In real life, if an adult interacts with a baby all day, they feel starved for adult conversation and want someone to talk to. But they don't feel as if they've seen no one else all day. Babies will smile at you, look happy to see you, grab your fingers and your hair, and so on. They don't have any conversation, but they ARE real people, and interacting with a baby isn't the same thing as being alone.

So I've hacked the baby file to make interacting with a baby fill the Social motive somewhat IF your sim's Social need is three-quarters full or less. If it's three-quarters full or more, well, it's probably adult conversation you need. :-) Feeding gives only a small amount, Sing gives a little bit more, and Play with gives the most. So now there's finally a reason to play with the baby. :-) (I say that because what makes the baby stop crying is Feed - Feed - Sing.)

Notice that interacting with the baby will not FILL your sim's social need -- you still need adult conversation, after all -- it will fill it to a maximum of three-quarters full.

Installation: This does NOT go in your Downloads folder; unzip the folder and put Baby.iff in your The Sims\GameData\Objects folder, and it will override the Baby.iff file that's inside the Objects.far file. For most players, this is in C:\Program Files (x86)\Maxis\The Sims\GameData\Objects. Because this is overriding a file that's inside Objects.far, it has to go into the same folder as the far file for that to happen.

I always thought it was so weird that Play does literally nothing... an oversight, I guess? This is much better.

Hee! I always figured the babies in The Sims 1 were a hidden message to teenaged girls -- "Do not get pregnant, because you will NOT like having a baby." :-)
