What is your favorite building style?
What types of lots have you always enjoyed building? Personally, I've always enjoyed building beach lots, since I like 5 miles from the coast. Why don't you tell us what you enjoy building, I know everyday enjoys some sort of style.

I love to build modernist housing It is so unique and varied, i love anything like that, i also LOVE landscaping, it the best part of the lot for me
I like building cottages and land houses as well as contemporary styled houses.
And I did some themed lots with custom content I created extra for them. That was much fun. And for apartments I like the old European or modern style. |
Although, I dont build much, I love to make beach homes too.
I usually like building any kind of lot, that you know is possible in the sims 2. Rofl. And F-P, don't you mean you like building homes by the shore. XD
I love building victorian homes, but I cn never get the facade or porch quite right!
I like castles therefore I love Victorians because they remind me of little castles. I don't know if anyone notices, but I tend to make a lot of Victorians.
^ Yeah, i noticed, and they are awesome too! :D
I like building modern...ish homes. Really i don't think my style comes close to anything else but modern. But my favorite style that i can't build all too well is victorian, they look so grand and pretty! |
Yeah just a tad christine

I don't know if I like to build in any particular style. Most of my lots seem to be more contempo, despite the style. Usually I'll see something and get interested and try to recreate that look. One thing I know is what I can't make. Cute little victorians which I love, and big castle type lots just don't look right to me if I try them.
Lately, I have enjoyed building apartments as well as starter homes on the smallest lots that can sometimes include quite a lot of landscaping. Particularly with the added challenge of building something affordable for the senior Sims. I have always wanted to build some beach lots, but have never really been able to get them to look right. It'll be a fun project to try and get right for the future.
Real places. Preferably English ones

I really like creating realistic style homes. Usually I base them on real places or floorplans I find. Like many here I love Victorian style homes. I also really love traditional Japanese architecture, but I find it hard to get it into the game just right. I have made several attempts that I'm happy with, but some of my favorite aspects are a bit harder to have actually work in the game.
I love to build modern homes and mediterranean ones too, I just love the look of them all x] I don't like to build really big homes though, I like them small and functional so they don't cost too much.
I love the American house style... like this

Probably b/c my sister is always asking me to build her a house, since she thinks she can't! But she doesn't like to use any cheats so she has to buy "cheap". I have not yet tackled the beach building..yet - that's my next project! I love to get ideas here! |

Hello everyone. I'm not a advanced Sims 2 house designer but I think I'm pretty good. I love to build medium sized Residental lots. Usually 2 bedrooms 1.5 baths, and a big kitchen. My fave room has to be the kitchen. I just love decorating it. I may have only one uploaded lot but I am making more. I've just been really busy, reason for delay.
Kitchens are my favorite along with lving rooms, too. Hey stoffelsim! I have been watching your "rue de la promenade and fleurs" for a while now! So happy for you that you got a feature!
I just like building typical houses that you would see everyday, nothing fancy or anything.
Classical. I don't like modern, antique and smth like that very much. I prefer classic and wooden *_*. Dark wood is my love xd
I really don't have a favorite building style. I am really not all that creative with my own designs so I build from floor plans mostly. One of these days I am going to try to create something on my own though!
Hi there
My favourite styles to build are contemporary/modernist houses, but I'm also very fond of rustic (old and new - or preferrably a mix) houses. I'm Danish and rounded of the Scandinavian style tradition which is quite functionalist and with "clean lines". Something else I'm into is makeshift buildings with later add-ons, etc. To me, the small "imperfections" are often what makes a lot great. |
I like to bulid any types of houses! But i hate Makeing objects it just is to confuseing!
Victorian! Tudor! Georgian!

