I've just spent two hours on two units. Four to go and the landscaping. Next contest I enter will be with cc allowed. Why Maxis created so many things without matching them to anything else is bizarre.

Buyable reagents--are they in the buyable craftables/career rewards category? I wanted to decorate an apartment for witches, but I'm realizing I don't have a lot of options to make things "witchy," especially since I still can't find a buyable cauldron and pedestal.

Round 3: The Housemate Hacienda, located at 5 N. Calle de Residencia, Nova Colonia.
Except that a number of these pictures were taken in a copy in Port Cochere Take 6, a test neighborhood. I still haven't fixed the weirdness in my AGS, though I do know what to try next, and I had to take pictures when and where I could. Alas, these are all sterile, simless pics, since none of my playtest pics made it to the final cut. Esta la vida, baby.
A six-unit, three-story complex designed for young urban professionals, 5 N. Calle de Residencia is affordable as long as there's two of you making a decent income. The patio, with its lush landscaping and water features, is a great place to get to know your neighbors. Though the upstairs common areas are primarily intended as transitional space, the ground floor is simultaneously roomy and denlike, for those rainy afternoons when you don't dare sit in the hot tub, but don't want to be alone in your apartment. Your apartment, however, will be spacious, comfortable, and personalized, with plenty of room for parties. Unlike most apartments, the fixtures vary from unit to unit, so you and your housemate will never be confused about whose apartment you're waking up in after a wild night.
Required Shots (Back, Front, Lot Plan, Floor Plans x 3)
Like many Nova Colonia buildings, the exterior is painted in layers, in this case soothing pastels complementing the subtropical Nova Colonia climate.
Check out the patio! Just the place to hang with all the other Bright Young Things, getting together with Mr. or Ms. Right Now.
The view from the air. The awnings have an odd tendency to appear floating in the air on the lower floors. Don't be too confused by this, if you can help it.
Units 1A (left) and 1B (right), with indoor common area. The door to the common patio is hidden under that big awning in the center.
Units 2A and 2B, with stair hall.
Units 3A and 3B, with stair hall.
8 Pictures of Structure
Exterior Common Area
The side of the structure turned to the inner part of the block was in danger of looking too austere; hence the cheery "gargoyles" giving it that true insouciant Nova Colonia touch (the management devoutly hopes).
No lifeguard on duty, but your neighbors will be happy to throw you a life preserver if you need one. Probably.
More Nova Colonia-style "gargoyles." The awnings and high windows on the ground floor, reinforced by the landscaping, make it unlikely that you'll see more of 1A and 1B than they want you to while relaxing by the pool.
The fireplace is a cheery spot when the wind off the ocean blows chill, or to make s'mores when it doesn't.
Interior Common Area
The dim interior is restful on summer afternoons when the sun is glaring off the water features outside. Once your eyes clear of the dazzle, there's art, comfortable seating, and the potential for a friendly game of darts to help you get over the headache.
Plashing fountains, a bubbling aquarium, and a cozy fire!
More art, and big windows with curtains so you can be as dark and private, or as bright and public, as you and your fellow-tenants like.
Books from behind which you can study your neighbors' shenanigans undetected, and that staple of life in the city - the fully-stocked courtesy bar.
Pictures of Units
Without the focus of four playtest families when I took the unit shots, I took lots of pictures of all six lots, whittled them down to the six best of each, and then whittled that down to the 24 pictures I thought best represented the complex. I trust this isn't too confusing.
Unit 1A
Kitchen
Living Room
Living Room, Kitchen, Hall used as study, from which bathroom and both bedrooms open.
Unit 1B
Bedroom of artistic roommate
Detail of Living Room, with parrot cage
Kitchen
Unit 2A
Bedroom of one of the two athletes sharing quarters in this unit
Living Room, with view of entryway. Guests come over to watch The Game are expected to snag a drink at the bar on their way in.
Bedroom of the other athlete in this unit
Kitchen and dining area. Yes, they have two TVs. What if there's two Games on at once? It wouldn't do to miss one. Besides, the resident of the blue bedroom adamantly insists that the resident of the red bedroom (with the SPOTLIGHT, Harry, who puts a SPOTLIGHT in their bedroom?) and his numerous guests not eat on the couch. He has no desire to discover a petrified slice of pizza there six months from now. I really wish some playtest pics had made the cut...
Unit 2B
Kitchen, including the dog's eating space
Patio. One of these roommates is very outdoorsy and can't wait to afford her own place with a yard, but for now this and her job at a florist's'll have to do.
Living Area
More Living Area. I kept messing up the shots that included the bear statue and the florist's bench and finally gave up.
Unit 3A
Rear of Living Area, showing bedroom and bathroom doors. The fashionista who lives here hopes to someday afford a place with a big enough bedroom for her vanity table, but with it out here she can give makeovers to her housemate's artsy-fartsy friends during parties. Most of them need it so badly.
Kitchen.
The artist has to do most of her work on the patio because the fashionista complains about the smell of paint.
They have one of my favorite living areas, though.
So much so, I had to give you two angles of it.
Unit 3B
One of the housemates in 3B is a naval doctor and a world traveller.
Kitchen. The other is a gaming nerd. With a cat.
My favorite bedroom in the building.
Except for the cat, she just brought everything from her dorm room to her first adult residence.
Fortunately, the naval doctor is a bit of a nerd, too.
And there we are! Hope y'all like it.

