Default Ideas for Floor-sitting; Sleeping/sitting platforms for Native lodges
Hi ho. I was talking with Porkypine about how to accomplish certain scenarios where you'd want your Sims to be able to sit down on the floor: picnics, couch overflow during TV time, sitting around a campfire, or just for mealtimes in cultures that don't really use chairs. To my knowledge, Sims will not sit on the ground unless they're reading to the kiddies, playing with toys, hanging out with their teen friends, or doing some diary-writing. For my outdoor-living Native Sims, I've used chairs that look like tree stumps, but... that's not overly realistic. The solution would be to buy a sort of chair that had no legs, where the seat rested on the ground. Or, perhaps, some strange rug/mat exists that Sims are able to sit on. I've seen enough Sim yurts and other sort of tents out there, so it would seem to make sense that someone would've created a ground level sit-able object. Anyone have one that they like?

Another seating option that I had tried at one point to figure out was how to build a bench-type thing, that would be built into the walls of a house - or at least give that appearance - that Sims could both sit and sleep on. In my screenshot is a reconstructed Native longhouse that I helped build; the width of the platforms means they were designed to be slept on perpendicular to - rather than parallel with - the center aisle, as you may be able to see from the student sleeping bags on the platforms. While they wouldn't work quite like that, there's modular bench seating of various models, which Sims will use for both sitting and napping; unfortunately, napping is a poor substitute for actual sleeping.

I really can't picture a way to accomplish the sort of platform I'm thinking of, so... as an alternative, is there a way to get Sims to go fully to sleep on couches? Or to make napping have the same effect on the motives as real sleeping?

Adults can hang out together, it's not just a teen interaction.

There is an invisible sofa which is set at the height of a sim bed, it can be combined with beds to allow sims to both sit and sleep on the same surface. They will clip, but you can just tell them to stop: https://modthesims.info/d/476970/im...ed-10-2012.html

You could combine that with these shiftable cabin beds: https://simlogical.com/sl/Sims2Page...2_Shelfbeds.htm

Linked there are OMSPs for seating. But if you put them on the ground, your sims' legs will disappear into the ground.

This expands the Greek House self-interaction for "sleep on floor" to all lots and all sims. http://www.cyjon.net/node/236

If the link doesn't work go through google "Cyjon More Floor Sleeping".

This is a pile of pillows which acts like an armchair: https://sims2.aroundthesims3.com/ob...tdoors_004.html

Maybe a modded version of the tea table from Bon Voyage? There is an invisible one here: https://modthesims.info/d/645854/ta...er-add-ons.html

Some of the Castaway Stories converted items might work like the Lean To Shelter. http://www.moreawesomethanyou.com/s...ic,10993.0.html (The Leaf Bed apparently clashes with some mods)

Maybe this sleeping bag? https://pforestsims.tumblr.com/post...eeping-bag-edit

Check out my thoughts on Psymchology (Sim Psychology) - latest post is on the main six aspirations.

Adding in that kids can hang out sitting on the floor, too
You can always put out some smaller rugs as blankets, and have them hang out in that area.

There's a cushion here, but I think it just has lowered chair animations:

If you'd had AL, I'd probably recommend the shiftable invisible sofa/chair. There are regular invisible chairs/sofas/loveseats/beds, too (nice to pair with deco that isn't sittable).

Atavera's baby blanket for little ones could come in handy (lowered crib, plus various floor mattresses). Plus invisible bedding to be used with any crib-repo'd item.

I thought that the BV campfire allowed you to eat marshmallows while sitting, but they get up to do it. DX I want the Sims 1 version where they ate sitting down and could also sing and tell ghost stories!

The kotatsu here works as a floor dining table. https://mishas-sims.tumblr.com/post/641712691028836352 You could make an invisible replacement and put something else in front of them.

Atavera's beach towel might be useful with the invisible recolor.

Beach towel is in this post, #3: https://modthesims.info/download.ph...815#post1530815

The invisible recolor is here: https://modthesims.info/d/170224/in...or-request.html

There are a number of 'floor cushion' dining chairs, designed for Japanese settings mostly. All the ones I've seen use lowered chair anims, which looks fine when placed on the ground, but the sims' legs will poke through if the chair is set above an open deck or upper floor.

http://www.simfileshare.net/download/2233134/ This is an old one from SimCredible. I made islander recolours for it, which are published on MTS (https://modthesims.info/d/356302/ca...recolours.html).

Katsurin has published a number of sets which include floor-level dining sets and recolours. There are two such uploads at this link:
https://www.tumblr.com/katsurinssim...s%202%20objects,
or they have a Pillowfort account too: https://www.pillowfort.social/Katsurin
Katsurin is generally an excellent place to look for any Japanese-inspired TS2 content you may be looking for.

You could use a floor mattress (Atavera's, or maybe the SunMoon wicker ones from the BasketWeaver set?), which can be placed on a platform built of foundation, which might give you the right look?

My new downloads are on my Pillowfort

Wow - that's a lot of options, thank you all so much! For those of you unused to my unusual combo of EPs, I don't have BV, so lots of "outdoorsy" mods won't work for me, which is a pity considering the types of non-modern games I like to play. However, I'll definitely go through all these cool things and check them out... as usual, I'll report back as to what ends up working. Although I can't quite picture the "sittable" beds being a good fit for this particular scenario, it's a great thing in general... people sit on beds all the time.

Honestly, I've never noticed the "Hang Out" action in anyplace other than teen pie menus... maybe because I never looked for it? I've definitely never seen adults or kids doing it autonomously. Is that a base game thing? I learn something new every day.

"Hang out" was introduced in Uni, and works for kids and up. Up to 6 sims can hang out together. There's a bit more info here if you're interested: https://sims.fandom.com/wiki/Hanging_out

Even if you're on a Mac, you should still be able to get BV. It's the ones after BV that weren't made for Mac.

I foolishly thought that the sittable bed solved your sleeping problem, but you have the opposite problem. I did find a hack that increases energy gain from napping. It's for AL, but that's just so sofas from AL are included, as far as I can see, so it might still work. http://www.insimenator.org/index.php/topic,92129.0.html

They sit on cushions on the floor when using the bubble blower and the tea set from BV.

Yeah, that's weird... I'll often instruct teens to "hang out", to keep them occupied and out from underfoot, like if they're so bored that they've resorted to trying to admire their parents every two minutes. But I've never seen kids or adults do it autonomously, or noticed it in their Talk submenus.
