) are the most controllable from them all. You can play the neighborhood BACC style and the Sims' personalities, even though they have no traits, are very complex. It's about your imagination. You can make their personalities evolve depending on their life...I love tis game way too much... |
If I understand the way Sims 3 traits work, I'd say it's a given that it's because they have personality points instead of traits. The ten-point personality system, with different animations for the extreme ends of the scale, in conjunction with the randomization of behavior and the training mechanism (the more often a sim does something, the more likely he is to do it again; the more often a want is filled, the more likely it is to roll again), allows for a great deal of nuance, individuation, and room for player interpretation. A trait is an either-or thing, very cut-and-dried, with no scope for the imagination and no subtlety. Also, not remotely the way real people work.
|
The Sims 3 - traits are probably why I found them infinitely boring. (Sorry. I really did). The Sims 4 Sims are a lot more likable in my opinion, despite the other negative aspects of that game. Yet the Sims 2 Sims - I truly believe we are all still playing them because they are very individual, especially after playing them for a while - they seem to grow with the game.

My test hood plantsim is a knowledge sim. Normally my knowledge sims will roll wants pertaining to another sim as well as the usual knowledge stuff. Meeting, dating, etc. wants usually fit into other aspirations too. Now my plantsim doesn't roll any wants in reference to other sims, it's mainly skills, plant and hobby related wants. This is a bit refreshing as it doesn't involve balancing a personal relationship along with all the other things. When I last left her, she was on vacation and rolling all the want pertaining to that area. Other sims, even if vacationing alone, mix the relationship and vacation wants making it a bit harder to fill wants for the area they're visiting. Since the hood only has 3-4 households testing different things, the friend want wasn't filled at the start, which may explain why she doesn't care for contact with another sim just yet. I've even had romance sims who were 'molded' into acting more like a knowledge. I see the sims as more than a game to have them live a normal life with a dog or cat, 2.5 kids and an oversized house stuffed with things they don't even care about. No matter how they live, there are still those quirky little things we all love about them.

Currently I'm feeling a bit burnt out with Sims 2. I'm eagerly awaiting a strike of inspiration to get me playing again.
|
I got a little worried playing today. My sims did not have the propose option even though they were in love and had a high relationship. I've had this neighborhood since before I knew about the VBTs, so I'm sure its corrupted. I thought that maybe the corruption was finally starting to show itself. I went out of game and let Mootilda's hoodchecker work its magic. Went back into game and voila they could propose! Not today corruption, not today.

It's time for another episode of gummilutt does stupid things and freaks out herself. I've been working on a project for a while now, and it's looking like it may be finished. Once I've finished testing that something works in my test game, I move on to put it in my main game to test it further there. I go to place the object on the lot, and it's as if it's reverted back ten steps. After a brief period of mild panic trying to understand how it could possibly act so different in my main game, a vague memory of testing an earlier version floats up in my mind. I go check and indeed there were two versions of the object, the earlier one loading last and overwriting the later versions. Note to self, always delete creations after testing them if they are not finished yet.

Important Sim safety tip! When you decide to go old-school, and get rid of an annoying Sim using the time-honoured 'pool ladder removal' method, for the love of Crumplebottom, remember to PUT THE LADDERS BACK AFTERWARDS.
Otherwise you end up with my situation, whereby after grieving the drowned Sim, the entire family decided that the best way to cope with their grief was to immediately jump into the pool, and unfortunately I did not notice (was busy dealing with the eldest son's blind date) until Grim showed up again. I managed to save some of them, but RIP Grandpa and Uncle Brad. |
I couldn't do that, if a sim has to die it has to be very quick, like by satellite.
|
^ Thought I was the only one who's silly like that, caring how their pixels die. I feel guilty doing the pool method.

Andrew wouldn't even kill and burglar.

Has anyone ever experienced their graphics suddenly going bonkers, where the only fix is to reboot the game? I should have taken a pic, but then again, it constantly changes. The best way to describe it is like long stretched triangles.

@Snufflepaws Is your graphics card getting hot?

Check the hardware, Snufflepaws
Killing Sims - not one of my favourite things to do. That is why my overpopulated hood is backed up Of course, the death of a Sim (or Sims) can influence a story, a hood, a family in a variety of ways, which means that I often contemplate killing one (or two, or ten). It is just that.... I can't. I get far too attached to pixels myself. |
Having watched a whole lot of death by satellite in order to test my satellite-death related mods, I would rather drown Sims in the pool. It may be slower, but also a whole lot less violent. But maybe that's the pacifist in me speaking
|
Many generations ago I once killed off a sim and her husband because they absolutely bored me to death (as I usually do with households without children) Every time I visit the local cemetery to 'bury' a sim I see their gravestones and feel just a tad bit guilty. They're hard to miss because the wife was a Landgraab so they're in the big family plot just looking at me. So now I grudgingly play my childless sims until their very deaths.
I've never had a sim die on accident though which kind of makes me sad. I think it'd be really interesting for story purpose. Though there was one time where I had a weird glitch on an apartment lot where fires would spontaneously start and my sims would catch fire. I eventually just went with it and let the fire kill the mother and it definitely made for some interesting times. |

I did last week. I had two flickering lots. I got black screens, scratch to desktop. I tried every tip I've found to solve these issues (update drivers, update the videos.sgr file, clean my graphic card). Nothing works except moving the families out and bulldoze their lots. I think I had one sim dead by drowning once back in the days and I disliked the ghost leaving puddles behind. I don't kill off sims unless it is ROS induced (poison, satellite, disease or fire). I'd like to improve my hood by adding the needed businesses but I just feel overwhelmed. |
Seeing as I have a bigger households mod, I think when I next get chance to play sims I'm going into my 'funzies' neighbourhood (the neighbourhood I made for just my goof families that have no storyline) and just adopting a new baby every single day until the couple die of old age.