Double and triple sigh! The weather has been a nightmare this past week. Been so hot it was unbearable in my PC room, even with double fans it made me feel sick to be in here. And when it finally started getting a tad more bearable temperature-wise thunderstorms came and caused trouble instead. Haven't been able to get to my pc in two days, first because of unstable electricity making it risky to use pc, and then internet wouldn't work. I am so over this summer. I'm really sorry everyone. I know it might not seem like it but I am trying my best.
Internet still very unstable but electricity is stable enough at least, so will do my best to finish today. I have a couple of more lots to go over for host bonus but if electricity remains stable I should be able to finish today. All judges scores are in so will go over it once host bonus is done. If all goes well might be able to get scores up before going to bed, but it depends on if I need to talk to any of the judges about something, and if they are available now or not. Will do my best to get them up asap

We do believe you, Gummi! We've all been there. If your internet won't work and you're heatsick, it doesn't matter what you want to do online, you can't do it. All you can do is the best you can do, and that has to be enough.
As for Harry the Spotlight - I'm afraid you'll just have to imagine his shenanigans, Kuuk. I'm sure you can come up with good ones.

Lol, maybe make the "Call me Ellu" bit in your signature a bit more bold? Honestly my eyes tend to glance over signatures and I was wondering at first just who this "Ellu" person everyone was talking about was. It took me a while to catch on..

Judge 1: Well, you made your eclectic decorating style work for you! As much as all this chaos bugs me, I gotta say - you hit the inner-city-tenement-style-building nail on the head. It’s not a slum though… It’s clear that these are human beings sims living here, doing the best they can with what they got. I really like the community areas - I’m not surprised at all that the one sister frequents the hoop on the roof. The fresh[er] air would be a relief! Thank you
Judge 2: I totally get the concrete jungle feel of the lot, I just would have loved to see a few of those Cat O’ Nine tails, water umbrellas or algae scattered about to give it the feel of neglect (weeds) while still adding a touch of green. It would have been nice to not use the carpet from the common area in any of the apartments for variation. I do love that you gave us common areas — woohoo! I really like the variation between levels and that each level has one, well done. I enjoy the variation of apartment ”renovations” — some are very well coordinated and others you can feel how hodgepodge they are for realism. A tighter, closer overhead shot of each side would have been lovely to have. Space is well proportioned for such linear apartments! I do see a lack of apartment chutes for garbage in the hallways — not having those would mean some awfully long trips down to the sidewalk garbage can! The dual staircases and elevators are definitely a plus as I am not a fan of just elevators as a choice. I really enjoy your build as one for Sims down on their luck a bit!
Judge 3: I love everything inside the building, very well done for catching the theme of the round.
I do not like outside wall coverings, maybe some oldish brick would of been better. Also the posters in front of the house, first rain would make them look very bad. There is lots of free room in the 1st floor lobby for those.

