SO disagree. But Democrats want to have a socialist medical system here (US), like England, because it is so much better; doctors will leave (they would have to accept lower payments), treatment will be determined by a non-doctor. (Need cancer treatment...wait 6 months. Or be denied because you are old). And you get this sort of shoddy treatment, with (it looks like) no recourse.
My first born was 3 week "late". Then I was in labor for 3 days; I was ready to get out the calf-puller (for you cattle people out there). He is now middle aged, and still a pain in the butt.

Best wishes Bigsimsfan12. Being even over 7 months pregnant is so uncomfortable (at least for me it was). Both mine were born early. My son was just over a week early and my daughter was just over 3 weeks early. She was small and jaundiced, but not in any danger. They told me to breastfeed her every two hours for a couple of weeks. Um, and when am I supposed to sleep, doctor?? Everything turned out fine, though. She's a healthy 17 year old girl now. Still, better late than early.

Not to get into a political discussion, but I'm American and the healthcare has always been great. Never had to wait more than a couple of days to see the doctor or a week to see a specialist (or get a test like a CAT scan, etc). My ob/gyn had me come in regularly for checkups as does my family doctor. When I needed a hysterectomy, they scheduled it the same week. Got an immediate issue, the doctor squeezes you in the same day. I had symptoms of a bladder infection a couple of weeks ago. They got me in, did a culture, gave me antibiotics the same day. It was gone in 5 days with the meds, but they still saw me a week later to do another culture (to make sure the blood in the urine was gone). My shrink sees me every 3 months (I have bipolar depression) to make sure the same meds are still working for me. Never once have I had sub-par care for me or my kids. ***shrugs***

I just came across Kridershot's canyon 'hood deco. I'm not sure if/how I'll ever use it in my game, but it looks great! :-)

I can only go by what I have been told and read since I am not American, have never been to America. My friend has to pay upwards of $300 a month for her very needed medication, sometimes she has tried taking less and making it last longer because of the cost and got very ill. Anyone without insurance is as far as I can tell up the creek without a paddle unless extremely poor. There appear to be huge hospital bills for any kind of stay. If you have money and great insurance you get treated well, while the extremely poor can get care as needed, but that working blue collar people on low wage jobs with none to very poor insurance miss out. Basically, they are not poor enough to get free care but not well off enough to buy good insurance. As to the politics of Democrat vs Republic, I don't really know or care, I will leave caring about that to Americans.

As to great finds since this is way off topic I found this great functional medieval funeral-hospital-prisoner set yesterday on PBK. It isn't even new but I hadn't really noticed it before. http://www.medievalsims.com/forums/...hp?f=172&t=4977

mustluvcatz 7th Jun 2019 1:24 AM

If I didn't have insurance I most likely wouldn't be alive because there's no way I could afford my medications. The co-pay? Got that. $400 a month? Don't got that.

And that's what makes our healthcare more screwed up than people realize. If I didn't have insurance the hospital would've still done what needed to be done for me last year - because they can't turn you away in an emergency. So I'd have made it through that either way but the meds I take help my heart perform (plus - diabetes) the way it should so....

I agree with you. My doctors have always been great. Yes, the costs are quite high, and I will be paying for my cancer treatment long after I've gone to Heaven. But I can't complain about the care I received.

Phantomknight 7th Jun 2019 2:20 AM

It's not one thing or the other in America, experiences run the whole gambit. And yes, the better insurance tends to be the most expensive--though there's crappy things all insurance companies do, from giving you a hard time about covering treatment for preexisting conditions; to playing tag when it comes time to actually pay for stuff (insurance companies regularly try to pass off claims to the state or to your spouse's insurance, etc., if they can); to the absolute hassle and run around trying to get authorization for medicine if your insurance decides they either don't want to cover your meds or that they want to make your doctor reconfirm every 6 months that yes, you *do* really need this essential/preventative medicine. I remember one time I had to call my current insurance company because they didn't want to authorize my asthma medication. They were trying to switch me from a preventative inhaler to an emergency acting one. It was clear that the rep had no idea the medicines weren't the same. Gee, you think that's why doctors prescribe the medications and not insurance companies? And while I understand some people fearing (perhaps a tad irrationally) losing access to their current healthcare providers under a different system, there can be no question that Americans pay way too much for healthcare. It's been proven time and again that we pay more than the rest of the world for prescription drugs and for care. Health insurance is a very hefty part of an average person's income, but even then you are kinda at the mercy of whatever quality of plan your employer offers.

