That makes sense, thanks BO.

There are 2 items in game that I have no clue what they are for, forgot if they're career or aspiration rewards. Audio Augmenter by Little Mole Inc., and "Starstruck" Personal Fame Stars. Are these useful in any way?
|
Audio Augmenter is the Intelligence Career reward. It does have some function, but I do not remember which.
Personal Fame Star is - I believe - the Show Business Career reward. If I remember correctly, it improves the Social motive of sims that are not too far away from it. |
Audio Augmenter- When using this item, Sims might receive hidden cash or get caught spying by neighbors.
Sorry. |
@Annaminna: Cleaning skill? Are you sure? Interesting!!! If I use anything, I'd take the Prints Charming fingerprint scanner from the Law Enforcement career, or a book from the Education book case. Nice to know there is yet another option. Thanks!

Can I have vacation lots in the mainhood?
I am building a big hood with vacation places and i would like my sim to have a mountain cabin apart from his house.. is that possible or just in vacation destinations? |
@amora_selvagen: Check out the Lots and Houses bin. If vacation lots also show up there while you're in your main hood, then I see no reason why they could not be used there. If they don't then I'm afraid you're out of luck.
|
The only vacation lots that are vacation specific are hotels. However, I believe what you are asking is if you can buy a residential lot in the main hood as a vacation home, and the answer is no. You can only own one residential lot in the main hood.
You could make the residential lot a community lot, and use mods to enable sleeping, and pretend the community lot is their second home. |
Thanks for the pic, BO!

I needed a character to become a vampire in Bigg City, so he befriended the Master Vamp, invited him over, and I made him selectable to tell him to bite.
While I had the Count selectable I noticed that no matter how many wants of his I filled, his aspiration meter advanced not a bit. Does this mean he has incomplete character data and I need to return to the previous backup? |
in response to post #312, might test it with another character of same type; probably within a temporary neighborhood.
a question of my own:: if the last guardian sim is selected when doing the Move In social or either wedding social, would Child and younger automatically come; or would they need to be also selected? |
The game will tell you of other sims moving in with the adult.

Obviously there are some big differences between a lot zoned as a dorm and one zoned as an apartment, but how close can I make them in terms of appearance and functionality? Like, can a Myne Door block off access to multiple rooms effectively like a Unique Separator does? Will a dorm function right with virtually nothing in the way of public spaces (no cafeteria, certainly!) Etc... you should be able to tell well enough where I'm going with this!
|
A Myne Door has to be locked by the Sim living in it.
I actually don't know if there has to be a cafeteria - but I don't think so! Reason - the cafeteria only works if you add the shiny top stove (or whatever it is called) - if you add another stove, the cafeteria stops functioning, but the building still functions as a dorm. The principle - the Sim has to have access to his dorm room/ apartment by one door only from outside - is probably the same. I play dorms with almost nothing in them - my Sims only sleep and (once in a while) eat there - they go to the community lots on campus to skill, social, etc. So these beautiful dorms on MTS do not suit my game at all. So - I think they can look exactly the same - apartments and dorms. |
But people expect a cafeteria at a dorm, it's one reason players send their sims to a dorm and not a house, because they don't have to cook.
|
Quote: Originally posted by joandsarah77
Yeah, I know, and the project I'm working on will have plenty of normal dorms on-campus, cafeteria and all, but I've never seen a college town that didn't have student apartments near campus, and since apartments don't work in a UNI subhood, a modified dorm is the next-best thing. So, if I make a kitchen (or at least a kitchenette) in the areas behind Myne Doors, the Sims who live there should still be able to use them, right? |
I forget, will any of the name-changing mods/methods work for pets? I can't think of names for my Sims puppies, so it'd be nice if I could change them later on.
|
I don't know of any mods will change pet names, but I do know you can do it in SimPe same as you can a Sim.
|
Zarathustra - try it and find out!
You might want to upload individual buildings to your Creator Feedback thread for other people to playtest for you, as well as doing your own playtesting. It's a great way to ferret out weaknesses and discover strengths your own play doesn't turn up. Like giving someone else a paper to proofread. |

