"No, Coral, just NO! That's gross for a million reasons!"
Coral Oldie, thought it was OK to... "heartfart" Daniel Pleasant! She is a Family sim, she almost divorced Herb when she caught him flirting with another sim and for... F's sake, Daniel is her son-in-law. How could she do that to her daughter? And Daniel is another... Herb, just a little younger! Duh... Sometimes I hate Family sims because I find them too... hypocritical! How do I know they want to have 10 babies and not just... woohoo 10 times??? In my mind, most of them, are... Romance sims who are ashamed to confess it! At least, Romance sims say it out loud: they like to woohoo! |
Don't be so hard on Coral! Inappropriate heartfarting isn't attraction - it's more like gossip, remembering that so-and-so thought Daniel was hot, not her thinking it for herself.
Anyway, it's not unusual for allosexual people to have an involuntary reaction or thought about another person's physical attractiveness, to feel "That person's hot" and to think: "Ooh, gross, how could I feel that!" We can't be held responsible for our involuntary thoughts, only our actions. |
"you just took the trash out! why are you doing it again?! stop! why did you just leave all that trash on the floor?! unnnnghhh!"
|
Peni, I don't want to sound argumental but at least in my hoods, Family sims not just "think" there are many times they "act" too!
For example, I saw Sarah Baxter woohoo in the Photobooth in Crypt O' Night Club with Dustin Broke (at least he was an adult, recently out of college!). Neither of them was active at the time so the first chance I got, I went to their lots to check their relationship. It was 14/5, I can't even call it a "one night stand", they didn't even have a crush. It was just plain ACR woohoo but still... In another hood where the premade teens haven't gone to college yet, Lilith had a party. Lucy Burb had aged up to teen during the previous round (with the Family aspiration), so she was invited. She is BFFs with Lilith and she saw her make out with Dirk just in front of her, so she knew that Lilith and Dirk were together. I was too busy trying to keep Daniel from attacking Dustin (he was not invited, he had just crashed the party!) when I saw Lucy trying to flirt with Dirk. Dirk rejected her and Lucy went even further and tried to kiss him. I just love Dirk for his reaction. He crossed his arms to his chest, he took some steps away from her and looked at her with something like... disdain! Lucy got furious and... attacked him (because that's the way to react when someone rejects you )! Dirk did the... honorable thing! Even though I knew he had 7-8 body skill points and Lucy had 0, he didn't fight her at all and Lucy won the fight but she went to aspiration failure (probably she had a fear of being rejected for her first kiss). So, my sims have taught me that Family aspiration doesn't always means loyalty towards family members! I admit that especially Lucy made feel a little... disgusted. |
That's why I don't have or want ACR! Vanilla Family Sims don't act like that, and I like my Sims to be faithful unless they genuinely roll a want to cheat (and I can't think of a single occasion when a Family Sim has done that). I still find their obsession with breeding can be annoying, especially when it amounts to trying to control their children, who may not be interested in marriage and babies, but they do stay focused on their partner. It sounds as though ACR interprets Family as hypocritical Romance and makes them act that way.
|
Family sims are fairly normal sims - of course they may cheat at times - the only applicable fear they roll is "Get caught cheating"!
|
BlueAlien, I agree with you about the "breeding obsession"! I mean, when a baby ages up to a toddler I have sims with the Family aspiration who simultaneously roll the want to have another baby (or 10 babies... There's nothing to stop them... a sim can always dream ) but they don't roll wants to teach their toddler their skills. That makes me furious and it happens in the sims 3 too. What's that with filling the whole world with their kids and not caring how those kids are going to, you know, grow up??? It's like they are thinking "I had a baby, he/she aged up ONCE, my work is done, now let's move on with the... project, more babies!!!" Only Lilith and Dirk in one of my hoods (they are adults but not married because none of them rolled the want to get engaged/married), they don't roll wants to have babies, they just... make them and when the babies age up, they both roll wants to teach them their skills! That's the reason why, after their first two kids, they both got Family as secondary aspiration (and Lilith rolled the want to have 10 babies after that )
Justpetro, that fear cracked me up the first time I saw it and I still find it very amusing! I mean, it's easy my little sim, if you don't want to "get caught cheating" then don't cheat! Why would they even think about it if they didn't think already that they are going to cheat? In their mind, it's OK to cheat as long as they don't get caught? Then what is their difference from Daniel or Don? |
I just add knowledge as seconday aspiration to my family sims and they roll all 3 wants to teach toddlers. I am particularly agee with BlueAlien about ACR after all these horror stories from other simmers and have only romancemod and because of family sims I added noinstantlove and justbefriends. But no one can change my belief (from year 2005) that family sims are more whores than romance sims. Back then I played vanilla and it was shock for me.
|
It's not the sim's fault if you put in ACR and leave it on default settings!
I think people are hard on Family sims because they start with certain unexamined expectations about the aspiration, and then are disappointed when not every sim who gets that aspiration lives up to them. None of the aspirations is a moral stance. To take examples from fiction, both the Weaselly and the Malfoy families were guided by members and principles that would fit in well with the Family aspiration, but the Weasellys had lots of children whom they loved, accepted, and protected, and turned that love and acceptance outward; while the Malfoys maintained strong family ties at the expense of non family members and also put intense pressure on their children, making it clear that love was conditional on their meeting certain standards. Same aspirations; wildly different moral results. Don't forget, also, that when you play sims, you're the one ultimately responsible for their behavior. You're the one encouraging some wants over others with the training mechanism; you're the one adding mods like ACR and deciding how much effort to put into customizing them; you're the one interpreting what you see in certain ways. I hardly ever get a "greedy" Fortune sim or a "neglectful" Family sim. Maybe the cynicism or the failure to foresee the results of certain coding choices of the programmers and game designers made such sims easier to get by accident than they should be; but we're the ones with our hands in the game, giving directions, locking wants, projecting personality into sequences of light and motion. Our sims have a delightful amount of autonomy, yes; but overall, what we think of our sims reflects who we are more than it does who they are. That's the nature of the beast. |