Judge 1: Very nice! Thank you for taking such clear pictures and ordering/titling them so well in your presentation - THAT makes judging easier This is a very nice renovated home-into-apartments. I don’t see the need for the communal kitchen - as each apartment has a basic kitchen set up; but, I suppose it’s nice for larger gatherings… I love the back yard. I would spend hours sitting out there enjoying the peace. Thank you
Judge 2: Lovely community spaces both inside and out, thank you! Is there a sprinkler or fire alarm outside at all for the grill? A sink area or garbage bin would have been a welcome addition to the backyard area as well for clean-up, not to mention a small table for serving the meal. Part of me is wishing a different fence would have been used to break up all the same kind of stone wall used. Thank you for both staircase and elevator options - I’m not a fan of only elevator access. Your units strike a good balance of being cozy yet functional for one or two Sims. In some units I would have loved to see a bit more half-wall use. I cannot complain about the pink, haha, you did very well with it. I do enjoy the nice, wide hallways and the computer/reading room was a very nice touch.
Judge 3: Great choice to have all units so cheap, that was the idea of the round. Looks lovely outside, but inside could of used some more deco, maybe some shelves or pots and pans in the kitchen.
Host bonus: Please be mindful of cutting off parts of your lot in your images. Your back view has corners on both sides cut off.

Judge 1: What a sunny place to live! A great find for sims who are low on simoleons and high in ”class” I’m not a huge fan of the green apartment being upside down… I’d rather see the living areas on the bottom level and the bedrooms on the top - but, I suppose with the porch area - that should be with the living areas, so hence it’s on top. Still, personally, not a fan of that style. Everything looks to be placed well, there shouldn’t be any routing issues. I love the gazebo area and all the flowers - and the architectural thought that went into creating the ”look” of this build. Thank you
Judge 2: While I am not in love with that yellow brick, I do love the modern style of your apartment and that gazebo - LOVELY with classy charm. It’s stylish, cozy and affordable. You can decorate and coordinate your tushie off! I love the idea of the laundry room and the office, although I can envision a traffic jam or two in that room from time to time. The whole thing screams colorful and bright. The landscaping and community spaces are definitely a plus — and yay! No elevators. Thank you for including a phone on each level of the green apartment. Your floorplans are easy to understand and navigate and thank you for lighting the whole lot well.
Judge 3: I adore the lot! I want to live there myself! Looks like luxury but it still is cheap.
One question tho, why is there a hole in the top roof? Is it for the sun to shine to the balcony?
Also loved that you used different wallpaper combinations inside rooms, makes them look more ”decorated”.
Host bonus: Full lot floorplan at ground level is missing.

Judge 1: Nice boarding house I love older Victorian-esque farmhouses. It’s too bad all the little porches are inaccessible - but I LOVE the 2 attic spaces! My ”tushie” would be very cushy up there reading all day. I’m curious in this build, with the apartment doors on the floor above the stairway stage/landing - do the stairs break the apartments? The firepit outside looks inviting too. Thank you
Judge 2: I love the curb appeal for this cute apartment home, but I’m not seeing a burglar alarm anywhere to protect it? I’m also not seeing any trash cans (other than the one at the curb), chutes or compactors on the lot at all, am I missing them? I always love to see a bathroom on each floor with a layout like this, but I’m only seeing one phone — sideways on a wall above a counter, can they access that? Thank you for the community spaces both inside and out, they really compliment the relaxed feeling of the building. I think darts in the parlor and another access point to the kitchen would have been nice additions. Really, a very classy, sophisticated build for such small rent prices - well done! Overall, a gorgeous build with the elegant style you brought to this apartment.
Judge 3: Great idea to convert larger house to apartments. And much more landscaping there now too.
I see only 1 phone, in the common area kitchen. Do all the units have phones too?
And I feel a little strange about having only one communal bathtub for the whole apartment.
I will not dock points about problems with communal kitchens and how sims can, or cannot handle those. As those are allowed per rules and it is not our fault that sims are coded the way they are.
Host bonus: Full lot floorplan at ground level is missing. From the pictures provided it looks like the units on the right side are not noise-proof. Wall is totally bare on the lower unit, and there's a square between door and bed on the upper unit which appears to be empty.

