Issues with SimCategorizer and SimOrganizer [SOLVED]
EDIT: i did not have the vb6 runtime files installed . so if you are having these problems, that is probably the reason!!

i CANNOT seem to find answers anywhere for either of these programs, and it is slowly driving me crazy!!

so i made a thread a few days ago talking about SEOM, and i was given recommendations for alternate programs! but the problem is that these programs seem to keep malfunctioning and throwing errors at me

SimOrganizer has this issue where when i click on one of my object files, it just flat out doesn't recognize it, for some reason?? it says that no objects are found in the file in question, and any files it DOES find don't have ANY categorization or properties to them! pictures:

then, SimCategorizer just does This whenever i try and use it, no matter which objects im looking at

are my items just in the wrong folders?? is it the items themselves??? is it my computer??? are the programs just old and broken?? im slowly losing my mind

I have problems with SimCategorizer in that it won't save without crashing, but I think I only had loading issues if I didn't run it as administrator (Windows 10). I don't KNOW if that's your issue, though, but you could see if it changes anything, if you aren't running as admin.

By the way, where did you install your game? (hoping it's not 'that' case)

**Nevermind, SimCategorizer doesn't work for me, too(it's not about installation folder or running as administrator).

it's at least good to know those can be ruled out, but then i have to wonder if it's somehow the cc's fault? but the items show up just fine in-game, and in the proper categories... so i'm at a loss

...It turns out my crashing issue was about not running it in compatibility mode. D'oh! Posting that in case that's helpful to anyone. (Windows defaulted to compatibility with XP Service Pack 2 though I think it's likely SP3 would also work since I had SP3 back when my Sims install was on an XP computer.)

(I couldn't figure out a further reason a file wouldn't load in the program, though--I saw a similar error on some files it could see... but that's because they're not iffs that actually work with the game (they're beta objects (as in objects FROM the beta, not ports for the final game) I threw into a folder in Downloads just so a DIFFERENT program could see them for something specific). I don't know if that suggests "it's the objects' fault" because while for these that's almost definitely the reason SimCat can't work with them... the actual game can't see them either.)

A short rant: We really need something like SimPE for this game(one tool for editing & categorizing objects, editing sims and households, and so on). At this time, it looks like SE Object Manager is the only working one.

Sim Categorizer is working just fine for me.

The README that comes with the program notes that it requires the Visual Basic 6 runtime files, so make sure you have those installed before trying to use the program.

I've made some mods for The Sims 1 -- yes, The Sims ONE :-) -- which you can find at http://corylea.com/Sims1ModsByCorylea.html

Having VB6 runtime or something never fixed my issue with SimCategorizer. As for me, it seems like SimWardrobe programs dislike me or Non-English Windows.

**By the way, does anyone have list of Room Flags, Function Flags, Category Flags? Perhaps I should use IFF Pencil 2 to edit categories...

Yes, of course I believe you. :-) That's the purpose of README files, after all, to give you the information you need to make the program run. That's a useful thing to remember, for the next time a program doesn't seem to work -- check to see if the program comes with a README, and if so, er, READ it. :-)

It's true that SimWardrobe programs assume that the path will be in English; a user called Striking_Sir on Reddit reported that they could get the programs to work by using Locale Emulator to make it seem as if the path was in English; you can read what they said about that at https://www.reddit.com/r/sims1/comm...nt=share_button

If nothing else, you could see if Transmogrifier will work. As long as the object is editable (which doesn't require it's cloned, just that it's not read-only), you can at least edit top-level rooms/categories (i.e. not the subcategories available in later expansions).

Another way to do this with IffPencil2 (which is the method I used when I needed to recategorize something before I figured out what was wrong with SimCategorizer) is to find an object with the categorization you want, open it in IffPencil2 to find its numbers and use them on the OBJD of the object you're changing. (Granted, having a full list of these categories just handy would allow for the same thing... *goes searching*)

Try these two links (first has the top-level categories, second has the HD+ subcategories):
