Thank you, it was very useful!
Didn't I know you could only use one color? |
They pick the color according to some of their properties. Like all even numbered sims are one, and odd numbered the other. I asked how it was chosen some time ago, but I didn't get or missed the answer.
I was lucky that the waiter at my Crypt O' nightclub in Downtown randomly got the black variant, and the One-Twenty-Five Cafe got the golden. Maybe you can make another waiter and get lucky. I think there are more of these variant clothes. Like the military outfit, which can be green or sand color. |
I have twin teen boys in the teen military career and one got green and the other got sand. Kind of annoying but the odd/even thing would make sense.

Pretty sure it has that as a function, yeah. It asks you where you want them all to go.
This reminds me to ask: How would I go about troubleshooting Hoodchecker? It won't run for any of my neighborhoods any more. When it first happened I assumed that neighborhood was borked in some way, but it seems unlikely that every single neighborhood I have is borked in a way Hoodchecker can't handle. |
Has anyone ever had issues with lingering roaches in the Beaker household? (or anywhere else?)
There was a small colony (for no reason - no trash or anything) in the kitchen when I entered the lot first time. Both Nervous and Loki tried several times to stomp/spray them, but nothing worked, the roahes just kept jumping to a different spot, and there were bugs seemingly coming from "nowhere" as if the surrounding animation had taken over the entire first floor. Ended up calling an exterminator, and he got rid of the base colony. However, now there are animated roaches running across the entire floor, one by one, in all directions (but no base colony). I've looked behind every piece of furniture, even switched out possible offenders just to be sure there's no trash or stink anywhere (trash can/trash compactor/fridge/etc.), but they're still there. They're also kind of hovering in the air. EDIT: It was probably just a small bug (duh!), but a quite annoying one. It seemed to fix itself with a lot reload. (I've had some minor bugs with the Strangetown families, but they're the usual, like "hovering baby hold" and "why are you complaining about a non-existing slope?" and the Curious brothers not knowing what indoor-doors are - they kept running in and out of the 4-5 outer doors instead of using the doors inside, which got so annoying I reworked the lot and removed a few of the diagonal doors and double-door offenders, because there's absolutely no reason why they need to run outside to go between two rooms, and why are there 3 doors to the bathroom? Maxis/EA logic ) |
That reminds me that I downloaded buyable cockroaches and I was wondering whether to include them in my hood, since I'm afraid that it produces that error and stays forever. xDD
Isn't there some way to fix those things? Maybe with the batbox? Or restarting the lot? The truth is that I haven't played in so long that I can't remember, but maybe someone does know. |

Hoodchecker only retrieves graves that got lost while moving them between lots. The usual way to respawn graves is to summon the ghost, select it, and then use the option on the batbox. |

I always encourage my Sims to call an exterminator rather than trying to deal with the infestation themselves. The do-it-yourself approach can lead to them catching 'flu. |

Huh. Never knew that scripted event issue. I rarely play the Beakers (first time in forever), but good to know if there's a next time (definitely exterminator time before anyone touches the little creepy crawlies!). Both boys caught some sickness, but they got over it pretty quick. It's been ages and then some since I played with (most of) the playables in the OG hoods. I'll occasionally throw some CC-testing at them if I can't bother to make a test family, but that's about it (I've likely forgotten most of the scripted events, too - except the ones that are constantly talked about, like Cassandra's wedding drama, or the Pleasants, or the alien abductions around the Curious brothers, which happens to be my favorite for some, uh, strange reason ) Under normal circumstances, sims usually manage the roaches, though. These ones must have been an extreme variety. |

I had a 'flu outbreak quite early in my game, and it's left me very cautious about cockroaches. It was Andrew's fault -- he kicked over the dustbin at the Moltkes' house in the Via Veronaville, and it led to most of the family getting 'flu.
Oh dear! I shouldn't have said that -- Andrew will not be pleased! ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Veronaville 24th January 2025 Hi Everyone! It's not fair of AG to blame me. How was I to know that kicking over the Moltkes' dustbin would cause them all to get 'flu. I was bored, and it just seemed a fun thing to do. It was a Friday night and my first visit to Julian's house after we fell in love. He'd just proposed that we went steady. Of course I agreed. Then he started kissing me, and that was good. But then he stopped kissing me and went into the house to start cooking a meal. Really there was no need for him to do that. I mean surely he could have got his mum or his dad to cook the meal for us! I'm sure my mum would have done that for me if it had been at our house. Well I got bored on my own so I kicked over their stupid bin for something to do. How was I to know it would have consequences? Well the meal was OK, and afterwards Julian turned on the stereo, and we had a long slow dance with not many clothes on. (Julian never wears many clothes.) That was really great, and we danced all night until we were tired and needed the toilet. But as it grew light in the morning, we realised that Julian's mum, dad and little sister were all wandering around listlessly in the garden. They were obviously ill. So instead of having a fun time with me, Julian had to say Goodbye to me, get his family to bed, and look after them. And eventually he got 'flu himself. By the time everyone was better, it was Monday morning and we had to go back to school. So it really spoiled our weekend. So I reckon I paid for my mistake! Yours (rather peeved) Andrew Jones-Moltke |

