All about custom content...

To download all of the neat things on this site (and other sites) and get them into your game, we have instructions which explain everything you need to know, including how to install RAR and ZIP files (everyone can use RAR files!!):

The Sims 2:

The Sims 3:

Where can I post a request?

MTS no longer has a requests forum (and we haven't for years). We do not have any requests forums - do not post anywhere on the site asking someone to make custom content for you, as it will be deleted.

However, we do have a couple of threads where creators can post that they're open to requests - if you see a creator whose work you like, and who is open to creating something like what you want, you can Private Message them with your request.

Download manager issues

Are you using a download manager to download from MTS and having trouble? Would you like to use a download manager to download from MTS in an easy way?

Whiterider has written us a great FAQ on Download Managers, including pictures and instructions on setting up the great DownThemAll! plugin for Firefox. You may view her FAQ here: Download Manager FAQ.

"No Cookies Found" Error

Are you getting a "No Cookies Found" error when you attempt to download? If so, read the message that displays with that error and follow the instructions. For additional information, look here: No Cookies Found Error

Incomplete Downloads/Corrupted Files/CRC Errors

Error(s):

After downloading a file, when attempting to open it in WinRAR or WinZIP, you get one or more of the following errors (or similar errors):

- "The archive is either in unknown format or damaged."
- "A CRC error occurred when unpacking."
- "bad CRC ad53812e (should be c81967d4) Press F1 for help."

Cause(s):

All of the above errors basically mean that the copy of the file you downloaded is broken. It's missing essential parts of the file that the program needs to open it. This can be due to the download terminating before it finishes transferring - so you're missing the end of the file, or if there was some sort of error along the way, and part of the file is incorrect.

Solution(s):

Try these solutions in order - normally the first one or two are all you need.

1. Delete the problem file from your computer, and download the file again.
2. Make sure you actually save the file using Save As - don't use Open With.
3. Try using a different browser.
4. Try using a properly configured Download Manager.

Files are checked when uploaded - corrupt files are almost always caught before uploads are approved. The file on the server is more than likely completely fine. If the file truly is corrupt, it will certainly have been reported already in the thread comments.

White page with code instead of downloading files...

Seeing something like this when you're trying to download? When you click on a file to download, does this weird text/code stuff show up instead?

If you are a Mac user getting this error using Safari when trying to download RAR files:
  • Control-click on the file and choose "Download Linked File"
  • Use a different browser, like Firefox or Camino instead, which do not have this problem.
  • See here for more information regarding this issue, and ZIP and RAR files for Mac in general: Archives for Mac.

If you are a PC user getting this error occasionally when trying to download any files, try these steps to fix it:
  • Right-click on the file link and "Save Target As."
  • Try using a different browser.
  • Try using a properly configured Download Manager.

Invalid / Missing Threads

Sometimes you may find your way onto a page on MTS via a link, and you get an "Invalid Thread Specified". If this happens then it is highly likely the following has happened:
  • The Creator or Thread Starter has deleted their thread
  • The staff have deleted or moved the thread

Please only post about these if it is a link you followed from inside an MTS core page. This means anything in an official MTS announcement, FAQ, etc., not a user created download thread or discussion thread.

Please make sure to include:
  • The URL of the page the invalid link was linked on.
  • Which link on that page is the problem.

65535 Unread Messages (or other PM glitches)

If you are seeing "You have 65535 Unread messages" in your PM inbox, or if you have an unread PM that you can't find or mark as read, click this link. In addition, for the latter problem, check that you haven't received any PMs from users on your ignore list; as these will count towards your PM totals but not display in your inbox.

How to change your username

If you would like to change your username, you can do so by posting on the Username change request thread. Do not register a new account to get your desired name, as this is a bannable offense.

How to remove your MTS account

If you no longer wish to have an account here at MTS, you have two options:

1. If you have no posts: Just don't use your account anymore. It's as easy as that. The account will still exist, just inactive. If you have no posts, it will eventually be removed when we remove inactive accounts with no posts.

2. If you have posts: Delete all posts you've made, log out, clear your cookies, and don't return. Your account will be removed when we remove inactive accounts with no posts.

Or you can just abandon your account and not worry about it - we don't mind. We do not, however, remove accounts on request for various technical reasons - please follow the instructions above.

How to become a moderator/site staff

You cannot request to become staff, but if you'd like to know more about the process for becoming staff, please see: Who are the mods? How do I become a mod?

Finally...

This is NOT Game Help! This forum is NOT for posting Gameplay / Game issues! This forum is ONLY for posting issues about the MTS Site itself.

If you post Game Help issues here or anything NOT site related, you will be fired out of an ion cannon.
