natboopsie 17th Jul 2019 1:52 AM

Thank you, LFact! Yeah, I didn't realize those were out there either.

Though what I especially liked about what midge did (from your earlier post today) was that she made Maxis stuff functional, so I don't have to add more items to my catalogs...I hate when I can't find stuff, argh, and so I have a low tolerance for an overstuffed catalog. (I'm a huge fan of default replacing for CAS stuff too.)

Ooh, speaking of mods and modded objects that can help reduce catalog clutter, Nopke has a new time/weather controller on the "unpublished" area of his site.

I've been using it in my game and can recommend it. In addition to finally being the one object that simultaneously can replace both the Day Setter and Paladin's (SimWardrobe's) Season and Weather Controller (only available link is to an SFS archive because SimWardrobe is closed), it also does at least two things that I don't believe any of our other hacked objects do:
  • sets game time to the minute and
  • sets outdoor temperature in 20-degree increments.

Plus it has some batbox/Blender-like ability to set type of precipitation and amount of accumulation.

I can't wait for these unpublished mods of Nopke's! There's a few that I am really, really interested in. Hopefully they will be made, courtesy of Nopke! :lovestruc

You don't have to wait - they've already been made, and they're available for download on that link.

natboopsie 17th Jul 2019 4:32 AM

@Fyren5 You're very welcome. But actually, the news gets even better: you can download all of those "unpublished" mods of Nopke's already!

I should have clarified that although he calls them unpublished, he seems to mean simply that they are not yet uploaded anywhere other than his own site and that (I assume) he considers them still in testing. (So you can leave him direct feedback using the box underneath his list of the unpublished, and I'm sure he'll appreciate it if you find any bugs or just have observations about how they work, or if there are ways in which they don't.)

So you can just head right back to his "unpublished" page and look near the top. There's a hotlink that reads, "Unpublished packages on Sim File Share." Click that, and you'll see that there's a whole SFS page with each of the unpublished mods listed and clickable for download.
(But I know, yay, right? He's got some great ones!)

ETA: sooo ninja'd by omglo, lol.

Well, after trying Midge the tree's 'Study all skills from books': I can say it will work for any bookcase, vanilla or CC, for it is a global mod. Con is, looks like this mod removes life skill study menu(FT&AL) from bookcases(modded books like this won't be affected at all).

Thanks for @ing me, Jo! @LFact do you mean the study fire safety/parenting/etc interactions? Because I still see those in the bookcase pie menu in my game with the "study all skills" mod in place. Is it possible you have some mod that is conflicting with "study all skills"?

I don't have any other global mod for bookcase, but I have some skill-related mods, such as 'Community lot skilling'. But it can be anything I've never expected.

I haven't tried this mod of MTT's but most people use CLS so I doubt its that.
A couple of other mods that deal with books is the group toddler and child read a story mod and the one that makes books more autonomous.

Yes, exactly - the concern with conflicts is more with mods that affect bookcase/books rather than those that affect skilling, since the mod only overrides semiglobals that affect bookcases/books and only bookcases/books, so CLS is safe but other book/bookcase related mods might not be. I included a version that's autonomous and said to use it and make sure it loads after mrclopes's mod if you want enabled autonomy for reading books and all the other autonomy adjustments from mrclopes's mod, but the "read a story" mod is one I didn't think to check and you're right that it probably conflicts with study all skills as well.

I know you said you have no other bookcase-related mods, but it doesn't hurt to run the HCDU just to be sure, if you haven't already. Since I haven't been able to replicate your problem in my own game I'm not sure what explanation there could be other than mod conflict, unless it's an issue that only affects one of the versions but I double-checked them all in SimPE and everything seemed to be in order.

joandsarah77 23rd Jul 2019 7:08 AM

I had a conflict with the toddler group read to mod and auto read mod and the creator of the toddler one made another version. Sorry, I can't think of the name of the mod or creator. (even though I can picture her avatar on Tumblr) I know it's in my mods folder but yeah... that really needs some better organization as I don't know where in there I filed it.