Judge 1: I like the multi-level-ness of this lot. Adding terrain painted rocks/dirt to the slope would’ve helped ”finish” it a bit more. I grew-up on a hillside overlooking the city of Seattle - the apartment my parents lived when I was born is very similar to this one! I don’t think the common through-hallway in the second building is necessary. I’d have used that space in the larger apartment - but maybe that would put you over budget? Thank you for using different primary floorings in each unit - that really helps to distinguish one unit from another. Thank you
Judge 2: I’m missing seeing a burglar alarm on any units, if there was a reason you didn’t want to include them, I’d like to see it noted, otherwise I do tend to expect seeing them in some area. I understand you putting trash chutes outside each apartment, but is there a reason a bin cannot be inside as well? It’s quite unusual to walk every piece of trash outside the door instead of having a bin inside and dumping it once daily. Awww, no community space — that’s a bummer. That said, your flower fences are so pretty! Yay for bathrooms on each level and your bedroom and living spaces having nice room sizes! I like little things like the shelf under the Counterfeet counter and furniture under the stairs. Lighting along the walkways would be nice to have at night.
Judge 3: Very lovely apartment. I love the way you used those fences as pathways.
Inside walls look so empty, maybe some shelves or more paintings?
Some bedrooms are large, for this cheapy living-round you would had saved some money with making rooms smaller, now it looks like you could easily fit a family of 4 to some units for a long term living (nothing wrong with that, just only thought of it for the theme of the round).

Judge 1: Wow! What a lot to see and do! Lots of nooks and crannies to get lost in. I’m not sure how much reading/studying will happen right next to the band practice area - LOL! - But, I love it all Be careful about putting ceiling lights where there is no ceiling! Units 1C/1D are 2-story open spaces… with ceiling lights on the first floor. Oops! Your room layouts make sense and I’m not seeing any routing issues. Great job! Thank you
Judge 2: I LOVE that archway and the overall curb appeal of your apartments. Very urban! I love that I get each personality you decorated for. I can see all your burglar alarms except unit 4C, is it behind the bookcase? LOVE, LOVE the community spaces scattered around the apartment block, you really took care to include something for almost every type of resident. I am a bit disappointed by not having a small bathroom in the community building despite having both coffee and an exercise room present (perhaps some of the unused space to the right of Unit 4A?). The ”secret room” and the balcony on Unit 4C are both well put together, and I really like those spots. A nice job on the faux parking spaces as well. It did take me a minute to get a grasp of your floorplans with so many units, but I figured it out in the end.
Judge 3: I love love LOVE the grungy look! Goes well with this round. Good idea to include the parking area also.
My only worry is, with 11 units, there are some areas (for example the artistic nook) , with not so much free space and it might get a bit too crowded.

Judge 1: I love repurposed buildings - and this old ”rag” office fit’s the bill perfectly! I love the cornice fence around the top. And, even though there is a bit of orange inside, your decorating skillz are superb! Except… I’m not a huge fan of the poured cement ’belt’ on the exterior walls *sigh* You just can’t please everyone. Thank you for explaining about ”The Great Divide”, I was worried about it - until I got to the end of your post. Thank you
Judge 2: ”Resident plant buddy” — made me laugh each time! Nice of you to include some greenery inside each apartment though. I appreciate the lot being well lit inside and out, and for the (albeit limited) community space — I cannot complain much. I really like your urban and stylish apartment units, they are easy to navigate and items are well spaced. I appreciate you explaining how the kitchen is a technical common area and how that works, but it does affect playability when you have to remember to buy a mini fridge and whatnot — that said, I do appreciate the explanation. I really cannot stress how much I love your lobby and your simple, realistic floorplans.
Judge 3: I simply love the apartment! I like very much how you used the sofa tables combined with the cheapest TV.
I will not dock points about problems with communal kitchens and how sims can, or cannot handle those. As those are allowed per rules and it is not our fault that sims are coded the way they are.

