Essential Mods

There is no thread that has "just" essential mods to help with corruption that can happen in every ones game, so I thought I would put up this list.

Feel free to add any that I missed and I will put them in this first post.

FFS Director's Cut: More Awesome Than You http://www.moreawesomethanyou.com/s.../topic,8.0.html
These are the essential mods but there are many more in each set, get the one for your last EP.
All these mods is included in the FFS Director's Cut download so you don't have to go search for each one for your EP setup.

Unofficial AL Patch - Assorted Fixes http://www.moreawesomethanyou.com/s...p?topic=12892.0

BoilingOil's Mods. (Simbology is gone link removed) and many more great mods.
No Sim Loaded: Remove a lot of junk controllers, tokens, and other broken stuff, without the need for a Batbox.
No Trash Memories: PREVENT gossip and silly repetetive memories from being generated. (Helps with the severe bloating on slower computers.)
Dec. 7 2019 as per BO it does NOT prevent gossip from being generated, but ONLY from being recorded.
No Met Self Memories: Stop the "Met Self" memories without the use of NTM or Pescado's Dramafix.

Cyjon's Sims 2 Mods 'n' Stuff http://cyjon.net/node/42
Smarter EP Check http://cyjon.net/node/323 must have for a lot of Cyjon's mods.
No Auto Urn Cleanup
Memory Fixes
There Can Be Only One (Professor)

Each group has at least 1 fix that will help on corruption. The none essential mods are under spoiler tags.
Twofeffs Bug Fixes. (Simbology is gone link removed)

•Pet Pregnancy Fix - AKA Too Many Pregnancy Controllers Fix

Misc Annoyance Fixing Mods (Simbology is gone link removed)

•Skunk Attraction Fix

Pet Related Mods/Fixes (Simbology is gone link removed)
•Caged Pet Fixes
•No Pet Unlock Code Spam

Even though this is not a "Essential Mods" I think it is an "Essential Program" for newer computers and graphics cards.
http://www.simsnetwork.com/simpedia...patibility-with

Here is another "Essential Program" the "Hack Conflict Detection Utility" (Paladins Place is gone link removed)

Mootilda's Hood Checker is a must have for all who play Sims 2. http://modthesims.info/download.php?t=456523

None Essential Mod but it may help save someones game. Auto Save game mod by Aaroneous http://simmanipulator.forumotion.com/t25-auto-save-game

Argon's archtype fix. http://www.moreawesomethanyou.com/s...pic,9028.0.html (Thank Jawusa.)

Ok this is not an Essential mod or program but it is very good info need for new players.
Firstborn Syndrome http://modthesims.info/t/334945

Mechanon 3rd Sep 2014 4:38 PM

You're told to get them so often but some of them like crumplefix I always forget because I just ban her from all lots and never see her.

I'd add to that some of cyjon's mods:
No Auto Urn Cleanup
Memory Fixes
There Can Only Be One (Professor) because I get two with antiredundancy

esmeiolanthe 4th Sep 2014 3:45 AM

Select Your Cemetery (vital for when the last Sim in an apartment dies, or so I have been told): http://www.modthesims.info/download.php?t=316426

Charity 4th Sep 2014 7:01 AM

Not all of these are essential mods. Some are just style of gameplay, like No Trash Memories (some of us actually want gossip) or the only one Professor. Also, the cheesecake fix is only useful if you don't want twins every time they eat cheesecake and the annoyance fixing mods are just annoyances, not corruption.

It would be more useful if only the essential to avoid corruption mods were included.

marka93 4th Sep 2014 2:50 PM

Yes that is why I put this at the top of those list: "Each group has at least 1 fix that will help on corruption." and I made the text bold to show the ones that will help with the corruption.
"No Trash Memories " helps with the bloat for slower computers to run better.

I have placed the none essential mods under spoiler tags.