Anyway, putting aside feelings about insurance companies and the US healthcare crisis and what we should do about it, the fact is that the US is in an ongoing maternity healthcare crisis right now. Our maternal mortality rate is very high compared to other western/affluent countries. So yeah, in this area of healthcare at least, the US does actually suck.

Phil DeFranco has an excellent intro video on it, if you want to know more: https://youtu.be/05KhmcGFpWw

Yeah, and how much does all that cost? The average cost out of pocket for a hysterectomy without insurance is $19,450 in the US. I know someone who couldn't afford her insulin, which had gone up to $400+ a month. She rationed it, then discovered she was pregnant. Because of her higher sugar in those very early developmental weeks before she knew, her baby has a major heart defect and will require surgery immediately after birth, and multiple others in her early years. Her family now has to move back in with her in-laws in anticipation of the hospital bills and related costs. Even with insurance, they'll have to pay up to $12,000 out of pocket on medical costs before they reach their annual max. The quality of care isn't the problem, the cost is.

Anyway, before I saw the turn the thread took, I wanted to say this. That house @LFact linked to on the last page. I know this is super old, but because of this post, I came across plasticbox's tutorial thread on basements. I rarely make basements in game because I struggled with them so much years ago that I stopped bothering for my own sanity. I think this thread solves an issue I've had with windows and sunlight that don't have massive foundations, and I can't believe I never saw this until now. Basements for everyone!

joandsarah77 7th Jun 2019 5:09 AM

Yes^ I didn't mean the care you receive in the US wasn't good, I was referencing the cost and how this is out of reach for many. If a person can't afford either the care or the medication, effectively they are not getting this great care.

I looked up having a hysterectomy here. With Medicare, there is little to no cost for a hysterectomy if you are a registered public patient and have surgery in a public hospital. The waiting time is bad though.

If you are a public patient in a private hospital, Medicare will cover 75% of the bill, so you could face up to $3,000 of out of pocket expenses. We did this for years. You get seen to quickly and the cost while not cheap is still affordable for most people. We debated getting insurance for years and since my meds do cost quite a bit more now it's still debatable if we are worse off with insurance. My dad still prefers to be uninsured and just pay out of pocket when need be.

For a private patient with good insurance, there may be some out of pocket expenses for a hysterectomy, likely to be around $500.

I saw Kridershot's canyon hood deco video some days ago but since they have zero details I won't be getting it. For example poly count? A demo of how it all works? My guess is the textures are huge. @lauratje86 if you use it let us know how it is.

Sunbee 7th Jun 2019 5:11 AM

We've had the US gamut from poor folks' government care through Affordable Care Act insurance to blue collar worker insurance to (this last week, gah!) top of the line multiple university and private insurances. Both my parents were in the hospital simultaneously for about two hours last Saturday night before they flew Mom to a hospital more suited to the care she needed. The only one that really sucked badly--as in couldn't get permission to see physicians when needed--was the ACA insurance, which was provided by the same company as the other two, but you're supposed to get pre-authorization from your kids' physician before taking them to the ER if you have Medicaid (poor folks' government care).

Dad had a ton of problems, after thirteen days, two surgeries, and I don't know how many antibiotics or how much insulin, he's now, as of today, in rehab, and will be home in a couple weeks. Mom was life flighted for stroke to another hospital just in case she needed surgery but she got tPA within three hours and is home, absolutely fine, no complications. They will have a whopping bill, but it'll be a tiny percent of what the insurance companies are going to pay, and without modern medicine both would be dead. I can't begrudge a $12,000 or $15,000 bill (I don't know exactly what their max OOP is) when their care easily topped $500,000.

I'm glad I don't have that level of medical necessity in my game, and that's one aspect I've never tried to hack into more realism. No sim needs for insulin or quadruple bypass surgery or life flight or even EMTs or stitches.

Sometimes it's the quality of care too. Unfortunately, demographics and location play a role in the levels of care that people receive.

I have most of those but be warned while I love them, the first ones are townified (I really wish they weren't) and were what I was asking about on the silly question thread. The amount of work I would have to do to undo all that townifying makes throw up my hands and simply leave them all be.

Phantomknight 7th Jun 2019 12:42 PM

Ah, so that was what that was about! How does townified toddler or baby clothes work? Does that mean adopted kids can show up in them? I wouldn't have thought it mattered for those ages.

Also, can you use the Wardrobe Wrangler? I know you can use it to batch townify, but idk if it works in reverse.

Raise the ground by 4 clicks, then drag foundation from the raised ground. Then you'll get 8-click high foundation. Flatten the ground. Also, you can use modular stairs to dig a 4-click hole at once.

