This user has the following games installed:

Sims 2, University, Nightlife, Open for Business, Pets, Seasons, Bon Voyage, Free Time, Apartment Life
Default [solved] Pet forever stuck with the 'runaway' status

Hi everyone!
I haven't found a similar thread, so I decided to make a new one.

My Sim's pet went missing, and when another Sim called and promised to return them.... well, they never came, and my pet was stuck as a runaway, forever.
I didn't know how to fix this issue, so I used Simlogical's teleporter to add the runaway pet to another household, and then back to my Sim's.
It worked.... kind of. The pet is selectable again and lives with her Sim again, but... now my pet has the "runaway" icon next to its picture, and it won't go away.

I tried to give up the pet for adoption and then adopt it back, but it didn't help. I also tried to summon the pet to another household (as a visitor, without adding them to that family) and calling the owner, but it also didn't help.

Some other forum suggested using the Batbox, but the "Fix runaway pets" option does not appear.

Is there anything else I can try?

You could try one of the teleporter mods and see if you can get the pet back.

The thing is - my pet is back at my Sim's place, selectable and playable. She just has the "ran away" status next to her picture, and I can't get rid of it.

Maybe trying deleting with move_objects on and reload the lot? Not sure what effects does have on pets, so I'd definitely back up first.

Have you tried teleporting the pet onto another lot, add in to the family adding it then adding it back to the original family? Has it got a job? Just wondering it the icons for working/learing new command replaces the runaway one? (sorry, I don't play with Pets so my memory is a bit rusty)

Yes, I mentioned this in the original post - I have added the pet to another family and then back to the original family.
The pet doesn't have a job and cannot be hired, since the game considers her to be away.

Yes, my point was trying to force the game to add it to the family without cheats this time... Try to move the pet somehow to the lot bin and then adding it again to the family - maybe have a Sim move out with the pet (if this appears in the list of family members that can move out with them) or maybe evicting the family all together.

My guess would be since the pet is still technically run away and has never come back "the right way" there's still a flag somewhere that consider it runaway... Wouldn't know where to look but maybe there's something in SimPe.

I did try to move the family into the Family Bin and then back, but it didn't help. Even tried to move them to a brand new empty lot to see if anything changes (it did not) :C

I don't know why I haven't thought of checking SimPE I couldn't find anything, unfortunately... Cleared all tokens from the pet's inventory / memories, also didn't help.
I made a backup of my 'hood and turned the pet into a human and then back into a cat, which I'm pretty sure is dangerous to your save file... When the game treated her as a human, she didn't have the "runaway" status anymore (pretty sure human Sims cannot get it), but as soon as I reverted her back to a cat, the status reappeared :C

Edit: trying to make the pet into a ghost and then resurrecting them, also does not help.

Had the pet taken away by the Social Worker, adopted them back - still stuck with the "runaway" status.

Sadly none of these methods worked.
I tried to remove all memories / tokens from my pet, but it didn't help. Similarly with forcing errors on everything.

I was reading the other posts you linked and I thought of suggesting you to give them a job with SimPE and see if that fixed it... It didn't for the other player, maybe try yourself, if you haven't already?

I've run out of ideas, if anything at least it's playable in your house

Have you checked other sims on the lot memories for this token?

Is the sim that found the pet in your hood and if so check the memories and see if they may have the token.

That is just an UI icon like "at work" or "jogging". But it is not in Sim UI Icon Flags.

Look at stack object's person data 0x54 "Person Data Flags 1". Flag # 8.

I don't have any mods for settign that, but you can do it in Sim PE. See that flag 8 means that the value is xx8x.