Judge 1: Nice job on the swimmable lake - they can be a real PITA to make! I love your idea of the little cabins around a lake. What a unique concept for this contest I like the multi-levelness to your lot too. Aren’t those kitchen cabinets CC? And, I think you put the wine cabinet in front of a window? Oopsie… I like the ’faux’ window over the bed, though, that’s a great idea! Thank you
Judge 2: Whatever initial curb appeal I thought may be lacking, Stiching, was definitely made up by that swimmable lake (haha, love the spin on it being murky) and your interior decor. The whole rustic and rural vibe was lost on me, but I actually forgot they were cabins while looking at the interior pics — I got more than I expected! I may not be a huge fan of the different building shapes, but I am a fan of your community spaces! The swimmable lake, BBQ area and clubhouse are all lovely, and I see you snuck in a barre as well as a basketball hoop. (Kudos on the clubhouse bathroom so Sims don’t have to go home to pee.) I enjoy your cozy, easy to navigate cabins very much.
Judge 3: Very nicely done and I adore the swimmable lake!!
Biggest unit looks to me more suitable for a family at long term living than just a cheap place for temporaly living.
Some croundcovering under the trees would of been great.
Not sure does the octagonal clubhouse fits in with rest of the building, the roof does not look so great in that.
Host bonus: Over all good job on screenshots, but try to be mindful of the angle when taking front view pictures. Think of it as almost a street-view shot, to show what your build would look like if one was standing on the street looking up at it.

Judge 1: Nothin’ fancy here, but very well planned - this is a great option for low-rent housing. I love the courtyard! I bet everyone who lives here is happy A birdcage in the bedroom would definitely keep me awake though - ack! Nicely done - Thank you
Judge 2: You may feel your apartment "simple" compared to the others, but I am enjoying them! Simple floorplans and that wonderfully green community space amid all the brick - love it. The community space is also smack dab in the middle of the apartments, so no extra bathroom needed! I like the little roof covering you gave the mailbox and lot trashcan - cute! Your floorplan is exceptionally well planned for the residents and the lot as a whole is a nice representation of your inspirational photo. VERY clever use of shelving throughout the units as well as using all the space to the fullest! Kudos on a job well done!
Judge 3: I like this lot very much, great landscaping and decoration, looks like a very homey place. All the details in deco are lovely.
Compairing all the entries I did had a little too simple and boxy feeling. Maybe if parts of the roof would be flat with edging.

Judge 1: This would be a perfect ”Assisted Living” facility! Really, it would - don’t hate me for sayin’ so The rooms are small, but would be a comfortable size for an elderly sim. All the ’antique’ style wallpapers add to the charm - and my Granny’d be ruling over the poker table in the front common room! My only complaint is that the sinks are not inside the common room bathrooms - ewww, I’m not touching that door handle! Nicely done - Thank you
Judge 2: I love the look of your apartment building! For a building so linear, you made good use of the space for apartments and community space, even if I feel some of the apartments could have benefited from a tad more square footage. The community spaces to me are the stars of this build with you taking great care with them in terms of variety. The BBQ area and garden plots among all the green outside are great Earthy touches among all the brick; the gym - love what you did with it. The community spaces give the building a more posh vibe than the apartments do. I know the garbage chutes are mostly right outside the door or down the hall, but walking each TV dinner tray out would get old fast, and that makes my eye twitch. Would a compactor not fit the budget to go in the counter? It was a very smart idea to include sprinklers for the fenced in flowers and in the units in place of fire alarms.
Judge 3: Love the lot! You all make this job so hard Great job on fitting everything in such a tiny space.
I will not dock points about problems with communal kitchens and how sims can, or cannot handle those. As those are allowed per rules and it is not our fault that sims are coded the way they are.
Sink and those counters at the yard looks weird to me, like the plumbing is coming from the brickfence.
Maybe shelves in the kitchens?