It means the babies are born in the garments like a default and the toddlers I think age up in them quite often, but not always. I assume adopted kids do show up in them.

That's a good idea. I have it but haven't tried it on this pc. It wouldn't run on my old one so I tend to forget about it. Is there a tutorial on using it someplace?

CaliBrat, that happens all the time for me with Squinge's mods. Every few months I swear I see something I've never seen before. Idk how that keeps happening but it does. Anyway, I have that one and I like it. Perfect for romance sims looking to seduce all the service sims or just for those times when I wanna hire the one semi-competent butler/nanny.

Jo, I tried looking into the detownify process and it's a no go--there doesn't seem to be a way to batch detownify. Wardrobe Wrangler lets you batch townify, but not the other way around, apparently.

However, it is true that if your employer doesn't give you a health plan, you will suffer. Even with Obama-care, the attempt at "health care for all" is a failure. If you are poor enough, medicare will give you crappy care. And if you aren't lucky enough to be quite poor enough, you will have to go to free clinics, or emergency rooms (even for a minor thing like a cold).
So why are you disagreeing?

When you choose an NPC, are you making sure to click hire "Squinge's Maid" or "Squinge's Butler"...etc., or are you just choosing the standard Maxis hire option?

'Cause if you're not choosing the Squinge options, the mod won't work as advertised.

Oh of course...but it only shows the same one under the regular NPC. I'm going to try redownloading it. Lately I've done this successfully with some mods.

Phantomknight 8th Jun 2019 4:37 PM

Oh, if it only shows one, perhaps you only have one npc in that category then? Did you move in any npcs? And/or do you have any no townie regeration mods? That'll prevent the game from making more than one.

SimCity available as a Downtown or a Base Neighborhood. Has a small amount of CC. Requires AL and probably all the other EPs. Includes some apartment and community lots. The Randomizer

It's available for all pixels-playables, NPC's, the works!

Quote:
Randomize Me: randomizes currently active sim
Randomize All: randomizes all sims in the neighborhood who are safe and old enough
Randomize All Unplayables: randomizes all sims in the neighborhood who are safe, old enough, and belong to a reserved family (townies, NPCs, downtownies, garden club members, locals, tourists, hobby mavens, social townies)
Randomize X: randomizes all sims from group “X” (this option is available for all the reserved families named above)

Frac at PBK has a new creation out! Portable money-storage objects ("banks"), where you can decide how many simoleons each one contains. Thirty-eight styles, including wall-mounted safes, have differing capacities and work as decorative objects also, some with slots and some you can open and close. Mindbogglingly, after being filled as desired, she says all the objects are able to be carried by sims in inventory, for gifting or for putting down so that other sims can pick them up---including the balance they were filled with.

The possibilities, wow! I think my hood may start doing inheritances from elder sims with death premonitions using these, and probably no one's going to go to college with sculptures in inventory any longer. Hm...wonder if anyone might do a mash-up of these with SimWardrobe's openable gift animations or mesh!

ETA: As I posted over here, these objects do add to a sim's lifetime wealth tally whenever they make a withdrawal from one---even if it's money they just put in themselves. For situations where that's not ideal, I mention in that other post the money-storage cc I already know about---let me know if you know of others!

This is awesome!!! Love, love, love! Thank you for sharing that! Now my children can put family gifts in a piggy bank and students can bank their scholarships etc. Brilliant.

Ya know the expression 'bout lookin for somethin only to find what you were lookin for was in your own backyard the whole time... well that's sorta how this was...(however I wasn't technically lookin for anything specific... just followin links...lol)

I'd followed a link that took me to a simblr page. From there found a link that brought me right back here to MTS ... lol.

When it comes to upper floor pools, if there was some way to extract the animated pool water layer then using this tutorial it would be nearly possible to completely create a believable rooftop pool

http://www.picknmixmods.com/Sims2/P...oofTopPool.html

a couple of last edits I would have made are that in his design what he calls the first floor (I would call it the second floor) could have a room under the pool in the same shape and with a stage to offset the 20 click depth to 16 click depth of normal pools/room heights instead of the strange 8 click pool height (due to the 4 height wall and stage combination) he has shown in the tutorial. That should solve the visual issue he experienced.
This explanation would have been better with pictures.

Yay! You are so welcome...though of course the only credit I can take there is that for being an obsessive site-checker, lol.

