"Gaydar" is the folk phenomenon of gay people being able to spot one another before discussing one's romantic/sexual orientation. This mod grants "gaydar" to any male Sim who is "exclusively gay"; in the Sims that means who is Attracted to Men (romantically), is Interested in Woo-Hoo with Men, and is not "Exploring".

"Gaydar" is a hidden trait that all Sims get upon loading, but which only functions when the Sim meets the above criteria. If you change a Sim who was not "exclusively gay" to be so, the trait will become active. The trait is confined to such Sims because so many Sims are naturally bisexual to some degree and I did not wish the effects to be so ubiquitous as to become intrusive.

[My apologies to the ladies; it was hard enough to create this mod for one gender and I wasn't prepared to make a "Sapphic sense" companion mod before knowing whether there would be enough demand to warrant the effort. Similarly, the game allows for great complexity in sexual identity with custom genders, asexuality, and such, which this mod is not ambitious enough to aim to encompass.]

When a Sim with active gaydar is in the proximity of another male Sim with male romantic/sexual interests, he will get one or more buffs letting him (and you) know. Neither the Sim (nor you!), however, will know WHO is triggering the gaydar, so you'll still need to conduct some detective work and conversation to determine who the relevant Sim is.

The four possible (unimaginatively named) buffs are:
  • Bing! -- there is a nearby male who is interested in males romantically;
  • Ping! -- there is a nearby male who is interested in woo-hoo with males;
  • Bong! -- there is a nearby male who is uninterested in females romantically;
  • Pong! -- there is a nearby male who is uninterested in woo-hoo with females.

The buffs last for only an hour and do not persist if the Sim travels.
  • Bing gives a Playful buff +1; it also increases the strength of any other concurrent Playful buffs by 20% and their duration by 10% and decreases Bored ones by 20% and their duration by 10%
  • Ping gives a Happy buff +1; it also increases the strength of any other concurrent Happy buffs by 20% and their duration by 10% and decreases Sad ones by 20% and their duration by 10% .
  • Bong gives an Energized buff +1; it also increases the strength of any other concurrent Confident buffs by 20% and their duration by 10% and decreases Embarrassed ones by 20% and their duration by 10% .
  • Pong gives a Flirty buff +1; it also increases the strength of any other concurrent Flirty buffs by 20% and their duration by 10% and decreases Stressed ones by 20% and their duration by 10% .

While active, each gaydar buff:
  • increases Social Skill gains by 10%;
  • increases the fulfillment of Fun and Social Needs by 10%;
  • decreases the erosion of Fun and Social satisfaction by 10%;
  • increases by 10% the duration of any concurrent buffs for Confident, Energized, Flirty, Happy, Inspired, and Playful;
  • increases by 10% the decay of any concurrent buffs for Stressed, Bored, Embarrassed, and Sad.

The modifiers are small, but they do stack, in which case they can have powerful short-term effects. In short, an "exclusively gay" Sim will get substantial mood and social boosts from meeting and hanging around other "socially relevant" Sims. There are also a SMALL number of additional social interactions enabled by the buffs, which I leave users to discover for themselves.

I hope this mod does not offend and is taken and enjoyed in the spirit of fun in which it is meant!