M.M.A.A. 4th Sep 2014 4:08 PM

Can we make this thread stickied/a sticky thread? Please? Anyone?

People just need to be aware that a vanilla game isn't necessarily a safe game.

Maybe you should place Director's cut under spoiler tags too.

marka93 4th Sep 2014 4:30 PM

The Director's cut is where you can get all the "Essential Mods" in 1 download instead of having to do many downloads or searching for the ones for your EP setup.

The problem is that they are NOT all essential.

Vladora 4th Sep 2014 5:38 PM

Agreed. The Director's Cut contains essential and useful mods and it's handy to be able to download them all at once. That said, ALL the mods in the Director's Cut are essential only to Pescado and probably a few other Simmers. Because no one plays the game the same way, is annoyed by the same things, and probably no two Simmers have the exact same mods folder. I know it's a slog, but read through that word document that describes each mod and decide which ones you want to move to your Downloads folder rather than dumping the whole thing in there. It's good to know what you're putting in your game. Not to mention being aware of potential mod conflicts, especially if you use big mods like inTeen.

marka93 4th Sep 2014 5:54 PM

That is why I only listed the "Essential Mods" that are needed for better and cleaner game play from the "Director's Cut".

Vladora 4th Sep 2014 6:03 PM

Not picking on you, marka. I often see the Director's Cut recommended in threads like this and just wanted to give some general advice about it to new Simmers. : )

k6ka 4th Sep 2014 11:27 PM

I'm working on my own list here. As of this writing it's far from complete, but I've listed quite a lot of stuff there already.

joandsarah77 5th Sep 2014 12:07 AM

Can I ask why nostrayrespawn is considered essential? I've never used it and like the game replacing strays I've adopted in with new ones.
Also likewise for nodormieregen, I like new dormies to spawn

I didn't even know about crumplefix, does that only prevent her going ape on sims in the shower or does it come with hidden 'features'?

marka93 5th Sep 2014 12:14 AM

For slower computer the "no respawn " mods help with the bloating of the character folder which can slow down there game.

Quote:
J. M. Pescado:
As it turns out, most of Mrs. Crumplebottom's more obnoxious, as opposed to humorous, aspects stem from, surprise, surprise, buggy Maxian programming that isn't working as it should. The Clothes Lecture, for instance, seems to occur because the "target counter" loop and the "target selector" loop differ by one key logical line ("Ignore This Sim?"), and that even when a target is not found, the target selector loop runs anyway (it shouldn't!), and thus chooses the first sim that is naked (but SHOULD have been ignored!), which, invariably, is the showering sim. She also loses her powers of X-ray perception with this, and can now only detect sims in her room. Because Mrs. Crumplebottom is cool. She assaults random strangers with a purse full of powdered cement! And that's simply hilarious.

Jawusa 18th Oct 2014 7:13 PM

I think 'alfixes' is not an essential mod.... because http://modthesims.info/download.php?t=538689 and http://www.modthesims.info/showthread.php?t=533369
It can actually replaced with 'GummiluttPhysiologyFix' and 'ah_LovePotionRestockFix' The other issues are fixed in the patch.
Of course the rent hour is not appropriate for vampires in apartments but 'alfixes' disables those (I call them) date gifts e.g. date flowers.

FranH 18th Oct 2014 10:34 PM

If you look on Simbology, you will see some mods that are actually better than Pescado's and they're not quite so old.
Remember, he did his mods almost 10 years ago, and there have been a few more done he had never gotten around to doing: Simbology

You can pick and choose really what kind of mods you want to run, but you really should check out Paladin's place to download the HDCU, which (if you don't have it already) will help you figure out what mods do or don't play well with one another:

Auto Save Game Mod

Someone was asking for this in one of the post but I can not find it now.