Group Housing

I enjoy creating group housing especially senior housing and apartment buildings. Now with the addition of Apartment Life, my options are even greater. I wish one of the resident Sims could be a Landlord though. (Unless they can and I don't know about it since I recently got the EP.) The style in which I create these buildings is reminiscent of where I grew up—within a 20 mile radius of NYC. LOL that means the periods of house styles run the range from Dutch to Modern! Having lived along each of these rivers: Passaic, Hudson, and Esopus I selected the Briney Fjord terrain and populated each side of the "Gorge" to create "Madhattan Palisades." |
Madhattan Palisades ... - that sounds like a lot of fun :D
I love many styles but i mostly build modern...modernish homes. I also like making simple and realistic houses.
I like to build almost every style, but I always tend to ad a little rustic flair.
I like to build fantasy and magic style of lots.Medieval is also very nice, sometimes victorian.I don't like to build usual homes or modern ones. They are very simple in my eyes.
I <3 victorians and gothy houses. I also have a strange obsession with porches...I usually make the porch first and build the rest of the house to suit it o.O
I love every kind of building, as long as they are playable and nice looking. Though my preference goes to "out of the box" houses of every kind of styles. I love them !
Guardgian -- I definitely agree about playable. That is my one absolute consistent. I don't always suceed in making them playable. Some very nice 99%finished houses have been bulldozed away because they just became too much trouble to fix the playability.
I think of my style as 'anything-but-suburban', but you can even find some of those in my postings. My favorite is house is always the one I'm working on now. Once they are finished and cooled down for a day or two, I'm no longer interested in them. |
I like a range, generally modern, posh & stylish, every room must be colour coded, and must look like a work of art.. Occasionally I'll do country & classic.
I really love old-fashioned houses, that blatantly haven't been decorated for decades. I only ever have a modern interior if it fits the family I intend to live there.
I like a house-style (basically any) that includes loads of land scaping.
I love landscaping at the moment ^^ My flowerbeds often take more time than the bathrooms in my houses. Sim bathrooms are the bane of my existence.
I make houses like the ones that I've lived in -- modern enough, but with occasional pieces of "antique" furniture ^^ And with lots of clutter. I like to make apartments at the moment. |
I love medieval/fantasy and modern lots the most
Hanoism - A blend of of Hanoi traditional antique and French colonial architecture : Antique, warm, and melancholy, with moss-covered and paint-cracked walls. Beautiful. Sadly,... they're not protected by the goverment ! They are destructed, and rebuilt (they call it improving but actually they're destroying their historic qualities) how heartbroking...
I love building mansions on the cliffs of either a mountain, really big hill, or cliff. I'm new to building, but I can't wait to get better.
I've never built on a hill or steep ground. It looks to hard for me
Boats and houses in every style

But in the Sims 3 you have everything you need to build fabulous modern homes. Check mine out here at MTS: http://www.modthesims.info/download.php?t=349769 |
Modern homes, tudor style homes (like those in Veronaville), suburban, country, ranch, cottages & townhomes are usually what you can find me building. I like them all! I tend to build what ever I am in the mood to build, which usually makes my neighborhoods look like a mess but who really cares?
I like building farm houses mostly. I guess that's because I live in an area that is made up of track homes from the 50's, and our farmland is quickly being filled up with a growing population. So I stick to farm houses because it makes me feel less urban, and more rural.
I tend to like all styles...But my fav style is Japanse or Victoran styles...I'm torn between the two
Traditional style houses. And usually quite big, because I like big families.
i like building homes , that when someone drives by , they just say wow !
Starter homes, I guess. ^^''
I love looking at different types of architecture and floor plans and trying to build them, not really particular about the outside style... except for the landscaping. |

I seem to be attracted to lots with water now, BIG houses with water somewhere and community lots, the same. I think I should try something different eh? hahaha
Flutter -- You should only do something different if you are bored with that style -- and from your intro it doesn't sound like you are there yet.
This style.
^^ And what style would that be, MCO? No offense.
Modern, Beachy, etc. Basically modern. OK?
And wait. Vlad, before you say it isn't modern for you, i'd say the following:
This is modern for ME, and can be not modern for anyone else, but it's modern for ME. OK? |
MCO798 - arn't you going to landscape it more, it needs a little more style/pop. Add some tree, deco objects, and a garden. That will make it look alot more nicer.