This doesn't have the Maxis scripts, so I was eager to see how the characters would react with the then-latest version of Simler90's "Romantic Standards" in place. Much to my surprise, Romantic Standards gave Kaylynn Langerak a backbone and some self-esteem. She sternly turned down advances from both Don Lothario and Daniel Pleasant (I think they were just as shocked as I was). I suspect this was because both were in committed relationships and, as a Family sim, she wasn't going to have anything to do with that. I'll have to break up Don and Cassandra and see how Kaylynn reacts then. |
I had family sims cheating - not all of them, but one or two - when I still played the vanilla game. I had absolutely no mods, but, of course, sims will flirt with free will on. One of them sneaked around like the burglar when visiting her lover, which I found extremely funny.
Even with ACR - which I find a lot of fun - I don't have a lot of sims cheating in my game, though - especially since I removed some photo booths (not all of them) - because I am not sure that photo booth understands how relationships work. Or perhaps my sims are just too busy. My married sims seem to have a very exciting sex life, though |

Maybe I should take a look at it sometime, because I wouldn't mind if my Romance and Pleasure Sims were a bit more adventurous without me having to direct them. |

Nat, don't be so hard on Lucy, every teenage girl in my 'hood has had a crush on Dirk at some point or another. She has all these new thoughts and feelings and doesn't know how to deal with them yet.
Annaminna, it's not a high libido that makes a whore, it's... a willingness to exchange money for services rendered, shall we say? |
Tunafishfish, I don't think I was hard on Lucy, I just explained what happened. I was sooo surprised by her actions because I actually like Lucy very much and I thought it was totally out of character on her behalf. Then she went on aspiration failure and I think that fact explained the situation a lot. I have read that sims going to aspiration failure (and especially teens) can act violently like Lucy did. It was Dirk's reaction that made me... ship him with Lilith even more!
In another occasion where Lilith and Dirk were both BFFs with Dustin and Dustin thought it was OK to try and flirt with Lilith, back in the day when they were in college, Lilith (being Lilith, lol!) rejected his flirt and... beat the living s*** out of him. Needless to say that their friendship ended then and there! Lilith and Dirk showed me that they can tell the difference between friends and lovers (usually sims can't draw that line!) and ACR be damned |
I say "Do it then, you idiot" a lot.
Sims really take their time a lot. |
"Now, Melissa, I'm pretty sure that you can't get pregnant that way!!!"
I was laughing in tears when Melissa Brook autonomously booty-called Josh Rushel. She and Josh are the most shy sims in my game (Melissa has 0 Outgoing points and Josh has 2) and they are both Family sims. They are kind of... "dating" each other but there are no wants for engagement/marriage. They only roll random wants "to have a baby". When Melissa booty-called him and he came, they "woohooed" on the couch... fully-clothed The little back-story here is that, despite what their bios claim, they didn't know each other in high school and Melissa didn't go to college, only Josh did. But after college, Josh has become a little more... adventurous. He is bi and he spent his college years "heartfarting" his BFF Gregory Brooklyn, having a relationship with Melody Tinker and traveling back to Riverside because of his relationship with Claire Santiago (Claire has already given birth to their baby). After college, he was the only one of his classmates that returned back to his family home because his mother, Martha (also a Family sim) had a little... accident. She thought that Don Baxter was serious about their relationship but, of cource, he wasn't and now Martha has twins. Silly me, I thought that moving Josh back home would make him happy because of his Family aspiration and he would help his mom with his new siblings but... no! I have the feeling that he hates the babies'... guts But, on the bright side, he (kind of) got the want he had when he moved back home, "to have a baby"... Right now he is surrounded by babies! But, of cource, Melissa didn't get pregnant by her booty-call (I would be sooo surprised if she did ) |
"Stop woohooing so much!"
"Oh my god, You're going to starve and you'd rather woohoo!?" "Oh wasn't expecting twins but that's not too bad, wait why's is lagging? Quadruplets!?!" "Stop trying for a baby you already have enough, if you want more visit one of you're brothers they both have quads!" And from my Uberhood "Brandi who are you booty-calling? Wait John Burb is married he wont say yes, will he?" |
"What the %@$# do you want a microwave for? You're a Plantsim."
"If you could want some things I actually want you to want, that would be great." "Oh sure, you reject a date but you'll autonomously join chess immediately after turning me down." "Why do you keep rejecting my poor sim? You accept flirts but not dates? I've never seen this before." "Stop being mean! I know I made you mean, but that doesn't mean you have to go be mean to everyone when I'm not controlling you!" "Why is the waiter mopping? Who the heck peed on the floor?" "Why is the waiter running everywhere?" |

