Default Extracting textures from walls and floors to convert into png files
Hi Im currently looking for a way to rip textures from walls and floors in Sims 1 but all the tools I could find only export them as wll and flr files!

What Im trying to accomplish here is to find the right tool or at least someone should start making one for extracting the image off of wll and flr files which are only just parts of the game that make up the walls and floors that use textures from their original bmp files somehow converted into a wall or floor file to be used for that purpose in the game.

My idea is to extract the original bmp first and convert them as png by simply saving them as with Windows paint or Windows image viewer.

However, what we really need a tool that can pull the bmp image out of the wll and flr files if thats possible to do!

I would be very glad if you guys can help!

Most of the original walls and floors are SPRITES. You can view them with Sim Explorer and take a screenshot of them to use for making your own walls and floors, but the only .bmp files of them are tiny ones for the catalog, not the full-sized ones you'd want for making new walls.

You can get Sim Explorer at the Internet Archive, here: https://archive.org/details/SimExplorer2.1.1

I've made some mods for The Sims 1 -- yes, The Sims ONE :-) -- which you can find at http://corylea.com/Sims1ModsByCorylea.html

screenshots don't work for me sorry! I only accept the best quality rip I can get directly from the original files. screenshots only ruin the quality Im afraid.

My point stands, however -- there are no .bmp files to extract, except for the tiny ones used in the catalog. If you want to use the files directly, you'll need something that converts sprites to .png.

I don't think so because how would a wll or flr file work without the image needed when we convert it into the wll or flr file right? otherwise it wouldn't be there if not for applying the bmp within the wll or flr first unless Im mistaken and the format is already like that designed for how its programmed into the game but Im sure there could be a possibility to get the image out of that format again in some way.

I wonder how the creators who remade the Sims 1 walls for Sims 2 did it? Perhaps they did it as Corylea mentioned, by screenshotting the Sim Explorer. Otherwise they would have had to remake them? Anyway, maybe take a look at those files to see if they give you textures that are good enough?

I still can't believe why nobody ever figures out how to rip textures of the walls and floors from this game?

Thankfully I was able to pull out the skins, a few textures of the 3d objects (basket ball, phone, and toy car), and graphics of the HUD such as buttons, icons, and cursors. All this was possible because the Edith tool already had those things out in the open in their original bmp format! The bmp of the roofs can be easily saved from both the retail and Edith. So I cannot understand why it can be done the same with wall and floor textures?

taking screenshots are for cheapskates lmao.

btw I don't care about Sims 2 or later installments so content from sequels are not my top priority plus I still need a proper tool or solution to rip textures from walls and floors once I get a prototype of Sims 1 somewhere. Im currently going through the retail stuff for now until I get a prerelease version of the game myself.

Yes I understand that, but I thought maybe you could use the textures from those files to use in your project.

Oh, so your plan is to extract textures from a prototype? Has anyone found a prototype? Were you the person badgering Luxpix for this?

This is why I lose faith and trust with a community who no longer cares about preservation. Let me tell you something cheapskate, when Hidden Palace and other preservation groups are gone what would happen? think about it because saving important pieces of game history is a REALLY BIG DEAL than you think! otherwise we wouldn't have Hidden Palace who brought you Sonic betas and alphas! and if it were not for Forest we would have never got to see Dinosaur Planet 64 again would we? If you guys really love Sims this much why don't you help support preservation and get us a late or early build of Sims 1? the overrated sequels already got beta versions released out there so I don't see whats the hold up about it.

Don Hopkins is the one who is badgering people look at his hateful tweets!

Plus calling anyone a asshole including ME is not tolerable!

EA should fired this very toxic man who is still working for them btw. He doesn't deserve to support or get in touch with anyone from the community including myself. Someone should expose this jerk's ass for being a jerk around others lmao.

@SimFanReturns2023 Ah, I see someone is playing the "how much can I say until they ban me" game. Look, if you asked politely, you would already have everything you want. Don't blame ModTheSims ─this is a pretty helpful and resourceful community for all things sims.

They were really rude and abusive to Lucpix.

Oh, I know... I was there to see it, unfortunately. We are becoming somewhat frenemies, at least on my part.

Well even Don Hopkins thinks they are an asshole, so we are not alone. Do you think 'cheapskate' was meant to be an insult? I'm economical on a fiscal and digital level, why bother with high-res textures when your eyes only work in VGA? :P

I sincerely don't know XD the beta version of The Sims 1 they're so obsessed over has some very... questionable and cheap-loking (for the release date of the 2000s, anyway), graphics, which were understandably dummied out. Even if you extract the "best quality" rips of those walls they were asking for, they look a bit stretched by virtue of being very limited and low-res textures ─so they are "cheapskate" textures?

Alas, the work they made on SimThings is really admirable: I have lots of those walls in my game (TS2 doesn't really have really good wooden walls or floors in my opinion), and they look fantastic on TS2.