If you are going to play with only one sim in dorm you can build mansion behind his Myne door (without any other access) and lock it straight and never unlock so other dormies will have not access to your goodies. For these pests you can build 1x2 room where they can vanish with Myne door what they can claim. They need only at least one bookshelf with some sitting place nearby and some desks with chairs so they can do their stupid autonomy study what they don't need anyway and at least one common shower and one common toilet if you don't want see pee puddles and stinking clouds. And dormies never clean anything even if they have 10 points in neat.
|
But will you still get whiners and feet stompers when they can't reach someone else's stove, sink, fridge, table? lol ... gotta love them sims who have everything they need in 'their own space', but still want to go into someone else's and use it.

(The meter can go down, but not up, and if you deliberately set it high then it decays rapidly). They have to be made fully playable and invited into a house before their Aspiration Meter behaves properly. |
From MATY:
noroutefail.package This is an improved version of the original "No Route Fail" that retains some feedback (the route failure thought) and reduces the abruptness of the stop, while continuing to eliminate the screaming hissy fit in the annoyingly loud, obnoxious, and generally violence-inducing voice. Now you can see that something is clearly blocked if you did it on accident, without having to constantly listen to that screaming if it is, in fact, blocked deliberately and you have no intent of moving it precisely because you DON'T want them to have access. |

That's six dormies in a single 9 tiles room A similar room in another corner, and you'll have a dozen dormies to screw around with. :P The stuff required to keep them dormies busy, could be placed in the space between those two rooms. The rest of the lot is yours! |

OK, good to know... sounds like that may not work after all, or at least will take some serious re-thinking!
Next question- is there a neighborhood view equivalent of move_objects on? Something that would allow you to place objects over roads when the game otherwise won't let you? |

Recently, I've been noticing that Boiling Oil's No Sim Loaded mod is cleaning quite a few more tokens from my lots than previously. I've been sending my Sims on vacation much more frequently ... Are BV vacation lots more prone to creating tokens?
And this is a really stupid question .... what exactly IS a token? EDIT .... Oops. BoilingOil. |
Question - when the game asks "Hey, you'd really get along with my friend Toddler New Year. Mind if I give Toddler New Year your number?" - what do I click so they don't become a contact? I remember this coming up earlier and it was a play on words. Yes means, yes I mind, don't give them my number, as far as I remember? I can't remember, so I'm just... gonna... sit here. And wait for an answer.

Eventually after a while, the green hue leaves my skin, and I'm the always-friendly BO again. Ok, so that was my Joke-to-start-the-day. Although it *is* a fact that I'm not "Boiling Oil". As for Vacation lots, I don't know if they cause more tokens to appear, but it *is* at least possible. What other reasons there could be? I don't know... Tokens are things just like memories or objects in Sim's inventory. The only thing about tokens is, that they are made invisible, because it is assumed that you do not need to see them. The information on it, isn't very useful for us, though it *is* useful for the game. They are in fact a bit like rolodex cards: each token contains a piece of information stored by a specific object or event. For example, there is a token that get updated every time a sim is abducted by aliens. The game does that automatically for all telescopes. My "Alien Experiments" and "P4A - Alien Trigger OVerride" mods use that information to change the apparent gender of a sim.

