Another weird incident, this time in Sunlit Tides. One of my sim's oldest friends is Gretchen Laird, they met her first week there, I assume she's an elder since she's retired; they often chat by phone but otherwise it's just chance meetings at public places. About three sim-weeks ago she called and asked for a date, they met in the rain at a public pool and chatted a while, til my sim was soaked and hungry and went home. I kept watching Gretchen to see where she went, but she just stood there for a half hour (real time) then went swimming; four sim-hours later she is still swimming, I got bored and went to see what my sim was up to (I'm also watching TV in RL). A couple of sim-weeks later my sim gets engaged (after an "on again, off again" relationship with one of her suitors), and a few days later Gretchen asks her out again; it's an old friend, nothing romantic, so why not. She gets to the meeting place around 10PM, after an arduous climb up the mountain to the Lair, Gretchen is standing on the path about halfway around the mountain from the entrance, with a book on the ground beside her (that's odd). They chat, Gretchen flirts, my sim doesn't respond, til 2AM, when cold and hunger drive my sim home. I continue watching Gretchen, why pick this spot? is she a criminal? She stood there motionless for a half hour, then walked over and picked up the book, read for maybe five seconds, put the book down, and walked a few feet away. She indicated she was hungry, swayed on her feet as if utterly exhausted, then rubbed her hands together and blew on them (it's so cold you could see her breath), eventually going back to pick up her book and read a few seconds again. She continues all these actions, also occasionally taking a book from inventory and reading it a few seconds then putting it back in inventory, until 9AM! She then walked around to the entrance of the Lair, where Alana had just emerged, and talked to her for an hour; Alana left, Gretchen walked back around to where she had been, and continued all those previous actions til around 2PM (thus she had been there at least 16 hours!) when she wandered down the mountain to the road and hailed a cab. I didn't get to see where she went because at 3PM my sim catches the car pool and the game instantly shifted focus to that.

I had saved while watching Gretchen at 3AM, but when I load that save it opens briefly where she had been but she isn't there and the focus shifts immediately to my sim.

My sim felt badly about the plight of her old friend; was she always cold and hungry? where did she live? I scrolled all around the map and found no evidence of "Gretchen Laird" in any household. So my sim invited her over and offered to let her move in, she can stay in the spare bedroom and get her life in order. And I can now snoop on her, lol. She's not an elder, she's perhaps 20% into her adult years; her wish is to be a surgeon, and wants to learn logic; so I bought her books and sent her to the hospital to get started on her career (and by massive coincidence, her boss is my fiancee), also bought her a car so she would stop using mine. And apparently she flirts all the time because she's a Hopeless Romantic. But I've still no idea who she is or where she came from. Her biography says she is a member of the Arnott household, which shows "no lot, no house" and no other members. So I go online and read several sites' data about Sunlit Tides, including full lists of playable characters, NPCs, homeless, and service people; nowhere is there any mention of Gretchen Laird or an Arnott household. An immigrant? She was present when I first started playing this world with my current character, immigration wasn't open yet. A true conundrum, Sims3 meets Twilight Zone, but an interesting subplot to this sim's life in Sunlit Tides.

The Arnott household is a homeless/role sim household. None of them are related to anybody. As you saw, they can be converted to playable sims by moving them into an active (or inactive playable) household, but usually they're very underdeveloped and you might consider tweakin them with like Master Controller or cheats. Gretchen actually sounds rather more developed than some of the homeless sims I've encountered.

Thank you. Did you deduce this from experience or find a list somewhere? One of my first characters in the game, about a million years ago, chatted with the firefighter who came to her house (I think every one of my characters has had a house fire their first week in the world), they eventually married and the firefighter became a renowned orchestra conductor; I always mention this whenever someone complains of no available romantic partners mid way through a world. That's probably how I met Gretchen, I thought she was old because she was retired and had white hair in a huge bouffant hairdo ....which it turns out is a weird white cap she wears. And explains why she didn't go home after our date - she had no home. But my sim will enjoy supporting her for a while, and playing matchmaker.

I can't remember where I first found out Arnott was a homeless name, as I've known it for a while. I think maybe somebody told me when I asked about it?

I think it's Arnett, and if you ever ask one to join your household, the name shows in that window.

