In fact, I think continuous cloud saving has probably diminished the importance of waiting for proper saving/shutdown procedures in people's minds in general. Interesting as computers become more intuitive and easier to use, people understand much less about what the computer is actually doing. |
Yeah, the F:### and L:###. I assumed L was for Lot, I wasn't sure for F.
|
About the lot sync timer: you can edit those input numbers to simplify the readout: "Family name" and "day" if you wish. I've done it before, and it's a simple text replacement in SimPE.
|
Oh yes you're right. I forgot it has L as well - I think that may indeed mean Lot number. Maybe it's left over from when you could use it to load that lot instantly. Unless L is some kind of turn tracker as Kestrellyn says? If "turns" are different to days.
The Family number is helpful when there is more than one household with the same surname, I can never be bothered to go in and change the household name in SimPE, it's easier to keep a little notepad file noting which Capp household is which. |

@ani_, you know how you're using cheats to remodel the apartments? Those are only enabling those tools for the copy of the lot that the game is running to play this family. Neither the cheated nor the uncheated changes are being saved to the base apartment lot that was locked in when the apartment's zoning was changed from residential to apartment when it was originally built. As soon as that family is moved out (and deleted with move objects if they're still hanging out there when you play other apartments on the lot) the copy will no longer be available and the next tenant will be right back where you started. That's just how apartments work in this game. |

I'll post back here if the invisible option shows like in the photos I uploaded; and if the tank can be stocked. Thanks again. |
Slight misunderstanding...
My guess is that you're placing the overlay item, and not the invisible recolor of the tank. The invisible tank recolors (the totally transparent one you want, is my guess) are just recolors, and are supposed to show up with the recolors of the original tank. The overlay option is not the actual fish tank, so it won't have aquarium options. If put together, you'll have to access the aquarium options like mentioned in the download text:
Quote:
So look through the recolors and find the invisible ones. If those are the items you want (and not the rest of it), you don't need the other items, just the recolors. Fair warning, it will probably look like the aquarium is hovering, depending on what you put underneath. The frame/wood seems to be required for it to look attached to something. If that's not the issue, you'll want to check if you've got the latest CEP installed (mentioned in the comments), and that you don't have anything interfering with said CEPs, like a CEP-edit / default replacement of the tanks. |
Ok, thanks simmer 22.

Why is this Thumbnail showing as nude? -- SOLVED!!
2 Attachment(s)
I thought about making the a Help thread, but I don't think it's important enough. Even if the problem can't be solved, I can live with it.
A couple of days ago I downloaded these two teen Goth dresses by mimiextra5 (aka mimix5). I am currently playing Pleasantview, and I thought Lilith might like them. Initially both were suffering from the "bright CAS" problem, but I fixed that in the usual way by adding a "HasTangentArray:" comment to the fat morph Milkshape. (I've no idea why that works, but it usually does! ) However one of the dresses (Sally's one) is showing with a nude thumbnail in the CAS catalogue: ======================================================================================================================== I thought I'd try one more thing. The outfit appeared to work OK in CAS, but I hadn't tried it in-game. To do that, I thought the best thing was to send a teenage girl to a clothes shop, and let her buy the dress. So I returned to Veronaville, or at least its sub-hood of Bluewater, and asked teenager Millie Taylor to go (with her young family) to Amelia's Closet and buy the dress in question. On the way there, they stopped off at the Here and There Grocery to buy provisions. But when they got to the shop, the dress she wanted was out of stock -- not available! This is the catalogue :- This outfit property is the reason why clothes made with the original (unpatched) version of Pets Body Shop won't work properly in a pre-Pets installation of the game like mine. Pre-Pets the game used the outfit property to indicate what sort of "skin" it was. I guess later versions must know some other way. |
Is there any way, perhaps with the Charles Object Editor, to change the name of a parrot or womrat?

You can always just set it free and get a new one with a different name. I don't think they have any kind of stats attached to them like friendship or whatever that makes them unique beyond the color and name that you pick.