I've been struggling with that for a while, too. Because the response buttons are somewhat vague, with just "Yes" and "No". Because if you press "Yes", one would assume that you DO mind, and thus do NOT want TNY to contact you. But that's the same you see a lot in movies and TV shows nowadays: Person A: "Mind if I join you?" Person B: "Sure" (translates as "Yes") Person A sits down and joins them! WTF? B minds, and A joins them anyway? That's just effing RUDE! Person A: "Don't you love me anymore?" Person B: "NO!".... "It's not that!" WTF? "No" as the first response has the most impact, and it would suggest that their love is indeed over! If you *do* still love them, you do *not* start your response with "NO"!!! Anyway... that's why I understand how the buttons are confusing... But press NO, because even though - logically - that should be a sign that you don't mind, it actually signals that you do NOT want TNY to contact you. |
I was the one that asked about the frustrating wording on that networking question a while back, and the answer I got was that the answers meant "yes - I mind, so don't give it to him" and "no, I don't mind", so choosing no would then have the unknown call your sim. Since then, I haven't had this come up in the game so haven't been able to test it. Has anyone paid close attention to this networking interaction and tested it?
Either that way or with the answers reversed, I find the question and answers confusing and that kind of phrasing is something I'd ask for clarification on in real life. I've moved around a lot, and I've noticed that odd grammar and phrases in one place can mean something completely different elsewhere. On top of that, I sometimes have difficulty with colloquialisms, tone of voice, and sarcasm, so I tend to over analyze speech and then confuse myself further when it isn't logical. |
"Mind if...." seems to have become one of those backwards phrases like "I could care less if you sit down with me" which is supposed to mean "I could NOT care less if you sit down with me". For a while I was obnoxious about 'could vs could not care less' and annoyed people who could not care less about the subject. "Mind if I sit down" usually means 'can I sit down', not 'would you object if I sat down', but the proper response is still puzzling. The person who wants to sit probably isn't listening anyway and unless you glare and say 'no', or would that be 'yes', will go ahead and sit..
|
Well I have been clicking yes and not getting any new contacts so perhaps no is the correct response.

My impression is that the individual lot keeps the ceilings on or off depending on how it was last saved. So if you want ceilings on your community lots you need to add them and save with the ceilings on.
If Essa normally play ceilings on and it undoes itself, I have no idea what's going on. |

In an international setting, that one is even worse. The default meaning in the USA is that "could care less" means "don't care at all". In the UK, that would be "couldn't care less" - and "could care less" would mean "it's possible to be less caring" (implying the subject still isn't especially interested about the topic, but there are other things that are less interested in). "Mind if..." might hold two opposite meanings, but at least it holds two opposite meanings on both sides of the Atlantic so everyone understands why everyone else is confused... |

How can I start a small cemetery without it having to be owned? I know sims dying on a lot can't be made to community if a live sim is there, or if that sim moves out, the urns would be sold. Do I just have sims die, leaving one there to wait for ghosts, save that lot, then buy another lot and set it up, then resell it? I am so confused over this thing called sim death!
|
You would need a living sim on the lot to click the grave and send it to your cemetery.

There's an option to Make... Holiday Roast in the fridge with sufficient Cooking skill, but every time I try to make it, it says my food supply isn't enough even if it's clearly full. What is it actually? Is it some sort of incomplete food that came from Happy Holiday Stuff?

For whatever reason, to make the Holiday Roast, you need to have the Cornucopia decoration somewhere on the lot.

How many roommates are your apartment dwellers allowed? Gloopy Gilsgob... Gilsab... oh whatever his last name is, he is lonely and longs for a roommate. Strangely though he gets a debug menu upon selecting a roommate temporarily for about half a second gets the roommate and then they vanish. Afterwards he can no longer can find one. I will investigate and try to find the root of this error. More of a help question than a random one.
But still how many would he be allowed assuming he could get one. (My guess is the potential roommate is like "Goopy? No thank you. I'd rather flat with the zombie in the neighboring apartment") |
Vanilla code only allows one roomie per apartment. There's a mod by Squinge that allows you to have multiple roommates, although rent does not go down more with more roommates.

