The one key component is what you already named, that every hairstyle now has the same color scheme, so if a Sim changes their style, they don't magically have different hair. To me the color becomes part of them, and if they suddenly change, it feels wrong to me. It's not the same Sim anymore. Having lots of options in the same color gives my Sims more variety.

But, there's lots of other schemes. There's maxis match, and remi, and all the big creators with their individual color schemes. My problem with most of the creators own colors is that the colors are very washed out, and faded. The color itself does not look like hair, it looks like plastic. Pooklet colors have a life to them. And yes, I do know that hair is dead so describing it as alive is weird, but the dead is attached to something alive, and Pooklet makes that more real to me. No matter what shade, other color schemes just don't seem like hair to me.

Then it's the choice of shades, themselves. To me, most others are too bright, and there's some hue in it that's missing. Blacks are too blue, blonds are too grey, browns are too white. It's almost as if they are covered in a thin layer of a different color entirely. Some Pooklet colors have the same thing, but that's the beauty of it. There are four colors for each of the four maxis categories, that are all very different. And all of those four have a buddy in the next category, a blond that matches the black, in that they follow the same logic. I've chosen two of those families that I like. One darker, and one brighter. So in my game, there are two aspects of each hair color. You can be dark brunette with a hint of red, or a brighter kind that's more true brown. You can have fiery red hair, or a more pale orangey-tone. A blond can be bright washed out, or a more golden hue. Black can be deep black, or a lighter tone that's more toward the grey-spectrum.

The darker family is why I ended up a Pooklet-aficionado. When downloading hairs, I was always lacking a blond and brown recolor that I really liked. Then came Depth Charge and Incendiary and I was sold! And yes, the names may sound fancy, and normally I absolutely hate creators going with fancy names rather than descriptive. But because the names are so distinctive, it's also easy to learn, given that it's the same names used every time. While blond 1-2-3-4 would have been less fancy, it's also less distinctive and used in so many situations. It's also easy to get them mixed up or do a typo when naming files. It's a lot harder to confuse Volatile with Incendiary than Blond 1 with Blond 2. Additionally, I think it rather impressive to have come up with so many names related to explosives. For a regular set, I think 1-2-3 is better and more user friendly, but with a set like this that is used in hundreds of occasions, distinctive names are better