Quote: Originally posted by Aaroneous

By default the auto save dialog will appear every 24 sim hours, Though the saving frequency can be changed with the Auto Save Game Manipulator. Their are two interactions on the Auto Save Game Manipulator. The "Change Auto Save Frequency" interaction will allow the you to change how often the auto save dialog appears, Right now you can make the dialog appear every sim hour to every 100 sim hours(uses the grocery dialog). The second interaction "View Current Auto Save Frequency" will allow you to view how often the auto save dialog appears.

Install to My Documents\EA Games\The Sims 2\Downloads, If using Windows XP or older. For Windows Vista and 7 install to User Name\My Documents\EA Games\The Sims 2\Downloads.

The Auto Save Game Manipulator is in buy mode under misc then misc and looks like a hour glass, Costs $0.
Doesn't require any Expansion or Stuff Packs, It will work with just the base game.

Jawusa 23rd Feb 2015 3:25 PM

Could you add Argon's archfix to the list? http://www.moreawesomethanyou.com/s...pic,9028.0.html
Two of the archtypes in CAS are broken and are not properly linked to the other ages. Sims created using these templates can pass this "brokenness" onto their descendants.

marka93 26th Feb 2015 7:20 PM

@Jawusa done.

C.Syde65 24th Mar 2015 11:16 PM

So is there an actual link to the mod that will stop redundant social class townies from regenerating? If a mod actually exists, since you don't seem to have provided one.

marka93 26th May 2015 11:10 PM

Ok this is not an Essential mod or program but it is very good info need for new players.

Did you have particular one's in mind?
I was looking at downloading ACR,but it makes me nervous lol

FranH 15th Jun 2015 2:47 PM

"No Sim loaded" is my first choice from Simbology-it prevents and nukes all memories during the loading of a lot.

This is the BoilingOils' Mods/hacks page with BO's hacks/mods. Not all of them are in my game, but what there are, definitely belong there.

TwoJeffs' Page has an entire section of his hacks as well. These are definitely an improvement on the game!

Paladin did a few that are fun and useful, but the HCDU is essential for anyone who plays the game and has lots of mods/hacks in it.

As for ACR, it is a lot less complicated and fussy than the Inteenimator..by far. You don't have much to do to set it up, and it can just sit in the background..but it is useful for when you're starting a custom hood, and want to set everyone's sexual preferences-either deliberately or randomly.

There's nothing to be afraid of-ACR works with nearly every single mod/hack ever put out by competing modders/hackers.

Just a bit of trivia: TwoJeffs used to belong to MATY and was as featured modder there for many years until he decided to open his own site. He was friends with JMP, alias the "Dirty Old Man", "Pescado"..among the other names he's been called.

So you know where the talent comes from.

Not sure whether this would be any use to anyone but its a log of mods I use in my game with links direct to the mods. Not all mods have links as some can not be found but the majority do.

Jawusa 6th Oct 2015 9:17 PM

Cyjon's Fewer Tourists, NPC Maker Fix and Townie Apartment Residents mods are also essential for me.
Just like the There Can Only Be One Professor mod, it reduces the number of townies and NPCs in the neighborhood.

ETA: This mod fixes a game-crashing bug. Have you ever tried it? Mannequin sims can't give birth to babies because the game always crashes then but that mod fixes this issue. Therefore, I find it essential as well.
bloodredtoe's Mannequin babies can be born mod.

Kankritty 14th Oct 2015 5:01 PM

My special list

Mootilda (RIP, our lovely! :lovestruc )
Sims2Pack Clean Installer
Hoodchecker (Checks your neighbourhoods and can remove corruption)

Pescado
No Unlink On Delete
The Batbox
Creature Fixes (Mrs Crumplebottom is NOT healthy for your game, your sims or for her own self to become a vampire)
No Corrupt Death Memory