" is wrong with you??? Father of the year my a***"
I played again in Veronaville today and I placed the Montys and the Capps from the bin. I had to put Antonio Monty and his kids in a tiny, empty lot first, to give them enough money so they could afford the house I made for them. Antonio rolled the following wants the moment I un-paused the game: "buy a telescope" (the expensive one!), "buy a bookcase", "gain a logic point" and "Benedick gets A+ repord card"!!! He didn't want to buy a stove, a fridge, a bed... No! So, he would be OK if his kids slept on the pavement and ate... insects??? But, first of all, Benedick should get A+... And Beatrice doesn't even exist??? Everything for himself??? Quality parenting, check |
Quote: Originally posted by natbsim75
If you'd bought the bookcase (a want all Family sims roll as well when you move them into an empty lot; the bookcase definately can benefit the kids as well, so it's not just "everything for himself"), I can almost guarantee he'd have rolled the wants for fridge, tub/shower, and toilet. He only had 4 want slots and didn't have room to tell you everything he wanted, which is one reason I nearly always upgrade premade adults and elders to make them university grads. |
Rosawyn, I'm sorry but I disagree. Cornwall, Regan and Kent (Kapp) went through the same... procedure (and the same empty lot) right after I placed Antonio and the kids in their new home. I happened to see Cornwall's wants the moment they ended up on said lot. He wanted a fridge, a stove, a bed and a tub or a shower, not even a... microwave (I'll never understand Fortune sims' obsession with microwaves. I always buy microwaves/toasters for poor sims or for sims who don't have any cooking skills yet, I don't consider them a sign of wealth!) or an... ugly sculpture costing 1.500 simoleons! And Cornwall didn't have children at the moment but he cared about his own (and maybe the rest of his family's) survival on an empty lot!
You're telling me that Antonio wanted a bookcase for the... kids? So, instead of... insects when the kids got hungry they would eat... books? Sorry, I don't see it that way. Antonio wanted to take care of things in a way that would benefit his own aspiration! Maybe, if I had checked Kent's wants, instead of Cornwall's, he would have wanted the same things as Antonio, given that he is also a Knowledge sim but Kent doesn't have any kids to take care of, so it would be OK for him to care only for himself but Antonio doesn't get to have that... luxury! And, lastly, I always upgrade my premades with college degrees and Antonio got his degree after the family was placed in their new home but Antonio shouldn't need the extra want slots to put his children first! |
Quote: Originally posted by natbsim75

They aren't programmed to do those things, they are programmed to provide a fun challenges for the player (in this case balancing all the necessary furniture with the various luxury wants) . If you want those wants to show up, just give him Family as a secondary aspiration. |
Quote: Originally posted by natbsim75
Um, yes? That's how the game logic works, otherwise why are Family sims demanding a bookcase every time you move them into a lot that doesn't have one? In TS2 bookcases are considered beneficial objects for children and families. And speaking as a parent irl, books are pretty damn important. |
Rosawyn, please let's not turn this to an argument. I visit this site to talk about the sims because none of my friends IRL play any of the sims games and I hate to argue with fellow simmers, so let's just agree to disagree, OK? Just to clear the situation, I am not a parent IRL but my own parents taught me how to read before I even was in elementary school and I read every single day of my life since then, so I know how important books are. But, just by common sense, parents have to take care of their kids survival first and then their education, isn't that true? I mean if you, as a parent, didn't have a food resource to feed your kids or a roof above their heads, would you care about bookcases? Isn't that a matter of priorities?
And, Orphalesion, I think that a sim's first priority is to survive and that's the reason they burn their houses (and themselves) trying to cook when they are hungry, even if they don't have any cooking skills. Their aspirations come next. From what I have understood from all the sims' games I have played, sims are programmed to survive. They also have kids and either they are good at taking care of them or not! The only exceptions are in the sims 3 and 4, sims who have traits to specifically "dislike or hate" children. All the other sims, when they have kids, they try but sometimes they are not successful and the results are either hilarious or painful to watch. Also, I was not the one who "disagreed" with your reply, I never press the "disagree" button, I just wanted you to know that... |

