Default Population Limit? Neighbourhood Crashes During Loading
I've played the Sims 2 Super Collection for many years now, and I keep encountering the same problem time and time again: as soon as my Sims reach more or less their 5th or 6th generation, and a new baby is born or a new character introduced, the neighbourhood never loads again, even though the game itself seems to be functioning perfectly correctly.

I've just experienced this for the umpteenth time... I thought that the key was not to introduce any new HOUSEHOLDS after a certain point, as that seems to be where the neighbourhood has become unplayable, so I limited my number of households to around 12 and kept it at the same number for many generations. I really hoped that this time, my town would stick.... but no! It's happened again!

I've deleted mods. I've reinstalled the game. I've kept my population low... but every time, around the 5th or 6th generation of Sims, I lose everything.

Does anyone else encounter this, and is there ANY way in which I can stop it from happening? Some kind of download or patch? My game is up to date, as is my computer (MacBook Air).
Better yet, is there any way in which I could potentially play my crashed neighbourhoods again? They're still there, they just won't play. Other neighbourhoods will play perfectly well, but what's the point if I'm just going to lose it all again?

Any help or suggestions would be GREATLY appreciated!

Macs have an "open file limit" of about 12k files, which could be causing the issue, since it happens roughly the same place every time. I think it's possible to increase the limit in some ways - I'm sure the mac users here know better what to do.
