Alright, this is a big upload for me! First off, be warned that this is my first meshing project. I'm not a 3D wizard, and I'm not really much good at texturing, either, BUT I really wanted backless sections for my favourite sofa, so I decided to just make them myself. This was kind of an interesting item to choose as my first project, since it is in fact several meshes, but I've managed to get them to work passably well - much to my surprise!
Things to note:
- You HAVE to go here and get the "Is Sofa a Sectional?" global to get this to work. (Big thanks for that!) If you don't, you'll have a backless one-tile chair and that's it. With that handy download, however, the backless pieces will integrate pretty nicely with your sectional; all pieces are included, and are functional.
- There are bound to be bugs, given my novice-status. It works fine in my game, but just be ready for glitches, in case. I do have all expansions, but I see no reason why it would need any more than Nightlife for the base object.
- The backless pieces borrow textures from the original Maxis arm and armless pieces; therefore, any recolours you have for them will be available for this. See screenshots for details on distortion issues with the textures. Also, if you just want the recolours, and not the backless pieces, they will work fine with your game as they're actually recolours for the Maxis items... but they're designed to be lower detail/contrast as the backless pieces need.
- The edges and seams are not totally perfect. Maxis actually has some funny gaps in the regular objects, so it's not entirely the custom meshes' faults, but I didn't fix 'em, either. The edges have lost roundness, also, and are not flawless by a long shot, but I haven't really found it to be enough of an annoyance to toil with them.
- In poly counts, I'm listing each mesh separately, but these are not individual objects that you have to place in a fakey way. They behave exactly like the regular Mr. Section sectional pieces do - they're one object that automatically switches meshes to adjust to and connect with adjacent sectional pieces. This process will technically work with any sectional, but you'd really only want to do it with the Mr. Section and Mr. Section with Arms pieces. Otherwise, it'd just be silly. Silly!
- The shadows should be all be proper. I tried to be thorough.
Okay! That's said. All you need for the backless sectional bits to appear - aside from the global - is the Sectional-Backless zip file, which contains one .package file. The rest of the files are recolours, and the recolours are separated by cushion recols and base recols. They are as follows:
Bases
- Blonde Wood
- Light Wood
- Dark Brown
- Red
- White
- Silvery
Cushions
- Fabric Charcoal
- Fabric Light Blue
- Fabric Neutrality
- Fabric Lime
- Fabric Mint
- Fabric Creamy
- Fabric Slate
- Smooth Silver
- Smooth Dark Lime
For more info, swatches, etc. on recolours, see the screenshots.
Whew! Well, I hope somebody out there likes this. Please, please, please don't forget the global at http://www.modthesims2.com/showthread.php?t=189428
Recolouring, etc. rules:
Well, you won't be recolouring, will you? Recolour the Maxis mesh if you want recolours of it. You may use this in your houses, stories, etc., as you please. You may include the mesh with downloads, provided they are free - and I don't mean rotating free/pay. Free only, and please note where you got it and who made it. If you start with the mesh and improve it, please do give me credit for the idea at the least!
Polygon Counts:
Single Piece - F: 648 / V: 480
Connector Piece - F: 592 / V: 410
Right End - F: 608 / V: 446
Left End - F: 608 / V: 448
Concave Piece - F: 578 / V: 470
Convex Piece - F: 644 / V: 469

This is a new mesh, and means that it's a brand new self contained object that usually does not require a specific Pack (although this is possible depending on the type). It may have Recolours hosted on MTS - check below for more information.
MTS has all free content, all the time. Donate to help keep it running.

About Me
I've been playing Sims since the first one came out, and I've owned every expansion pack since! Sims 1 was great, but Sims 2 still amazes me...
I've just recently started doing recolours and meshing, and I hope to contribute to the community from here on out! Since I love downloading custom content so much, I decided that I should share what I make for myself rather than hoard it because it's not as top-notch as so much of the downloads that are out there. That said, if you do like my work, you are free to use it in your stories, movies, lots, etc.! My only requests are that you do not distribute any of my work with or as downloads for pay, or on a site that rotates free/pay downloads, and that if you use something of mine for your own FREE creation, please give credit where credit is due.
Thanks!