The other thing is the traits project and I wonder how all of those will play with existing mods. One reason I have yet to use more than a couple.

LFact 23rd Jul 2019 7:46 AM

Funny, I am already working on that as my next thread to start, since I've got most of the traits mods in my game and did a bunch of troubleshooting to get them all working. (There were many, many HCDU-reported conflicts with my existing mods; however, load order fixed the majority of them, so I'm planning to give the details for each in the thread.)

Should have that thread up by the weekend, if not earlier---will love having others report their experiences, and hopefully the whole thing will be helpful to all the modders actively working with traits. (I will link to/from it also from our main existing thread on traits for TS2, to keep all that info together.)

Guess things are more messed up than I thought. I disabled 'study all skills from bookcase' and ran the game, only to find FT/AL life skill menus are gone like before. So I decided to move some seemingly unrelated CCs I recently added from download folder, in case of 'unexpected' conflict.

Back to the topic...
Give more conputer options to vanilla computers and their clones(anything not Monique's or Chrisitianlov's): https://midgethetree.tumblr.com/pos...s-you-to-direct
(About 'Practive writing' importable custom package, it messed up updated Sunair Light computer for me. I had to extract BHAV from another computer I added practice writing command, import it to unmodified one(I didn't make backup then so I had to re-extracted the computer from the archive) and manually added new command. Then it worked well)

I just discovered Default Replacements! I love them, and I love this website for making them easy to find https://sims2defaults.dreamwidth.org/

I had heard about them before, and realize I am late to the game - but the ones I love best are the replacements that allow the T-Shirts already in game to be longer so that you don't always have a sliver of midriff showing. Sure, there are some sims who would dress like that, but I rarely used them before. Now they are all fixed!

I am so happy.

For me it was all about the hair, that has really come a long way both in textures and options. Especially for men, the often forgotten and left to flounder in bad clothes and even worse hair.

Orphalesion 28th Jul 2019 6:29 PM

So I'm making rather heavy use of a set of non-default face templates I found years ago. Now I found some more non-default face templates. Will installing them somehow mess up my current custom templates or are both sets good to use at the same time?

simmer22 28th Jul 2019 7:20 PM

^ As long as they're non-default, you should be able to use both sets without any issues (but ff they're defaults, you can only have one set at a time).

The templates only affect sims you (or the game) make after they're installed. This is also true for defaults. They shouldn't interfere with any already made sims or sim templates (downloaded/Bodyshop sims), and they're safe to add to or remove.

For TS2 this is also true for custom sliders - these can be added or removed with no effect on existing sims or sim templates.

TS2 faces work with morphs, so once the face is saved, it isn't at all dependent on the original preset or sliders (unlike TS3 and possibly also TS4, which may sometimes be dependent on having the sliders available in the game).

(I'm not quite into how custom face templates are made, but I'm guessing the only way they could interact if there's an instance (?) reuse in the files, kinda like a GUID but for CAS items. Considering how few face templates that exist, I don't think it's more likely than a GUID conflict between two unrelated items by two different creators, perhaps even less).

** About conflict status: I moved out all of new objects and recolors(I don't think they cause something) from Downloads folder. The bookcase study menu is now back to normal, guess something's wrong with CCs I recently added.
**Edit: Looks like I should re-buy all bookcases. For now, I could not find the cause of the conflict, only to find out it affects all bookcases bought before.
** Edit 2: No, it seems like once a lot is affected, it's no use to buy new bookcase. I have an empty lot with one sim in one of neighborhoods, and I saw any bookcase I placed working normally there, but for lots I have been playing, new bookcases do not have any FT/AL life skill study.
**Edit 3: Oh, it's not hard to update Natalya_Sh's secretaire to FT.

I agree, though for MLC's set linked there, I usually just use it in the bathroom, next to a tub or shower. Nowadays bathroom designers are putting shelves that are built in/ recessed into the wall, rather than having shelves and soap dishes that hang off the wall. So that's how I use that. Hey my dudes and dudettes, it's been like two years since I've played TS2.