Okay, maybe as an old simmer I should know this, but I don't
I just built a restaurant. Why are some of my booths not accessible, and some are? What are the rules??? |
Do you have a podium in that room? I remember @jonasn (I think?) giving some detail about how restaurant layout works, and also something about these sectional chairs requiring a restaurant podium to work- can anyone elaborate or correct me please?
|

Ohay, maybe I was remembering completely wrong! Perhaps someone else will dive in and rescue us.
|
You may have to remove the sofa from the middle. The truth is that I don't remember the rules either, but those sofas tend to be problematic and only work in certain ways. Or maybe is the table. idk xD
|
According to this page, the booths cannot be built around a table: https://strategywiki.org/wiki/The_S...ife/Restaurants
"Have lots of space between your furniture. Too many objects can cause clogging and traffic jams. Have a separate room for the kitchen and keep the path free from objects Booths can be built but make sure they're not built around one-tile tables You only need one podium and one stove, regardless of how many tables you have." They have to be open on both sides for them to work. |
it's been said before that dickhurt's mods tend to be 'dodgy.' Does anyone have any more specific details?
|
The tables have legs at the corners, blocking access. Booth tables can be one or two tiles, but must have central legs, not corner legs.
|
They have a special animation with stretching and jumping into an inaccessible seat which only happens when Dining, not when eating normally or trying to sit. I don't remember the details as I rarely build booths. I looked at it maybe a year ago. Perhaps they need to not be able to approach the target chair at all like in One-Twenty-Five Cafe to do this. To sit normally, they might need to be able to approach the chair from the side where the middle chair facing the walkway is.
The furniture doesn't look visually compatible, but that doesn't impact how it functions. Their feet often go through tables. You can try swapping just the table and see what changes. |
One place where one tile wide tables do work satisfactorily with Jacuster's "Last Stand" sectional seating is the popular rooftop restaurant at The Hub in Downtown. It's been a favourite dining venue for my Veronaville teens ever since I attached Downtown to Veronaville some three months after I started to play. There they use "La Table" Long Tables, with central supports rather than legs at the corners, and Sims do seem to be able to get into and out of their seats with comparative ease. I say "comparative" because, on a recent visit to The Hub, Andrew had to resort to jumping over another Sim in his party just to get out of his seat to go to the toilet! I'm glad Andrew can do that because I'm sure I couldn't! I suppose he has youth on his side. Talking about myself, I fear if yours was a real life restaurant, I probably would think twice about eating there. With legs at the corners of the table, pressing against the amply upholstered sectional seating, I'd find it hard to get into and out of my seat, without putting my feet on the seat. And I can't help thinking that the management and owners of a posh restaurant like that wouldn't like that! So, rather than risk getting myself banned, I probably just wouldn't go there.
So, @LauraPamplonaS , I suggest replacing those tables with "La Table" Long Tables, and see if that fixes the issue. If it doesn't, I've one or two other things I might try! |

A few random questions :
https://fracturedmoonlight.tumblr.c...t-pen-a-default So I downloaded this and it worked fine, except when visitors to my lot pick up the rabbit to hold it ? Then the game instantly starts running at 3x ? When I saw that I adjusted the time back to normal. It didn't seem to have that glitch when the sim who lived in that lot, picked it up. Question : Do I need to readjust anything in my "Pets" expansion pack in the "C" file -- in the 86x folder EA games ? Did this CC change any functions in the core files ? Or do I just remove the CC and nothing is changed in the game itself ? Let me know if this question should go in the 'help' section, thanks. Second question : https://www.pinterest.com/pin/571886852695319442/ I downloaded this lovely "House End Table and terrarium" from ekrubynafitt ; and was wondering if anyone has recolored them yet ? |
I should think you can remove the mod safely. You can always send a message to the mod creators to let them know of the glitch. I've never heard of TS2 CC which means you have to go and adjust things in the game files, apart from custom stairs and lighting mods.
Booth tables - the game knows if a table has legs at the corners vs a central one?? This game keeps on surprising me. |

Package files you put in the Downloads folder shouldn't directly change any functions in the core files. My guess is that there is a bug, and most likely it's a fixable one. The creators of the mod are available and active, so ask them if they can have a look at it. You should not readjust anything in your install files for this mod. Unless otherwise stated, it's best to not modify anything in the install files (mods like lighting hacks, modular stairs, and similar, are more the exception to the rule - and then it's best to follow instructions. Best not to mess around with anything in the install files unless you have clear guidelines, are reasonably sure what you're doing, or are prepared to royally screw up to the point of needing a reinstall). |

One more question -- has anyone recolored Ekrubynafitt's SimBox House End table and Terrarium ? I tried to find where Ekrubynafitt described their Simbox House end table and terrarium, but I lost the link (it's not at Pinterest site) |
Is there a way to make more shallow lakes? Even one click moves the grid downward too much. I'd like something realistic, with edges with a gradual slope and a deeper center. Changing the terrain level after you put the water in will often drain the lake.