I just discovered that it is able to stick in the same house with your ex. My sims divorced at the very begining at the game and I used no cheats so they had not much money. After divorce I noticed that there was no money for the other house! I had to use cheats for a house. I did not want that they continue as roommates. because they are enemies now. It is quite funny situation.

Today I just downloaded Sunset Died by SimCookie and give it a shot for a while. To be honest I'm not that much of a fan of Sunset Valley since it came out, due to its style and inhabitants. I'm a whole Riverview player and it's probably the only pre-made town in the whole Sims franchise that I really dedicate to play, build, and write a story for it. (maybe Twinbrook too, I just gave in a shot lately and it is also an interesting town). I watched Sunset Died overview video from CJplays' and I already feel like this one is freakin' interesting and I instantly download it.

So the original story from SimCookie is our beloved Sunset (not me lol) was hit by some meteors (it's a meteor shower in the teasers but I think it should be much more than that, probably a big meteor). Half of its inhabitants didn't made it and some areas has been destroyed:

Now how the town changed and how are the only survivors:

I don't know if homeless townies like Dave Ramsey or Milton Tong will made it though. Will see if I play this town for a bit.

I was thinking due to an apocalypse, the meteors impact should left an impact winter scenario, which will suffers them much more to the point that they might not survive in a harsh winter due to no roof above their head. Jamie Jolina might not be the case though. Food, however, is quite easy to find. Money might be much harder due to no job offers anymore, they'll live on their own. Will they succesfully built a community and survive together or will they kill each other for resources.

Can't wait too play this though. I think it would be fun to write a story while I also continue my Riverview story.

Started doing random stuff with a playthrough. Had a sim adopt two kids, but she wasn't much of a mother. After her death, her sister moved into the house and took over raising them from babyhood to adulthood. Gave the sister traits like Shy, Hates the Outdoors, and Coward, and played her as an agoraphobic. And of course, she was nervous about her niece and nephew going anywhere, too, so they were homeschooled.
They both had imaginary friend dolls, and I made them real. Since they had the ability to teleport and such, I used that as an excuse to give them more freedom and have them attend regular school. After everyone graduated, I had one kid marry his imaginary friend and have a baby. Moved the other imaginary friend out, and am playing with her in a house I built. Currently trying to complete the 'woohoo in five different places with 5 different sims' lifetime wish. I just bought a hot tub, which should complete the last task once I drag another sim into it.
...On a related note, my sim doesn't have the greatest reputation. She has four or five active relationships right now.

Mitzi went to Sunlit Tides to test a home I had built there, a modern three story home on a huge lot at the beach with a panoramic view of the ocean. Of course she had to work her way up to it, a part time job at the grocery store affords little more than a pot and a cot. Her first day in town she went to the festival, where she met Maria, who seemed a middle aged ex-hippie living alone in a small, cheaply furnished, home by the beach on the far side of the island. Maria became her first friend, her first best friend, her first old friend. As Mitzi's career (inventor) and finances improved she eventually bought that modern home and began furnishing it (she spent so much to purchase the place that she used her old cheap furniture, all in the dining room, for weeks), but she didn't forget her old friend, they spoke almost daily. Time moves on, Mitzi's life improved, the house is about 75% furnished now, though nothing done outside yet; she has an alleged romantic interest (never calls or writes but when they get together they have a great time). Recently the message came that Maria was getting old, so Mitizi got up the next day and drove across the island to see her friend in person.

It took Maria a couple of minutes to answer the door; her sink had broken and she was frantically trying to mop up the mess. Having mastered handiness Mitzi repaired the sink quickly then helped with cleanup. They had a long talk, joked, shared gossip, watched TV, took turns in "the smallest room in the house", then Maria started cooking dinner while Mitzi sat at the table, reading. About 8PM the ominous music played and Mitzi watched Maria become a ghost, and the grim reaper appeared. Unlike many sims, Maria was stoic, she slowly turned, reached out and took the reaper's hand, and they disappeared. Mitzi was inconsolable, weeping and moaning; I wanted her to clean up the kitchen before leaving, but she screamed once, ran out of the house and drove home. The next day Mitzi went to the cemetery and took Maria's marker; she wanted to bury her at her old house, looking out over the ocean, where she'd spent her life, but that was not possible ...Mitzi lived in a $180k house but had less than $15k cash, so couldn't buy Maria's old house. So she took the marker home with her, went to the northwest corner by the beach, and placed it under some palm trees with a beautiful view of the ocean. RIP old friend. Mitzi grieved for days.