Judge 1: I’d believe it used to be a factory/warehouse - sure! I like how you did the roof; and the solar panels are a terrific bonus Inside, however, everything just seems cramped. I wouldn’t mind if one or two units were too tight a fit, but all of them? I like the exposed pipe in places and the railings around the loft areas on the top floor. You’ve certainly captured the industrial feel. Good job - Thank you
Judge 2: Your lot certainly does nail the urban industrial vibe, which I like. I'm always a fan of seeing solar panels to help with rent! I think you really used every inch of your units to the fullest, and I thank you for explaning how your Murphy Bed would work for a couple. That said, I would have greatly preferred to see single beds in units 1 and 2 so that they have some kind of functional dresser in the unit - or am I missing another one somewhere?Thank you for the community space - I love the chess tables by the trees! I would have liked to see a waste bin or sink in the back for the BBQ area though. Thank you for both an elevator and stairs - I love seeing both options available! Little touches like the ivy above the sinks are cute and your mirror placement to give the apartments a bigger feel totally worked in tricking my eyes - good job!
Judge 3: Love the apartment, very good use of little space inside. And curtains!
Outside deco/landscaping is a little sparse. I have to dock the playability for the beds, as it needs hassling for 2 sims to use it without a mod. Even so that apartments in question were designated for one resident only (like woohoo wants on dates).

Judge 1: Very nice basic apartments - I think I’ve seen this place before (LOL! We lived in a college town for a while - there were a LOT of these places!) I love how personalized each unit is - even though the layout/fixtures are the same. Great job on that Thank you
Judge 2: Very realistic looking apartment complex, I have definitely seen this style in my own neighborhood. You made the interiors cozy and used the small space well to go after the aesthetic you wanted to share for each resident. Thank you for the well lit community space! It's just enough to be not too overwhelmed for the amount of residents. I would love to see you combine items (cheats are your friends!) or place things on angles a bit to give a bit more pizzazz to your builds. (Yes, I did notice the use of the corner slots in the kitchen, and that is always a smart play when space is limited.) They are good builds, but very safe. With your rents well under budget, a few extra wall hangings or mirrors in the bedrooms would always be welcome!
Judge 3: Very nice looking apartment. I love you managed to fit the blinds to the windows.
Inside walls are empty, maybe a picture or a poster?
Fenced backyard would of been nice, now it looks like open to anyone who happens to walkby. Maybe a flowerbed or a bush, and groundcover under the bushes would of made a big difference.
Host bonus: Maximum number of pictures exceeded by 3.
ekrubynaffit, I'll comment on your play-along tomorrow. Too tired to do you justice at the moment.

OH you! I owe you a hudge thanks, that idea of using shelves as filling counters.. PURE GENIOUS @Magnolia <3 <3

I'm very sorry, Ellu! I know how annoying it is when people get your name wrong. I'll be more careful in future.
Thanks for getting the scores up under such difficulties, Gummilutt! I'm still eating dust here but that's okay - I made some calls based on the Nova Colonia ambiance and I paid for them, which is fair. The thing is that there is no grungy stucco without CC (and precious little with it), except a handful of muted neutral tints, and Nova Colonia's style is colorful stucco. And I am always reluctant to use the trash chutes because I feel like I have to make waste space on each floor for the chute, and then at the bottom for the trash, and that's just not something I like. Except for chimneys. For some reason I don't mind doing it for chimneys, as I did in 5 Calle de Residencia.
I probably should have pushed harder to get everything perfect in the housemate building, but I'm just not up to pushing right now. I had a really good week the week before last, and then this past week stole all my momentum. I can see where I forgot a burglar alarm, and I probably should have done - something - more with the second and third floor common areas. But I fixed the blocked routing and the backwards stove and I have great hopes that my decorating and landscaping will pass muster this time, so onward and upward, and maybe I'll get a rush of energy to make a few more changes, take a few more pictures, and swap some out before judging starts on Round 3. It could happen.

Ha! Thanks! It was random happenstance really! I was annoyed to find with my first entry that the two back slots kept the counter accessible but clipped horribly with the wall and the front middle slot blocked sims using the counter. So I decided to try the shelf thing and it worked! Sims can use the counter and I get to have my clutter!
Thank you judges for the wonderful reviews! Super happy you guys like my entry!

