Wait, where do I get this improved genetics mod? It sounds like exactly what I've been looking/wishing for.

Voeille 5th Apr 2017 12:29 AM

It’s one of the files in the SFS folder with unpublished mods.

Rosawyn 5th Apr 2017 12:45 AM

is there anywhere I can find a description of what it does, specifically?

How are they different to the bodyshop sliders I've had for a while?

joandsarah77 5th Apr 2017 4:07 AM

Look at the sim cave link, it has a giff showing the new eye brow movement.

Palabooo 5th Apr 2017 10:15 AM

Wow. Really excited to see how this whole custom slider thing evolves. Super impressed !

Is that the only thing? The rest looks the same.

I suggest looking at the downloads tab to see other things this person has created. You can probably make a deco six flags or county fair with those stuff.

Anybody remember the fab WORKING rollercoaster on sims 1? Man, I wish we could have something like that....

sigh....

For a second I thought that was in Sims 3 as regular content. xD

@smorbie: Have you seen Echo's Carnival download?

Carnival

Voeille 5th Apr 2017 5:55 PM

@Rosawyn more info here.

velvetina 5th Apr 2017 6:09 PM

Oh no! That improved genetics mod conflicts with creaturefixes... It sounds interesting, but I will have to pass because of that. I don't want to remove any essential mod from my downloads folder!

smorbie1 5th Apr 2017 6:20 PM

You aren't talking about the new sliders, are you?

RoxEllen1965 5th Apr 2017 8:03 PM

No, there's a mod in that list that changes which eye and hair colors are dominant and which are recessive. I'm going to pass on that too. I don't want to give up my creaturefixes either.

If you're wanting to change hair and eye dominance, The Silver Linging did a mod for changin hair genetics and Mootilda did the same for eyes.

I use both of these and have creature fixes and don't have any issues. I have mine set so that all hair and eyes are equal as I like that it's more of a 50/50.

Voeille 5th Apr 2017 8:46 PM

But guys... Did you actually read what is written on that page?

If there is a conflict between one of my mods and any other mod, the other mod should be loaded first (you don’t need to delete it in most cases). It means that its name has to be less in alphanumerical way, like in a dictionary. For example: b-name is less than c-name, but greater than a-name and 1-name; none < note < nothing. You may also put my mod into a folder named Zzz or something like that.

So you can have both improved genetics and creaturefixes, just make the genetics mod load after it.

Rosawyn 5th Apr 2017 8:52 PM

Wow, I really like most of the logic in that genetics mod, but why would green eyes be more dominant than blue and grey?? That's not how it works irl at all! Also not at all okay with the conflict, so I guess maybe I'll just have to go figure out how to edit genetics myself.

Edit: Well, it says "you don’t need to delete it in most cases," and I'd like to know what "in most cases" actually means! But honestly, that dominant green eyes thing is enough all on its own for me to not bother with this.

Voeille 5th Apr 2017 9:07 PM

@Rosawyn green eyes actually are dominant over blue, detailed explanation here and here. And about that conflict, improved genetics is in “most cases” and load order is enough to get rid of the conflict. I have both mods myself and everything is fine

Um...okay then. I'm sure I'd read somewhere that green eyes were far less common irl than blue eyes, so I'm not sure how that makes any sense, if that stuff about them being more genetically dominant is true. And neither of those explanations includes any reference whatsoever to grey eyes, which of course also exist.

Voeille 5th Apr 2017 10:08 PM

Yes it’s true that green eyes are the least common, but it’s not because of them being the most recessive, it just happens to be like that. Maybe green eyed people happened to have children with brown eyed people most of the time and the green eyes gene didn’t get a chance to become common? It’s just a guess of course, I don’t know what caused it. It’s similar to skin colours – the darkest is the most dominant, but there are more lighter skinned people, and my guess for the reason of it is also similar. As for grey eyes, apparently it’s still unclear what exactly causes eyes to have that colour.

Wait, what? I suppose it really depends on how you define "lighter" and "darker," but I really don't think there are actually more people with lighter skin in the world and I don't think there has ever been a point in history where there were. Again, I guess it really depends on how you define "lighter" and "darker."
