Default Sims 5 CANCELLED?
Soooo an article recently came out from EA that the sims 5 is NOT happening...

In the article they said they want to expand the sims 4, and don't want to ruin people's 10 year progress in the game.

Thoughts?

"Ten years progress" This isn't TS2 or even TS3 where that even matters... TS4 I've played for 10 years insofar off and on and I am barely attached to any of my Sims. They just don't have that "magic" of earlier titles.

I don't think they ever announced a Sims 5 did they? Renee always seemed to be something seperate (they announced that under pressure from Paralives and LifeByYou).
(Why do I keep thinking of Renee as Renesmee )

I will choose a path that's clear- I will choose free will

No they did not, but people were talking about it all the time. I was one of those who believed that it was a real project and I was genuinely interested in it; shows how stupid or, at best, how naive I am. What surprised me was that the latest news did not disappoint me at all; my first thought was that we are lucky to escape all the drama that would inevitably come with TS5.

I mean was Sims 5 ever in development to begin with? We just assumed Project Renee was it, but it never made sense for it to be the next entry in the series. EA wants to keep TS4 running alongside Renee. In what world would the next main line entry compete with the old game? I get EA wants all the money in the world but still

I think it's possible Sims 5 was in development at some point but maybe never got past the planning stages.

A while ago we were getting news that EA was looking at Roblox with $$ in their eyes. Like I said back then, they want to be Roblox. They see money in interactive online play where people can create anything and sell it in their marketplace so they can get a cut. That's what they want The Sims 4 AND Project Renee to be. To them, Sims 4 is likely just the single player version of Project Renee.

When Sims 4 becomes too old and they no longer wish to support it, they'll just push and transition people to adopt Project Renee. This is why they won't just drop Sims 4 yet, Sims 4 is their lifeboat to eventually get people on Project Renee. Developing Sims 5 would likely hinder this goal since they want to be the next Roblox.

I hate roblox. I hate how it infringes on the copyrights of other entities. I hate how unsafe of an environment it is for kids. I hate its monetization practices. I wish it would be tossed into the sun along with its creator(s).

Right now, I have 103 hours of play time accumulated and I still haven't grown accustomed to them. Besides, the last time I played with them was back in July this year, but life got in the way. And before that, it was during the former half of the COVID-19 pandemic that I last played with them.

Still, as they stated, EA didn't want to have people start all over again nor were they going for a 5th edition.

I still am unsure about Project Rene.

Somehow, all of this...Sounds sketchy, for some off reason.

Exactly. Sims 4 never captured my imagination like the previous titles did. And TS4 is old at this point. As far as I know, it is basically being held together with duct tape at this point as it's become so buggy with all the packs added, and they don't even fix bugs before they add more packs and more bugs.

I felt like it was going to be weak anyway considering what TS4 turned out to be. After 10 years, enZOI is showing what a life sim can be with current technology. It has it's problems(IMO) but likey will be better than what TS5 would have been. I think that's why it was cancelled.

In theory, EA should be by far the most qualified to make a new Sims game. In practice, most (or all?) the people associated with TS/TS2/TS3 have left the company, some a very long time ago; some have resurfaced for a moment (Rod Humble in LBY) and others seemingly disappeared. What EA is left with is the TS4 crowd so, like it or not, continuing with TS4 as long as somebody is willing to buy the next DLC is the most logical way ahead for them.

So it's really up to players: as long as they will keep buying, EA will keep selling; if buyers won't buy anymore the game will disappear and EA will have to think of something new. Probably Sims The Movie 2.

The fact we got such a huge update with recolored content for those who enjoy building houses\homes probably is part of the prelude to whatever new content, in terms of add-ons, that they're preparing to roll out, regardless of survey votes or rumors.

As far as things are going, I am okay with the reprieve from a 5th edition. I seriously need to take a break and play video games after all I have been working on in terms of the world situation.

Sometimes adulting makes you really wish you had a fulfilled childhood and were allowed to imagine what life could be. Thing is, I can imagine having more time to work on building a world than being hyper vigilant.

I would love to play with my characters and set up their worlds. Besides, if I was to compete with the big boys of life sim God games, my work would be a labor of love that is a love letter to the genre. I would unabashedly find ways to make people feel like they can be anywhere in space, time and dimensions...

Of course, with the Sims 4 update being more of a free add-on (and remember, the saying "you get what you pay for" applies to the add-on in the update) and not much else, it is hard to get excited unless they have a release date ready for anything worth paying for.

As far as The Sims 4 add-ons, I usually wait for a sale to happen because I can easily get a better deal, especially when something is half off at most.