What would you say are some standout hits / really awesome finds to check out since I've been gone so long?

venusking 22nd Aug 2019 7:14 PM

Check this site every week or so. You'll find tons of new stuff, you can also look through the archives. This site is the reason my downloads folder keeps growing and growing...

@siletka Apart from Simcave you will want to check out

MideTheTree https://midgethetree.tumblr.com/
and
The Trait project https://hexagonal-bipyramid.tumblr....-traits-for-ts2

siletka 23rd Aug 2019 3:46 PM

Thank you @venusking and hey @joandsarah77 long time no see!

I'm still a little confused as to the usefulness of the traits in TS2 but I'm pouring through Mide's page and Simscave (can't believe I forgot about Simscave!).

smorbie1 23rd Aug 2019 8:54 PM

So glad you're back. There's actually a thread about how we are going to incorporate the traits into our gameplay.

A lot has changed since you've been gone. There have been a few genuine breakthroughs. It's cool.

natboopsie 24th Aug 2019 12:36 AM

Welcome back, siletka! I remember you from reading your older posts, so it's fun to see you returned and "live."

Yes, there is! (And it's my opinion too that the Traits Project and its mods can add a lot to gameplay...especially if you're into simology and other ways to keep individual sims unique.)

It's worth looking over at Plumb Bob Keep as well if you like functional, gameplay-adding cc; Frac hasn't been able to be as active since Sunni passed in January of 2018, but they did have a few releases in the latter half of 2017 and Frac's had a few since (some perhaps on other subforums). And of course, that community is very creative in its own right, with many innovative downloads that can be placed with no issues in a contemporary game.

Finally, since I'm in this thread, mentioning in general an awesome thing that Sunrader explained how to do: place your own lots in the Specialty Lots bin! Read her post here and keep reading through at least Chris Hatch's post, a couple down from hers---he's already offered up a fix for an issue that can come up if you start adding to that bin.

joandsarah77 24th Aug 2019 12:43 AM

I had a post and somehow clicked the page off But I was saying how the traits just give you another layer of personality and that I am hoping for a vegetarian trait. Right now I have to manually try and keep my vegetarian sims from eating meat but how handy would it be if a trait could assign foods as a yes or no. The most fun and useful trait is the pickpocket mod, your sims can really be a pickpocket with it. Even if I wasn't interested in anything else, I am in that.

I also mentioned natboopsie post up in help. Sticky threads.

With my love for all things autonomous, I tested simler90's newest homework mod today. I really like the smooth autonomous putting away of homework onto tables/desks, etc. http://modthesims.info/d/632073/hom...gnment-mod.html
It also works just fine with monique's autonomous at 7pm mod, so I'm quite happy with the two together. http://modthesims.info/d/105857

Simler90 did choose to also make the homework take longer and be more difficult, but I tweaked that part out for my game. My kids do quite enough school as it is.

I was interested in simler90's mod as well but didn't install because of the increased time and difficulty. Do you happen to know the default maxis values so I can tweak the mod accordingly?

I didn't tweak the numbers. I simply replaced the BCONs in the mod with the Maxis BCONs. I considered just deleting the BCONs and letting the Maxis ones kick in, but didn't want to risk messing up the placement part that works really beautifully.
Here are screenshots of what the Maxis ones look like in my version, though:

joandsarah77 27th Aug 2019 6:54 AM

Thank you for the fix, I was just looking at the mod and decided not to download it due to it being longer, but now I can. I think a version shorter and a version normal length would be handy as I know there is a shorter homework mod out there.

Does this also fix the longer learn to study bit as well? I don't want that either.

Yes, this just uses Maxis times for everything.

Now that you mentioned it, I looked at Dave Luv's shorter homework mod. Those are just the same BCONs modified to be shorter. You could replace the BCONs in simler's with those instead to make it shorter if you like. http://modthesims.info/d/244132/fas...mework-mod.html

I'd love to do this too! Can't figure out where to get the Maxis BCONs though, I looked at some tutorials but I still don't get it.