The small stereo with the CD rack has easter eggs referencing Aphex Twin's "Come to Daddy", Radiohead's "The Bends", and Beck's "Midnite Vultures", but does anyone know what this one, if any, is referencing? MY best guess is Portishead's "Dummy".
|
Thank you everyone for your answers! I was dreading testing stuff out because of all the loading, but I finally sat down and did it. I followed all of your suggestions.
1. @FranH I removed the extra stove and the extra podium. I thought that because of the number of tables I had, it’d be more efficient if I had 2 and 2, but it actually became buggy. Some of my customers were never served, and I’d already seen this before, but I didn’t know having more than one podium was the cause. Anyway, that’s not the reason my booths are buggy. 2. @AndrewGloria I went in again and changed all the tables to “La Table”, but they were still unable to use the booths. 3. @Peni Griffin @jonasn I tried different tables, and it didn’t matter which one I used, they were still unable to use them. 4. @Sokisims I deleted the sofas from the middle, but that didn’t do anything, either. 5. I tried deleting the booths from one side and added tables instead. This worked… partially, as they were able to use the chairs, but not the sofas, so this was not a complete solution as this didn’t end up completely functional. 6. Now, something I noticed from the beginning (I wanted to try everything else first), is that the only booths that worked were those who were not stuck to a wall; and all of those that, either the back or the side of the chairs were against a wall, didn’t work. I separated the booths from the walls, and now they work. Though, I’m not entirely satisfied because I’m almost positive I have other restaurants with a similar layout--with booth chairs against walls--and they still work. But yeah… I’m ok for now. That was too much testing and I’m exhausted |

Some time when you're rested and ready to explore again, test a premade lot, such as F.M. in Downtown, and see if their booth works. If so, there's probably some CC you're using on those lots that's doing weird things. If not, that's going to be one of those weird mod conflicts that shouldn't have any effect at all and there'll be nothing for it but the 50/50. However, you have definitely earned a break now. Glad you have a workaround. |

Two families: The Kim and Gavigan families. Both of them begin with married couples, and for no real reason other "ridiculous traditions" I'm assuming that the wives took their husband's surnames. I'll include a screenshot of my total hack list, and will add them gradually to see where the glitch is. There haven't been any pet issues in other neighborhoods that do not have the rabbit cage default. I totally forgot what the 'caged pet fixes' does ! Secondly ; The House endtable (not a shelf) and the terrarium were made (I think) by Simsbox, not Ekrubynafitt. The Sims 2 Graveyard has a repository of their CC content. Some very nice stuff indeed ! I was curious if they can be be contacted about recoloring the House endtable ? That fix tries to accomodate bigger stores where the customer has to walk a long time to pay after signing up with the register. It increases a time limit. A big store would have other inefficiencies with employees spending a greater proportion of time walking too. It does nothing in small businesses like Delarosa or Electronics Supercenter. If you have an even bigger store than the fix expects, possibly with stairs, then it will be insufficient.
I addressed the problem in a different way, by making the register clerk not react to the customer until he is close. A better way would be for the customer to enter the q after approaching, but that is a bit challenging to do while also remaining compatible with other mods. |

Is it safe to delete a pregnancy token in SimPE, or should I go in-game to terminate it?

Maybe she should adopt a child. (I have the mod that lets adoption fulfil the "have baby" want.) |
Quote: Originally posted by AndrewGloria

Maybe I'm old-fashioned (Andrew tells me I am!), but I still thought the "normal" way to have a baby was for a male and a female to get together who like each other enough to be able to do woohoo together. In Sims terms that usually means a strong romantic attraction. I'd call that a relationship. Now since she spectacularly fell out with Don, the only unrelated male with whom Cassandra has a strong friendship is Darren Dreamer, and I suppose I could let them turn that into a relationship. But I feel that everybody pairs up Cassandra and Darren, and I'd really like to do something different. Maybe Cassandra and Goopy! Or with a CAS Sim I haven't even made yet! Or even perhaps with a female! I seldom play Family Sims because -- well, just they don't think the way that I do. Too often they seem to just see themselves as baby-making machines. And then they try to dominate their children's lives -- even when they're adults. I've been on the receiving end of that sort of parental love, and found it very constraining -- "Get a good job, marry a nice girl, and have children with her! Who in turn will go to university, get good middle class jobs, marry nice boys and girls and have yet more children." 'Little boxes made of ticky-tacky!' ! I feel the daughter of Mortimer and Bella should be capable of a lot better than that! |
In previous hoods, my asexual Knowledge/Pleasure self-Sim has (rarely) rolled a want to have a baby, though it always rolled away pretty quickly.

Yep. All family sims, pretty much regardless of relationship status (but especially in a relationship, and when married), rolls the baby want at some point. It's often one of the first thing they roll. It's also one of the first things they'll roll after having a baby |
Big wants like having a baby for family sims are wants that they roll when they are at low (or about to be low) aspiration. Since sims start with absolutely neutral aspiration, that counts as "low" for the system and they start rolling those big wants. If you keep them permanently in platinum, they generally only roll wants for babies when they get married, or after they've had another baby, or one of their children has just aged up.

