Default Some discoveries
Just for me, obviously. I haven't played the game for years. I played it for maybe half an hour after it became free. Now I wanted to check something out and I reinstalled it (base game only). Some surprises:

- I am bombarded with "quests" for actions that I would do anyway.
- I keep getting rewards for those "quests" that are obviously meant to make the game even easier than it is.
- There are cars driving around. Well, at least my Sim can sadly watch them.
- Sims are wearing underwear in the shower/bath (no mosaic mod). Which genius thought of that? But if it was done for comic purpose they certainly succeeded.
- My Sim is a writer and the first and easiest thing she can produce is a children book. If EA people really believe this they are completely wrong. A good book for kids is very hard to write: that's why there are so few.
- And last but not least, I can determine the way my Sim will die at the very beginning. I really don't even understand what that is supposed to do. I left it unchecked.

Nothing new to you, but this is what I discovered so far. Doubtlessly another surprise is waiting for me at the next corner, with a big stick.

I am sure you are right. It's not all doom and gloom, though.

- My writer has fun maxed out all the time when she is writing, even when she is hungry and tired. She can only run out of inspiration; that's realistic, as are some of the solutions (not those stupid potions, of course). This is what I wanted to check out and this is where TS2 and TS3 went wrong (not sure about TS). Writing can certainly be tiring (it's always tiring when you have to use your brain), but it's never dull. If it becomes dull you are doing it completely wrong.

So: kudos to TS4 on this point.

I can only assume you're playing a scenario or event. I have never encountered anything asking me to choose how my Sim is going to die. I think the current update introduced an event scenario, maybe that's what you're playing?

None that I know of other than the one in my head. I still have to look into scenarios (also new to me), but I won't do it with the current Sim.
"Predict death" (?) appears on Create-a-Sim screen, up left from your Sim's main trait.

Wait until you find out that all of the pets are split across several packs and there are still pets missing.

Cats & Dogs
Cottage Living
Horse Ranch
Life & Death
Backyard Stuff
My First Pet Stuff

Oops. Spoiled that. Sorry.

This is also a Sims 3 feature - creating a ghost supernatural in CAS. Since all other occults can be ghosts as well as normal Sims, it’s a universal feature for all Sims.

So that is what it does. I never used it in TS3 either - not compatible with the way I play.

I knew about pets from videos. EA plays it dirty and cheap, but by now at least almost everybody knows it. - I became curious and checked: all the DLCs cost 855.94€ on Steam ATM, and that's on sale with some packs at -60%.

Oof! And to think there are many more years of DLC to come.

The ability to create a ghost in CAS came with the October update, so it's new to TS4 for everyone right now - https://www.ea.com/games/the-sims/t...date-10-22-2024

I had those quests appear after I had been playing the game for a bit. They would have been useful when I first started the game, but when they came up, I already knew what to do! Guess that just made them easier to complete.

This is a recent bug that apparently crept in with the Life & Death update. Even MCCC, which used to restore the nude "outfit", is unable to clear it any more. So now we are back to Sims sitting in the bath with their underwear on.
If I was cynical ......
I might think it was done on purpose because of censorship issues....

Very hard to get any sense on this and the EA problem forum moderators keep passing it around, which would suggest it is intentional. However, you can still command a Sim to dress in the "nude outfit" from a dresser, but they still bathe in their undies. Very weird.

Does the MC copy/paste outfit no longer solve undies in shower?

Take sim into Cas, give them a complete nude outfit in swimwear. Before sending to shower, make them change outfit to nude swimwear, copy it via MC, change them back to everyday, send to shower, when they are there in their undies in shower, paste nude outfit. Problem solved forevermore.

If not, then it's a certain case of some CC clothing being tagged for both nude and default that keeps getting put back on when nude. Even if it's Maxis undies, the CC was tagged default which can cause - otherwise innocent - default Maxis stuff to be used like this. Sims 4 Studio batch fix to the rescue. Can remove CC tags for nude and default because CC should never have these tags and some happy-go-lucky CC creators need to frikken learn this, though God bless those CC creators for their - otherwise innocent - good work.

Ermmmm........ NO.

Did all the S4S stuff to clear defaults, which is great because I removed all my cc from random while I was at it and found some bad cc , but males still keep their undies on. Naked in CAS, undies in the shower and choose outfits!?

LSM reset bathing outfit works for the current play session so I might just have to do that each start up. It just breaks my immersion when Sims have a scented bath in their clothes.

Honestly, there are so many complaints about broken content out there you just have to ignore it and play as best you can. Dine Out, even with DO reloaded, has gone back to custard again. They keep patching and adding more content and it's starting to really feel the strain I feel.

Thanks for your help, appreciated.

p.s. Thanks for the S4S tips as I had townies walking around in CC Calvin Klein undies and the like!!

I am sure it was done on purpose: some "moral majority" parents complained and good old EA folks decided to listen to them and ignore everybody else laughing at them.
However,

they could not do even that properly. Some Sims in my "loose dress code" community swimming pool were naked (others were wearing swimsuits), and so was my Sim when using the bath/shower combo. I noticed these two by chance; I am sure there are more.