But that wasn't the end. A couple of weeks later Mitzi was working late at the inventor bench when Maria floated down the hall waving at her! Maria now visits once or twice a week, she and Mitzi talk, laugh, hug, even play chess. Only once was she troublesome, turning on the stereo at 3AM. If Mitzi is asleep, Maria just wanders around, occasionally reads a book (and always leaves it on the floor). If anyone ever visits or moves in, they will have to accept that Maria is always welcome and has the run of the place. This past winter Maria built an igloo and two snowmen near her marker. (It's odd that ghosts float around but visibly walk up and down stairs.)

I saw a meteor impact. Never happened in my game. It was on my sims workplace. Luckily my sim has just finished her workday so she went to home and I did not let her to go react to meteor. So nothing happened to my sim family. They get lot of money from the meteor. Only problem is that there is now many burnt sims in the town. Some of them came my sims wedding party on next day and were still burned.

Somehow I have "waiting" this a long time. For example I never save during schoolday because I do not (usually) want children and teens die in meteor impact. Now there was not even children and teens in the household.

One of my Sims was nearly killed by a meteor just yesterday! He's a vampire (of course), and had just bat-a-ported home, when a notice popped up about him and a meteor strike, as if he had been killed. So, I sent another Sim to collect the meteor and fragments. Everyone was charred, but no one dead.

"I saw a meteor impact. Never happened in my game."

I've only seen the remains of one. A few weeks ago in Sunlit Tides my sim, Yra, was tending her garden, so I took the opportunity to go for a snack; while in the kitchen I hear a loud commotion from the area of my computer. I returned to see a smoldering crater where half the house, the patio, driveway, car, and garden had been, flaming debris scattered around ...and my sim was dead. A direct hit.

A great irony.
Yra had a romantic interest that was going well. One day her friend invited her to a party; she went, mingled with guests for a while then sought her friend ...and found her in the hallway doing everything short of woohoo with someone named "Carly". There followed, to say the least, a bit of unpleasantness, with everyone, including some guests, becoming quite angry. When Yra left she was told "I'm glad you're leaving. Thanks for making my party so lame." and she's thinking "I wasn't the one swapping spit with some stranger in the hallway".
Over the next week Yra received a couple of gifts, phone calls, and asked on a date, but responded to none, unable to decide - forgive or forget? She met someone new at a festival, and there was definitely an incipient romance there. She called her old lover and invited them over, just to see where things stood, at first accepted ("I'll be over") then "On second thought I've got something else to do. Sorry." OK, decision made. Yra pursued her new interest. A week or so later (eons in the sim world) out of the blue her old lover asks her on a date, out of curiosity she accepts. They met out in the middle of nowhere near a frozen lake with several people skating; they chatted, flirted and hugged a bit, nothing more; by 3AM they were freezing and went home. Yra is notified she now has a "naughty" reputation. What?! My lover makes out in public with someone and I'm naughty? But now a dilemma - which to pursue and with which to try to remain friends.
The meteor made the decision.

(I actually considered following each plotline separately to see how Yra's life played out with each, but hadn't retained a suitable save from which to fork.)

Reading all your posts about meteors is making me anxious because it hasn't happened in my game in ages! @Ruusupapu, you got incredibly lucky that your sim left work just before the impact, though guests showing up charred to a wedding the next day is peak Sims energy. @jgf, your story about losing half the house and the sim is my absolute nightmare. This is exactly why I panic every time I hear that specific ominous background rumble or when the camera suddenly forces focus on a sim standing outside.

Fortunately meteors are very rare, and you get notice of them. Yra died because I was not at the computer. There will be a message on screen informing you of a meteor approaching; a large shadow will appear on the ground where it will hit, if you are in or near that shadow - RUN! There's enough time to get a safe distance away. When the fires die out, go back and pick up all the meteor fragments, there can easily be $50k or more there.