"This is ridiculous!"
SimHampton has a code of laws, breach of which involves prison time. Fighting with inappropriate people can result in a prison sentence. Fighting with people who are in solitary confinement counts as "fighting inappropriate people". Well, in one cell, there was a massive brawl going on between five Social Bunnies. The (single) prisoner in that cell was spending all her time watching the fight instead of doing anything productive. Of course, throwing the Social Bunnies into prison for fighting is not a practical measure. Perhaps I should look into allowing twin-bed cells... |
You got FIVE Social Bunnies from just one prisoner?

The prison is full at the moment, containing seven prisoners and one guard (I don't have any mods affecting numbers of Sims permitted to live on lots). Currently, all cell provision is strictly single-Sim, so no fraternisation occurs. That five of the seven prisoners had generated a social bunny in such conditions is perhaps not surprising. (One of the other two was recently arrested, the other is far enough into their sentence to be allowed to do "rehabilitation sessions" at a job, getting social refills that way). I just couldn't figure out why they'd decided to set up a fight club in one particular cell. Usually they either stay in the same cell as the Sim who generated them or go into a cell that is adjacent to it. The cells are built in a linear fashion, so the cell the bunnies were in was only adjacent to two other cells. Therefore the maximum number of Social Bunnies in a cell should have been three. There is another worry, though. Those five bunnies are blocking the prisoner's path to their fridge (all cells in the prison are self-catering). I might have to do that rebuilding sooner than I thought... |

Garry had invited Andrew over for the day while Gloria was at work and the two of them were getting to know Senator Kerie Hanby, who is tipped to be Veronaville's next mayor. In the early evening Garry, who is now an Assemblyperson, spotted teenager Charlie Benson walking past outside, and invited him in. (Charlie, originally a Downtownie, now has his own little house nearby on the Italian side of Veronaville and is Mercutio Monty's boyfriend.) Andrew and Charlie got into the hot tub together while Garry and Kerie played chess. Andrew and Charlie got on well together, chatting in the hot tub. Andrew got out to go to the toilet, and then asked Charlie to join him watching TV. Instead Charlie threw a water balloon at him. Andrew responded by telling Charlie a joke. Then he noogied him to get even. Andrew followed up the noogie with a kiss on the cheek, so there'd be no hard feelings. Then they had a pillow fight. All told they seemed well on the way to becoming good friends. Andrew then got back into the hot tub, no doubt expecting Charlie to join him. Instead Charlie mopped up the puddle that the water balloon had made, and got furious with Andrew because of it! . . .Honestly?! "Charlie, you do know that it was Andrew who persuaded Mercutio to get together with you? You really have a lot to thank him for." One of the most irritating and baffling thing that happened to me a couple of times:
"Why the heck do you roll a want and a fear FOR THE SAME THING? What am I supposed to do, you want it or not?!" Oh, and this jewel here: "... You know, I'm all in for the whole 'freedom of spirit' and wanting her to love your true self, but I don't think streaking across the restaurant in the middle of your date is the way to go." |
"Why on earth did I make her eyes so big?"
"You deserve to die." When an elder laughed at a baby for soiling her nappy. "Don't kiss her, that's your future mother' in law." "Why wouldn't you get pregnant?" |
"Stop doing yoga and go to work, idiot!"

"As the owner of a poodle... this seems accurate." - Another user on a Discord server I'm on. |
"No. Stop running to fires!"
All I wanted to do was take Beatrice Monty on a nice shopping trip for her birthday, but lightning wouldn't stop striking trees before she got off the lot. |
Mata Dore wanted to learn how to cook hamburgers. So I sent her out to the grill, which caught fire. As the flames encircled poor Mata, I hit pause, pushed back my chair, crossed my arms, and said, "Let's think about this a minute." A few moments later, I hit play.
When Dr. Adam Splitter came out to mourn over Mata's pile of ashes, he burned to death as well, leaving teen Steve Dore to fend for himself. I'm a monster. |
After the second of two criminal Sims on Tristan do Simha loses their job due to incompetence:
"I guess crime really doesn't pay." |
"No, don't shake hands; you're supposed to stay . . . Oh! That doesn't apply to you. Carry on." I sent Nicholas Pratt to buy a cell phone and panicked when another Sim came over to greet him.

"You shunned me out, not the song." - When a sim disobeys quota orders.