I've heard people claim that their sims walk slightly differently in the first trimester, but I've never noticed a difference. I think the belly at least does not go away if you terminate the pregnancy after the first trimester, which is I think why usually the option is only available on modded objects during the first trimester.
|
If I use the Sim Locomotor to make a Sim walk with a pregnant style, they do that exaggerated walk (which honestly looks hilarious when there's no pregnant belly).
|

Quote: Originally posted by kestrellyn
Not necessarily. They also get triggered by events/event trees and related wants, even when the sim is at a high aspiration. I try to keep my sims at high green/platinum aspiration, and they often roll the high-point wants. The baby want gets triggered by positive changes in their relationship status, especially if you've got a couple turtledoves getting on, and once they're engaged/married/etc. the baby want is usually the first one popping up for family sims (and by then my sims usually have platinum aspiration...). I've had single sims rolling it, too (usually when first moving in, from CAS). (I play with mostly unmodded wants/fears). |
This is my anecdotal observation, and I have no hard evidence of this, but I have restarted Pleasantview enough times to believe that there are some wants that the premades are programmed to have that they normally wouldn't (other than the obvious ones that push the storylines). Cassandra is a family Sim, so it would be normal for her to want to just have a baby, but I've noticed that she always has that want starting out (before getting left at the altar, if that's what happens), along with wanting to marry Don and talk to Darren. Mortimer has a want to flirt with Nina for some reason--game making trouble? Dina has also rolled the want to have a baby before getting married quite often when I've played her, which I interpreted as her wanting to "baby trap" Mortimer into marriage.
|
^ That's quite likely.
Also, adult family sims usually have the baby want as one of their first wants directly from CAS, but also sometimes at the point of growing from teen to adult (if it's not the "find love" want, or both). Married family sims from CAS always have the baby want (so far I don't think I've seen a single exception, and I've made plenty enough family sims from CAS...). |

Fawlty Towers? That's hilarious! I absolutely loved that show. If you can get hold of any episodes, it's well worth a watch. But what does it mean? Was it just for testing? Maybe a developer was a fan? Puzzled.

So I was aware that, while I was still at school, other people my own age were both working for a living and caring for a family. I simply don't believe that all of them were feckless. I prefer the Sims concept where teens area quite separate life-stage from children, and, even in a vanilla game, teens can do almost anything that adults can. Think of Ginger and Gavin Newson. I'm sure that some of their neighbours think that they're a couple. |

Oh, there are several ways to do that... let's just say women have several options (both in RL and ingame). Then again, even the men have (unmodded) options ingame, if a bit unconventional (and ingame you can always fix stuff with a mod, if green babies or brief "baby daddy only" relationships aren't what you're after) I don't think adoption fulfills the "have a baby" want without a mod. Can't quite remember (been a while), but I think single sims can adopt, and there's a mod that lets you choose more (gender/age/teens/etc.), so there's always that option. |

Yes? I literally listed the contexts where it occurs normally. I said they only occur outside of those contexts when the sim is at low aspiration. |

One night stand, sperm donor ... There are ways and means. I didn't mean to say that teens were feckless lol. But teens shouldn't have adult responsibilities. I feel very sorry for the Newsons. They've been forced into a terrible situation and sure, they're coping with it. But Ginger and Gavin have been forced to grow up way too soon. There are way too many RL stories where teenage pregnancies and/or parentification ruined lives. |
I was watching a Let's Play recently where the player kept Cassandra single and had her adopt the Newsons instead. A better outcome for all? As a player, I would consider that as fulfilling the want, even if the game didn't.
Here is my stupid random question: I was considering adding a shopping district to Strangetown. I have Strangetown and Downtown, so I was thinking I'd call it Newtown. Is that just too boring and uncreative? Anyone have a better suggestion? I would like something that ends in "town". |
Motherlodetown sounds way made up. However, Kachingtown sounds nice, but doesn't really roll off the tongue as easily. Perhaps if after many years, people have just started saying Kachington instead?
There's always a goofier approach: Buytown. Or, to match Downtown, Uptown. |
Nonametown.

Which recipes can use the food processor? I'm trying to figure out if I broke something, or if I'm just picking foods that don't use them.

I would guess probably stuff that has a "chop" step. |

Salad. Other choppable food, too. |
I think Spagetti. When a food processor is available, they save a lot of time by not having to clean the counter or bandagefingers. Imagine having a magic sauce-o-phobic food processor that doesn't need cleaning. A f/p takes more care to wash than a straight knife; the plastic parts are partially hollow with grooves.