Thank you for the comments judges; I'm glad you like my swimmable lake. I had fun making my cabins, but I've saved a half finished version of the lot so that I don't have to do the lake again if I want to make different buildings on another lake at some point.
The cabinets I used in the kitchen are not CC. They are the wine rack placed backwards with move objects, and for handles I used one of the pairs of bells from the holiday deco and placed them with both the move objects and snap to grid cheats. Are those the reason for the 0 under requirements, or did I miss something else?
Gummilutt, thanks for taking the time and putting up with a slow connection to get the scores up. I hope it cools down for you soon.

I didn't know burglar alarms were obligatory. I read somewhere they were not. The reason the trash chutes were on the outside was that when I played an apartment with them on the inside they disappeared for some reason.

Trash chutes are wastebaskets and aren't defined as fixtures for purposes of remaining when the apartment is rented. You put them in the common area, and they stay. You put them in the unit, and they go.
I don't think burglar alarms are mandatory; but I put them in every apartment but one so I anticipate losing a point for carelessness if I don't revise before the end of the round.
Forgot to say, also, that the posters on the front of the tenement building are meant to be flyers for bands playing in the vicinity, slapped up on the front without asking the permission of the management. If they were intended as building decoration they'd be inside. It would've been more obvious and sold better had they been overlapping thickly, but overlapping those posters just makes them impossible to make out. I hadn't thought of using algae for weeds. I'll have to try that out.

Oooooooooh! What a great idea! You should have mentioned that's what you did in the write up (It's the bell/handles that got me - if the cabinets hadn't had handles, I would've thought about the wine rack placed backwards.) Yes, that was the 5 point reduction. Since they are not CC, you should definitely get your 5 points back! @gummilutt - please add 5 points back to stitching's scores for me, K?
RE: trash, phones and alarms - every judge is different. For me, trash and phones are necessary - and I will deduct for them if I can't see them (if you specify they are present in your write up, I'll believe you!) I also think every ignitable item should be fire alarmed - but, it has been mentioned earlier in this thread, that the fire department has ESP where apartments are concerned - and they will show up with or without an alarm. Burglar alarms are nice for higher class digs, and kinda silly in the slums IMHO. Just to be clear, I will not take off points for either alarm in this contest. But remember - every judge is different - that's why there are three of us .

Thank you! I can't take credit for that cabinet idea, though. There was a thread on here a year or so ago where people were sharing build and decorating ideas, and I remembered someone sharing that trick.

Thank you kindly for the scores judges, I gambled on the great divide usage, and it only really mattered to one judge that playability was different, if I package this up for download, I will probably remove the divide and have rent go over 1K, as it was only there to keep that rent low. Thanks Gummi for reviewing all the extra stuff, I am glad i figured out what a full ground floor pic meant after hours of contemplation. I had no idea the cement belt would be offensive on the eyes! I thought about trying something different on the outer cover since I did majority bricks on round 1. Oh well, as we all know, can't be pleasing all judges every time. I'm done with round 3 and pics, it'll be a desert-y delight!

@Peni - Is that a random thing that happens? Because when I play-tested my first lot with wastebaskets, they were all there when rented and when I tested the lofts all the inside trash chutes stayed when rented.

Did I miss the part in the rules that burglar alarms are required? I never use them. I always put smoke alarms, but hidden behind an appliance. And phones? Why? They have cell phones.

No. My second round had no burglar alarms at all, as I mentioned in the description. It's just that all the apartments in my complex this round have a burglar alarm - except one! That's the sort of lack of attention to detail that costs points with most judges.
The trash chutes and wastebasket disappearing or not may be an example of glitchy apartment code; or it may be a case of the game working differently for different people in different set-ups. Who knows which is vanilla code?
I haven't lived in a lot of apartments, myself, and then it was on the ground floor, but my impression is that trash chutes are a community thing anyway, a single shaft going through all floors so that all the trash on every floor is dumped straight down to the dumpster sitting at the bottom.
Sometimes I put them on walls enclosing chimneys, with the idea that it all goes straight to an incinerator in the basement.