I had Max Flexor move into an apartment with three guy friends, and it was a blast. If you have roommates, smartbeds by twojeffs is almost mandatory. They have trouble autonomously using a bed, even though they are supposed to do so. If you have smartbeds, and you direct them to use the bed that is theirs (boolprop controlpets on cheat lets you control roomies) a couple of times, they will eventually catch on and start using their bed autonomously. I personally also like apthack by Pescado, because it makes you have to pay for the furniture when you move in. I prefer it when my Sims have to pay for things, it gives more of a challenge to balance earning money with all the other things they want to do. Aside from that, I recommend having many different types of apartments, to fit different kinds of Sims. I have everything from shabby to luxurious, tiny to very big. There are traditional apartments in multi-story buildings, and there are separate homes which are more like row houses or bungalows. Some lots have no communal area, others have all kinds of stuff. Gyms, laundry rooms, playgrounds for the kids. You say you like building, so perhaps you want to build your own, but otherwise I highly recommend Karen Lorraine's and Liv's apartments here on MTS. Karen has a wonderful modern style, the floor plans are excellent, and they are always very meticulously decorated. Liv's are also very modern, but in a different way. Tiny, and cramped, but in a good way. Somehow she fits all the essentials on very little space, all of it with an IKEA-flair that this Swede can't get enough of. Both of them are excellent builders, and you'd be hard pressed not to enjoy apartments if it's one of theirs :D |

Is the cornucopia that horn-like basket thing? Probably small enough to put somewhere. (I think somebody has made a giant one somewhere ) |
@Justpetro: Yup!
|
Petro, I think the only mod I use for apartment lots is Squinge's Tenants stay later. In most apartments households, I also unlock the door so I don't even need roommates because the neighbours are almost always hanging out in my sim's apartment.
If I have two families of playables on the same lot, it feels like Friends (sadly, without Gunther) Speaking of them, Max Flexor and Mitch Indie live that way in one of my hoods and they love it (they share a flat). And as much as those two morons are boring to play on their own, they're indeed great sims when they're part of a bigger group (and maxis put them in that silly divided house, when they're natural born dorm material!) To be enjoyable that way of playing probably requires additional mods though, to prevent neighbours from just using your computer for hours until they leave for work, slap dance or torture the piano until they pass out, and other similar annoying behaviours. I use a lot of anti-autonomy mods. |
Are the odds of a male sim becoming pregnant from alien abduction 100%? I've had a male sim abducted twice now and he's not come back pregnant on either occasion.
I did install some hacks yesterday and though none were related to aliens or pregnancy, I'm worried one of these has caused it. I had alien pregnancy a couple of weeks ago, so of there's an issue it's connected to these latest hacks I'm guessing. |
I think I heard that they changed it, but I could be wrong - or it may have just been with the summon aliens perk and I'm confusing the two. Maybe someone else will know more. But you can always try removing the hacks and testing.
|
Thanks, Lili975 - I think I will start with a tiny apartment with 2 units or so, and move a Sim in each. (Those two morons - hehe )
|
@WildIrishBanshee Ok, so I tested using a different sim with all hacks still installed, this time using the summon aliens perk, and got alien pregnancy twice. The precious abductions had been natural ones. So either it isn't a 100% pregnancy rate, or there was an issue with that sim - although he was ages away from being an adult and the only sim in the household, so still baffled.
The other issue would be if I've got a hack that stops pregnancies from occurring if the abduction is random but although I know nothing about coding, I suspect that wouldn't be possible... |
@Ice_Elf: "ages away from being an adult"... are you implying that he was a teen or young adult? Then I'm not surprised that he didn't get knocked up! The vanilly abduction routine ONLY knocks up *adult* males, and it's indeed a 100% rate!
|
Quote: Originally posted by Ice_Elf

Then it happened a second time. But then it worked in the same hood with the same model telescope, the only difference being a different sim and the use of the summon aliens perk. @gummilutt If it is a hack, it's something unrelated that's affecting it. I have ACR and same sex pregnancy, and a hack allowing community lot telescopes, but I've had natural abduction pregnancy with all of those before. I've double checked my hacks folder and there's nothing else in there that directly affects pregnancy or abductions. |

I use the SimBlender to make them pregnant by aliens when they return from the abduction, so I've never bothered to try to work out why pregnancy doesn't always occur. |

I don't have ACR, I have no pregnancy related mods, no hacked telescopes, and 100% of my male sims get pregnant from alien abductions. Did with less EPs, still do with all EPs.
|
Some of my Sims have been abducted the first time they go near a telescope - others had to wait longer; some got pregnant, some did not - and, yes, I think it is totally random.
(My one Sim came back pregnant from holiday once - and he was not abducted - and gave birth to alien twins too ) |
