Default Native simming, part 3: Cattail Mats - the original aluminum siding.
Back for more historical questing...
Haircuts, sorted (sort of - as good as it's gonna get without resurrecting my little Windows laptop and teaching myself modding). The shaved ponytail looks way better than anything else I've seen.
Clothing, hey, it's not a perfect world, and with eight sims on the lot, it's difficult to keep them all wearing the right kind of clothes anyway. I'm happy with my shirts from the Almighty Hat.

Now onto housing. I found the perfect wall covering, which looks almost identical to cattail-leaf matting. Cattails, when sewn into a mat, are impervious to water, and when used in multiple layers, also provide a good enough insulation to keep a single-family dwelling warm with only a very small fire - sort of the same concept as igloo heating. This, however should really be used to cover the small, dome-shaped wigwams that my people used in their winter hunting camps. So, ideally, I'd like to find something to use as a wigwam (wikiami in the Illinois language) - possibly a recolored dome tent - although I haven't found anything that doesn't require Bon Voyage. If it's still possible to acquire a copy for relatively cheap, I'll go that route, if I absolutely have to.
EDIT - I was able to find a Mac, standalone version of BV, and have ordered it. Very cheap. Whether I can install it without some sort of old-school OS emulator remains to be seen.

While my stockaded village (can't have too high a wall with marauding Seneca war bands prowling the countryside) contains appropriately-shaped lodges, these are the size of summer houses, so it would be nice to find some bark-texture walls of some sort, as the permanent warm-weather villages utilized bark rather than cattail mats. So if you know of anyplace with a collection of funky wall coverings, lay it on me.

The other housing-related quest I'm on is for doors. Traditional Native houses for the most part didn't have them, but to keep the drafts out would hang a buffalo robe, or later, a wool blanket over the doorway. (see the above photo from one of my living history events) While I could just hang a curtain over a doorway, my sims have the habit of sleeping wherever the hell they want to, whereas I'd prefer if they could be kept to their own beds. Communal living is okay... up to a point. So... curtains that function as doors (in other words, that can be locked), or doors that resemble blankets, is my next goal.

Finally, the 18th-Century outdoor kitchen... I have a great garden going: pumpkins, corn, etc. and some trees that drop nuts and fruit to be picked up - even persimmons! I have a hunting package from PlumBob Keep that spawns deer and bears every so often. Although the butchering actions don't work (I may be missing a key package), the carcasses can be used to stock the fridge. My incinerating trash pit works great, so there's no need for a dishwasher. I think I've located a cellar-type fridge that'd be pretty innocuous-looking. I'm having problems with the stove part of the equation. After extensive searching, I've found a smattering of campfires that purport to function as stoves, but none of them work especially well. MedievalSims has some cauldron things that supposedly can hang inside a deco fireplace, and if I could only find an invisible recolor of the fireplace, blah blah blah.... Mostly, these things can only grill, and some are only good for burning marshmallows. I had one that could at least roast potatoes (and inspire fireside guitar-playing), but it kept causing errors so I had to delete it. So... if someone has found a plain, campfire-looking object that they have successfully used as a stove, to make all the things you normally would in a standard indoor kitchen, please let me know which one it is. As it is, I have my cooktop and fridge concealed behind a row of sunflowers and tall grass, which works for now.

Thanks to everyone who's helped me out so far! I look forward to seeing anyone's thoughts on the above puzzlers.

Have you tried the Castaway items? There is a door that is made of skin and some wall textures that might work. A lot is bamboo, but perhaps you could recolour things to make your own suitable?

There are also a lot of 'native' items in there and Chris Hatch also made the fire pits useable:

Worth a look maybe if you haven't already.

I hadn't looked too closely at that bunch, since it was all in one lump and I couldn't see what was in it, but I guess it wouldn't hurt to download it and take a peek. I'll let you know how the fire pits work. Thanks!

Otherwise there is a database for Castaway Stories conversions here. That way you could look at most items separately and decide which you want for your game.

Although the only link for wall coverings seems to be for this build bundle. So I’m not sure the database is that helpful to you. I guess at least for the furniture you could just download what you like.

This is most definitely all in a lump and a lot won't be period appropriate, but there are definitely tents and a fire you can roast meat over, among other stuff that might work.

Edit: You know what would definitely work? Actually providing a link lol. http://www.medievalsims.com/forums/...php?f=60&t=3866

Hey, that's great - always good to see what things look like first.

Wow, that is a lot. I'm sure I'll find something to use, and I was thinking of doing a Rome neighborhood at some point too. Thank you so much!

There are these conversions:
https://hodgekiss.tumblr.com/post/6...nts-let-me-keep
https://hodgekiss.tumblr.com/post/6...ey-all-here-are

Includes a range of primitive-style tents and shelters. Some functional, some deco. Might be suitable?

My new downloads are on my Pillowfort

Those look cool. I don't have BV, but maybe I could find a copy, or use otherwise these in some fashion. Maybe the frames would be good for an "abandoned village" community lot of some sort. Thanks!

Apologies for stirring up my old dormant post, but I noticed this thread was still open, despite my having found the solution.

These bamboo walls (2nd row left) are a dead ringer for the cattail-leaf mats used to cover winter lodges in Midwestern Native America. Now I just need someone to come up with a way of getting this pattern onto a curved wall segment.

And these matching bamboo floors (3rd row at left) are what I'm now using for the domed roof of these lodges, as the same mats would be tied onto the sapling framework, to cover both the sides and top, to keep out the rain and snow.

I never wears no clothes;
I wraps my hair
Around my bare,
And down the road I goes. -Shel Silverstein

Are you going to upload any of these houses? Some of this stuff looks cool.