By other creators - Optional for your own use, but I recommend them
SuperDuperHug hider (Only the LBFRemovesocial file - stamps down the silly SuperDuperHug pie menu thingy)
Watch TV from all chairs (MogHughson - more Mog mods below)
Park inside the carpark! (Requires Nightlife - self explanatory)
Sit down with your drink (Self-explanatory)
Decorative parking spaces (Goes well with the park inside the carpark mod, generates random unusable cars)
Never lose homework again (Self-explanatory)
Phaenoh's Phone Book (The Yellow Pages of the Sims, basically. Get anyone's number, including townies)
treeag's Book of Talent (For the lazy who cannot be bothered to go on vacation to learn a dance and then go back home again)
Smonaff's Ghost Hack (Alive sims become deadlooking)
Change clothes in the pie menu (Smonaff again - this is really time-cutting by SIM HOURS and I seriously recommend this)
GunMod's camera mod Zoom in closer and see to the corners of your neighbourhood!
Inge Jones' teleportersBring stubborn townies to your lot!

It would be more useful if only the essential to avoid corruption mods were included.

I'm sure someone included this or a similar list, but I found this article (http://sims.wikia.com/wiki/Game_gui...ding_corruption) on avoiding corruption (with it's list of mods) very helpful. I keep those in a separate folder under Must Haves/ Anti-Corruption Mods. Some of the suggested mods in this MTS article DO change or "curb" the game in a way that I missed until I had to rebuild my Downloads folder and eliminated a lot of things I had previously.

marka93 14th Sep 2016 4:17 PM

I have added a new mod to the list in the first post called "BO - No Met Self Memories: Stop the "Met Self" memories without the use of NTM or Pescado's Dramafix."

This is one of the most prevalent memory that shows up in may game using Mootilda's Hood Checker program and this mod takes care of them.

Clicking on the More Awesome Than You links doesn't go anywhere, it just says Internal Server error.

marka93 10th Nov 2016 8:09 PM

That's normal so just type it in a browser and you should be able to go there.

BlueAlien 7th Jan 2017 1:55 AM

Clicking any of the links gives an internal server error, typing it into the browser gives "This page cannot be reached."

MATY is down, it's an occupational hazard for that place. Just keep trying each day, it will be back up eventually.

Charity 25th May 2017 12:11 PM

I think I found another one while I was trying to work out why a new one was clashing.

Cyjon's Ghost Hack - Bug Fixes version http://www.cyjon.net/node/188

Bug Fixes - Contains a critical fix that prevents ghosts from haunting tombstones, potentially destroying them, shredding character data and corrupting your neighborhood. Contains smaller fixes that allow angry ghosts to visit the cowplant, and fixes reversed logic that causes Nice and Neat (rather than Grouchy and Sloppy) ghosts to create messes.

Deadly Premonition 17th Sep 2017 6:19 AM

[Use Inaccessible Beds] from Simlogical has saved my life.

Peni Griffin 17th Sep 2017 9:02 AM

It's hardly essential for everyone, though! "Essential" here is supposed to mean "not wise to sim without it, regardless of personal taste," not "this is my favorite thing."

Sorry for my tardiness, but at this, the eleventh hour, I should point out that you've described the NTM a bit poorly: it does NOT prevent gossip from being generated, but ONLY from being recorded.

Saying "prevents it from being generated" CAN be interpreted as "sims do no longer gossip". And that just isn't true. With the NTM installed, sims will STILL gossip, but they will NOT store the things that they (hear) gossip about in their memories.

Hoping to have helped,
BO

Wow how did I miss this over a year ago.

Sorry BO but I only copied and paste what you have typed at Simbology.

trambling101 11th Jan 2021 12:49 AM

Awesome thread, it was super helpful as I never knew about half of these mods before and have downloaded the Sims 2 Super Collection on my Mac. I also noticed that some of Pescado's mods (at MATY) were updated recently, just want to note that for some players reviewing this thread.

Apologies for replying after a year of inactivity, I figured I should post the Sim File Share link for Simbology as the site has shut its doors and I wouldn't have found the mods if not for this thread. There are read me files in the downloads which offer explanation to what they do.