Then again, experiences with such games could lead to an ultimate life sim. I probably would have to figure out the "if, then" language of coding to get a better grasp on computers. I may be able to operate them, but I'm sure as heck can't code!

I still find something about it to be unable to put my finger on.

For some reason, I an relief TS5 isn’t happening. Because let’s be real: why wiuld anyone expect TS5 to be the Sims FIVE? Sims already lost its magic, charm, and from TS3 onward we shown it’s not gonna be a huge leap without sacrifises made. We don’t even know what TS5 was promising o have a vision that would get us hook much like Open World Concept. I rather wait on another company to get its take and chance or remake the wheel in this long ongoing monolopy. Only EA had a headatart with The Sims; Already ongoing competition are struggling to exceed simmer hungry demands and expectation. You can’t win with against strong and intimidating opponent that holds his feet despite severely beaten.

P.S. Sorry for my bad english.

The way they announced Project Renee certainly made it sound like it would be Sims 5. But I think EA decided they'd rather not go to the expanse of developing a new flagship Sims game while people are happy to pay for kits & whatever else they churn out for 4. Wouldn't surprise me if they put it off until something permanently breaks 4, which depressingly seems more and more likely.

Did "Why EA is bad?" thread got deleted by mods? Can't seem to to find it, so I'll leave a note here:

On Threads, I found out The Simpsons Tap on will be removed from the app store, which is possibly an EA possession from what I read. Much like with TS5, fans are disappointed that they shelled money. Which, is to be fair while it's not fair and nice for a company to pull that shit up, but I'm a bit baffled consumers didn't come to mind to think that the thing they spend thousands of money for virtual items on live service to diaappear one day if a game studio decides or gets backrupt to support a game. TS4 should also consider this: what if one day EA decides to pull out TS4 out of the shelves, while you knowing you spend 1000euros to pc games DLC. If some portion lose their copy of the game (say computer breaks), I don't suspect the same equal numbers would be moral to get the game through illegal means (let alone what'a hassle/diffculty it requires to find one). Does having The Sims 4: Modern Menswear Kit makes anyone lives better when you spend 5 dollars for some virtual mens clothing? and I don't even wanna go about Love Struck, if said expansion packs of quality continue to be released and you spend on it full price.

P.S. Sorry for my bad english.

It's not complicated at all "to get the game through illegal means"; I checked. One thing caught my eye: the latest upload (up to and including Lovestruck) is 60.32 GB.

Never thought of it until now: how much space does a (more or less) complete game take?

#18 Old 29th Sep 2024 at 6:08 AM
60gb is pretty small for modern games these days.

Yes, but that's a .zip file. How much space does it take on the disk?

Just for comparison: I bought Tiny Glade on the day it came out, September 23 (I knew what it was like because I had played the demo); not in early access. Since then it has gathered 4721 (overwhelmingly positive) reviews; 5501 people playing ATM. And how much space did this monster of a game grab on my disk? 1.80 GB.

#20 Old 30th Sep 2024 at 2:10 AM
I don't think Tiny Glade is very comparable imo.

A modern game such as Baldur's Gate 3 require 200gb+.
Inzoi is speculated to be 60gb+

Sizes of other games that came out in 2014:
Dragon Age: Inquisition - 26gb
Dark Souls II - 12gb
The Far Cry 4 - 30+gb

Unfortunate there aren't actual simulation games to really compare The Sims to. I expect Paralives will be a little lower, maybe about 20 to 30gb because of the graphics they went with. But anyway.

You can always compare quality. Tiny Glade is a game that does what it set out to do extremely well. TS4 is a game ... well, you know the rest. Also, Tiny Glade is modern, actually far more modern than TS4.

But, as they say, it's not the size that matters. TS4 is very good at building - I think it's its best side - and so were all the other Sims games; it still shows what their foundation was. Tiny Glade is very good at building as well, but in a very different way. Build a balcony in TS4 and you need that and that and that, and probably that and that as well. Build a balcony in Tiny Glades and all you have is the basic house building tool and your imagination; it constantly pushes you over the lines. I was hoping that TS5 would be like that but there will be no TS5.

I understand Tiny Glade is modern, I was referring it its complexity in comparison (and that it is also an indie game. So nice to see indie games making it out there). I wouldn't consider Sims 4 modern though. If Sims 5 were a thing, I expect it'd be way more than 60gb.

I beg to differ. It’s easier for anyone to buy and install, then downloading a bunch of viles and doing… you know what… to make the game open without errors popping. If it were that simple and easy, Simmers wouldn’t be begging EA to re-release TS2 and TS1. Keep in mind not everyone is tech savvy and just wanna play a game casually from a hard day of real life business.

P.S. Sorry for my bad english.