I think that you'd need to have the buyable cockroaches included as CC for them not to bug (yeah, yeah XD) out. If you don't want CC then playing the lot with the trashcan kicked over should also give you a selection of the little buggers.

The Beakers must have been experimenting on them!

Well I can't imagine you acting like such a brat nowadays, so you must have learned a lesson. Am I imagining that Julian also had a kid brother? |
Why do people always think that a 2×3 bathroom is the best "environment" even with basic appliances? The Headmaster loves them.
Is it normal in America for there being several bathrooms in the home? Often in the sims every bedroom has its own private toilet. |
Because 2x3 is the best compromise between avoiding routing failure (i.e. the famous bathroom traffic jams) and taking up absurd amounts of space. Room for a showertub at one end and a commode and sink next to each other at the other with room to turn around in between.
It is very common for houses with more than two bedrooms to have more than two bathrooms, yes. It reduces conflicts over use of the space, and improves privacy. It's also not unknown for a smaller house to have one full bath and one half-bath or powder room, with the powder room intended to be the primary space for visitors, which is where you put out the fancy soaps shaped like shells and/or the novelty handtowels and the joke toilet covers. Powder rooms are often also used in finished basements, garages, and similar spaces separate from the main living area, done up for recreation or specific tasks, so you don't have to go all the way back to the house in the middle of making things in the workshop or entertaining guests in the rec room. A multi-story house really should have toilet facilities, at least, on each story. I myself have a two-story house with a half-bath on the lower floor and two full baths on the upper floor. It's a four-bedroom house so this isn't excessive at all. If your whole family gets a stomach bug at the same time you want options! One full private bath per bedroom plus one or more guest bathrooms is conspicuous consumption and fair game to be made fun of, though. If you look at sites like McMansion Hell you'll see that real people get really weird with their bathrooms when they have too much money. But that's just human nature. |
Half-bath? As in just the toilet or a smaller sized bath?
|
Commode and sink, yes. In speech they're usually called powder rooms (for the euphemism "going to powder my nose" that women used to give when they needed to excuse themselves to use the facilities), and in real estate they're called half-baths. When reading a real estate listing, the notation "2 bed/1.5 bath" tells you the house has two bedrooms, one full bath, and one powder room.
|
I've never heard powder room used outside of historical fiction. XD
We just call the toilet, the toilet. |

I completely forgot that roaches spread the flu! No wonder my sim who is enemies with everyone is constantly sick, people come knock his garbage cans over day and night. |

I keep wondering, too. Where I live it's rare with private bathroom situations linked to bedrooms in a regular house. It's more common to have one or two (maybe three, but that's pushing it) bathrooms, usually one on each floor, or one main bathroom and one smaller toilet+sink (sometimes "guest") bathroom/toilet. They're usually accessible for everyone in the house. I usually stick to the "free for all" bathrooms in sims, because they usually go wherever they want anyway |
Nobody has been sick in my game for as long as I remember. I don't have mods specifically targeting sickness.
Time to roll the garbage can behind the fence. If I wanted to do damage to someone, and it was an earlier time than today when cameras are widely available, I'd damage their car that is sitting there close to the road, or write an obscene word on it. You can probably delete modded roaches with COE. Idk what they encompass, if they come with any service objects. What would be cool if we had a garbage truck in the game. Then you'd have to push the trash bin out when you wanted it emptied. There should be more trash generated from other activities like cooking, so you have trash even if you don't eat snacks. |
I'd take this up in forum issues, but what the hell is going on with the spammers floating in here?
Is our spamming filter broken? I've flagged 5 in two days. This is NOT acceptable. (I used to do flagging on another site. This is really bad.) |

@Charity Some mods are just unlocks and are connected to the real object in the game, so when you remove them from the game they are still there, for example the purchasable pizza mod, which continues to leave the pizza even if you delete the mod from the game, I still haven't tested if the buyable cockroaches are one of those. Basically I would like them to stay but be eliminated once the sim exterminates them, but as you say, I can also place garbage on the floor and wait for the house to infect xDD.