I don't think Maxis would do it on purpose, never mind moral majority complaints. After all, that's exactly what the censor mosaic is supposed to be for, to keep the prudes at bay. Not to mention on several objects and interactions with water features, there are the skinny dip options - again covered by censor mosaic so, pffft, no big deal. Maxis would have to first remove those skinny dip options from the game before purposely and forcefully slapping on underwear for showers and baths, that can't even be seen anyway when censor mosaic is active. An exercise in pointlessness that even Maxis wouldn't venture into, I'm sure.

And if, like me, you use a mod to remove the censor mosaic in the privacy of your own game, then that's nobody else's damn business and again, I don't see Maxis giving much of a hoot about that, never mind prudish busy-bodies complaining.

And lastly, I've pulled many a TS4 file apart while making mods, even one to remove said censor mosaic, and I haven't come across one intentionally written bit of prudish code regarding the forcing of underwear while bathing or showering. A glitch, to be sure.

You might think me calling concerned parents as prudish a bit harsh. But there's a line of sanity involved that has me baffled. Those same parent would happily buy their children Barbie and Ken dolls, where kids will eventually get to ripping the clothes off the dolls and seeing them "naked." And default sims look exactly the same as B&K when naked, which you don't even get to see anyway because of censor mosaic. Do these same parents want the doll manufacturers to ship Barbie and Ken with a censor mosaic for the times when they will be in a state of undress? You see, mind bending. Then again, those parents probably would if it was feasible to do such a thing to poor Barbie and Ken. Ah, the treats nano-technology and holograms have in store for the future. Barbie and Ken complete with censor mosaics that trigger when naked, with sensor alarms that scream out warnings and connect to the police online if those kids so much as touch any of Barbie's lumpy bits. Gotta teach those kids right, eh?

In comparison to TS2 woohoo cutscene where all of us had to hid it from our parents, TS4 is tame as hell and those parents need a medicine what sexual content for esrlier games in stores Not how games make you gay or running around stealing cars or shooting stuff

There is also the little thing of Andrew Wilson being on the ESRB board or the board that 'dictates' what a game rating is at least for US sales. This is how we ended up with toddlers being able to gamble in FIFA, but TS4 has a teen rating.

Andrew Wilson will do a lot of things. He has a whole team of spin doctors that call loot boxes 'surprise mechanics'. Ken and Barbie don't make the radar unless it is how to get deeper into player's wallets.

Like the The Sims movie currently in production, coming straight off the back of the recent Barbie movie with same producers - Margot Barbie herself, no less. That kind of "radar" thing, you mean?

I'd certainly make a mod to remove censor blurs for that Margot Barbie. (Goes on to laugh like Sid James in a Carry On movie.)

I don't know what the prize could be, a round of applause at best most probably, but with Margot Robbie producing upcoming The Sims movie, is she likely to also star in it? And if so, would it be a famous Sims character? Could you see her playing Bella Goth? Teaming up with Gosling again to play Mortimer Goth?

Anyone care to make a prediction? The most accurate guess gets the prize! Or, would I be correct in assuming, nobody really gives a flying fig as the Barbie movie was stupid enough, but a Sims movie will just be god-rotten awful?

Nor is it related to the kind of "discoveries" this thread is supposed to be about. So no. Let's leave it at that. Though if anyone discovers a Margo Barbie Goth sim milling about our Sims 4 universes any time soon, maybe to coincide with The Sims Movie release, just let me know and I'll get a special no censor mosaic rigged up just for that sim. Though what good it will do will not be much, seeing as that particular sim will most definitely be forced, on purpose, to wear undies when naked.

Today I "discovered" that the new "Qwest" has even more pop ups than the Grim Reaper one!!!

But I also discovered there were a couple of xpress freebies, a hot chocolate tray and blankie stand, that I am very happy about. Nice. (I do fancy the look-alike Nintendo game box though.)

It would be a crime if the Sims movie doesn't include the Goth family. They have been there through all installations of the series. They, together with the Newbies, are integrate to the townie make up of the Sims.

Same thing they always do in these types of flicks, either someone from their universe crosses over into our reality, or someone from our reality somehow crosses into their dimension. There's no conceivable engaging plot otherwise. Watching sims be sims for ninety-odd minutes? Errr, no. Watching someone just play sims for ninety-odd minutes? Again, no.

Maybe we've got too much Barbie influence in our heads. For all we know the film could be about the history of the game itself, with someone playing Will Wright and what not? Who knows at this stage? I doubt this type of historic, biopic pic the most, but until the theme is confirmed it's still a possibility.

It is a possibility, and the film could be interesting, maybe even really good - but have another look at recent Hollywood biopics. If it were made in the forties ... but we missed that window of opportunity, as the saying goes.

Another possibility: the main protagonist is The (invisible - voice only, mostly just manic cackle) Sims Player, pushing poor Sims in every direction possible and impossible. In the worst case, a good absurdist comedy, but could be developed much further. Once more, highly unlikely.

Maybe a person that receives powers to grab objects, construct walls and refurning surroundings/humans with a swipe of their hat? Basically, the plot is that they’re a walking TesingCheats apifiny out of some sort of freak accident (that’s what my 13-year-old self pretented to have lol).