Lew, windows will not change. Sorry. I like them.
GoldenSimmer, Yes! Oh, I always forget it! Damnnn... Thanks! PS: This is not Creatior Feedback... (i'll put it there later) |
Vlad, Sorry. But you have been saying it several times. I didn't want to see the same post over and over.
MCO, you think I don't have anything better to do than to trash your houses? The fact is... and pardon me for being sincere... that you don't accept criticism. Get over that, swallow your pride, and you'll see the difference. Trust me on that.
Yes, okey, I get a bit tacky with it. I'll try to accept criticism.
Here's what I like to build:
1) Medium-sized modern houses on pretty small lots. Functional, rather minimalistic, with clean lines and huge windows to let the light in. There's not much place left for landscaping, but soma little landscaping details really add some charm. I like to combine different vivd or dark colours with white, when building. 2) Medievalish residential and community lots (but I have just a few in my 'hood). 3) Parks (I adore Japanese park design, and now I'm trying to do sth. like that). 4) Some quite unusual community lots (cafes, clubs) where I can use my craziest ideas, but it takes forever to plan and decorate such lots untill they look right. I don't like making traditional houses, but, well, sometimes I build them, if I lack fantasy. However, I'm most likely to delete many of them, since I find them boring and tasteless (or I have no talent for creating traditional houses). I'd like to upload some of my works here, but, well, they contain TOO MUCH CC, and I often have no idea of where I downloaded all that from... |
i like small 1 bedroom/1 sim Traditinal/Conteporary houses in bright colors
or: medium 2-3 bedroom ultra modern houses. In the Sims 2 i always built the smaller ones...but now in the Sims 3 i always build thew modern ones. hm. |
My lots have to be: big, old, spooky, fine landscaping with little unique places,..
Did I mention i love old manors, mansions, castles, sum: i like everything that isn't modern.. although there are a lot gorgeous creations out there... well i think i'm not creativ for modern houses :D |
I like creating new and unique ways of building, such as building the house really tall and500 sgues on each story to manover and place obejects, or put a gazilion diferent stair cases.
Hi gents, I have just joined this group to have some chat with brick lovers like me.
To continue on the topic I like the rationalism of 1920-1950 On family houses I also like classic wodden houses or stone ones(no rustic ones) and Lautner space age CA houses. I do not build on the sims as much as I want, in part because of getting frustated because I can't making what I want... but thats wahy I'm here, to learn how to, seeya! |
I'll revive this...
I like -Modern, basic homes -Harry Potter-style homes -Nature homes (especially treehouses) -Antique-looking cities So as you can see I like lots of styles. |
For me, it's all about modern and beach houses because I absolutely love the beach!!!
im obsessed with nature and creating homes to fit creatures
I really like modern townhomes and other modern luxury homes... they're pretty, as long as they don't lag.
I love huge castles. And downloading - a castle with the right EP's and SP's, and it is in my game
I like modern,Cottage and Victorian houses
Modern (Aalto, Le Corbusier, Wright and Mies' styles) and Victorian I totally love organic modern.
I love farm homes, Modern, Contempo, Nevadan (the homes i see around here) and of course, cheap one room homes for the poor! Everyone needs a home too, right?
I can build in several styles but I think I favor Japanese and 'California-Spanish/Mediterrenean' styles and lots that I can landscape. I LOVE Macarossi's TS2 plants! I'd like them for TS3 but I don't think they have been converted... :0( Darn! I'll have to learn how to make my own jungle plants!. lol
I Love MOdern, and very organic houses, lots of plants, rocks, water and wood, to blend in with the environment. If you wanna go into architecture itself, I really like Frank Lloyd Wright's style. Check out fallingwater if you can, its crazy, Wright built it over a waterfall
I like building Second Empire, and Farm styled homes
modern and ultraModern

Hi, here is my preference.
- - - - - Urban. Row-house. Loft. Apartments.Factory Modern. Loft. Apartments. Normal. House. CC free. Ea xis Recolors. Some Contents. Build Residential. create a 20% Community. create a 50% Small lots. 1x1.1x2.1x3 Medium lots. 2x2.3x2 i never create anything bigger than this sizes above.i'm more of the small lot type a girl i love the Urban look that it give when you create them next to each other.i also prefer minimal in clutter so i don't use CC as much. |
I always like to build modern community lots xD
Bumping.
As for architectural styles, I love a lot of them. Especially old Victorians, Rustic, Mediterranean, Bungalows etc etc. Building styles.. yeah. I usually get a kick and build a lot of homes with one style, and a while later I do the same with a different style. |
When looking at others' downloads, when it's done right, Victorian, hands down. When building my own for my game, I'm not exactly sure. My lots in the last 2 months have tended towards a mix of tudor, Victorian, and Queen Anne, I think.
I do a lot of farmhouses, and (urban) condemned brick stuff. |

Ya know, I think that might make a fun contest or challenge - to take finished, pre-existing lots, and change them over (with the original creators' permissions). Modern to Victorian, Tudor to Mid-century, Spanish Revival to Queen Anne, vice-versa and etc... Or...the challenge could be to offer up two different styles of one lot (keeping the floor plan exactly the same). The more I think on your idea, the more I like it. |
I love historical types of architecture - Victorian, Gothic, Baroque etc....
Bump again?
50s - 70s retro. The good, the bad and the .... what the? The floor plans are fairly easy to understand and there are enough basic houses that a beginner can tackle, yet are not boring. Someone beyond the beginner level can also find challenges in certain styles. The houses are expandable, adaptable (no need to move the family out if you have a 3 x 3 lot), and usually can accommodate medium-sized families. Oh ... and many are one-story, and many plans of the time don't include lots of landscaping. Admittedly, I can be sparse on landscaping ... I need to work more on that. If i use this inspiration, I imagine a modern Sim family who moved into one of these houses and decided to upgrade it, yet still keep some of its charm. I do not make my retros 100% authentic, and purposely so. I am not fond of the idea of downloading 100mB of CC because I want a fifties house or two. Some examples: https://www.flickr.com/photos/42353...57622229110201/ These are the types of houses I grew up with in my neighborhood. Yes, I am a little nostalgic. By the way, bozlove, if you're still around ... I do like your retro (or mid-century modern) houses here. (I believe that mid-century modern is the more precise name for this.) Other inspirations are the "other" styles ... shipping-container, converted commercial buildings, cabins. I also like modern houses I find simple (because really, I can't do very complicated styles) but unusual. |