Edit: okay I might have figured it out (wiho!) but I don't know if I did it correctly. I clicked "make labels" chose 'no' to "keep labels", then just edited the hex (which automatically updated dec). Did I do it right?

I think the easiest way of getting rid of doing homework and learning to study longer is deleting both BCONs and Sub - Do Homework - Increment & Exit? BHAV. If there are no edited resources, the game uses default settings.

I was going to do that but didn't want to risk interfering with the part of the mod that works so nicely. I've since created another version that uses DaveLuv's faster BCONs, too, so I like it being adjustable all in one, but yeah that was my first thought, too.

Hey, Sunrader, I just went to your simblr and robbed you blind. :3

I LOVE the African architecture, but have a couple of questions. Are they downloadable? Couldn't figure out how. Also, are they neighborhood deco or actual usable houses (hope hope hope).

Love your stuff!

I read that too. Looks pretty neat. Is it a work in progress or is it ready and functional? I always hated how SC4 flipped the neighborhoods on me.

It seems to be ready and functional, it was made also with the purpose of fixing the flipped neighborhood issue. Unfortunately it seems to do only road layouts, I would have loved some terraforming tools as well.

Bob Newbie 5th Sep 2019 7:50 PM

Just to clear things up: HoodPlanner does not replace SimCity 4, but it will make the process of creating a Sims 2 neighborhood easier since you don't have to think about the different road lenghts between the games as well as the mirroring of the city.

Devon Aster 5th Sep 2019 9:53 PM

That looks awesome! Although I'm not looking to abandon my current hood, it'll come in handy if I want to do any custom subhoods (or if I decide to do my own map for a main hood later).

I had no idea just how much I wanted this mod till I installed it in my game and saw it in action. I've got a couple of shops that sell a ton of cologne so I've got sims spritizing themselves all over the place.
I always thought the love/hate attraction for cologne was useless until now. Sometimes it's the simplest things that can make you the happiest.

Oooooooo, this is exciting. Now I gotta find some deco food to try it! @joandsarah77, did you see this?
EDIT: I found an older tute by Leefish, btw. I do think Deedee's is a bit easier to follow, but wanted to acknowledge the older work as well.

joandsarah77 13th Sep 2019 4:19 AM

I did. I have most of those foods already restockable from Sun&Moon stations. Fruit, veg, cheese and meats. I've downloaded it to take a look at the bread and bottles though.

Firstly, guys I hope you enjoy the new stockables. It's been a lot of fun doing these for my game... for added food source variety. Plus, it's nice being able to determine how many "Fresh Food Points" these foods should be worth too. I've done several more objects for personal use only (mainly ATS newer food deco items... that cannot be shared based on Sandy's TOU), and must say converting deco food into something useful is quite fun... and addicting. My current to-do-list is getting pretty lengthy.

Secondly, I went with DeeDee's tutorial as she (and MidgetheTree) had updated things in a way as to allow for owner's of a business to restock in the usual manner, instead of having to purchase the items first/place in inventory and then restock from there.

However, Lee definitely deserves a shout-out. :lovestruc

Edit: I've updated my original posting at GoS to add collection files for the download if any of you want them, and there are some extra recolors of the milk bottle too.

While browsing at BPK, there was a thread about object errors related to the game. There was a link provided for the listing of object errors and their meanings, which I think would probably be very useful to people who are attempting to debug the game:

Great Grains - Industrial Grains, Rice, and Flour by Sun&Moon http://www.medievalsims.com/forums/...p?f=240&t=10267

Phantomknight 20th Sep 2019 4:07 AM

Oh, that looks good, Jo; thanks for the link! Definitely have to incorporate that into my integrate hood ideas!

So Simler90 has been making lots of new mods lately. One, Gypsy Matchmaker Fix, is something I've been waiting for, for years. And another, Slower Skills-Badges-Cleaning-Repairing, while cool in it's own right, reminded me of something I found months ago but forgot to post about.