So far, my favorite way to use the banks is outside of a sim's inventory, as in-home safes for the household. It's actually a big deal that every sim in the household can access the funds once they're in there---because that's not possible with any other deposit cc that I've seen. Makes for nice realism that mom can put her promotion bonus in the safe...and the teen can "physically" raid it and buy clothes, or granddad can access the stored funds while everyone else is at work to go get groceries or pay that overdue bill. But I like too that being able to put them in inventory provides for an easy way for wealth to sometimes disappear when a sim dies.

Since I mentioned funding college in my OP and yavanna did too, here's another creation that almost all my college-going sims have been using: kestrellyn's excellent College Tuition charging/tracking object. It's actually incredibly versatile, easily used for more than just tuition situations (I also use it for loaning money between two sims and even for tracking and transferring child support monies due). Also, whatever situation you're using it for, you can change the interest rate any time without interrupting the process or having to do any calculations on your own. It does it all for you!

I'm going to comment on that object's thread now to talk in more detail about ways I use it (precollege, postcollege, and sim-sim loans/child support), in case that helps anyone. But let me also say that kestrellyn is fantastic about providing support, and the object tracks everything with total reliability in my game. (That's important because I previously used a system by Monique for tracking some of these things, and it would end up forgetting any and all amounts involved, for all sims, if there was a hood reset!)

CaliBrat 15th Jun 2019 3:16 AM

On the subject of money savin and such... one of the things I started doin was that startin the day a child is born I'll have a parent (generally the father ... this is just so I can stay consistent and remember who did it...lol) transfer money into the childs name with Moniques computer. I've yet to get farther in the childs age, but by my guesstimation when the child either goes off to college or moves out on their last teen day they should have 3000 simoleans just from the parents settin up their 'college fund'. If the child gets money through chance and when they become teens and get a job they can put the money in themselves.

Just thought I'd share in case it sounded of interest to others

Oh, I tend to make all the pixels once they're moved into a house, put the rest of it into the bank for the next house up, or if the kids need money themselves when they're buying their first house. Good way to break up huge fortunes into more reasonable ones..

So Meetmetotheriver is recleaning the hoods again. this is to insure that every sim is as safe as possible to resurrect (as I discovered with the 2011 version PT Smith's ancestors do not have character data, thus they are not resurrectable.)
Currently the original three have been created,
they do not have townies
but most of the main sims and ancestors have been relinked and character data added. the ones that aren't have been removed.

This just saved me right as I needed it.

Scrolled down Tumblr and this popped up.
No more adfly links!

Phantomknight 19th Jun 2019 12:57 PM

@joandsarah77, do you have any browser extensions to block adfly? If you are on Chrome, you can use AdSkipper; that's been working well for me. I posted about it a while back.

I use Firefox but skip over to Chrome when needed.

Phantomknight 19th Jun 2019 6:26 PM

K, so turns out that there are some things to try; found this reddit thread (https://www.reddit.com/r/thesims/co...nloading_sites/) and someone mentioned anti-adblock-killer as a firefly extension and it works on TSR supposedly. Worth a try, right?

joandsarah77 20th Jun 2019 12:16 AM

I noticed my TSR skipper isn't working as well as it use to. My guess is that TSR are working on bypassing it.

But I am going to use the information I posted above to skip any adfly, I don't need a skipper, it's brilliant.

I absolutely love katatty and moocha-muses' fabulously detailed new custom neighbourhood Nekojima - a small island off the coast of Takemizu Village, where the cats outnumber the townspeople (townssims?!) and the town's residents are still reeling from the loss of two of their finest fishers in a recent storm :-)

I am very excited about playing it and am already planning how to fit it into my (theoretical) uberhood. I have also been searching for CC for the 'hood - mostly Japanese buy and build mode stuff, Japanese food and cat-related objects. In the process I found this Japanese food and this food which is eaten with chopsticks by 11rabbit. I haven't tested it out in game yet - I'm just about to, and will post back here when I do - but it looks like a great selection of foods, provided they look and function as expected :-)

Well, I downloaded a few of their chopstick foods to try out in my game, and I was fairly pleased with them :-) I'm trying to edit some of the files in SimPE so that the name of the food will show up correctly in the fridge menu in game (instead of them showing up as the food they were cloned from).

**ETA** I thought that I'd got them working, but I was wrong :-(

Other than that they seem to work well and it's very cool seeing my sims eat their Japanese omelette using chopsticks at breakfast-time, for example :-) I will definitely be downloading more of 11rabbit's foods :-)

**ETA** I love these decorative feathers, by moocha-muses - I think that they'd work brilliantly added to HugeLunatic's Mod 'Ur Hike mod! :-)

In my never-ending attempt to do ANYTHING other than housework, I've been looking at the tags at the bottom of the download page.