Some time ago everything was repackage and now all "Essential Mods" are in the download for your game set up and I posted that in the OP.

All these mods is included in the FFS Director's Cut download so you don't have to go search for each one for your EP setup.

If you're still updating your main post I suggest you add some of MidgetheTree's fixes to the list. She has also updated No Sim Loaded to not have any issues with the Pregnancy Controller.

I'd also recommend adding these fixes for sure:
• Sell Great Novel Personal Wealth Fix
• Photo/Changing Booth Preg Fix
• Hobby Friend Fix (I don't have FT but this sounds important)
• Drama Prof Fix Add-On
• Party Memory Fixes (conflicts with Cyjon's Memory Fixes and his mod needs to be edited in SimPE for the two to work together)

Child ghosts are a problem in a vanilla game.

You can use Cyjon's Spawn Tweaks (link in above quote), but that mod prevents child ghosts from spawning in the first place.

A better solution IMO are simler90 and BarterStu's mods. Choose either, but only one, as they both fix the same thing.

BarterStu's Child Ghost NPC Summon Fix:
https://modthesims.info/d/657223/

simler90's Visitor Child Collection Fix:
https://modthesims.info/d/623811/

Also, on an unrelated note, Cyjon's Reputation New Friend Fix says it prevents sims from becoming friends with the forbidden NPCs, so it may be useful as well:

Another seemingly crucial mod is tunaisafish's Get Parents Fix. It fixes logical errors in the code when the game is attempting to find parents of a child. My favorite part of the mod's description is: "As the function sometimes returned garbage, then weird bugs would happen such as a child thinking that it is the offspring of a driveway or window."

Hiya @Marka93 - I was just referring a friend to this list, and realized you don't have the NEW HCDU+ listed that William made.
It is much easier to use/read and a more thorough search. And, it is still supported

He also made a What Caused This utility that is very helpful too!

...and a few other things you may not have seen yet.

Thanks for the info but I no longer play Sims 2, I may or may not play again I really don't know.
(I have almost stop playing all Sims games.)
You can PM a mod and let them add links if you want to.

Marka, they are literally asking you to edit your own post, not to try to get back to the Sims universe.

This post is not quiet 9 years old. It was good for when it was started. However, I think due to Marka havin "retired" from Sims 2 and some of the given links are now broken (closed site such as simbology), we might need a new updated post.

I started playin Sims 2 a few years after it came out, maybe around the time OFB or Pets was released. Having played that long and have downloaded so many mods and CC (that some I still have never used, but that's another story) it is actually only just now that I realized that 2 mods listed above as essential actually conflict with each other, and both are by BO. In theory I should have realized it just by the name, but it just never occurred to me, not even when readin what it did. As someone who's played as long as I have only just seein this and it not stating above is another reason why I think this thread needs to be retired and a new one started.

BTW .. the 2 mods I was speakin of are No Trash Memories and No Met Self. By BO's own words they conflict (how'd I miss that *confused look*)

I do think it's time someone else took the torch and revamped this thread.

I can't seem to find the specific thread, but I remember someone creating a thread on Pescado's ALFixes and how they weren't all that necessary?

We really need a more up-to-date thread.

Reviewing the posts in this thread and knowing what corruption is and what it's not, this thread and any of its derivatives may be named "Fixes and small mods you didn't know you needed/wanted!"

There are many mods listed here, but they all come down to: Pescado's director's cut, BoilingOil, and the others. The others can be broken down to character generation suppressors, and the others-others.

I've found k6ka's TS2's recommended DLC list to be "better," whatever that word may mean, and definitely more organized and nicer to the eyes than the OP's post. We definitely part ways on what I consider a must-have and what they do, but it says right there that the list consists of their own, personal picks of mods. Whenever I'm starting anew, I use it as a sort of cheat sheet to remind myself what mods I really don't want to be playing without, instead of trying to name them and look for them from the top of my head.