So I found this archive on simsasylum.com for Xptl (link is http://simsasylum.com/tfm/index.php...rk-for-sims-2/&, but you have to have a login to view & download). Now, I think I was hesitant to mention this at first, because it seems like Xptl was a group of modders and I couldn't be sure who to credit, but... there are some real gems in there! There are mods that make making the bed, using the dishwasher, and washing dishes in the sink increase cleaning. (@Rosawyn, I'm at-ing you for this because I came across this thread while I was trying to remember where I got the mods from, and I wanted to let you know that no, you are not crazy, such a thing did and does exist. )

But even curiouser, there was this mod called "Biorithmus". The description says, among other things:

So it seems to be a visitor aging mod. Compatible with apartment lots. I nearly fell out of my chair when I read this. Has anyone ever heard of this thing? I feel like so many simmers were/are looking for this exact thing.

I'm a little scared to try it, though. Thoughts??

Oh wow, that's good to know! (Good to know I'm not crazy, lol.) Signed up for the site and downloaded the archive (well, waiting for it to finish downloading) then gonna take a peek to see what's all in there.

Quote:

Definitely something you'd want to try out in a test hood first, I think. Also probably a good idea to run the HCDU to see if it pings anything you're already currently using (especially if it's something you really like!). But also it's just really not something I want, because if I'm reading all of that info correctly, the only sims it ages are playables who I can already just go and play if I want them to age. The sims I want to age are NPCs and townies, the ones I can't play. This mod could be cool tho for people who want a more TS3/TS4 style experience, I guess?

Phantomknight 20th Sep 2019 5:27 AM

I think it ages visitors and neighboring residents--which would be super cool. Finally, all those sims I have but don't actually want to play anymore can age! So yeah, I guess it's a version of story progression, but unlike with TS3, we can control multiple households. And you're right--a test hood, duh! I guess I just couldn't believe that I've never heard a peep about it. The simming community is even bigger than I thought.

BTW, the cleaning mods are in the "skilling mods" rar.

Rosawyn 20th Sep 2019 5:39 AM

Thanks! Dang, there's a lot of stuff, might have taken me some time to find that without your tip. But also...wow is there ever more than I ever asked for! Putting toys away increases cleaning skill??? DO WANT!!! Weird that the dollhouse increases Cleaning tho...always wanted that one to do Charisma (or possibly Creativity, as either makes sense to me). I just don't see the logic for Cleaning there. Hmm. Any idea what "CheckSelfFullFunPlusIncreasesCleaningSkill2" means?

Now to run the HCDU and see what happens...

Edit: Ah, darn, a conflict. Just one, tho, btwn "norabbitspin" and "ToyRabbitSkillsAlsoOtherParticipants" (well, I didn't put them all in, just the skilling ones that looked like something I wanted). Since I don't want my rabbit to twist its head around, for now I just won't bother with the "toddler toy skills other participant" mods, because while an adult would realistically learn something from playing with a toddler, the rate should be very slow and tbh I'd just prefer if they gained hobby enthusiasm from those actions.

FranH 20th Sep 2019 5:44 AM

I have a form of the Biorithmus clock by XPTL in a simpler form:
Sends children to bed at 8, adults at 11. Teens go to bed as well at 11. It does have the drawback of keeping pixels hunger motive at half, and that can make them hungry almost all the time.
The one I have does not do anything about aging or time control. I prefer it to it's more exotic twin, because it doesn't complicate things-I have plenty of other mods that do more than keep everyone from staying up until all hours of the night.

Phantomknight 20th Sep 2019 6:09 AM

@Rosawyn, you should be able to change the dollhouse mod to increase charisma instead of cleaning (when you get simPE up and running). "CheckSelfFullFunPlusIncreasesCleaningSkill2" probably means that the "Check Self Out" interaction increases fun, possibly boosting it to a full fun bar, as well as increases cleaning.

And @FranH, thanks! That's very helpful! Do you know what the clock version is named, so I can see if it's in the archive? I think I would actually like sims' hunger motive to be reduced--I actually have BoilingOil's No Fresh Food, because without it, my sims who garden would only eat like once a day. Having that might mean sims could have 3 square meals a day.
