I listen to full albums all the time- I am a vinyl record fan (been collecting them all my life) and so listen every day to complete albums from start to finish. Misplaced Childhood is a lovely album, I have that one on vinyl (my original I bought back when it was released) as well as cassette, and I have a digital download of the remastered CD which has some bonus tracks on there too. I always think that it's nice to hear songs in the context of the album rather than shuffled or singly. My favourite all time album is Permanent Waves by Rush.

My dad was a fan of Rush, I think his favorite song might have been "Closer to the heart". He always had the radio on or playing something from his CD collection so I've most likely already heard this album, although I barely recognize the names of the songs...

Paul Di'Anno died yesterday, he'd been very ill for a long time with lymphedema, and even performed from a wheelchair.

Now I have also heard it, read it on teletext last night.
I've never been a Maiden fan, but it feels strange when these stars die, they weren't supposed to die.
Not to be morbid, but I wonder who's next...

Anais Mitchell is my darling, she did another album called 'Child ballads' which is also pretty amazing. (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VZG...jtKlrOELGtUnlxm)
What genres of music do you like? Besides classic rock?
(Sorry for hijacking the thread, it's been a long time since I met someone to talk music with.)

It's sad, all the musicians who I thoght would be around forever are leaving us one by one.

I like all sorts, rock is my main man but I also really love electronic stuff (like Gary Numan, Jean Michele Jarre) and jazz funk (Level 42, Casiopea) plus anything from classical through jazz through new wave and metal and some pop. My basic requirements are that the music has to have some complexity- not a huge fan of techno or disco where there is a lot of repetition (I like to listen to music, not dance!). There are a few exceptions though. And I'll give anything a chance!
Anais Mitchell sounds really good, not my usual stuff but very pleasant!

I don't know what you mean by complexity. I tried to look it up, but my brain can't seem to process what I found.
(Because then you'd only be listening to intricate pieces of music with such depth that people make hour-long videos about them on YouTube. That can't be right, can it?) I also searched the artists/bands you listed. I think I might like Casiopea.
I have a thing for lyrics and how it interacts with the music. But I can't claim that the music always has depth, meaning or complexity (PUSA is one of my favorite bands https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aXwzSPc0FoA).
Well done, by the way, to be able to sum up your favorites like that. I don't think I could do that.

I haven't found anything similar to Anais Mitchell, but I haven't really looked either. (Hadestown has been turned into a musical and I really want to see it!)

I don't necessarily mean that the song has to have a meaning (although I really appreciate good lyrics). More, I mean that the song needs to have variation- in beat or rhythm or lyric, that adds to the track and makes it a piece of art rather than something to have on in the background. My husband likes disco and soul and motown best of all, but what he likes to do is to dance to music, whereas I like to put my headphones on and sit in a darkened room and let the music consume me. So he wouldn't be listening to prog rock if he wanted to dance, and I won't be listening to the extended remix of 'get down and boogie' through my stereo! It depends on what you want from music really, and I really love to be surprised and mystified and awestruck and admiring of the musicians. An autotuned singer with a repeated drum machine beat isn't going to do it for me, but of course, no-one at the nightclub is listening to Yes!

Thanks for the clarification! I'm a chronic overthinker And I also think you're kind of right about "the song needs to have variation".
I listen to music to feel something (in an non-dramatic way) and then anything can work, even to dance to.
(The "Big Generator" song is played from time to time at my own kitchen nightclub )
