Now that looks so much better! I love how you've made it more vertical, that instantly makes it look narrower and more like a townhouse.

Yea! The first one did not look right! Too fat! haha

I recently happened across the sad tale of the Frederick V. Holman House in Portland, OR, and felt the need to try and preserve its memory in-game. I started building it on a small lot to make sure that I didn't scale it up too big.

TudorMan23 26th Apr 2016 12:40 AM

It looks good but the second story main window does not look right. Try using 2 square windows next to the rounded one, see if that would look better

I am just about done with my townhouse! I just need to do a few touch ups and then I am good to go.

OMG, been forever since I've posted here. I'm blaming my broken mouse for not playing the Sims for awhile--it is really hard to play/build with a non-working scroll wheel/middle mouse button. (It was replaced about a week ago!)

Grats on your uploads, Tudorman23!

Ferg, that Holman house looks excellently proportioned! I would wager that it was originally in the Shingle Style. Slap some shingles on there and a few fancy bits/details, and you'd be good to go! And because a picture is worth like a thousand words, something like this:

Enough fancy bits and it won't matter what kind of windows you put on the front. #bitterEAnevergaveusanypalladianwindows Also, had fun recreating-ish that front. :D

Been working on this little guy:

I guess it's some sort of eclectic tudor revival/english cottage/storybook thing.

And... GO JOIN THE BUILD A RESORT CONTEST. Twill be fun! (Oh I worked on my entry for that as well.)

TudorMan23 5th May 2016 12:43 AM

Yes I agree with Cutsocks on this one! Add some Shingles so it look much better Fergie!
And Cutsocks love your ecclectic tudor house! But its missing something and I cannot pt my finger on it!

Okay, so I played about with the exterior and am much happier with it, although I still don't like the window, but it's pretty much the only Palladian window available in the sims 3, it has a counter-height twin but that didn't look right, I do still need to have a play about with the placement of a couple of the other windows though. I wouldn't have said its style is solely Shingle, there's definitely some Colonial Revival in there too, which is why I've been a bit conservative with the shingles. I was able to find a few small interior pics though. It could really do with a larger lot before I can properly finish it too.

I'm sooooo tempted by the contest, although I'm kinda busy with Uni work/coursework at the moment. I'm not too sure where I would send my sim either, maybe a nice English coastal resort town? Although that's a bit predictable for me. But I do have a few lots in the making that I could certainly finish up for that theme...

That house you've created is adorable! I feel like I've seen something very similar on the internet somewhere from around 1900/1910. If only I could remember where...

That window looks a lot better than before and yes it does have some colonial revival elements to it. Yes just keep playing around with. Love it so far!

And here are the floor plans to my townhouse: its very quite roomy! There will be 6 bedrooms and 4.5 baths!

Your townhouse is wonderfully grand and spacious, it'd be nice if mine were that spacious in real life... I really like how you've made the entrance hall nice and long, it really emphasizes the feeling of space from the moment you walk in the door.

Meanwhile, I've been watching a lot of Studio Ghibli movies recently, and 'From Up on Poppy Hill' has kind of inspired this creation:

It looks good, although I'd make the columns grey instead of white to match the stonework.
Is it possible that we could see an overview of the lot? That'd make it easier to make suggestions with regards to the landscaping?

I think of Gilded age mansions as having minimalist landscaping- a less is more approach. Go green, avoiding flowering shrubs, maybe clumps of hedges and some narrow evergreens?
